Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture.
With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

The last time I saw tiling was with real tile, mid 1950s, on my grandfather's farm in southern Michigan. A real trench was dug, 12-18 inch terra-cotta tile were laid in it several inches apart with a folded roof shingle placed over the gap. I think the trench was filled by hand. (This was 65 years ago so I might not remember the details.) The total run was to the south about ¾ mile into the East Branch of the St. Joseph River, near Pioneer, Ohio. I remember being amazed that water was already flowing out of the completed section.

Thanks for a fun and educational video, Zach! Sure is a far cry from the way we used to put tile in. We started laying tile behind a Number One Buckeye, 4 cyl Leroy engine, and no hydraulics, all cable and clutch control. I'd like you say you made it look fun, but tiling can be helluva job. Ask Randy, I'm sure he's been in some real messes, that make you wonder what ever posest you do get in to this kind of work!! LOL!!

I'd like to see a follow up that shows soil tests and multiple water quality tests, you've shown taking tile water samples before, just to show the positive environmental and (profit) bottom line effects this has. Reducing nutrient off flow is so important for water quality which is a huge environmental issue. Farmers are making huge efforts to improve the environment for the future generations. Water quality is just as important as air quality.
We planted well over 10000 trees on our property but didn't do a lot of water quality improvements. Admittedly a lot less top soil and rain but you guys are doing a much better job.
    Keep learning, keep sharing!
