That's a nice looking bike. The one change I think HD has made a mistake with is not having the larger touring models with a shaft drive. Shaft drive very reliable and no worries about belt or chain stretch or breakage.
Sir, you are a saint for getting out in this cold weather! Thank you for this video.. especially for the reading of the good word. I really appreciate it!
I have a 1996 I bought from under a tree in a yard. It sat for 3 years there. Rebuilt the carbs and new fluids and rubber, I've been driving it flawlessly for 3 years now. I love it totally. Oh, I paid 500 for it and put in probably another 600 and it's worth every dime. I love my American Classic Shadow 1100
I have a 99 Honda Shadow 1100 ACE Touring. I'm the second owner and I absolutely love my "Heifer". Only ever put tires on her. Have 8" inch bars and new grips bring delivered this coming week.
I had a 2003 750 ace. It was very dependable. As soon as you started it up, the sound brought me back to mine. I ended changing to a sport tour style bike. But, I'd have kept them both if my wife would've let me. After 3 years of ownership I traded it for only 100 dollars less than I paid for it.
I used to work for a full line Honda dealer as a mechanic. I bought one brand new and set it in 97 as a non current still the crate. My ACE just had black wall tires and was the magenta and frost white color scheme. I pull the factory pipes off it shortly after buying it and put Cobra Bouelvard classic fishtail on it and Dynojet kit and a K N filter on it. I was just remiencing as I found some pics of it which brought me here. Cheers from Saskatchewan, Canada
Rode one for years. Shaft drive low maintenance, but the whitewall Dunlop tires were impossible to keep clean like in the video. The single pin crank shook so much on the kickstand that it ensured you replaced the battery every 12-16 months. Sweet spot on the highway was 70mph, but would do 120 with plenty to spare. I put on a nice tuned set of Bubs pipes and rejetted the carb. I paid $6k brand new back in 1990s.
I have owned a 1999 ACE Tourer 1100 for 6 years. I originally wanted a Harley but now would not trade this bike for a Harley or sell it for any Dollar amount. It is a beautiful Scoot and very reliable. When people ask "Is that a Harley?" I say " No its a Honda that's why it still runs" LOL :)
I grew up in southeastern PA and those are my favorite roads. Love watching SRK videos. And yeah, it's cold there in January. You gotta go fast to keep warm.
Back in 1996, I bought a bike like this brand new for $9999.00. It had a black paint job. The two-tone paint bikes were an additional $500.00. I drove this bike until 2001 and sold it. This is only the second brand new bike I ever bought. I really loved this bike. Whoever bought this bike for $2500.00, got a heck of a deal. These bikes will run forever.
This brings back so many memories. I had a Honda Shadow Spirit 750. I rode that thing everywhere. Seriously, I drove that thing to the moon and back. I almost put 100K miles on the bike. That was until I wrecked it. When I was stationed at Ft Hood I would ride it to Austin and back every weekend. Sometimes I would ride it to Dallas and back. One time I rode it to Big Bend National Park from Ft Hood. I loved that thing.
Honda really got the attention of Harley, with the ACE, and the Aero 1100. I wanted an Aero 1100, ever since they came out with them in 98. Finally got one a couple years ago, turquoise blue, and black. It was a 99, and had the single pin crank. The long two into one fishtail exhaust was slightly modified for a louder tone, and man it sounded righteous. Beautiful, reliable bike. The only place I think Honda dropped the ball on it, was giving it only 5 speeds. It's my understanding, that Harely actually sued Honda over the Aero, and the single pin crank desigin. Thanks for the great review.
I have a Spirit, but because it was my dad's and when he passed I had to keep it- I've always wanted the ACE version. Slowly, I'll be making changes to it to suit my taste- like passing lamps and more chrome. The two-tone ACE is gorgeous, and I have no desire at all to own a Harley.
I own hondas and a Harley and can easily say Honda is my bike of choice. My VTX 1300R is simply the best . Right 1300 cc engine, right suspension, right weight and blows the doors off my Harley Road king. The Road king is a nice bike. The VLX 600, VTX 1300R and Goldwing are FANTASTIC BIKES. Yes I know, my wife doesn't think anyone should own 4 bikes either.
