Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture. With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

3:30 checking that the fans are running:
Here’s a head-slapper “Why didn’t I think of that?” idea.
I was in a Japanese engine plant back around 1987. In those days a lot of the machines were controlled by pc. Each pc had a cooling fan, but you couldn’t hear them running when the machine tools were running. The Ford plants in the U.S. had electronic monitors and a small computer readout on each fan. The maintenance team people monitored the screens as they went about their work.
At the Mazda engine plant they had a cheap little kid’s pinwheel clamped onto each fan housing - and all the employees were trained to glance at the pinwheels. If the line was running and a pinwheel wasn’t pinwheeling, maintenance would be notified. Those little pinwheels cost - what - 10 cents, 25 cents each? Very reliable and cheap to replace.
Imagine how long a 10 cent pinwheel would work outside. In the elements. In Minnesota.
Hey Zach I think you should talk about the fact that FBN is not selling anymore seed. Our FBN rep never told us and we found out by a competitor. There's a lot of farmers that probably don't even know about that. Thanks for the great content to watch.
I saw a lot of comments about the backpack blower. We used to use a commercial air compressor now I use an Echo PB9010T which is the most powerful blower on the market today I used to use a Stihl doesn't compare to the Echo blower. You will save yourself so much time.
Zach, this is the first year I can remember here in southwestern IN that we never got the corn head rained on during harvest also. Cleaned up quickly and easily. Happy holidays to all!
Harvest completed !!!
No mud
No downed crops.
No mired machinery.
Tillage mostly caught up by Thanksgiving !!!
SWEET BABY JESUS !!!!
Zac, I admire you're grit and determination to look after your family,
Many thanks from Australia
Someone mentioned a leaf blower to blow off equipment. I use a commercial backpack blower and I think it would do a good job and faster on the heaver debris. I did not mention the brand, but it begins with an S. It moves large stones. I got it to move the over 200lbs of acorns' I get.
commercial blower with a hose that is narrower even than stock!!! MORE POWER!! :)
ECHO has a backpack blower that moves more air than anything on the market.
@@nick-un9pk Not anymore. The new Red Max 9000 is king of the heap by quite a bit.I own one ( I actually own 5 top tier BP's of various brands and models) and it is definitely the top dog by quite a bit now.
That's what i would be using. I have used an air hose just like he did here, and even a 25cc leaf blower works faster for dry stuff. but ideally i would get a 60cc or bigger backpack blower.
@@nick-un9pkEcho is junk. Stihl makes the best leaf blowers.
That red Peterbilt looks sharp against the backdrop of those silos! 💪
I know exactly what you mean by "bittersweet". In the spring, you take a tiny little seed and put in the ground, then you care for it, water it, watch it grow. Hours of hard work to get to harvest. Harvest arrives and you see the fruits of your labor and race is one to get the crop in before bad weather sets in. Suddenly, it's over. You are back to where you started with bare earth. Another crop in, another year gone.
Thanks for the " tootles!"
Im glad you are done with harvest without any major issues. Stay safe and enjoy the holidays
I feel your pain with regards of blowing off machines post harvest with a small compressor/ 3/8 hose. I finally broke down and just rented a big one like Randy’s. We don’t have as much as you, but, boy, what a difference it makes for a dirty job.
I'm glad your done with harvest. It means you have more time for the family and community. I pray everything goes well this winter.
Glad to see harvest 24 inj the books. Have a great week and stay safe.
Thankful for those cabs on the combine. I ran many farm tractors in the "BC TIME" (Before Cabs Time).
So at the end of this hay season I wasn't very happy. We suffered a severe drought which gave us very poor yields on second cutting grass and I knew to be able to meet customer demands I had to start shopping and then hauling from areas outside the drought zone. Luckily I only had to go about an hour west or south. I did the same thing last year because of the wildfire smoke. Praying for a better '25
Thanks for the pups at the beginning of each video!! My dawg loves it! Mornin’ Becky! from Nebraska
You keep scratchin' Digg's head...and I'll keep watchin'...! Oh!...and keep givin' Anna and Digg rides in the 4x4 !! 👍👌🤣😆😂🙃😂🤣
Here's hopes the Johnson's have a great 🦃day feast and keep it between the rows! Always good editing Becky!!
I was saying to my wife "Farmer" get a big air compressor multiple times throughout your video. We had to laugh at the end when you said you were saving for a bigger compressor. And we enjoy your video's.
I am glad your harvest season was perfect. It doesn't make for high interest videos, but nobody got hurt, yields were good, and costs were low. I am very happy for you.
You need to make a rope with a weight and a flag. Weight on the inside is heavy enough to pull the rope and flag over or through a pipe in the roof. Released from the frond, the flag reverse indicates how full the bin is. If the flag is in the right spot it will correspond at the ground most ring just like when the bin is full. Keeps you from going up and down the bin.
As a hired operator we were required to clean off the equipment every shift change. Days cleaned the combines night cleaned the headers.
Green beans are the worst, the machine looks like a Chia Pet after 24 hours. I'll go back on nights please.
