@@leighannwagor5037 Yes, that’s true. Our youth, especially boys don’t have to watch guard against Roman clerics. I live two blocks from St. Matthews Cathedral. Two of the last three cardinals were thrown out of the church, one for being directly involved, the other for being complicit. Yes, keep in mind THIS IS AN ANGLICAN CHURCH, not Roman.
Thank you for taking the time to put this video together. I've not visited the cathedral while in NYC, but after seeing this, it's a definite stop next time I'm in town. One suggestion - you may want to leave the text on the screen when you have longer selections of text displayed. I found I had to rewind and pause a few times to read it all.
Thank you for making this video. I sing in the Cathedral's Chorale and the high holidays are absolutely breathtaking. Seeing this video gives me delightful chills too. Your choice of music to accompany this video is tantalizing. I've been in LOVE with the Cathedral since the 1970s when I first saw it. IT GETS VERY VERY LITTLE PRESS OR ACKNOWLEDGEMENT. I guess because it is NOT a Roman Catholic church. St. Patrick's get ALL of the attention I guess because over 80% of the people in the 5 boroughs are Roman Catholic. Well St. John gets the back flow from St. Patrick's during Christmas where there is STANDING ROOM ONLY and you don't need tickets to get into St. John's on Christmas and Easter. BTW... St. Patrick's cathedral can fit neatly INSIDE of St. John leaving PLENTY OF ROOM TO SPARE!!!
This cathedral surprises very much to me. The mixture of gothic and romanesque arcs, the big spaces.. I live at a small city in Spain with a very pure gothic old cathedral. (years 1.222 to 1.290) And so, I can't avoid thinking that this cathedral is strange and complicated. But it is amazing too Sorry my poor english. :D
"The Power of Their Glory - America's Ruling Class: the Episcopalians" - a 1978 book explaining this particular aspect of American history. You can pick it up for less than $5 on thrifty book sites and Amazon. It's definitely worth the effort to purchase and is a very well written book. I've had my copy for over 30 years, and refer to it often...
Cathedrals are living things that never cease to grow and expand. It’s normal for cathedrals to take centuries to be built and even then are never finished!
Say what you want about religion, but you cant not be impressed by the shear beauty of some of these Cathedrals.
Now, keep in mind this is Anglican, not Roman.

These buildings are 1000s of years old, and they were not used as Cathedrals/Churches.

So big it takes 20 minutes to see the interior. It takes about 30 seconds to see the inside of my apartment.
Beautiful cathedral. Also the name is the Cathedral Church of St John the Divine not St John Cathedral.
Fantastic video
Petr Borový Thank you!👍👍👍

Finally.....Many thanks Lari.
I knew Virgil Fox. I heard him many times at this cathedral.
Mrs. Schirokauer made the origami cranes for the Christmas tree. Here's to my friend Dave.
Which music is this?
I visited in 2003 now it seems you need to pay to get in?
High Church Anglo-Catholism
With all the money NY Episcopalians have, why haven't they finished this structure?
Theyre cheap. And they pocket the moolah.
@@dalialule6324 Maybe it's not a question of money, but a question of finding people with the skill sets needed to do work like this.

Catholic or Anglican?
Come for Mariah Carey concert
Wake up !! Look at this closer
Let me guess - illuminati conspiracy theory? LOL
Oh Colene, give it a rest, will ya?
Ok I looked at it closer, damn it’s even more amazing!
David Harrison bro they literally depict the destruction of nyc and washington dc in the pillars. either ignorance or government bot
@@sarah3396 Or perhaps because the stone carvers are still working on it they carved them as a remembrance of the disaster.
I thought it was catholic not Episcopal
It’s catholic with a small “c” as in the church universal.
Jontron lives there
.. the terrible television-cooking-table-"Altar"...
Not a word about the famous Skinner organ or the State Trumpet. Shame on you.
Why don't they steam clean this edifice?
Can they send you the bill?
Tjeyre too cheap.
@@ernestbowen4054 calm down big papa Ernie. He was just asking a question.
The vulgar and profane know not what they look upon...
Its the devils church.
BVale Doesnt have the destruction of NYC represented on the pillars...
