Honda Shadow 750 Aero: Can it HIGHWAY?

- Once again we take the Honda Shadow 750 out on the Interstate to see how it does. The first time I don't think we gave it a fair chance. We only ran exit to exit but this time we run almost 30 miles.
Let me know what you guys think in the comments! Thanks for watching!

When you ride a cruiser you're enjoying the views not running away from it...65-70mph.more than enough to enjoy it..great video
Thanks! I agree with you. These style bikes are more about the journey, not the destination.
I love my Aero 750, cruising at 75-80 on the highway is a breeze on my bike
I'm glad to hear you are enjoying your bike! Thanks for watching!
I remember as a teenager my first bike was an old 07 shadow. I rode the wheels off that thing from CO to CA and back.
It will handle those kinds of trips no problem but it is the vibration that gets me. Sounds like you have some great memories on that ol' Shadow!
I recently did a 2 day, 925 mile ride on a '23 KLR650, all hwy averaging 62-63 mph. Fixing to trade it for a '24 Aero. If u set your mind to it, around the block or around the world is do-able on just about any bike u like. Ride safe!
I love my Shadow 750 for highway, especially here in Australia where we can't go above 65 anyway. Great video, lovely looking Aero 👌
The windshield made a HUGE difference. Good to hear from you. Take care friend!
I have a 2015, 750 Honda Shadow with 38,000 miles very nice mid size bike will do 80 all day. Good over all machine with very good gas mileage inexpensive cost of ownership with good comfort for a small to average size guy. 5’7, 195, lbs.
If I didn't bob mine out I probably would not have bought a bigger bike. But hey, two is better than one!
I love my ‘05 Shadow Spirit on the highway too. Does exceptionally well, she’s a cream puff.
I'm curious if the Spirit's larger front wheel makes a difference in handling or stability at those speeds. Glad you are enjoying your Shadow!
My friend owns a Honda shop and there is something about the 750 that’s just fun . Kinda like the Vw beetle
Accelerates about like my buick. Which isn't a fast car at all but it's not about getting there fast, it's about enjoying the ride.
Thanks! This video answered my question as to whether or not this bike can ride the highway. Most of my rides will be rural roads but occasionally i will get on the interstate for 20 miles or so.
Plenty of people have ridden these cross country as well but for occasional use the 750 does fine.
Nice cruising vid man! I recently purchased a honda vtx 1800 and man o man what a joy to ride
Thank you! I bet that 1800 is a blast!
Hey man!! Nice video and great ride! I just did a commute Friday on the shadow. About 40 miles each way mostly highway. Had no shield. I could tell the shadow was pushed to its limits. Didnt feel comfortable much over 70. Winds were about 19mph. I mostly did right and middle lanes. Glad I watched this. I probably need a bigger bike to do that commute then. I am more used to city traffic anyways. I once pushed it and went 95mph it had nothing left. When I got home the battery died. I dont have a tachometer but I have no idea how to tell but it revs real high at those speeds.
Please post more!!
The 750 at around 75 mph is turning somewhere around 4200 rpm. Redline is about 6200 but yeah, I never felt comfortable pushing it on the highway between the vibration and the wind.
I feel the same way on my shadow, it never felt comfortable enough for me 70+, I thought there was something wrong with my bike with these guys casually cruising on 75-80.
However Im a big guy arround 300lbs also I got not windshield but still man.
@@yussefhazem5637 I felt the exact same when I took mine out at those speeds for the first time.
@@LuckyAcesRiding You think it might be the windshield?
@@yussefhazem5637 I did find the windshield makes a huge difference and keeps a lot of the wind off your chest. It doesn't feel like you are being blown off the bike.
Let me understand this. If you ride 50-60 mph, other drivers going faster will not pass you or what? There are people doing 5000 miles trips on 200 cc scooters and motorcycles (12 to 18 hp), the record being 1060 miles in 24 hours (as far as I know) and you worry about this bike's capabilities?!
You make a good point. People have been riding smaller cc machines all over the world for decades. While it can do it, I'd prefer something with a little more top end.
I remember stories from back in the day where good old boys would make a cross country trip on a 250 with a girl on the back...
Honestly it's what you make of it... Ride your bikes capability slow down take your time...
Can you really enjoy the ride at 100 mile an hour through the countryside?
@@brittonharrison-diller6985 About your first statement, it's happening today as well. Many people do it just fine and even more than that, some do it on much distrusted chinese bikes without problems.🙂 The example I gave in my first comment was exactly that: long distance and almost nonstop riding done on chinese scooter and motorbike. With this in mind, imagine how it is to be worried about riding this Honda.
