Thanks for watching the Honest Commentary everybody! How did you feel about the movie? How did you feel about Joe’s hat? Dan’s hat? Should Spencer have a hat? What about the metaphorical joke hats?
Let us know in the comments and please don’t tell the guys how bad I messed this post up. I’m trying my best.
PS POST YOUR GUESSES FOR NEXT WEEKS TRAILER IF YOURE WRONG WE’LL MAKE FUN OF YOU jk
Is it the greatest showman?
thanks for the upload i have been a fan for awhile except when you guys get political but hey I can look past that small problem lol do love the commentary
As an NC State fan, I have issues with the FSU hat.
Spencer should wear tiny hats
hahaha loved it! (BTW green light on He Man!)
Please ask Taika to do commentary with you, just like Russo Brothers.....that would be the best thing ever
If we got Taika and didn’t have Roth in the vid she would never forgive us and I don’t blame her tbh
You should watch the Blu-ray with commentary. He talks about nothing related to the movie and is frequently interrupted by his 2 year old daughter. Worst commentary ever.
Honest trailer for The hunt for the wilderpeople, that movie needs more attention!
KA Lewis that sounds amazing! 😀 I would listen to him talk about anything
@@kalewis7735 That makes me want to listen to it even more lol
At 14:03 the narrator says "get pumped" and korg pumped his shotgun. Great editing
Fandral, Volstagg and Hogun. Imma go get myself a life now.
Now again without Googling them up.
You got a life and WE ARE ON BOARD
Also I did not check if you’re right
In the Thor comic run by Simonson they are very likeable and interesting so I know them from there, but movie-wise I didn't even notice that they killed of 3 of them, I only saw 1, lol
I just noticed that the Asian of the Warriors Three is just Shogun minus the "S"...
I knew their names only because they are amazing in the JMS comic run not because of the movies.
Nobody's talking about Hela. She didn't do much per say, but I really enjoyed how deranged she was when talking to Scurge. She's the enjoyable to watch kind of a psycho.
yeah i agree. if the movie had a more darker and serious tone then Hela would have been one of the best MCU villains.. but the comedy tone really keeps things light and focused on sakar planet
I liked her, but the second time I watched, I had to forward all her parts without her brothers. I think it's because she was in a boring setting.
Fun Fact:They switched to the green screen field because test audiences didn’t like when Hela originally showed up in NY & Odin being a bum on the streets.
Test audiences are awful
dynamitejimi tfftttynhvf
Yea you can clearly see in the trailer the same sequence takes place in an alley. The change was last minute
Which explains the Dr. Strange scene.
I get that, but then the scene with Odin gazing whistfully before becoming golden dust was him staring at like a dumpster?
I wanna know how Spencer, Dan and Joe rank the MCU Movies!!!!! They need to do this before Infinity War!!!!!!
Or how about a Cram It video on the franchise?
Good Call!!!! They haven't done one in a while!!!!
We’re planning all sorts of fun Marvel stuff for infinity war release! And thanks to the release change our editors get to WORK EVEN HARDER
You MUST do MASTERS! OF! THE! UNIVERSE! Best idea ever.
DoomchildXXL Why?! Not?! LoL 😂
DO IT!!!!! DO IT NOW!
Another vote for MotU!
One of those shots of Loki in the “Starring” sequence, could’ve been accompanied by “Oh Hi Mark!”
destroying the hammer was such a great move by taika, in retrospect. As it changed thor from being an overpowered god to someone who had to rediscover his powers. I feel bad for mjolnir, but this needed to be done.
As a huge fan ... and a geologist: Yep, its "Karst" Joe, you were right! XD
Asgardians of the Galaxy is better than Flash Thordon imo
Wesley Solmon it's really good
They would be called out for ripping off Toon Sandwich
most of the the other titles were better!!!
Both are pretty good. Thundarr the Barbarian for Hemsworth/Thor was a pretty good alternate too.
this is my first comment on any video and will probably also be the last, but this has been bugging me about Thor Ragnarok for so long...When people complain that the drama is undercut by a joke, what they tend not to realise is that it's part of Taika Waititi's brand of comedy - he explores the absurdity of our lives, the meaningless of our tragedies and how we find comedy in them...for reasons. So the dramatic element of the film isn't Thor's friends being killed, his dad being killed, his planet being destroyed...it's that the universe doesn't care. The universe makes a joke out of Thor's tragedy and heartache and yet he manages to triumph over it and grow as a person/alien and still find meaning in a cosmos that gives no fucks and has no shits to give.
also, love screenjunkies, keep doin' what you're doin'
El Bookish thanks for sharing! We hope it’s not your last comment!
