Users of Def that I have heard talk are not so much against the added cost of adding Def, though that is a concern. The bigger issue is what it screws up on the equipment. Chris of LetsDig 18 has a pretty new dozer that started throwing codes went to limp mode because of a def issue. Did it a couple times It was about 15 K to get it fixed. As far as DEF goes, I can only comment on the trucking side as that’s all I’m familiar with. The DEF and SCR system in general isn’t really the issue. It’s the DPF and Regen system that causes the problems. DEF actually does create a much cleaner exhaust as the chemical reaction happens. The DPF system being an actual filter that gets clogged is the big problem and is apparently unneeded going off of tests from overseas. A few years ago there was even rumors of going to an SCR system alone and eliminating the DPF system.

      I'm a test driver for a lift truck company. I completely agree about DPF and Regen. In my opinion it is ridiculous to have to park for 30 - 45 minutes while it cleans the system. I feel sorry for those who need to get things done, but can't. I guess I'm lucky that I'm only testing and not in any sort of production.
      Sidenote; I don't know about anyone else, but I can't even leave the truck unattended. As soon as I exit the truck, it shuts down and I have to start all over again. I learned that the hard way. 😋

    emissions is a bit of irritating thing for me, when it involves semi trucks. the KW t800 at my work was in the shop almost every two weeks for an emissions related issue. we had it deleted and we gained horsepower, reduced fuel consumption by about 20 gallons a day, and the truck hasn't been in the shop for anything more than brakes and tires for over a year now

    • @wishusknight3009
      @wishusknight3009 2 года назад +1

      I had some of the emissions junk deleted on my pickup too. Some of it is still in place though. (i couldn't tell you what parts) I dont care to "roll coal" or send billows of black into the sky. I keep my foot out of it, and it seems to burn pretty clean and meet T1 emissions.
      Hey, I love that there is concern and an effort to help the environment, but I wish there was a better way...

    • @mikes47jeep
      @mikes47jeep 2 года назад +1

      @@wishusknight3009 I also think we should help the environment, what I have a hard time understanding is how burning 20 gallons a day more per truck is somehow better. means you have to pump more oil, refine more oil, transport more fuel
      they made somewhere in the neighborhood of 250,000 t800's and at 20 gallons a day fuel savings a day it 5,000,000 gallons A DAY now its just a rough figure but imagine if all the trucks in the US were that much more fuel efficient,
      wouldn't that make a bigger environmental impact than a little exhaust smoke?

    • @wishusknight3009
      @wishusknight3009 2 года назад

      @@mikes47jeep Well, from what I understand, burning more fuel to ensure that all the fuel is burned is going to result in gas emissions that are less harmful and can be dealt with by other means. Trees can convert those gasses to oxygen easier IIRC. If that outweighs the refinement and transportation of the fuel then it may be worth it. Those 250000 trucks are a lot of extra smoke.
      I am no scientist and certainly don't know how to run the numbers or anything. And for sure there is some profit motive involved. I am just trying to make a credible counter argument. I agree with you there is some crap about the whole thing that i have a hard time adding up. Which is why I wished there was a better way.
      Some sort of cheap magic battery that held enough charge to power a transport truck across the country while only taking a few hours to charge with some solar panels... And would last for decades and could be disposed of with no environmental risk... One can only dream i guess.

    Thanks for another great video. Most enjoyable.
    Waiting for the fields to dry up is a good time to do these odd jobs like you and dad are doing. Burning a pile of old trees and getting rocks out of the way is good job done.
    Appreciate the way you and your dad work together. Some do not have that. Your teamwork is great and a plus getting things done.
    The great relationship you and your dad have is a treasure. My compliments to your dad and you for the fine relationship you have. Just wonderful.
    The DNR is kind of hard to deal with at times. We got them stirred up once over burning. I think you dad did right by calling them, just avoids any issues. Just saying.
    Thanks for your filming and Becky for editing.
    My best to your dad. Very nice gentleman!!!!
    You too Zach!!!!
    Looking forward to the next video.
    Thanks for everything.
    The Iowa farm boy.

    I bought a big skiddy that takes DEF, with about a 190 hours on it, its had a new scr injector, new def tank, they reprogrammed it twice and now its using the entire tank of def every 20-25 hours...so definitely something wrong again. But hey, it's good for our lungs for some reason.

    Hi Zack Johnson. My name is Eric Johnson. I worked side by side with my dad for 35 years. We had 100,000 laying hens an 200 beef cattle. Back in 90ds. Then FHA farm loans recalled all the loans. Had to go bank rupted. End of farm. My point here is cherish the time you have with your dad. My dad passed last year. All I think about is what life on the farm was.i watch all your vids. Even though they bring tears to my eyes. My point is cherish your dad. It's once in a life time. Your friend pa chicken farmer.

    Just want to give my two cents on the DEF question. It is a good thing. It helps protect the environment, we in the agriculture industry are more in tune with weather and nature and environment protection than most people, so we do need help with it, BUT, this is a big but, the current way to do it is creating problems for tractors. On trucks its mostly problem free, but, on tractors, because engine speed is a lot more variable it creates a lot of issues. I have the Distribution in Mozambique for Valtra and Massey Ferguson and I do have a lot of insider information. From engineers to factory mechanics to dealers the hate for DEF is real.
    I hope we get an alternative soon.

    You are so lucky to have a good relationship with your sweet dad. I never had that with my dad. I spent so much time avoiding conflict with him. He was very moody and the simplest thing could set him off. So not the ideal childhood.