Excellent disclosure brother
@@brittonharrison-diller6985 after having some surgery on my leg, my wife and I had d to use my 250 Suzuki for touring. We made two 10 day long 1200+ trips. We were both surprised at how little difference the smaller displacement made. The things we noticed the most were the less powerful brakes (we were well overloaded) and the lack of leg room. And long hill climbs were kind of slow. On the other hand exploring dirt back roads and just general around were a lot easier. The only real reason that we ended up getting the Vulcan 900 was the better leg room and our old knees. On solo trips I have stuck with the TUx 250. I really enjoy the flexibility it offers. And it only weighs half as much and gets twice the milage. So the 2013 TUx has 40,000 miles on it, while the 2007 Vulcan has 20,000.
Nice video showcasing the highway speed capability of the Honda Shadow 750.
Can you please also comment on the comfort, maneuverability after putting on the ape hangers/ handle bar update on highway ride?
I'm considering getting a Ho da Shadow 750 or 1100 for highway riding.
Enjoy your content a lot - subscribed.
Ride safe 👍
I'll see what I can come up with. There is one downside of the ape hangers on the highway, and that is all the wind on your chest. With a windshield it isn't as big of a deal but without one it feels like you might get blown off the bike. At 75mph the 750 is turning somewhere around 4200 rpm so it tends to vibrate a bit. As someone who owns the 750, if you plan on spending a lot of time on the highway get the 1100.
Keep up the good content. The Aero has a loyal cult following so you will have a lot of views and subs. Never mind the haters, they're just mad that you didn't have to sell your firstborn in order to be able to afford such a fun and cool-looking bike! P.s. I ride my 2007 on the freeway in the S.F. Bay Area regularly with no problems ( and the Bay Area is all Hills). Also there's another arrow Rider who posts on RUclips who rode with his wife, two up, through the hills of Virginia and Kentucky. They didn't seem to have any problems at all, just saying
Thanks Michael! The Shadow 750 is just a good little (well, little-ish) motorcycle that for 99% of people does everything they need it to do.
Much better. This one was useful, good information.
Thank you. The other video doesn't give the bike enough credit.
The speed limit on I 80 is 80 mph where I live, my aero does that and more easily. Love my shadow aero!
I'm from Texas where 90 mph on a freeway is the average speed, windshield helps alot
But yeah 70 to 75 are good crusing speed for it 80 is reving a little too high still pretty good for a mid size motorcycle
70 to 75 is its happy place for sure!
Honda makes a near-bullet-proof 5-speed no doubt but, why didn't they put a 6-speed on the Shadow or the VTX?
If this bike had a 6th gear I would not need any other machine. I'm still secretly shopping for a VTX1300 for the extra highway power.
@@LuckyAcesRiding I might be a little older than you, I have both the 750 Shadow and the 1800VTX. I ride the 750 more, the 1800 is a beast,,, for me at least. A 6 speed on the 750 would be plenty enough for me.
@@timothyprice9064 Ive heard that 1800 is a monster lol. It seems like it would be a lot to handle unless you are running lots of highway miles.
@@LuckyAcesRiding The less I long haul the less I use it. Take it out every now and then, because people like to see them.
These bikes could sit at top speed across America
I've played with my air/fuel mixture a little bit since this video and it is much more comfortable on the highway. I might have swapped the exhaust and air intake as well which may have helped.
80mph is around 128kph and the speed limit here in Finland on motorways is 120kph all the power I would need in Finland as Trucks are pretty much restricted to 80kph or 100kph so enough power and speed to overtake a truck. Not that I would need it for motorways just back roads mostly.
Good video. What was the banging noise when you were going over 65? Was that just wind noise?
Yes, wind noise being picked up by the bluetooth headset. Almost sounds like I'm underwater. I've never been happy with the audio quality but I have a plan!
You said at 2:10 " cruzin just under 4500. @ 75 mph that was your rpms?
Off the top of my head that seems a little high but at that speed the bike is over 4200 for sure.
How does it handle the bumps and cracks in the road at highway speeds?
It soaks them up pretty well. The biggest thing I noticed is wind. Being a lighter cruiser big trucks and heavy crosswinds are apparent. Manageable but you will notice them!
Two things that are missing from this motorcycle. (1) Cruise control and (2) A 6th gear transmission.
I can not agree with you more!
I wonder why can't ✌️the manufacturer make similar cc transmissions with longer legs like the ones that run 200 mph🤔
@@truckertwotimes7189 Maybe it is their business model. If a small bike does everything you need it to they might not be able to sell you a bigger one.
@@LuckyAcesRiding Bingo.
I have a buddy of mine that did a honeymoon tour Coast to coast on a 250....
I can only imagine how long that took but also understand that is kind of the point.
1:41 "Shoulda worn earplugs."