I have the spirit 750 . I ride the he'll out of it. Went from NH to Western North Carolina in about 20 hours on it last spring . What a runner . I'll never sell it.
I learned to ride on a 02 shadow ace 750. It was perfect bike to learn and get comfortable on. I rode it for three years and traded up to a heritage 114👍love this one even more
back in the day I had a cb 750 custom from Japan. i am now to old to ride a bike, My fave all time bike was my klr 600. Love watching these videos. Keeping me sane through this virus! Keep em coming, I have watched for a few years and never commented. I am in the uk. thanks mate god bless and ride safe. regards Mick
@@mixiepalms8338 ... Long workday. I bought a 2003 Shadow Spirit 1100 a couple months ago. Freshening it up a bit. Should be a good ride. I'm a year and 3 months away from thinking about retiring at 70. The only bike I have that I have opted out of riding is an '86 XL600R that is kick-start only. Knee's just a little too beat up to stab that jumbo piston.
Hey Sean. Because of your videos gave me alot of insight of mortorcycles. I'm 6 foot 2 and I own a yamaha vstar 650 midnight custom. Entry level. I enjoy it. Keep up awesome work of the videos.
I love these 1100 shadows, to me they are the ultimate import cruiser. The looks and performance are unparalleled. The fact that its water cooled is just a huge bonus in my opinion. Great bike I would have loved to get it for that price...God bless
Had 1996 ACE 1100 for several years, great bike with some glaring flaws built in. The ACE was a 5 speed, single crank pin engine. Those are the pluses! The negatives were that the early models rider footpeg location was sort of mid ish control combined with the wide tank made seating position like a vertical OBGYN exam. The bikes that came without footboards still included the heel/toe shifter which was useless and the rear section catches your leg as the try to get your foot onto the peg. Most aftermarket stuff for the early bikes has long been discontinued.
I own a 1988 Honda Shadow 800cc which you didn’t mention they made. Which surprised me. That 1100 is beautiful and awesome. Thank you for sharing and God Bless you. Stay safe.
There is also a Shadow 125cc for reference and they have done both single cylinder and V-twin versions under the shadow name. That Ace is very pretty, its really sad nobody makes a SMALL Indian inspired bike something in the 500 to 700cc range, a scout for the modern age.
I love your chanels man, and I love that you share bible verses. I am looking into getting into motorcycles and getting my first one and you have been incredibly informative and helpful. I actually was interested in the ace and saw it on your website and I'm kicking myself for not driving up from Alabama to get it. I'll tell you this, my first bike will be purchased from you guys. Be blessed guys!
Just picked up a 98’ Shadow ACE 750 with that same red/white paint scheme yesterday. Previous owner took very good care of it. Only 18k miles on it! It’s a beauty, and paid $2200. I would like to replace the pegs with some floorboards and it’ll make a sweet commute bike
I have one of these. Im actually currently building it into a bobber. Bulletproof engine, but a weak aftermarket offering. Docile engine, very easy to learn on. Looking forward to the new Rebel 1100.
These bikes like the shadow and others are what I call “Hardlys” the Japanese designers were cobbling together as many design cues as possible from Harley Davidson. Honda even got sued by Harley for making their Honda motorcycles sound like a Harley on purpose. The a Hardly bikes were made to last and they did have a wonderful look. Great learning bike.
Hehe I was wondering if someone would mention that this was the lawsuit bike. The single crank pin models (1995 - 1999) resembled the sound of the Harley that they sued Honda. I have a 1999 and I LOVE it.
@@ktforbes1536 rock solid bikes. Japanese engineering is incredible. I just wish they would take some cues from Harley that do not include visual styles. The Fury was a fantastic bike for customizing,,, but you couldn’t. The decision to make the fury a driveshaft bike crippled the after market wheel industries ability to produce custom rims. Harley will produce almost the identical bike for a few years before it restyles the bikes in any major way, this slows the aftermarket industry to make it possible to individualize their bikes. Honda or any of the Japanese bike makers don’t get this. There are some exceptions, look at the aftermarket for the Yamaha SX 650, that engine wasn’t changed much for almost 15 years and even then not much. If a Japanese manufacturing facility put out a solid engine, and promised to produce that same bike for 7 to 10 years, then un-license the aftermarket the aftermarket would go crazy.
