I owned a Honda shadow 1100, I loved that bike. Honda's are bullet proof. It's not what you ride it's how much time you spend on it.
My ex and toured Florida on a 2000 750 Shadow ACE Deluxe without any issues. It has plenty of power and was comfortable the entire trip. I have rode it to Florida (twice), St. Louis, North Carolina, and Chicago. You can put serious miles on a 750 without any issues. I recently put velocity stacks and tuned the carb and she will pull the tire up without an issue. These bikes are amazing.
Same! Been riding for exactly 31 years. Started at age 4. I also have a 2019 Shadow. I’m an extremely skilled rider. Rode a 1000rr around the perimeter of the entire country. Nobody but me has ever done that, on that bike. Never told anybody. I don’t need anything more than the phantom and I’ve done everything that can be done on a motorcycle.
The "cc" wars is what has kept most motorcycle companies in business. If cars were marketed the same way you'd be told that you need a lifted, F150 if you plan on doing anything else than driving around the block. 500-900cc bikes can go all day around town and on the highways. Yes, if the only riding you do is multiple cross country trips then you might want a bigger bike to pack more stuff, otherwise, this 750 will get you where you need to be just fine. It's an ego thing more than anything else.
@@eshan2640 Nope. Same with sport bikes. I've seen good riders destroy liter bikes on track days riding 650s. But in regards to street riding, the speed limit is the speed limit whether you're on a Rebel or a Rocket 3. Is it easier to get up to those speeds on higher cc bikes, sure? But are you legally able to access the full power band of that high cc monster you bought? Nope.
@@rubberlover666 I see. Where I live, we don't think we even have proper roads to go that fast. If you buy a litre bike well, its like having a caged eagle.
My first bike, the shadow phantom. It's a great bike! With all the mods on mine it's certainly a sinister looking machine and quite the head turner. Unfortunately now it doesn't get much attention due to my newly acquired roadstar.
I am getting this exact phantom tomorrow for my first bike ever it's the exact same the dark Grey I'm super excited the paperwork is done all I have to do is go pick it up wish my luck you guys
I've always been a fan of the Phantom. My 2001 ACE Deluxe has done me just fine. Great bike, reliable, all you need. And Dude, you are nuts to be riding over that ice.
I absolutely love my 2015 Shadow Phantom. It was already set up with a front Fairing, V&H pipes, saddle bags, and sissy bar with rack. I get compliments all day long. My BF complains that it's louder than his HD Road King, lol. I wish they still made it with the 1100cc.
Nice! When covering long journeys a rear tire that lasts is great. I have found out that a 165/80-R15 car tire lasts much longer than a motorcycle tire and it also gives smoother ride!
@@BuckFiddy5 just started my third season with the same tire and it looks like I might get a fourth one also. The front tires that are mc tires last two seasons or less in my use
I love my Phantom. It has so much punch ....70-75 in a minute. I had regular 2 Shadows previously. I got my Phantom 2015 for cheap in 2017 because it was sitting on the floor of the dealership. I am a small woman so the lightness and seat height is perfect...I am secure. Love the black out but it has rusted terribly ....you can't coat anything. Phantom has a wonderful low center of gravity. Rain is no problem. I don't have a car... motorcycles have been my main transportation for 17 years now.
I took a stock 2012 shadow phantom on a 1200 mile trip around the UP of Michigan. I really enjoyed the ride, but I can point out a few mods I would suggest for a long trip. 1: Highway bars. Although the bike isn't too small, my hips and knees did get a bit uncomfortable after a long time without a break. Being able to stretch out a bit would have helped. 2: Cruise control. Although not specific to the Shadow, my hand kept going numb from holding the throttle. 3: A windshield. When you're hitting speeds of 80mph and the temps are cool, a wind break would really help make the ride more comfortable. After I get these 3 mods, I'll definitely be taking my Shadow out for another long ride.
I got the memphis shades batwing fairing on my shadow spirit, highly recommend. Here's a pic if you want to see what it looks like: i.imgur.com/Iyq7I5E.jpg would look sick on a phantom.
I watch this channel a lot before buying my first bike which was a 2004 shadow aero 750. I’ve put 25,000 miles on it in the first two years driving Los Angeles freeways every day and the power has always been there and I never feel like I need more power very often. I’ve gotten it up to 100 and I can’t really feel an instance where I need to go faster. Usually I just hit the carpool lane to an 85 to 90 on the way to and from work.
