It's a beautiful day to go and harass Randy the Master Pipe layer. In agriculture, tile drainage is a type of drainage system that removes excess water from soil below its surface. Whereas irrigation is the practice of providing additional water to soil when it is naturally too dry, drainage reduces the moisture in soil and thereby increases the amount of air in its pores so as to augment conditions for optimal growth of crops. While surface water can be drained by pumping, open ditches, or both, tile drainage is often the most prudent practice for draining subsurface water.
Here are five myths about farm tiling:
    1. Tiling is totally unregulated
    2. Tiling speeds water movement off the land
    3. Tiling contributes to water quality problems
    4. Tiling is not a conservation practice
    5. Tiling is bad for soil health

Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture.
With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

It would be impossible (and stupid) not to observe your preparation of the next generation, Onyx, to join you, just as you joined your father, in the life of professional farmer. Your "little boy" is suddenly a junior partner in the business. Congratulations for bringing him in (with your wife's acceptance) as well as encouraging him in your "escape" racing. Just as generations before: you are returning to the land... your son is joining you in that desire/mission. You deserve everyone's admiration..... as well as appreciation for feeding us.

I had it explained to me once that if you dip a butter knife into a glass of water, when you take it out, the excess water will drain off of the knife but there is still water on the knife. That's all the water that the knife can hold. Soil is the same way in how much water it can hold. The rest just drains away.

Most of our farm is already tiled with clay tile. Back in the 50's and 60's, my wife's great uncle bought a Buckeye and did a LOT of the tiling in northern Michigan when the government was cost sharing on tile. His son still has the machine. It still runs and operates as it should. It's not really as cost and time effective as the plows. I helped him tile a 40 about 8-9 years ago. It was pretty cool. The only issue we have now is blowouts. The ground washes out underneath it in one little spot and it starts washing soil down the tile line and forms a pretty good sized hole in the ground. We dig the tile up and replace the sections with black plastic and pray that we did a good job when we cover it back over. Right now we've got a bunch of blowouts and we're struggling to find a backhoe to use. We're looking into buying one instead of borrowing. Good job on the videos. You do a good job of showing and explaining all different aspects of the ag industry that most people would never get a chance to see and/or understand. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for another great video. It was most interesting seeing how the pipe laying machinery works and how they plan out the fingers of pipe to drain the water. Most interesting. Randy’s machine is a big beast for sure. Have seen the finished product before but never the process of laying it out. Thanks for that. That fire you showed in I believe you said Clinton was a big one. Lots of damage there. Can see why it was a real hot fire being all wood. Wow.
Onyx got some good work on connecting the pipes together. Good experience for him. Way to go Onyx. Good to learn other people’s work process. Good young man. You all take care and be safe. Looking forward to the next video. Thanks. The Iowa farm boy from years ago.

Your dogs are awesome. We have a security system. Two labs that bark at anpin drop. That soil on your farm is beautiful. We live in central PA. Beautifal area with lots of beautiful farms. But our soil is hard clay. When our house was built the developer stripped the good top soil and sold it. Ittookyearsto buildup our soil again to get things to grow. I hope you guys soon get a few good days of a nice slow steady ground soaking rain. Not flooding. Here we have had a good amount of rain this summer. Other parts of Pa. Not so much. I hope you guys can recover from the drought. God bless your family.

We love our dirt track racing here in PA. We havetwotracs in our area. Used to be a third but sadly they shut down. We went racing Fri Sat, and Sunday. My hearing would stop ringing by Thurs. Only to be blasted again. Wecwereat a racetrack called Grandview and huge chunk of dirt with a huge five inch rock in it some how came thru the fence and nailed my right ankle. I though I got shot. The pain w a s awful. Itimmediately swelled up and bled like mad. My hubby was so into the race I couldn't get him to help me down the bleachers to get help. Thank goodness some stranger seen ,e and helped me down and called the medical crew. They thought I got shot to. There was a hole in the bone of my ankle. It took part of the bone away. It was ugly. H a d to get stitches. It healed but I never sat in the turns again at any dirt track. We aree going racing this weeken I can't wait. Be safe racing.

In 1986 I went to work for a guy in Jefferson Iowa. His grandfather tiled an 180 field by hand when he bought it. Some of that tile was about 20' deep to make it drain. His grandfather walked out here from Ohio with his shoes on his back. He didn't want to wear them out. They were a lot tougher than we are today. I am guessing that machine can tile more in an few hours than he could all summer long. That is a very cool machine. Just another example of how farmers use science and technology that I am sure most city people on the coast have no idea about.

    Onyx exudes cool.
His name is not one I had heard before I started watching you, but it is great and it suits him perfectly.
I really like his clothes too. All UnderArmor stuff.
He is a very lucky lad to have the childhood he is having. You must be so proud of him.
The work that goes into tiling is much more involved than I assumed it would be. It must be a huge outlay to get it done.

I always loved the old Minnie Moline's. We never had any on our farm, but a neighboring farmer who had a field across from our main farm, had a Moline, and when I was probably just 3 or 4 yrs old, and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. I've always wanted to buy one to put a moldboard plow on to take to Rantoul.

I was actually curious (backstory as someone that’s 6’9 and 6’11 in Boots and 315 which is a healthy weight for my height doctor said it himself at 19 I rarely actually go and look at merch to see if it’s by a rare chance have them in talls.) So I actually went to look at the merch cause the one the legend Zach had on in this video was a awesome mf design. I was kinda disappointed to find out they don’t have them in talls. I hoped they would cause zachs taller then the average person. I swear I’m trying to have other clothes then just carharrt everything in my closet. (They make amazing big and tall clothes. EVEN BUTTON DOWNS ((which is very very rare to find)) on a lighter note least the videos and podcasts don’t let me down. I still wonder how big a elephant penis actually is............

I vote for tall shirts too. Only 6ft3 but long torso and ordered 2 shirts. They were too short after 2 washes. Would like to order more but not without any tshirts in a tall. I need a 3XLT. Thank you.