They say the ace has a single pin crank and sounds like a Harley but I have really good hearing. You could blindfold me and I could tell you the sound of Harley or not. And the ace does not sound like a Harley not in this video or or any other video, and not when I've ridden them.
Had a 2000 750. It's what I returned to street riding on after about a decade hiatus. Loved it, got rear-ended at it was totaled. I still think about that bike.
I have a 02 shadow spirit 750 that I bought brand new. Looks like a harley lowrider. It has Vance and Hines exhaust and I replaced the rear sprocket with a new one that had 1 less tooth. The bike always felt like it needed another gear before the replacement. That made all the difference. Love that bike.
👍🏻 just got this recommended…few years back I picked up a ‘96 1100 ace for all of $2600. Exact same paint scheme too! After several years of use & 10+k miles; I’ve decided to NEVER trade/sell it! Does everything (& more) that an overpriced Harley can (love liquid cooling & shaft drive…won’t overheat in stop n go traffic in those 100 degree days). Can you tell I love my bike?
Been on Shadows for the past couple years. Currently on a 99 Aero 1100, love the bike. Has great power, comfortable, quick. I would trust that bike to take me almost anywhere. With how it’s set up I can just tell it loves long distance high speed. That shaft drive makes for smooth power transfer. The only thing I miss about my 750 Spirit is the flickability and acceleration. That bike took off when you got after the throttle and with the set up it made getting on the side of tire easy. I don’t however miss the suspension, the set up was so stiff I would get ejected at any bump I hit wrong.
For me, the best Honda motorcycle ever built would be a 1978-182 Honda CBX 1000 That’s the best bike Honda made and they have NEVER made a better or same sounding machine since this bike. Guaranteed to make you smile every ride! Super FUN! Where as this cruiser, despite its History, is just another Shadow. Message/Tag me when you get a CBX 1000 and I will drive all the way from Texas to buy it from you. -Jason
This was my first bike - 1995 ACE 1100 -first year of that model with the single pin that gave it that sound. Two tone red and white with Dunlop white walls like this one. Thought I'd have to dodge a bunch of bullets from people all over Milwaukee for "not gettin' a Harley!" - but people actually loved that bike - just kept getting compliments on it everywhere I went. Miss the hell out of that bike now -rode it for seven years all up and down Wisconsin and never left me stranded in 40K+ miles of riding. I can still remember starting it up the first time I brought it home -and couldn't believe they got away with it sounding that much like a Harley, even with the stock exhaust. I later looked it up on my laptop and -oh yeah, they didn't:-) This was the infamous Bike Harley sued Honda over and later Kawasaki I believe. I later put the slash-cut Jardine's they made for this motor which amplified the Harley sound even more and then added cobra boards like the example in the video. Was a great bike to learn on -got excellent mileage and very nimble handling, plus a great road trip machine. Honda knocked it out of the park with this bike for sure
I own the 2 tone red and white 95 ace 1100.. It's My 1st bike too! I'm the 2nd owner and it has about 6500 miles. I'm new to riding solo and love this bike!!
@@mssandrajean One of the first things I added to mine were the cobra floor boards that bolt right to the frame. They don't come cheap but worth every penny -you should be able to to find those on e-bay for around $250. They made a world of difference in my riding as a newby and were extremely comfortable on road trips and tooling around alike. Added Kuryakyn-iso hand grips that same year too and loved those also. Have a blast on your new ride:-)
I just picked up a 1999 Cream and Green Ace. She was treated poorly 😢 and in a wreck. I paid $2500 as well. Carbs will need a good cleaning, brake and turn signals don't work and needs a new rear tire. But she can be rehabilitated to good shape, it runs fantastic and glides down the road. I can't wait to keep fixing her up between rides.