El Bookish Sorry, but no. I am very well aware of taika waititi's filmmaking. I just did not like it for this story of Thor. End of asgard? Not really the topic for all that humor. I loved what we do in the shadows. I just didn't like all the tags in this movie. I still enjoyed the film, just not as much as I thought bc the humor seemed a little too incongruous with the subject matter. But that's my opinion. I don't presume that anyone who disagrees with me just doesn't understand it.
Jennifer Ramos, it's cool if you don't like it, I've watched this film several times and still don't really know how I feel about that aspect of it and whether it worked or not.
I just wanted to point out that it was a deliberate stylistic choice, not just comedy for its own sake, or someone having said 'the tender and fragile hearts of our target audience couldn't possibly handle the trauma of Asgard being destroyed...quick! keep this family friendly and stuff a joke on the end!'
"Asgardians of the Galaxy" was a bit better tbh
Fun fact: In the original myths, Loki is the adoptive brother of Odin... and the father of Hella.... interesting adaptive choices.
Please say: "Our apologies to Matt Damon, we ran out of time!"
Contact jimmy
He might help🤣🤣
"Piss off, ghost!" was probably the best joke of the movie. I have no idea why it gets me so good every time.
Same.
I would watch those 3 guys just sit in an talk about anything . Best part of my day.
I think the evil rise to power mural was done by the same guy that did the new mural. So he did not want to destroy his old work, probably lied said "aww yeah Odin I took out that old work". I mean the artist is an imortal too, so he probably just closed down the area for 1000 years till he was done, getting drunk and stuff.
Thor Ragnarok is one of my favorite MCU movies.
We really saw his hammer get destroyed, Odin die, Asgard destroyed and him be scared to a point that it will stay with his appearance from now on, all in one movie, and none of it carried any weight.
I do agree that the comedy didn’t go as overboard as Guardians 2 did, in my opinion.
I approve of 'Masters of the Universe' Honest trailer....uh I mean "The Last Jedi" honest trailer.
DAN'S IMPRESSIONS ARE THE BEST
MCU Ranking
1. Captain America: Civil War
2. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
3. The Avengers
4. GOTG
5. Thor: Ragnarok
6: Black Panther
7. Spider-Man:Homecoming
8. Iron Man
9. Avengers: Age Of Ultron
10. GOTG 2
11. Ant Man
12.Iron Man 3
12.Captain America: The First Avenger
13. Doctor Strange
14.Thor: The Dark World
15.Thor
16. The Incredible Hulk
17. Iron Man 2
P.S. I personally LOVE all of them
Squalid Tuber I would have winter soldier as 1 and swap Iron man for civil war. Other then that I agree fully.
He Man and the Masters of the Universe please
What Thor Ragnarok?? I didn’t expect this especially after Spencer’s clue last week.
Dan, I'm with you. They overdid it to the point where it kinda killed the movie for me. Everything else was so good, but when they killed every moment of emotional depth with jokes I felt like I wasn't able to invest in the movie.
Asgardians of the Galaxy !!! They called it
Wait... is next week's trailer Bright? That's the feeling I'm getting from their hint...
Yeah, I think it is definitely Bright. I wonder if they will get Max Landis to talk about it.
Oh please be Bright!
probably not since they'll be hitting hard (mostly joe) and landis is a sexual harasser
Camilo Ramos Paiva I thought he was just accused by a vague tweet, did anything actually happen
a few women gave interviews without revealing their names, and other women talked about friends who where harassed by him, the thing is that in sexual assault there's not much evidence other than what the victims say, considering they don't have nothing to win and a lot to lose I then to believe them
Thor: Ragnarok had a lot of jokes, but I loved every single one of them. For me this is my favorite Marvel movie, cause I love a good laugh.
Fun fact, I used to study and work around the area of where they filmed Thor. (I had to move from Brisbane due to a change of job but visited for Comic-Con and met Karl Urban)
I love the scene where Thor founds his inner God of Thunder, and while the Immigrant song plays.
Taika waititi should direct A Fantastic Four movie
12:38 And so, they made a Masters of the Universe Honest Trailer. Thus ends the epic saga of waiting.
Have Epic Voice Guy say, "Okay, Honest Trailer, YOU'RE the Honest Trailer."
I’m really enjoying these commentaries, great job guys! One suggestion: why not have a button on the table to allow you to pause/unpause and fast-forward/rewind the trailer as needed?
Maxwell Powers money!