My man, ALWAYS wear your earplugs. Don't be like me: a dude in his mid 20's with tinnitus who learned the hard way. Ride safe
I am still really bad about this but I don't do a lot of highway riding. This year I plan to stretch my legs so to speak so I need to get use to them.
I get tired of hearing people talk like a Honda Aero 750 can't handle the highway. You can't blow one of those bikes up. I'm running man 100 Mi an hour more times than I can count and it just keeps on Truckin. Point Blank
Would have been nice to hear the engine while at highway speed instead of that 80’s B-movie soundtrack.
This is back when I was recording with a cheap in-helmet bluetooth headset. There was too much wind noise and it sounded horrible. Of course some might say the 80's track wasn't great either lol. I have much better tools at my disposal now so we'll get back out there before too long.
I have a 07. I just wish the gearing was taller on 5th. I'm always searching for that 6th. The power is fine but the engine scream way too much.
Agreed. I look for 6th all the time as well but can never find it. The Shadow is great around town and that's usually where it stays.
@@LuckyAcesRiding might have to get a VTX or softail next time
@@johnny_realman3628 Not going to lie I've been checking locally for a used VTX1300 but I think it will be a while. I'd LOVE an Indian Scout though!
@@LuckyAcesRiding yea I love scout bobber but they r still outa the 5k range. VTX can be found pretty cheap tho. Still, gonna stick to my shadow 750 for a while
@@johnny_realman3628 The cheapest Scouts I have seen around here are in the 8.5k-10k range. Great looking bikes though. I am sticking with the 750 for a while as well. If I need to do any long highway rides I still have my 600 Katana.
clicked to hear how hard the engine works vs speed. Instead, you ruined your video with mindless music. exiting out and blocking
I have at least two other videos with what you are looking for, for instance: ruclips.net/video/RuQN_yF1tr8/видео.html
He's definitely not watching the WHOLE channel...I'm a fellow shadow 750 rider and this did me just fine...haters gonna hate regardless 😤
Where did you get all your cables
Throttle cables are stock, clutch cable came from Mean Cycles. I talk about everything here --> ruclips.net/video/EBaw4etkb04/видео.html Hope that helps.
What apes are they
Sorry I missed this. I got them from J&P cycles. www.jpcycles.com/product/500-944/j-p-cycles-1-chrome-12-ape-hanger-handlebar
Are apes just for affect ?
Loses power because it's shaft driven
I think I read somewhere that with the shaft drive the 750 has about 30 hp to the rear wheel. Considering this bike only has about 45 that is a pretty big drop!
If only the whole world was flat, throw an incline grade of 5% or greater like the kind of highways the rest of us have to deal with and you'll quickly realize just how dangerous a 550+ lbs motorcycle with only 37 bhp really is in traffic, there's nothing like the feeling you get when you are on the highway traveling up hill with the throttle twisted all the open and you still can't even do the speed limit but you are watching in the review mirror as a 2 1/2 ton 4x4 truck is barreling down on you at 80 mph and you got no place to go except the shoulder to keep from getting ran over. and then there's the fact that at 80 mph the shadow 750 engine is running at 5000 rpm which is only 500 rpm's below redline, that kind of prolonged stress will shorten the life of any motorcycle by 50% or more, of course we couldn't hear the motor being pushed that hard in your video because of the music.
there are 2 questions I can't for the life of me figure out the answers to, first is why honda would take a just adequate 750 street motorcycle like the 1st gen shadow which had 70 hp, a 6 speed, a top speed of 130 mph and even a low fuel level light and re-release it with less HP then their 450 street bikes and make it slower then their old 360 twin street bike and even remove things like the low fuel light when all the other brands have gas gauges, and my second question is why have people who actually got to test ride one still bought this gutless POS, this 2nd gen shadow is the only 750 sized bike in modern history i can think of that should be banned from highway use in some states because it's so under powered to the point of being dangerous.......
And that is the exact point of the video, to draw your own conclusions. Either way, you still clicked on it so thanks for the view.
The 750 has plenty enough power... Have to say this is not a dick measuring contest...
I would take my 750 across a f****** planet... Yeah they're going to be some times where it's going to be slower it's not a f****** crotch rocket it's not a big ass bagger...
But you know what I'll get to the same place within about the same time for a hell of a lot less fuel...
Plus in the cities it works out even better...
Sorry dude size doesn't always matter
It's 45 HP and 6500 rpm redline.
How tall are you? I'm about 6'1 and i'm going to get one of these Memphis windshields. What size if yours?
Mine is a Memphis Shades Fats 15" and I am about 5'11" tall or 6' with my riding boots on.
mine is older carb. 2003 wouldnt recomend on highway to slow and to light sucked under semi trucks or blown into other lane by wind. the newer ones have fuel inj. appear way faster.