Does it handle the socal mountains well? Have you taken it on rides up the Sierra? I'm honestly nervous to get it if it's gonna be a slugfest just getting up the hill from work lol
@@carlhutto811 Hey thanks for the reply. I'm still riding and still alive. I sold the 750, made a little profit, bought a VTX1300, but the power upgrade wasn't what I thought. I actually liked the 750 better, slod the VTX1300 after a year, for a little profit, then got a bad ass VTX1800N1, but yeah, I took the 750 through all the local mountains and canyons from the Angeles Crest to the 23 south of the 101, but never the Sierras. The only issue you may have is the carbs, without the fuel injection/02 sensor, it may run off from the air to fuel ratio being off with the thin air.
In my 50's and I second that comfort and reliably. You don't get a second Quarter so don't want to spend my time in the garage. I need to be out on the road enjoying the ride in comfort. Oh, and looking good while I'm doing it.
A friend had an old 00's Shadow 750 and it run well for him (5"6 140lb) even with the 200lb gorilla (me) in the back when testing. He did mod the air intake afterwards to really open up the throttling, specially for cruising in hot (~100°F) summer days for longer stretches.
I hear all this talk about 750's not being big enough and it makes me crazy. I had a Moto Guzzi 750 Ambassador late 60's early 70's model when I was in my mid 20's with faring/windshield, saddle bags, and a top box that I would load for road trips. I, my girl friend and all the tools and clothing for a trip. It seems mine had a four speed transmission (specs say 5 speed) I and my girl friend rode the Black Hills of South Dakota, rode to North Carolina and back to South Dakota and never ran out of power. Between me, my girl, travel necessities, and the bike the weight was probably around 1,000 lbs. Of course I did know how to use the transmission to it's full capacity. I do remember hitting the double digits when alone a couple of times. Now you know why it makes me crazy to hear people say a 750 isn't big enough. Thanks Srkcycles for the videos.
I'm an advanced rider that's only 5'4'', and this is my dream bike. I'm riding around on a 2002 Honda Shadow ACE 750 right now, but definitely want a Shadow Phantom.
I did buy mine in 2015 the bike is a 2010 it only had 457 miles. I love this bike. Not the fastest but definitely fun bike to ride. I'm 5'9" and I fit perfect on it.
They're amazing bikes. As for having a bike that goes "fast". I'll never want to drive 120 MPH on a motorcycle or even in a car. So something that cruises at 85 on the freeway for as long as I want it to cruise is MORE than enough for me. I'm glad you love the bike. I can't wait to get mine.
I've got a 2011 phantom with vance and hines shortshots, and cobra intake with mustang seats and memphis shades batwing fairing. I'm 5 foot 9 (150lbs) and taken the bike across the US. I've bought and sold several other bikes while owning my phantom but can't bring myself to part with this beast because it's so nimble and powerful for its size. By far, my favorite bike of all time; and all the work you could want to do to it can easily be done without needing a mechanic. My only complaint AT ALL is the handlebars having the welded riser style, making altering handlebar placement impossible without replacing them.
My first motorcycle was an 05 Honda Shadow Aero 750. I'm 6 feet tall and 230 pounds. And it performed okay. Two things it would not do that I didn't like was its difficult to pass a vehicle on two lane country roads. The other is its sluggish when carrying a passenger. My family member rode as my passenger and she was only 100 pounds. My opinion is its a great starter bike for a responsible person. It may be a forever bike for the right person.
62 HP is more than what the 750 Shadow is capable of. I've ran mine on 5th gear and it doesn't seem to have enough power to run a 6th gear. Maybe if the engine had more power, adding a 6th gear would make sense.
joemann sounds like you need an older model. They used to have 6 speeds in the early days. Is yours from the ‘90’s? U should have closer to 70hp if it’s running correctly!
@@mcycleshawn Yeah, probably, but since i'm a new rider, I wanted to start with a bike that I new was going to have zero issues. I also got the bike at a great deal, since my wife works for the dealership I got it from. It's still a fun bike, even though on paper, it has 44 HP. It doesn't feel like 44 HP, since it has zero issues getting my 300 lb butt up to 60 MPH. Horsepower, from my understand, effects a bike more at high speeds than low speeds. It will get up to 60 MPH no problem, but it struggles a bit getting above 80 MPH. I think that's where the higher horsepower would make the difference, but since I don't really plan to ride it fast, I'm not too worried. It feels fast enough to where I could be confidentially on the road with it.