I had a 750 Spirit. It worked well cuz, well, it was a Honda. Sadly, I sold it cuz it didn't have enough power or legroom for me (6'-230). I still ,miss it.

Had a 2002 Honda shadow ace 750…the grey/plum colored one. Absolutely awesome bike and could ride it all day long with the Corbin seat on it (one of the OLD Corbin seats!). Only thing I wish it had was a 6th gear because it felt like it was running out of steam by 70mph. Other than that, absolute great bike that always got compliments

I've only ever saw one of these bikes at a Honda dealer here in Scotland, really like the look of them.
I bet riding around the highlands is a world class journey.
That's a nice looking bike. The one change I think HD has made a mistake with is not having the larger touring models with a shaft drive. Shaft drive very reliable and no worries about belt or chain stretch or breakage.
I bought one of those last week and love it. You have a great channel... thanks for all of the videos. 👍
I learned to ride on a 750 ACE. Wonderful bike.
I love my American Classic Shadow 1100
man I really appreciate you goin out in the freezing cold to make these quality videos for us. Thanks
I had the 750 ace in the same color. Loved that little bike. Sold it to my brother in law and he is still loving it.
That bike is just gorgeous in its simplicity and elegant in function.
I have a 99 Honda Shadow 1100 ACE Touring. I'm the second owner and I absolutely love my "Heifer". Only ever put tires on her. Have 8" inch bars and new grips bring delivered this coming week.
I just got me a 1998 Honda Shadow Ace and love it. Its 24 years old and it's a piece of history now.
I currently drive a 2001 Honda shadow Ace as my first bike and I get so many compliments on it! I love it!
I sure hope the Shadow 750 will be my first bike someday. I love those bikes!
I bought a Shadow Spirit 750 for my first bike. Still have it; love that thing. You'll do great on one.
I have an 01 shadow ace 750 deluxe first bike really nice ride I took the windscreen mine since I herd there not nice when it windy
Talking the language of my channel. Honda! (Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha,Harley, OK bikes!!😂) Love you guys! Keep it up!
I have a 2006 shadow 750. Love it. It's my standby bike. Over 50k miles still purrs
This makes me feel good about owning an older Honda shadow lmfaoo
Just bought my first bike a 96 Honda Shadow 1100VT and I love it perfect beginner bike for me
I have a Spirit, but because it was my dad's and when he passed I had to keep it- I've always wanted the ACE version.
Slowly, I'll be making changes to it to suit my taste- like passing lamps and more chrome. The two-tone ACE is gorgeous, and I have no desire at all to own a Harley.
These bikes are bulletproof, awesome and inexpensive to operate. 👍🏻
I still have my ACE, very comfortable easy to ride. And I still have my Harley but she often gives me a hard time, This shadow just GOES.
When I sold my shadow spirit, I was dead set on a 1200 sportster. I ended up bringing home a vtx 1300c. No regrets!
Pay attention to how I write the next sentence. How old is TOO old to ride? (Not "... to old to...") Pesky homonyms.
@@JW...-oj5iw i am in my mid 50s.
Mid 50s is still young! Come back when you're in your mid 80s and we'll talk
BTW, the Shadow is one of 6 in the stable. There's also a Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 and 3 Valkyries.
I got the shadow spirit and love it. Can’t wait for it to warm up so I can ride!!
Why wait, i rode my bike straight through winter i live in pa though so it doesnt get that cold
Stay safe.
I ride a 600 and I love it. Can't wait for the weather to warm up here Illinois
That bike is beautiful! I have a VTX1800 but i like the Shadow 1100 ACE and AERO for their lighter weight, styling and general simplicity of use.
Got a 1997 Honda Shadow ACE 1100 & i love that bike. Took her on a 100 mile ride today.
Did you say 2,500?!?! That's insane! I will take two at that price.
I have a '97 honda shadow vt1100c spirit, owned it for a year and I absolutely love it, I'll never get rid of it!
There is also a Shadow 125cc for reference and they have done both single cylinder and V-twin versions under the shadow name.