Nice edit. No snot on the lens. Whew.
Like others have said below, we use leaf blowers on our combines, I personally like the Ego battery powered leaf blower it is easier to get into those hard to get to spots, we also use the Echo backpack blowers they blow a bit harder but are not nearly as mobile. Anyway in my experience both leaf blowers are much faster at cleaning combines than compressed air.
Thanks Zack, been a great year watching you and family on the farm. Love all and pups as well. From Lethbridge Alberta 🇨🇦. Doug.
I used to hate that job myself! Mind you in my day combines were more open, less guards etc so was easier, but still a pain. You've got to get all this augers and elevators clear to stop the vermin. Is a nightmare when it comes to pre harvest checks when you turn everything over, and find their nests come flying out! That is the worst part of cleaning out. Thanks Becky, and Zach, always enjoy your hard work, 'cos I don't have to do it myself anymore!!!!!!!!!
Buy a very large shop vac to be on wheels so you can move it around outside around your dryers to suck up the corn dust and other crap you been shoveling up, something like a bagger for a riding lawnmower.
Save yourself some PIA go buy a 185 cfm diesel air compressor. We have a 185 and 600 for blowing manure hoses out we thought we would get rid of the 185 but we use it all the time to blow off equipment.
Seems like you guys had a great harvest compared to some past years. No storms knocking your corn down. No rain making muddy fields swallowing your equipment. In short, no drama this year! It’s amazing how fast Onyx is growing up. He now is a full operator of all your equipment. Look out Jim! Onyx is gunning for you! 😂
Glenwood's favourite regional farmer.
Thanks, Becky
Please like everyone is saying. Get a Bad*ss stihl leaf blower. Handheld would be better for you i think then a backpack. Life will be easier
Electric blowers are best.
@@RealJeep yeah if you have the $1,000 in batteries. Gas is by far superior
Love stihl chainsaws but why do the backpacks sound so horrible. They have a very distinctive sound .. lol
@@keithcarlson4607 Are you on narcotics? I'll never go back to gas and it's abundantly obvious you have never priced electric blowers.
@@keithcarlson4607 We just bought a 2 pack DeWalt 5ah for $99
Zach; I drive a 1984 K20 Chevy Suburban. Working on it when I can getting mechanical and body stuff done; as I lack a garage & doing the work in the weather.
Would a leaf blower work better for the Chaff? My only thought with that is that it’s able to move a large volume of air.
Here in Argentina people use to blow the combines at the end of every day. Sometimes two people do the work, and the always use backpack blowers, like stihl br600. You should get something like that, is really useful and it saves a lot of time when compared to small compressors
I’d contact the local school and have some kid come over who needs a few bucks and have him/her work with your boy to do that cleaning of the equipment before you put them in the barn for the winter. I did that as a kid for a local farmer in a co-op program and i got off school early to go to the farm and I got credit for it towards my graduation. Plus I got paid!
Zach at the end of harvest it’s like Forest Gump. Well I am done running. Leaf blower on combine works great. 👍
As always I enjoy your videos very much and I'll keep watching and liking. I just have one question why do you not do time lapse and become like Superman moving around real fast anyways would just like to see some things time elapsed but it is what it is
Since you have a nice skid steer already, I'd reccomend a blower for that that can also help with snow in the winter on areas too sensitive to push. Look up the Buffalo turbine blowers.
Zach you should get a a big air compressor like thay use on sand blaster it would really cut down time and really does a realy nice job and makes washing it much easier
Glad to see harvest 2024 is in the books. Am glad you had a good harvest season!
try using a high volume leaf blower at the end of each day to keep the build up down of thrash and reduce fire risk.
Morning Zack. Thank you for the new videos.
Only Erin Holbert's John Deere equipment looks as good as new after a harvest. 🥳
Equipment auctions are always selling off big commercial compressors
I bought a 185 cfm tow behind air compressor cut my clean up time and half
These videos just aren't long enough. Great content, you'd think with Zach having a stunt double that we would get more footage.
All fake!
Zach I have chatted with Nate at Farm Rescue. Great need for they provide
Look on the bright side Zach.
Those jobs of blowing off the combines and cleaning out the dryer will be the first you officially pass on to the next generation 😉
Castair Inc in Spicer Mn is Mn made quality Air compressors. Sizes for All needs
There’s a lot of farming RUclips channels out now but there’s only ONE original channel that started the whole moment and that channel is this one for everyone who might be new to this content category
You are correct. You need a BIG Compressor with Airflow City. Great Job.
congrats on a successful harvest. i drive a 74 GMC 4x4
Great video - so happy you didn't have to deal with wet muddy fields this year in harvest.
Put a clean out conveyor under your dryer and empty the material into a small waste bin that you can move around with the skid steer.
Zach you should look up applied varimount compressor. Goes onto the 3 point of your tractor and is by far the best tool I’ve seen for blowing down a machine!
He doesn't get paid to farm. Just make videos!