I dont know if they will see this but I just found them last night while looking for possibilities and reviews for my first bike and noticed the bikes they sell are cheap and gorgeous and I will for sure contact them when I go to get my first bike. I have the Shadow Phantom 750. Im 53. Not looking for speed, just reliability and I absolutely LOVE my bike. But in the interest of full disclosure, I am currently looking for a bigger engine because I'd like to tow a small camping trailer and all reviews say you need a minimum of 1000cc.

I have the 2010 black model. It's my first bike and yeah I outgrew it years ago but just haven't pulled the trigger on a new one (sorry, it definately won't be a Harley). But I bought it for all the reasons you stated. I'm actually pretty nervous to take another bike out for a test in case I wreck it. Keep the educational program coming!
@@AD.H. I still have it. I passed it over to my wife as her first bike. If I could get a new phantom with a bigger engine I would jump on that in a second.
I actually really want one of these. I am a car guy so I know that Honda is super reliable in that aspect so I assume their motorcycles are reliable as well.
I just bought the same bike from a different place. 2015 with zero miles. It was never prepped or demoed. Love the bike my only issue is the seat. As a 300lb guy after 50-60 miles my butt gets sore. Definitely get an aftermarket seat
I been riding 14 years and I just got a 2019 phantom to commute on cause it gets 50+ mpg it's liquid cooled and where I live it can get well over 100+F for weeks. I really liked the Yamaha Bolt but the air cooled turned me away.

My first bike was a Shadow 750. Great beginner bike and loved the ride. It was very smooth and enjoyable. The only things I didn't like we're that it was carbureted and way too quiet. I never quite felt comfortable enough to take it on the highway.
I have a 750 honda Spirit (the earlier model from 07'), great bike, rarely I need something "stronger", and yet it's quite customizable, so in the end you could get that up to around 52-55 horse power. From time to time I think that maybe I could switch to a 1300 VTX, but in the end I always think "what for?" :)
Don't do it guys. I had a 07 shadow spirit 750 and went to a vtx 1300 and I was honestly disappointed. If you like running around town it's way more fun on the lighter and nimbler 750. Didn't feel any difference on the highways between the two. I wish I still had that bike.
@@imashadowrider80 Well, honestly for me after 2 years, I think that since I am still not using 100% of the 750 engine, I don't see any sense in switching to 1300 :)
Ive had this bike for a few years now. Great around the city, fun in the twisties, and plenty of speed on the highway. Keeps up with my brothers Harley just fine in most situations and I'm constantly getting compliments on the looks. People are usually surprised its a Honda, unless they're Phantom owners themselves
I have an XV535(broken) that also has a rear drum and shaft drive and was still good with braking. Like you said about the Ninja 650 being very adequate, so is the Shadow 750. I have no qualms about owning one since the 535 was so similar.
The Shadows are awesome bikes- there is a mod to advance the timing and you can replace the carb jets that were chosen by Honda for emissions... it'll wake it up a bit. I swapped a sprocket and got the RPM down a little on the highway.
The shadow 1100s were shaft drive hydraulic valve.. as were Kawasaki 1500s I believe.. not sure about other bikes.. I keep looking for a shadow 1100 spirit.. those were as well.. hope this helps.
I want a bike that gets to a decent speed fast, has the power when I need it but I'm not overly bothered by the top end speed over much. I like the way the new Electric bikes have immediate speed from the first twist and how they are then easy to cruise on with no gears just twist and go. Also how they last longer if you keep the speed down.
Question for everyone here! I’m 5’7” 180 and looking at a 2014 shadow phantom. I’m gonna be taking it on longer cruise’s this summer. A few hour ride here and there. Do you think it’ll be fine on the highway for me? Does the hp matter enough to notice? Anything I need to know on making my decision. I owned a 2005 kawasaki vulcan 500ltd and that was a little sketchy on the highway, will the Honda shadow phantom be a lot better for highway cruising??
Just got an 03 Shadow 1100. Guy sold it because of a family issue supposedly, turns out it needs a stator. 112 bucks to my door and will be in the bike in a week. No thing but a chicken wing. It sat for a long time and I got a killer deal on it.

I have rode it to Florida (twice), St. Louis, North Carolina, and Chicago. You can put serious miles on a 750 without any issues. I recently put velocity stacks and tuned the carb and she will pull the tire up without an issue. These bikes are amazing.
I still ride a 2001 Shadow SABRE 1100 (vt1100c2) and I absolutely love it. Best bike I've ever owned.
I never understood the hate for a smaller displacement bike. I've been riding for over 30 years and I absolutely love my 2019 Phantom.