0:37 Okay, one of my FAVOURITE MEMORIES from college was a dude wearing a hat, on a hat, on a hat!!! ITS HAT-DUDE !!!
...
Maybe I was just drunk, maybe I don't get out enough, maybe I don't know how to party, or maybe, MAYBE, I've mastered comedy.
Also, apologies to Hat Dude. I'm sure you had a name, I should have learned it.
Is it weird that I look forward to this more than the trailer itself?
Jumping from one vehicle to fight bad guy in other vehicle is definitely a thing - finally watched Black Panther the other day and same thing happens in the S. Korean chase scene...
I will give it a 9/10
Lack of Led Zeppelin reference docked it a point for me but you guys knocked it out the park on this one!
The problems with Hulk come from people wanting "Hulk smash" when the comic is also a deep psychology study of what make rage so addictive and the price of letting it out.
I loved the first THOR movie and Ragnarok was awesome too. The DArk World needs defenders as well - it's still fun and Loki's great.
I was fine with the warriors three death but what annoyed me was having zero reaction or recognition from Thor. Like not even a "they gave their lives bravely" or something. They took all the death (which was the whole of asgaards warrior force) way too lightly. I still loved the movie though!
Yeah, agree with you and Dan there. The movie had too much silly humor for being about Ragnarok. His friends die, tons of his country men die, his dad dies, his hammer gets busted, he loses an eye... and all we get is a few jokes and some Zepplin in response. Also, rock guy was really hard to take seriously as a gladiator or a revolutionary leader when he's nothing but a series of quips. Though at least they managed to resist turning Valkyrie's backstory into nothing but a series of jokes as well. Do like the movie, did like the comedy take on a super hero movie, but letting at least some feeling of loss exist would have been nice.
1:50 lmaooo them just roasting p diddy for half a minute. Absolutely hilarious
What I loved about Thor Ragnarok is that it is at its heart a tragedy, but you feel like it's a comedy. Thor is constantly losing in this movie. His girlfriends, his father, his hammer, his freedom (temporarily), his hair, his eye, his home world. In the movie prior he lost his mother, in Infinity War he loses Hiemdall, and Loki, half of his people and his new spaceship. It is no wonder that in Endgame that he is super depressed.
"Th4r" (or "T4or?") got me good.
Ant-Man was made when Ike Perlmutter and the Marvel “creative committee” were still interfering. They were removed in 2015, during the making of Civil War.
Eh, I think there were more issues than this. Ant-man was suppose to happen in Phase 1 but Wright delayed the movie TWICE for other projects and Marvel not only waited patiently, but also blocked the Wasp for him. And for what? So that he could kill her off because he has no idea what to do with a female character? And then he goes and leaves Marvel in a lurch in the last minute after all those years.
Nearly all the stuff liked about Ant-man is something either Reed, Rudd or their writing team came up with. While everything I heard about Wright's version, I do not like.
Which is why Joss Whedon was so unhappy with what they made him do with Ultron and he left kind of angry.
Kevin Feige didn't have the power back then to stand up to them, but he does now and things have gotten better ever since (thanks to Bob Iger).
Missed out on a "dont taze me bro" joke.
Thanks JTE for the loooong pause on Hemsworth abs! I have to admit to blushing when Spencer called me out for not taking in a word they said while abs were on screen. I've rewatched twice and still not sure I heard everything they said. Fun trailer and episode though, thanks Screen Junkies!
Cap taking down the SHIELD jet is still the best one of those. Just the build up and then him not even breaking stride just makes it perfect.
I really really appreciate that pause on Chris's abs props to guy behind the camera
The trailer line "best he-man movie" had me busting out loud laughing. I know that had to be a line from Joe. Spencer is clever, but Joe has that one stunningly funny joke that always gets me. That's not an insult, Joe! Those are drop the mic gems.
The criticism of "there's too many jokes -too many jokes" gets pretty annoying after a while, they don't like laughing too much?
The subtitle of the film is RAGNAROK. Meaning TWILIGHT OF THE GODS! ITS THE VIKING APOCALYPSE! This film should NOT have been a comedy!!!
I couldn't agree more.
Too many laboured jokes, like the (paraphrasing) "Asgard will always be there, oh never mind" ones.
14:00 Kevin Fiege is just like: "Dammit, they caught on to that too."
The Warriors Three: Fandral aka Robin Hood (played by Zachary Levi and then Josh Dallas), Hogun (played by Tadanobu Asano), and Volstagg aka Gimli (played by Ray Stevenson).
I had to look it up XD
the "For the Horde" line showing Hulk in Starring... nearly made me do a spit take with a mouth full of food. Loved it, best joke ever!