I want an Anna and Gidge shirt, Zack. Make it happen. :) Happy end of another safe harvest Johnson Family. God Bless
Thanks another good video. I also like anything that comes out. So to the naysayers about how long it is watch it twice than you will have a 22 minute video.
It’s a cotton pickin handy trailer. Zach I didn’t even know you grew cotton. Lol
He raises it to make tampons!
We use a Milwaukee dual battery hand held works great
you need a 1/4 x 12' length of water pipe with a valve on it to get away from dirt and debris flying. and safety glasses.
I really miss you saying THUNDERRRRRR every time you use the trailer….. that always was the highlight of a video 😉
Could you put a tote at the bottom of your dryer so all of that falls into that tote? You could just pick it up with your skid steer and not have to shovel as much?
I am thankful that I watched you work! Would a battery powered lawn blower work better???
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. The sweatshirt/hoodie I got from ya sure gets some attention around town and its so comfortable.
Hi there Richard here I love your video and I love how every year your son comes help with harvest and hope you and your family are doing well and you need a full face mask so you don't getting in your eyes
Or put a large tarp under the dryer so you can pick it up with a few friends to get rid of the corn dust
Since you're reasonably close to the shop when you blow off the combine.
Why not run a large line and fitting to the back of the shop, then you can run a hose from that large compressor. Rather than using the little gas compressor?
I got some tyvek suits and a full face 3m mask. Blew out combine didn’t even get itchy
at 9:45 is there a bushing/bearing out? or is that some sort of rocker(looks like the pulley that drives the belt for the cleaning fan, but idk as i'm a cih guy)?
It ain’t out. All s series end up looking like that. That’s the variable cleaning fan pulley after it moves once or twice it ends up looking like that
Ad starts: 5:25
Ad ends 6:30
also is he unironically drinking lmnt on a video that he's not sponsored by them or it's a secret sponsor?
Is a leaf blower not strong enough to push corn husk?
ZACH I would look around for a commercial trailer compressor used for construction or roadworks with jackhammer etc as long as it runs you’re good.
A trick I use when blowing off dust and chaff is to get an old school pair of those gas welding goggles and just use the clear lenses. Yeah, you'll look gumpy, but it keeps all that junk from making your eyes itch.
Something like a "3M Versaflo Heavy Industry PAPR Kit TR-600" would make that clean up job a lot better (regarding the itchy eyes) I'm guessing. Also as others have stated a very strong leaf blower. Love the content as always!
enjoy your adult beverage and happy turkey day
A backpack leaf blower would work fast.
Give it a try
Happy Thanks Giving to you and your family.
Congrats on a successful harvesting season...........Stay safe :D
I'm feeling bad about your little blower. Hope you have a great Thanksgiving with family and friends.
I loved your dad T-shirt. Farmer First.
Happy Thanksgiving to you're family
Thanks for the show guys 🍻
U need to get Brody from Larson farms up there he will have your stuff shining like a new dime.
Just eating lunch and then see "new video - released 2 min ago"
Epic
i just subbed i really love country farms and country music
Dudes ok, just grinding like everyone else, happy Thanksgiving boss.
The fun part of farming! We made the mistake on my uncle's dairy farm of telling him we were bored! Right after that we got the job of cleaning the milking parlor top to bottom. Never did that again!
Zach would it make sense to attach some plastic streamers on those fan shrouds ? They would give a quick, visual signal if ant fans were not spinning.
Zach would you be kind enough to share the type of glasses/goggles you’re wearing?
I’ve been looking for a pair to keep dust and crud out of my eyes and am having a bear of a time finding a pair. The pair you’re wearing look to create a good seal around your eyes.
Thank you kindly in advance.
Ever tried a Stihl leaf blower? Seems like it would work great for a lot jobs around the farm.
Did your Dad get rid of his Ram? If so was there a main reason?
A Stihl br600 backpack blower would come in handy for cleaning equipment and the bin site.
We got a 850 things a beast
You mean making more of a mess 😂😂
Maybe a Stihl back pack blower would make short work of that?
You need a biohazard suit to blow off the combine. Man that builds up everywhere
Backpack leaf blower not compresses air on the combine
Get a 9010t echo backpack blower. Will make quick work of thay
Ive really never commented before on your page. Out of curiosity where the head meets the combine do you ever experience any corrosion from metal on metal? if so I, I may have a solution. I currently am an aircraft mechanic that works with 3D printers to help aid in aircraft shortage of parts and have been an aircraft mechanic for 12years. I have 14 years experience with aircraft and if you have a spare moment id love to toss an idea by you to potentially save yourself and your equipment.
Have a rental outfit deliver a commercial compressor, end of harvest. Better money management 😅😊😅😊🎉🎉❤❤
Leaf blower!! A good one works great for that!!
185 cfm air compressor. Makes quick work of the job and a lot less miserable
I use a leaf blower to get the bulk of the junk off equipment then a compressor. Seems like it takes less time
The Dog's are the best part of this video , 👍
Zack I want to talk to you about using a leaf blower to clean the combine then air compressor for small areas.