Well done Sean. Slow and cautious in that kind of weather. It's a great pity more bikers don't heed your advice in adverse conditions. I salute you.
Just to clarify...are you only referring to these kinds of bikes? Cruisers
Funny enough the F-150 is the most sold vehicle in the u.s. not truck. Vehicle
Just got my first ever cruiser. A new 2020 Honda shadow phantom 750. Man I love this thing. Coming off of a hawk 250, this bike is a dream lol
Im buying my first motorcycle and the shadow phantom is my number choice. The moment you started your ride with a prayer, i subscribed
This is actually the bike ima get in a few years as my first bike
Jimmy I like it my main man
I've always been a fan of the Phantom. My 2001 ACE Deluxe has done me just fine. Great bike, reliable, all you need. And Dude, you are nuts to be riding over that ice.
Thanks for doing this 2 up video... I'm eyeing a Honda Phantom right now and I havent seen anyone else show 2 up on a shadow. Thank You!
Love my 750 aero. Crossed the country a few times in it
Nice! When covering long journeys a rear tire that lasts is great. I have found out that a 165/80-R15 car tire lasts much longer than a motorcycle tire and it also gives smoother ride!
@@manuhonkanen2111 Interesting. I am hardpressed to get two seasons out of a rear tire.
@@BuckFiddy5 just started my third season with the same tire and it looks like I might get a fourth one also. The front tires that are mc tires last two seasons or less in my use
@@manuhonkanen2111 Great info. Thanks!
I just purchased my 2022 Honda shadow phantom and I love it !!
Vinny G Badass bro!
As a giant 400 pound man I really appreciate the testing that I can relate to.
350 pound beginner here. The struggle is real. 😂
Love my 05 750 Spirit. I’m 2nd owner got it dirt cheep, runs great fun to ride, no reason to change it out.
I've purchased two Honda shadows brand new out of the crate twice in my life. I'm thinking about doing it again.
My bride and I currently have a 2016 Shadow, love it. Light weight, enough umph, lots of after market parts. Great cheap ride.
Bride? Cringe.
Thanks James Franco for this awesome review 👏
As a Floridian, those ice patches gave me anxiety haha!
Florida man can have anxiety, didnt know they felt that
I just recently bought myself a Honda shadow spirit, my first bike! So far I love it
I've got a 2011 phantom with vance and hines shortshots, and cobra intake with mustang seats and memphis shades batwing fairing.
My 1984 Shadow 700 is rocking 62HP with a 6sp transmission. I wish all bikes still had that extra gear!
I love this channel already and my fiance loves how in depth you guys get with the reviews so she knows what I'm getting myself into.
Thanks for giving the real perspective of riding a motorcycle. As you say ‘ it’s not what you’re riding...’. Thanks for the video. Regards, Bob M. South Wales
I've had a 2010 Phantom for coming up on 6 months now. As my first bike it's an awesome bike to learn on.
I'm picking up a 2011 Honda shadow phantom. It's also my first bike. How tall are you? And is it pretty comfortable?
I had a '99 Shadow ACE 750. 22K miles, never cleaned the chain and never changed the oil (young and dumb), and she never once let me down. Honda bikes are the most reliable you can get adn are so fun to ride!
I got a 750 2011 Honda Shadow phantom 750 CC's up here beauty I love it everybody loves the way it looks it's the best riding bike I've ever had in my life I'm 6'1 235 lb and I love it
Front fender removed, solo saddle, drag pipes and apes, and you got yourself a nice bobber. A real nice bobber.
Been waiting for you to review this bike. Thanks Srk!
I'm riding a Suzuki intruder 700c 86's is old model but i have it like a new, Zero problems, really Powerfull, reability, relax and fun one of the Best options, Zero plastic only metal and aluminium.
Do you recommend this one for a beginner?
@@AD.H. definately, buy a small "beginner" bike and you'll be bored of it and lose money in three months.
@@dingo5208 How long did you keep your Shadow?
@@AD.H. I still have it. I passed it over to my wife as her first bike. If I could get a new phantom with a bigger engine I would jump on that in a second.
I am over here contemplating bike number 2, and this little gem of a vid pops up. Yessir!!
You're doing the Lord's work, friend.
I have a 02 shadow spirit with 84,000 miles . No problems. It's been rejetted and runs great....
Watching that episode I was also praying for you to get home safely
One of the best looking cruisers ever.
