If you want a game that can work on budget laptops. I’d say, play some borderlands 2. It can run on almost anything and if you have like 8gb of ram which everyone should probably have in their laptop. It really helps performance on this laptop and playing borderlands 2 is a fun shooter where you can grind guns. And all the exploits aren’t patched since it’s an older game. Plus if you play though it with every character and just want to have new fun you can use mods or mod game saves. Good option if you want a fun game that can run on a budget system like this
I have this laptop and funny thing I’ve gotten games to run on it without even upgrading but instead of buying a gaming laptop ima just upgrade the SSD and the ram in this one, 16GB of ram and probably 500 SSD
Hey, I’m thinking about getting this laptop for my birthday next week and I was going to upgrade the ram to 8gb by adding a 4gb stick cause I’ll probably only be playing games like CSGO, Minecraft, light gaming, and also adding a HDD, is this a good idea?
You can use crucial scanner. You can also check task manager > performance tab > memory. There are many different ways. You can also ask where you bought it from. Seller would know most likely
Hey man you are awesome, can you please answer my question, what is the name of the ram like what brand it is Crucial Ram or Samsung or what it is? and can I use two different brand rams like Crucial ram 8gb on slot 1 and Ripjaws Ram on slot 2 if I do is it okay or it will be problem later. @@whattmeter Got it switched today. Pretty easy, thanks to your video but while I had the back cover off I noticed a disconnected wire. It was a black wire that connected to the Qualcomm Atheros wireless network adapter. I assume it popped off because it had a weird bend in it so I rerouted it and popped it back on. Lol. I'd think something wouldn't be working correctly when it was disconnected but nope. I believe they are antenna wires.
I wanted to add another 4gb stick similar to one already in this laptop but it says Samsung 4GB DDR4 PC4-21300, 2666MHZ, 260 PIN SODIMM, 1.2V, CL 19...would this work
check crucial website for compatible ram. You can also use cpu z to see the current ram installed or the bios. if you mix ram with different speeds it will run at the slower speed.
I just recently purchased this computer and want to play C.O.D and Microsoft Flight simulator...is this what I need to do to be able to play those games?
As far as the default ram speed goes, most manufacturers run most components slower by default in order to ensure no instability is found out of the box. You should be able to essentially "overclock" your ram to the 2666 standard of the default dimm. I will try this on my aspire 5 slim after i finish this comment. Will reply with results.
Just booted into UEfI BIOS and it does not allow modification of the speed of any component in the system. Unfortunately, this means that you will have to stay at 2.4 ghz as far as dimm speed goes. Good choice going with the 2400 mhz RAM kit.
I picked up a Samsung 500gb 2.5 crucial 16gb ram kit 2x8 ddr4 but my question is since I picked up a refurbished one I didn’t get the 4 small screws that screw in the new SSD. Any idea where I can get those?
16gb is highly recommended since the cpu bottlenecks and you never tap all the extra ram. I never had any issues and I got the ram on sale and it’s not the fastest ram either 2400 mhz. No regrets
I completed the install of both the memory and the SSD as I used the tutorials from both your videos which were super helpful. I ordered and installed the exact same memory sticks on this exact same laptop from the video. However, after a month with no issues, I suddenly started getting two errors that would cause my system to restart randomly. The first is irql_not_less_or_equal and the second is kernel security check failure. Any idea whats causing these as I researched them and they’re both memory related errors?
@@whattmeter yes, I ordered 2 x 32GB RAM cards and misunderstood that the max RAM my laptop can handle is 32GB not 64GB. Downgraded to 2 x 16GB RAM sticks and have had no issues since.
Okay so my father inlaw bought this laptop for my mother in law. Long story short she left it on charge for almost three weeks. And messed it up. So he gave it to me and said that a new ram stick would fix the problem. Does that sound right?
Left it on charge? Meaning the laptop was charging the whole three weeks? The laptop shouldn’t have an issue if it was plugged in. Unless I am misunderstanding the story. Is the battery inflated or bulging?
I usually for the best deals, and I would check the read and write speeds. I usually go for western digital or samsung, or crucial. But the best deal at the time is what I usually go for as prices fluctuate a lot.
Good video man just a question. In the general info it says max memory is up to 16GB. Is It safe to do this? Or at least the laptop will use the full ram?
Most of the time in task manager you will see that there will be some reserved ram. Also often increasing ram increases shared gpu memory. You can overclock the ram to use it’s full potential but might cause errors if you aren’t sure what you are doing
Depends what game you are trying to run? Big games like call of duty warzone it will help as that is super intensive. Other games like fortnite, minecraft, gta V, 12 gb is more than enough based on my gaming tests.
Good question. 20gb total will work as long as you get a 16gb stick that is compatible with your current 4gb. Also keep in mind it most likely wont run as dual channel. Most don’t recommend it
the two sticks of 16gb (dual channel) will fill up the two slots, so no, you cannot have 8+8+2GB. also the sticks may not be compatible if you get a single 16GB and leave the 4GB one where it is.
are you referring if the charger can handle 110v - 220 volts? it does say on the charger 110-220v so it is auto volt or dual volt. They also mention this in the amazon question and answer (link below) If you are referring to the wattage, It says on the amazon description that the "Maximum Power Supply Wattage 65 W" www.amazon.com/Acer-Display-Graphics-Keyboard-A515-43-R19L/dp/B07RF1XD36
Are you using google chrome? It is a resource intensive web browser if you have a lot of tabs open. You can always open task manager to see what background applications are running. You can also check your startup programs and see what is running when you turn on your pc and what is high impact
I suggest you go straight with 12/16GB. less than that and the gpu is gonna eat a big chunk of it. that is why everyone in the comments (if you saw them) talks about how 16gb was the sweet spot and "ordered a set of two 16gb ram and I am amazed". 8GB just will not be enough for this laptop. also, as a second note: nobody knows wtf is in the laptop, almost everyone here gets new sticks for both of the slots.
Hi for some reason on my Acer Aspire 5 (A515-44-R2SA) mine only has one empty RAM slot when I open it up. I am confused I guess the occupied 8GB stick is on the other side of the motherboard? I am trying to upgrade from 8GB to 32 GB but I only saw the one open RAM slot, not the one that comes occupied with the 8GB stick out of the factory. If you know where the other RAM slot is it would be appreciated.
Oh really. By any chance, did you check if the motherboard has 4GB ram build into it? I would check task manager to see how many Dimm/ram slots are available and the current ram.