04:27 Remember the trailer for the film which depicted Hela crumpling Mjlonir? She was in an urban alley at the time. That's the advantage of the green screen; they can relocate the actors without having to film the scene over again.
12:39 Dan: "Can we do one for Masters of the Universe someday?"
Yes, Dan. Yes you can.
Hey, Odin didn't Luke Skywalker himself, Luke Skywalker Odin'd himself.
He OD'd. (on the force)
Yes, by the way, Thor does have 8 abs. There are 6 abdominal muscles over the stomach, but there are also another 2 longer ones that extend down over the pelvic bone. People who are SUPER toned, have 8-packs. That actually is an anatomical thing. (See also: body builders and/or Gray's Anatomy [the book, not the show].)
My buddy saw Thor in the shower, and he said that Thor had an 8-pack. That Thor was shredded.
;-)
I wish Ant-Man had been about Pym in his prime as Ant-Man. I realize Marvel brands itself as "fun" and "family friendly" but that would have been a chance to tackle some more serious themes.
This is one of the best Honest Trailers yet. You guys killed it. Well done!!
Imma let you finish, but Shrek 3 had the greatest Led Zeppelin song drop of all time
That was my problem with Homecoming, almost every tense moment in the film is diffused by a joke, to the point where I was dreading a joke coming in the tense scene when spidey is stuck under the rubble
Bathos. Marvel has a serious problem with the use of that trope. It's like they're embarrassed by their own own shit and can't just allow scenes to play out more honestly. Let the heroic stuff inspire and the sad or heated moments tug or gnaw at you. They play a scene out and before anyone can make fun of them for being cheesy, they make fun of themselves.
Don't wanna bring up DC, but someone else brought this to my attention and I didn't notice it at first but there isn't a single moment in that movie where heroism is subverted by a joke or interjection in any way and honestly it was refreshing and really inspiring to see those moments play out without the "bathos". Wonder Woman is a highly flawed movie (mostly the 3rd act) but it nailed all the heroic moments. Seeing her walk out into no mans land to do what heroes come to do was kinda perfect. Wish Marvel would learn to read the room a bit. Don't get why their movies are so childish while their comics are more tonally competent.
I dunno if Homecoming really had too many of those.
The only moments that I feel were intended to be tense and were were the rubble scene, Peter failing to save the ferry, the end fight, and most importantly his scene where Tony chastises him. Those are the only scenes that really needed it and they pulled through with those.
There's a difference between diffusing a tense moment and a moment not needing to be tense in the first place because you gotta understand that the general tone they were going for with this was classic high school comedy.
I can’t believe I haven’t seen any jokes about how Darcy tasered Thor first.
I just realised I come back to these commentaries to run away from my problems...
Thor was filmed in Sydney Australia
This is probably the smartest Marvel movie, but it tries to disguise itself as the dumbest Marvel movie 😂
Riiiiiiiggghhhttt
IAmThe Gameboy Or maybe it's just dumb.
It's definitely the funniest
Rudran Ratnanandan Both Guardians movies and even Ant-Man are funnier.
Honestly it's emmantly rewatchable. Kinda dumb tho
That Last Jedi Honest Trailer is gonna rock
I would MUCH rather see your Masters of the Universe Honest Trailer than one for the Last Jedi. Much.
Why is everyone asking for last Jedi. Havent people caught on to the fact they don't release an honest trailer until the Blu-ray comes out? They've already explained this once
Andrew Rivas I say the same thing every time, and even tell them the video where they say it (Stranger Things Honest Trailer Commentary). Last week everyone thought this week's was going to be Welcome to the Jungle, cuz Spencer's hint was "Rock" and I kept trying to tell them it couldn't be as it's still in theatres.
MommyOfMutants it's hilarious I know right. I think they also said they couldn't do Netflix shows because they needed the physical media to have the right to make an honest trailer on a Netflix show and Netflix doesn't really do that.
Andrew Rivas Yeah, they said something about how they weren't able to do Stranger Things at all, but then right before season 2 premiered, Netflix released just enough footage from season 1, so with that small amount of now-legal-to-use footage, they could do a HT for ST. Have any Netflix originals ever been released on DVD/Blu-Ray?
But I looked it up and Last Jedi will be legal to download on March 13, and released on DVD/Blu-Ray on March 27. So depending on how long it takes to write, film/record and edit, a HT for it could be out in the next few weeks. Still unsure about the legal use of "Bright" though. That seems to be the consensus for next week's video, but I've never seen it so I don't get the hints if it is, and I can't think of anything else they might be hinting about.
