    Hey mike. I’m a 27 year old landscaper from Ontario, Canada. Whenever I work with stone I think of your tips, they’ve helped me a lot. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge. What you know is priceless.

    I know jack about masonry, bricks and stone but I love that there are people like you Mike who's sharing all of this knowledge! Like Paul Sellers and his work here on youtube sharing his knowledge on woodworking and hand tools. Amazing stuff Mike, I mean, you have footage from the 80's of your self and others doing work like this, awesome!

      One question for you Mike. When you were in the Union did you have to lay a certain number of block a day? Union job in Pittsburgh and these guys are putting up a block building. We are installing the door frames. Head joints of all different thickness and just looks likes they have no pride in their work

    • @MikeHaduck
      @MikeHaduck  5 лет назад +1

      Hi John, they were always in a hurry, and wanted to get things done as fast as they could, but they all had that figured out when they did the estimate and contract, I think the average was at least 100 - 125 block of day and they wanted two guys On a 12 inch block, That’s what they were expecting then, I don’t know about now, thanks Mike

    Hi Mike the practical wisdom that you share has helped me
    1 build our front steps
    2 dispel many ridiculous pyrmid allen ideas
    3 provided entertainment
    I have done nothing for you and I have no busness asking favors but I have heard bible scholars argue about Scriptual info on Jesus as the corner stone versus the capstone. I think he is both. Alpha and omega style where He's a mason and He's busting out stones from the devil's quary where they were stuck and He's polishing each one up and laying them out into a big arched dome until its complete then He is the keystone, which I am wondering if that goes last. Also, just hoping you would share more practical info on stone arches and domes. Especially corner and keystones.
    Last, the stone of stumbling. I think about the many cool ruins that you have shown and all the rubble. It seems like unbelivers think He's not God because God is a fine builder and He would never build out of all of us riff raff, but believers think, He is God and will.
    May God bless you in all the things you do and I pray the video I don't deserve to ask for

    • @MikeHaduck
      @MikeHaduck  Год назад +1

      Actually I am retired in Florida now, maybe I will do a little more traveling, I don't expect to do many more arches but I have a years worth of videos I haven't put out yet, we will see, God Bless, Mike

    Hi Mike you should have gone to Bomaris castle in North Wales . Edward longshancks ran out of money and couldn't Finnish it so it's been a building site for 800 years . You find the first 10 ft of stone as rough as guts on castles they threw them up so they could take shelter . There's nothing worst than getting hit by an arrow from a longbow when you're trying to build a wall 😂😂😂😂 Dave from Wales

    Excellent vid Mike! What a strAnge feeling it must be to wander about in such a place... is it a money issue or what? Seems partially forgotten and partially remembered in nostalgia~ perhaps the commitment necessary to undertake such a task, must less, complete it has been lost on the “new school” generation or maybe the “old school” Just couldn’t hang on any longer. One interesting note that I found -was that the funeral of Nikola Tesla was held there. He died broke ($),
    Sitar or FX? The mix was a little low and I couldn’t tell! Take care.

    Mike - the very last thing you said - about there being some supposed advantage to lime mortar as it is weak.
    Have you ever seen evidence of that advantage being true? A failure caused by using portland? I have never seen it.

    • @MikeHaduck
      @MikeHaduck  5 лет назад

      Hi Dr, i’m still Ttying, to come up with a solid answer for that, the new cement is harder and drys faster ..... yet lime Seems to be more forgiving drys a lot slower and they don’t use expansion joints, They are still using hydrated lime in Europe And I rarely even hear about it here, So I don’t have a solid answer yet, but I’m getting close, thanks Mike