Depends on the cpu and ssd of the model you get. Based on my gaming tests 16gb will run apex legends good. They recommend at least 6gb ram If I remember correctly. Type: DDR4 ; Memory Frequency: 2133 MHz ; Interface Type: 260 Pin ; The value of CL: 15 ; Combination Form: Single ; Total capacity: 4GB is that compatible in Acer A514-52k ?
Are you planning on mixing this with another stick of ram? 2133mhz is one of the first speeds of ddr4. On paper it should work but if you are going to mix it with another stick of ram you want it to be the same speed and brand. I also pulled the specs of the laptop www.acer.com/ac/en/ID/content/model/NX.HKUSN.001 as long as its ddr4 laptop ram it should work, but I could be wrong.
Try checking crucial also to see if that speed if compatible. It should be though but I wouldn’t recommend mixing it with a different stick of ram. But i could be wrong

Check your motherboard model. You could pull up your motherboard model and look up its supported ram speeds. You can also run crucial scanner to see different compatible ram speeds
Do you have the same laptop? Check your task manager > performance > memory and check the current ram and it’s speed. Then check to see what ram slots are used. Remember that if you mix ram speeds it will always run the slowest
Yup that workes but make sure to match the speeds in terms of mhz. Also if possible try to get the same brand. Sometimes there are ram compatibility issues if ram sticks aren’t the same. You wont get dual channel. I try to avoid odd ram sizes but if 32gb ram works, 20gb ram should work

12gb is possible yes. If brand/speed of ram/ cl is different then it will run at the slower speed and won’t be dual channel. That being said 12gb (4gb+8gb ram works perfectly fine. Not the full potential of the ram but a boost nonetheless)

Often if you install 16gb ram you will see that available ram is lower than 16gb if that makes sense

I can only get about 15-25 FPS.. do you or anyone else know what I can upgrade or do to increase my FPS? Because at this point .. playing my game everything seems to be sticking or lagging. Any help or tip would be appreciated thanks!
Interesting. By any chance do you know the read and write speeds of your ssd? Also doesn’t sea of thieves take up like 50 gb of storage? Is you ssd kinda full? Last question, are you running the game at 1080p? I don’t play this game but looking at the system requirements they recommend at least 8gb ram if playing at 1080p. And that’s just for 30fps www.nvidia.com/en-gb/geforce/news/gfecnt/sea-of-thieves-pc-system-requirements/
Try checking your task manager > performance tab > check your gpu and memory. Gpu to see what your dedicated memory is. Also check your shared gpu memory
@@whattmeter Hi thanks for your quick response. Looking at the specs of the game it does require 50gb of storage. If you mean by SSD as in ( C: ) than yes it is pretty full. It says i have 7.89 gb free of 118gb. When i play the game i play it at the lowest setting, i think it was around 540p so i can get higher FPS
My GPU 0 is at 1% (41 .C ) and Memoriy is 2.1/3.4 gb ( 62% ). As far as shared GPU memory, i dont see anywhere on that list that says it it says my speed is 1.34 GHz if that helps?
looking forward to your help and response. Thanks
Shared gpu memory shiuld be under task manager > performance tab > gpu. On the bottom left area it should show shared gpu memory
Yeah I think it’s a number of factors as to why fps is low
the tools you have where can i get them and what are they called?
Plastic prying tools should be easy to find online at amazon. Screwdrivers as well
I would make sure the screwdriver kit has a ph2 screwdriver or a screwdriver of a similar size