I’ve been waiting for this video watching all of your other Honda shadow videos
I just picked up the 2020 model. Very pleased with it and a very comfortable ride
How much was it, if you don't mind telling?
I actually really want one of these. I am a car guy so I know that Honda is super reliable in that aspect so I assume their motorcycles are reliable as well.
Imo Honda motorcycles are more reliable than their cars
I researched most reliable motorcycle engines and Honda is always number one. Then, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki. It’s a fun research.
I just bought the same bike from a different place. 2015 with zero miles. It was never prepped or demoed. Love the bike my only issue is the seat. As a 300lb guy after 50-60 miles my butt gets sore. Definitely get an aftermarket seat
Josh Smith hey random RUclips user, how is it going for you imma 300+ guy too, would you recommend it for commuting like 20 miles 4 days a week?
@@SandovalHely definitely.
I been riding 14 years and I just got a 2019 phantom to commute on cause it gets 50+ mpg it's liquid cooled and where I live it can get well over 100+F for weeks. I really liked the Yamaha Bolt but the air cooled turned me away.
My only gripe with the shadow is the lack of a rear disc brake. Other than that, it's a great bike for anyone new and experienced.
2024 version has it
had a few 1100 honda shadows reliable rides that rides nice the drum brakes though come on honda your still stuck back in time im proud of ya riding in the snow but stay safe love the video
I'm a road King man but I would ride that all day it's a really nice looking bike
“What bike do we have that is not selling?”
......“The shadow”
“Cue the intro...Is this the best shadow ever?”
John L he has no issues selling bikes lol. No matter the brand or model
I'll sell this bike even if I have to risk my life on ice & snow....
Times must be lean .....
@@DARisse-ji1yw What?
The Shadows have no problem selling. Great dependable bikes. Also much more stylish and much cheaper than the similar year harleys.
They might sell even better if Honda had put a 6th gear in them, or at least a taller 5th. Way too many revs at interstate speeds in my opinion.
Back in the day a 750 was a big bike. My KZ750 carried two of us easily
Was that the twin? Or the four?
Ugh! KZ750...my first true love!
Elijah, the KZ750 was a rev loving comfortable twin.
I have a 08 shadow aero which I love. But when u saw the phantom for the first time I feel in love with it. Looking forward to getting one.
Just bought my first bike, a Honda shadow classic 750, it’s dope
I put my cruise control on 50 or so and ride us1 no hands. there are 3 curves in my 5 mile ride i have to grab bars for a moment. So, yeah. i love my 2012 Phantom. it's also great for popping through traffic. You can jump up quick and stop quick. Very light.
I have the same bike. It my first bike it a good bike for new riders and has some power and smooth take off. It my forever bike.
My first bike was a Shadow 750. Great beginner bike and loved the ride. It was very smooth and enjoyable. The only things I didn't like we're that it was carbureted and way too quiet. I never quite felt comfortable enough to take it on the highway.
I take my 650 maxim on the highway all day long🤣🤣 shell handle it for sure
How fast will it go?
I have a 750 honda Spirit (the earlier model from 07'), great bike, rarely I need something "stronger", and yet it's quite customizable, so in the end you could get that up to around 52-55 horse power.
From time to time I think that maybe I could switch to a 1300 VTX, but in the end I always think "what for?" :)
That's what I'm looking to upgrade to, I just got my license and got a Honda shadow 750. But I think I want a vtx
Once upon a time a 750 cc bike was big. When the Yamaha 650 came out it was a pretty big deal.
Love the prayers and verses man 🙏
Same!
It's SOHC, does that mean you have to take it in for a valve adjustment? What shaft drive bikes have hydraulic valves? Thanks!
The shadow 1100s were shaft drive hydraulic valve.. as were Kawasaki 1500s I believe.. not sure about other bikes.. I keep looking for a shadow 1100 spirit.. those were as well.. hope this helps.
I love my 2018 Phantom!
I recently purchased an 05 honda shadow spirit with 3000 miles for $2000 and I really like it
I want a bike that gets to a decent speed fast, has the power when I need it but I'm not overly bothered by the top end speed over much.
This is my first bike. I love it
Dude I’m finna finance a 2022 phantom and I’m so stoked.
Just picked up a 2014, fun little bike. With reliability and low maintenance cost I believe my Harley is gonna sit a bit.
Just got an 03 Shadow 1100. Guy sold it because of a family issue supposedly, turns out it needs a stator. 112 bucks to my door and will be in the bike in a week. No thing but a chicken wing. It sat for a long time and I got a killer deal on it.
