I agree! Since we don't have the VTX1300R, Stateline or VTX1800R/S with the big fenders and classic styling anymore, we need something to fill that gap as a lot of people are just like you, they prefer this "look" over the Rebel's styling.

Bought a 2019 Honda Shadow Aero, was , as a Honda rider, and having restored a great many, I was massively disappointed that the Shadow only had a 750 engine available. The bike is great, but not meeting my needs, can’t afford the awesome Goldwing, the one without automatic trans crap. So off to a different manufacturer.
However that bike is a great beginners bike, or for little people, it’s very reliable and smooth.

After looking at several used Phantoms for a first motorcycle I settled for a used black 2019 Honda Shadow Aero with 313 miles on it. I'm glad I went that route. They look better in person than they do in pictures. Used Phantoms seem to be way overpriced compared to used Aeros. Never been on a motorcycle. 3 short rides later I'm already feeling comfortable and gaining confidence on the Aero. It's a plus in my book.

Potential? It's already what it needs to be. Perfect in every way. Simple, reliable, sounds, looks, feels perfect in my opinion. Many people mentioned 6th gear. If they added a 6th gear it would be useless for anything but cruising on a flat. You'd have to downshift for every little hill. Tachometer? I use the speedometer. One less gauge to worry about. Bigger engine? No, thanks. I love getting 53 MPG around town.

I inherited a 2012 Aero last year, and I love it. I can't see barely any changes in that '22 (non ABS) other than the price. Mine only has 2500 miles, so it's basically still new...lol. I do agree with many here that a 6th gear would be awesome. I can drive it 60-65 all day for the 25 miles to work on back roads, but it would be nice to jump on the 70mph highway without thinking I'm going to blow it up at 70-75mph.

The 2022 Shadow Aero (non-ABS) is my number one choice for my next bike. I really like that color combo on the '22. The brown used on '18-'20 was a really nice looking color too. They're using that same brown in '22 on the 1100. As for changes, I would say LED lighting, USB port, and 1100-like gauge screen where the current speedo is now. But, as is, seems like a great ultra low maintenance bike. I want the the '22 Aero.

    • @HondaProKevin
      @HondaProKevin  2 года назад +3

Oh yeah, the brown looked great on the Aero and just looked a lot better in person than it did in pictures so it always caught people off guard when they saw it for the first time. Loving those ideas on updates too, definitely something that's feasible and not out of reach for Honda to do on these and still keep it within the same price range. Best of luck on snatching up your new '22 Aero in this blue, you'll have a looker on your hands for sure!

    I love this bike.
I owned a 2009 Honda Shadow for about 2 years after I had a bad reaction to an Epidural and gave up the heavy bikes.
Mine was silver with blue, just the opposite if what you have here.
I admire the design, the ride was not bad for a mid range bike if you keep it neer 65 mph and the performance was good.
The 2022 model looks 'more ' old school with the black engine and rims. Sorry, don't ruin this one with white walls.
The only modification I made was an open air cleaner.

I have one. It's balanced and easy to handle, very reliable. The wheel length and low center of gravity, relative light weight, adequate torque and horsepower with easy overlapping power bands are great features. I've enjoyed it. It gets a fair share of compliments for style and looks. Never mind the paint colors: Honda should definitely upgrade the brakes and front suspension. Especially the brakes! Adding a 6th gear for highway would make sense, or keep it 5-speed but change the gear ratios for more range with less overlap. It should do modern highway speed (run 70 to 75 mph at cruising RPMs) without owner modifications. I feel like this bike is designed to run at 65 mph on the highway. It can do 75 all day if you want to, but stock it's going to vibrate and feel like RPMs are higher than they should be. But definitely upgrade the brakes first. Safe quick braking and stopping distance should be addressed. first. The stock seat is garbage. The first long ride was not enjoyable; it was torture. After changing the seat to a Mustang, I could ride all day. After a year, I put heavier Road King handlebars on mine and the handlebars vibration that used to make my hands numb on highway rides has completely disappeared. That $10 or whatever that Honda saved by using thinner steel in the handlebars wasn't a good choice. My opinion is Honda engineering has habitually neglected making any improvements on this bike. That's unfortunate because it's basically a good bike and it has the potential with a few updates to be a better and more competitive product in the Honda lineup.

Over allI think this is an excellent choice. Sure, a few tweaks here and there are in order. In the older 750 shadow models (with the chain drive), the rear turn signals were down lower so you had lots of room for larger saddlebags without using a turn signal relocation kit. This is a motorcycle that will serve is owners very well, low maintenence and reliability that is second to none.

The seat is horrible and it's not quite comfy for me at 6'3". I really hope the wife likes to ride. I have put 1,500 miles on it comuting to work. It is all stock with only a windsheild added. I've been averaging 58mpg. I with it had a 6th gear, a headlight that easily accepts a normal bulb and adjustable dapening F&R.

Only one complaint is taking off from a light I can keep up with the larger Harleys. Understand they are not gunning it , they excellerate much faster. How hard would it be to increase the HP by 5 or 6 more?

I also own and ride a 2015 honda shadow aero. I love it!!! however my complaints about it is the seat is uncomfortable while riding after about 2-3 hours for me ( as I am skinny and tall 6' 3" and I only weigh on average 200 pounds). I wish the bike had a fuel gauge and a tacometer as well or a couple more gauges but not overdoing it with the electronics on it. I agree with that the bike needs more acceleration from stop to go. Would it hurt to put a 6th gear for the transmission? The suspension feels a little stiff in my opinion and experience. Thats all I can think of right now. Overall I love the reliability of the honda's from getting me from point a to point b.

2013 shadow aero black. Love it. If I had anything to change it would be to make 1st gear a bit lower and add a 6th gear to get the revs lower on the highway. Also, for me, the handlebars are a bit too far forward. I swapped the risers for shadow spirt risers to pull the handlebars back about 2-3 inches and up about 2-3 inches.

If you're fine with losing some of the performance your Virago had, you can't beat the Shadow Aero. #1 thing to change: add a 6th gear. #2 thing to change: LED headlight. The headlight on the Shadow has always been sub-par. #3 thing to change: offer a touring edition with lockable, color-matched, hard-side saddlebags and a (preferably batwing) windscreen. Otherwise it's damn near perfect. Still, other than the fact that they've added ABS and fuel injection, I'm hard-pressed to see why anyone would buy a brand new Shadow for $8K when you can find immaculate older ones all day long for $3K.

I'd like to see a CVT transmission option with slow crawling forward and reverse for easy parking and moving on slopes. With auto transmission shift the brake levers to the handlebars, left hand dual front and rear and tight hand rear only. ABS is now mandatory in Australia and I would want disc brakes front and back, with a parking brake lock. I own 9 Hondas and they are all a pain in the butt after 30 minutes of riding. Best suspension for safe COMFORTABLE cruising and excellent seat design with options is essential. Wind deflecting screens are another essential option. Honda speedometers are unreadable when wearing sun glasses, especially polaroids. Honda owners manuals should be available in all national languages to read for free on the internet. Information about which levers operate which wheels and which wheels have ABS antilock braking and at what speeds the ABS stop working is hard to find, especially as an English speaker in Thailand.

You cant elevate them the only option is declination. Sure left to right adjustment is important , however up and down is equally important.
It should be illegal to sale a bike with such poor headlight functionality.
