    Our Worst Nightmare- Harvest isn't far off, we're only a couple weeks away from Harvest preparations. In the meantime I'm working on making some trails for the kids in the woods for their ATV'S. Isla and I hauled some corn to the ethanol plant. The corn is dry and we're drying up. The good news is we don't need to spray for aphids because the crops are almost non existent. Harvest should be quick and easy unless our worst nightmare happens and it starts raining.

    Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture.
    With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

    I remember back in the day when all the farmers around would let us ride our ATV's on the outside of the crops. Or make trails in their woods. Then some city folk moved in and drove trough the crops and wreaked their 4 wheeler all in the same day. And ruined it for everyone. (I'm assuming because the parents tried suing the farmer.) I'm sure it had nothing to do with the lack of parenting.

    • @iare19
      @iare19 3 года назад +9

      We ride ATVs as well and my former class mate and life long friend is largest land owner and farmer around here. So we were riding with our group and reached random maize field. Respectful bunch we are so we went around like always. Then I see the very same farmer I was talking about just going diagonally straight through the field 😆😆 he said he wanted to check if it was ready 😂

    • @chesterraybon3442
      @chesterraybon3442 3 года назад +8

      Exactly correct!!, for years we rode miles and miles around farm fields with no problem. Most of our parents owned the farms but we knew better anyway.
      Then here come a few city kids moving out this way and we had to put up signs and gates in less than a month.

    • @hillbillynurse7212
      @hillbillynurse7212 3 года назад +1

      We posted all our property for a lot the same reason (except nobody tried suing us for wrecks). People would just ride theough standing hay, do donuts in the field, and all kinds of nonsense. We used to let people just ride, and did plenty of it ourselves, but no more unfortunately.

    As someone that worked in what I think is still North America's biggest water bottle plants I can tell you that water from a bottle is the biggest scam in consumer supplies. The water in the bottle is not tested as well as the water from a city water supply . Unless you have some problems with the tap water your home then you are wasting money . I knew the son of the owner of the plant I worked at and he refused to be a part of it as he knew it was a huge rip off . He ended up working for Honda in a car plant

      @@jthomp997 Irrigation is great except when people do it too much it depletes the aquifers faster than they can be replenished. They remove it faster than it gets restored to bottle soda and to grow fruits. Eventually this will backfire badly.

    Another 1.5 inches of rain in the KC MO area.
    I’m afraid it’s a bumper crop for us this fall. Timely rains all year.

    Greenbush...funny to hear my hometown on YT. Used to hear the races from my folk's place 3 miles away. Hallock was another hot place to race many years ago.

    Summers where you’re just constantly praying for rain and the 10 day shows none in sight are the worst. We’ve thankfully been blessed with timely rains in West Michigan this year (first summer like that in a very long time) but praying something turns around for you. I know when we’re struggling with drought, it’s painful just even having to see the corn. Almost better to go on vacation until it rains or harvest gets here.

    We get over an inch of rain just about everyday here in the low-country of SC.

    You need a heavier chain than the one you had pulling trees . When it damp you can still harvest the soybeans . If it gets to wet that's when it's nice to have 4 wheel drive . Where I harvest 4 wheel drive is handy especially if you have to harvest corn when you're leaving ruts tire deep .

    Zach, sorry to hear about the poor expectations on harvest. I enjoyed your other video too, especially cool to see Onyx doing well racing.

    We have 18 acres of hay ground and I am just finishing first crop. Mostly cuz I busted the bale r and because with no rain it never really grew. At least you can cut and bale the same day. It's dead dry standing.

    Our soybean got mites (I hope I got the right word) because we had so long awfully warm(95-99) days. We did spray it 2 times and felt like we did nothing. Corn got burn up to the 4. and 5. leaves, but we got a nice rain that helped a loot. And we could say that we are lucky, because there are farms where they didn't had any rain after planting. I don't know what corn will the harvest if they even have anything to harvest.

    Zack... I will give you 5 inches of rain. Here is the Houston, Texas area we have had over 8" of slow rain. Things are really green. I hope you get some. As I type I can hear lightning and thundering outside. The Generac generator came on several times as the power went out for a while. Thank goodness for Generac.

      We had over 8 inches overnight here in Mid Michigan. (Record for us) altho over a week later stuff is still flooded and soggy. Amazing how just a few miles can make a difference with the summer storms

      That's great. Rain too late on the crops is almost as bad as no rain.
      I hope things dry up when harvest time.
      Another thing is mildew and mold could set in. If it's not one thing it's another.

    Technically I think that is a juniper tree. Most Americans wrongly assume that American red cedar is cedar but it was miss named and is actually a juniper tree.

    I convinced my dad to replace both his knees at the same time so he didn't have to do the recovery twice. Was a little more work for me to help him but was well worth it when he was up and pain free!