MommyOfMutants if they don't release bright I doubt they'll be able to do it. If I remember correctly early seasons of house of cards had physical media releases but I'm not 100% sure. I'm strictly streaming at this point myself lol. It's too bad bright is ripe for an honest trailer that movie is a mess. It's got a fun and interesting premise but like all Max Landis' work it's half baked and thoughtout at best.
Ike Perlmutter was in charge of the movie side of the MCU back when they fired Edgar Wright, but in 2015 he was re-assigned and Kevin Feige got total control and that creative council that said they couldn't use Jessica Chastin in Iron Man 3 because of toy sales. So if we do the math the latest string of MCU movies (every movie since 2016 has had at least an 80% on RT) has been entirely under Feige's control and that's especially true for the more "auteur" MCU movies that have been extremely well received as of late (Ryan Coogler-Black Panther, Taikia Whatiti-Thor 3) would have gone into production and that stuff around then and only had to answer to Feige.
Did you guys really hafta stop on the abs? 😭😭😭😭😥.... didn't hear a word of the commentary. 😍
I love that they are talking while a pic of Chris's abs are shown on screen?
Cap taking out the quinjet is the best fighting on the vehicle scene.
13:17 LMAO I almost peed my pants during this segment.
How have you guys not done an honest trailer for Baby Driver??
Too good of a movie, would only be nitpickings for sure
Fellas, I thoroughly appreciate the three minutes worth of y’all talking while the paused shot is Hemsworth’s abs. Keep up the fine work! #AAAaaaabs
I loved the Thundarr deleted comment. It was my favorite cartoon as a kid.
Guys... Meager update. Kevin Smith is doing a Masters of The Universe film. Praise Bob!
Asgard blowing up and the joke undercutting it it's fucking brilliant
Yes, please. Give me the Honest Trailers for Masters Of The Universe.
Fondue? (With cheddar?) Fondue? Fondril? Fandril!!
This is why we love the commentaries!
You should do an honest trailer for Avatar: The Last Airbender
The "AAAAAAABS" one was like how they did Bayonetta with "BEEEEEWBS"
I appreciate you choosing to pause and discuss at 5:35. Really looking out for me guys.
Missed opportunity to give Skurge the starring funny name “Bad to the Bones”, in reference to Karl Urban’s role as Dr. ‘Bones’ McCoy in Star Trek
green screen is the one thing that pissed me off about black panther, it had great shots of Africa then suddenly switched to a sound stage with a shit ton of green screen.
Three people at a table talking about movies. If this was some kind of game show it would be awesome! Maybe have rounds with different questions and let's them argue their point in front of a judge. Has anybody tried doing this yet?
Loved Flash Thorton. Grew up watching Flash Gordon, a fond memory. The reference was clever, tho I wonder if the young ones got it.
Just wanted to remind everybody of Shrek 3, they also used the Immigrant song by Led Zeppelin in a pretty cool way when Snow White was singing to the birds like “la la la” and all of the sudden her song becomes the Immigrant Song when they start storming the castle. It was pretty sweet.
p.s you guys are great, love honest trailers and the rest of you shows
Fun fact: They did film that scene in a real field. No, really, there are pictures. They put up green screens in the field for the sky and that's it. Most of it is real. I personally don't see anything wrong with it (I have more problems with the arena tbh and Black Panther's waterfall scenes). But I wish they had filmed on location in a field if that would've helped people.
Joe's right. "Karst is a topography formed from the dissolution of soluble rocks such as limestone, dolomite, and gypsum. It is characterized by underground drainage systems with sinkholes and caves."
Fandral, Volstagg, Lady Siff, And Hogun
The only cut weight I miss is the Hammer.
I love these commentaries.
Seriously, do a Masters of the Universe Honest Trailer. Dan's Gwildor impression was one of the highlights of this video.
Cate blanchet was absolutely stunning as hela and I forgot how good looking she is
Keep the commentaries coming!
Because everyone else is posting their crappy lists, I'll post mine too.
1. Iron Man
2. The Avengers
3. The Winter Soldier
4. Guardians of the Galaxy
5. Civil War
6. Spiderman Homecoming
7. Thor Ragnarok
8. Doctor Strange
9. Ant-Man
10. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

15. Thor
16. Incredible Hulk

18. Thor: The Dark World
The top 10 are easy. It's gets difficult afterwards because I still enjoyed all of the others.
Rewatching four years later and HT actually predicted there'd be an MCU team up called the Asgardians of the Galaxy. Nice.