That Ace is very pretty, its really sad nobody makes a SMALL Indian inspired bike something in the 500 to 700cc range, a scout for the modern age.
I've been ridding 20 years and have ridden everything. I currently ride a 1998 Shadow Aero 1100
I want a pair of those Ox blood gloves, please do another order.
we have a few pairs that got returned from the initial purchased, you can find them on bikesandbeardsgear.com to see if we have your size
Great video on a great bike. I ride a 97 1100 ace . Keep them coming Shawn God bless.
Honda shadow ace 1100 is my first bike and truly love it!
Still one of my handful of potential dream bikes to own one day. Thanks for sharing!
@@papatorr3669 i agree honestly its insulting
im curous, if this is a learning bike at 1100 cc, what is aseasoned bike?
Had a 2000 750. It's what I returned to street riding on after about a decade hiatus. Loved it, got rear-ended at it was totaled. I still think about that bike.
I own a 2001 Honda Shadow 1100, best bike I’ve ever owned, extremely dependable, just needs oil and tires. Love it, ride every summer all summer long.
My first bike was a Shadow 750 Ace. Second was a Shadow Sabre 1100. Fantastic bikes.
The Aero 1100 C3 took that design just a little bit further. Great engine, Great bikes!
I was just about to take a closer look at that bike when you said you sold it. you snooze you loose. Nice bike for 2500.00
I think Sean under-priced that one a little. Many of us would have gladly paid more for that beauty!
I love the Shadow range and have owned 2 ACE 1100s. Great bikes.
I still got my shadow since 2001 no problems at all it's a hardcore bike
Digging that vaquero in the background ,,, let's see you show that please , I'm thinking that is my next bike
I had a 96 Honda Shadow Ace 1100, it was an awesome bike, still miss it. If only shipping to the UK was cheaper...
For me, the best Honda motorcycle ever built would be a 1978-182 Honda CBX 1000
That’s the best bike Honda made and they have NEVER made a better or same sounding machine since this bike. Guaranteed to make you smile every ride! Super FUN! Where as this cruiser, despite its History, is just another Shadow. Message/Tag me when you get a CBX 1000 and I will drive all the way from Texas to buy it from you.

I had a 750 shadow ace. Same two tone colors. It was a beautiful trustworthy bike.
I just bought a 03 Honda Shadow ACE 750 for my first bike. I'm in love already.
Back in 2010 I had a 1985 Honda VT1100 Spirit. Best bike I ever had!!!💯
The Rocky III of SRK Videos... Back to Basics. Great review on an Awesome Honda. 👍 😎
I’ve got a 96 and it runs great. I’ve had it for 8 years now and got it for my first bike. I’ve gotten quite a few compliments on it from guys on Harleys
Miss my '98 1100 ACE. Fantastic bike!
2007 Honda Shadow Sabre VT1100 gave $2800 love my bike powerful great ride
We done had our "cold" month in Houston and now I gotta get my warm riding gear out--sorry fer yee up north
I'm jealous
I’m up north I still ride in 30f to 40f it’s called bundle up it’s not hard
You’re just gloating lmao. At least winter gives me time to chop/customize my shadow without missing riding time.
@@outdoorvideoswithbrad no amount of bundling up makes it possible to ride on snow and ice
@@JL-kg2zl ya you got a point I’ve road in icy conditions, and tried to ride in my yard in snow it didn’t work haha, I always take my bike around the yard each time I get back from riding
I had one for years. Was the best motorcycle I ever had. It was an ACE Deluxe 1100.
Also, I can't use M1 Moto gloves. They don't come in small.
Shadows are nice bikes, I had a 96 VT600C VLX as my first motorcycle and I had a lot of fun cruising around on it.
Just bought a vlx600 for my first bike, I absolutely love it
Was my first bike too, a 2003. Its great for that.
Want that as my first bike :)
I got a vlx as my third bike. I've had 7 bikes overt the years. Still have that vlx, although she doesn't look like a vlx as much these days
yup same 07 vlx, my first bike got last year, its fantastic
I have an 1100 spirit, but I wanna get a 600 because they make awesome bobbers.
