Hi from Kalbarri Western Australia
@@TaraFarms
Also for merch... I deffo feel like your own wool into dryer balls and Tara's or even slugs.. moist balls to be named! 7:23
For the culture segment I vote you tell us stories about growing up on the farm but only the ones where things DID NOT go according to plan.
Yes please do that
i love this idea
Please also tell us how you make friends since you're in the middle of nowhere.
@@lianagheorma92 Tara went to a school, she didn’t do boarding school so she made friends their
@@Cowgirlforlife but where did she go to school? Isn't she far from town?
It's wild seeing how different your work looks without Typo. She's a good little slug!
Very difficult without Slug! I’m glad it portrays how vital she is to my work!
@TaraFarms hey friend love the content. Have you gotten comments about the rape lambs and rape paddock statement yet? 😂 maybe call it Bonar instead for the confused 😂
“It’s all good. I can see the sheep” 🤣☠️ how Tara tells you you’re a moron without telling you you’re a moron 😂😂
Yeah the give mama a scratch comment is hilarious. Yep needlessly approach and touch the stressed as hell prey animal because it makes you (apex predator) feel good and like you’ve really done something.
The cursed art is back everyone!!!!! My day is made
I can hear some of the greats quaking in their graves!
Fucking love your drawings. Accurate depictions, minimalist style, and educational. They give me life, lol
😂LOL Tara - love the drawings! You have a VERY good point!❤
Yes, her artistry is a great addition to the vlog. ;-)
It’s quality artwork! 🖼️
It will b worth a lot of money in years to come 😜🤣 xxxx
4:10 They're used to Sandi Brock's style who's like a OBGYN but for sheep. People tend to over anthropomorphize animals especially dogs and make them out to be empty nest replacements for their kids that moved out of the house. Anyway, I could go on, lol about this peeve of mine. You're funny and make me laugh!!
Look at Sandi Brock's channel, she's been doing really well with her wool products.
Sandi has far less sheep and they are socialized with humans on a more individual level than these sheep. They are more tolerant of being near and touched by humans than these sheep.
Probably the ones that complain about swearing are also Brocktons; Sandi is super pure on camera and her Facebook acolytes don't tolerate straying from that **at all* 🙄 I don't know how she does it, honestly
I don't know either 🤦♀🤦♀🤦♀🤦♀The thing I can't stand is how Sandi is always putting herself down when things go wrong, I'm like shit woman give yourself a damn break, you're already on parr with most men, and her fans are like you drive that equipment really great "for a woman", go say that to Mark, gee Mark, you drive that combine really well for a man. She will get a repetitive injury (resulting in chronic pain) at some point from using that shitty hoof trimmer which needs to be completely refurbished, cleaned lubed and adjusted so it's easier to use and not putting so much stress pressure on their joints both Sandi and Carissa, Work smarter not harder????? And that "nanny"(?), how many times will everything go wrong? @@medicbabe2ID Also that dog Piper needs obedience training, it's going to get hit or injured one of these times by screwing with the wrong sheep and or death by Telehandler. If you're going to have a dog that's a high energy breed, train the damn thing.
I have two high drive, high energy dogs, a sporting dog German short/wirehaired pointer mix breed and a Belgian Malinois who's a service dog, I've trained and worked with them on basic obedience and a solid recall.
Anyway, I've digressed😂🤣🤷♀🤷♀🤩, thanks Medic Babe for listening. ❤🩹
Sandi also has a much different (and smaller) operation. The moms and babies have to be separated to have a chance to bond since they don't have a huge pasture to separate out themselves. Her lambing numbers per ewe are probably also higher so more multiples than Ewes can feed. So more bottle babies. Tara also takes the rejected lambs to carers so that part isn't on camera.
Again with the drawings!!! THANK YOU! audible laughing😂. Missing the Slug moisturizing. The drawings help❣️
For Aussie culture stuff you might consider discussing the Kelpie breed - they're pretty rare to find in the US, so it's likely a lot of your viewers think Typo is some kind of strange pinscher mix or rescue mutt. Showing the other dogs here at the end makes it clear this is an actual breed which might surprise some folks.
Would be interesting to know what breed features make Kelpies good for this work, why you're not using something like a collie or cattle dog, or if you do use other breeds are there any notable differences in herding style, etc. If I recall correctly there's also some fun lore regarding dingo lineage in kelpies which people like to disagree about. Do you think they're descended from dingoes? Does this make them better suited to the climate?
I'm also curious about when you have to retire a herding dog or put them on rest like Typo is now, do they get antsy to go back to work? Do you have to give them "play herding" tasks like letting them herd ducks or something?
Nice to see typo looking better. I love the donut of shame. I look forward to seeing her getting around the sheep again.
Love your adventures on the farm. Each week it is something new. Happy to see Slug is doing better.
Luv your unvarnished reaction to comments, at times its laugh out loud funny. 👍
Some you just have to look at and it just doesn't compute.
good to see slug feeling better. 💚💚💚
I love that you film reality; this is a farm & these are farm animals. NOT pets. People need to stop humanizing animals & realize that farming is a livelihood. Doesn't mean you don't love & take care of animals.
YES, I HAVE BEEN WAITING ALL DAY FOR YOU TO POST THIS VIDEO. I have watched every single video of yours including the dog training video! I love you so much Tara your incredible and you helped me regain my love for agriculture and I’m so grateful❤ you also make me want to work on a sheep station❤❤ keep up the vids
Classic picture 😂😂😂 I'm glad you enjoy my content thank you for watching it!!!

Remember to count them too. Do you do this to get to sleep when you have insomnia? lol
Another fantastic vlog tara and its good to see slug feeling better
She came to work today and followed me around, we're shearing tomorrow so she might have to do some light work. She's meant to have the all clear tomorrow too!
I hope Slug gets the all clear tomorrow. She is a very sweet dog. It’s good to hear she is feeling better.
We miss her. I watch you on my television after work and my kitty cats 🐈⬛ love her. ❤
"Goat" farming looks like hard work! 😉😆
I love how the sheep are like, it's every sheep for them self's and just try to jump over each other😂
Yes lambs especially have a everyone's for themselves mentality lol
Typo is the best internet celebrity canine. I love her.
Love your vlogs! Having grown up on a sheep and cattle farm in victoria it's refreshing to see someone showing how we as farmers treat our animals and slowly (hopefully) break down this stigma!
Yay! Another episode of Farmer Wants a Swear Jar. 😉
Good to see Slug up and about. 😊
Saved that for a video title!
@TaraFarms Did you ever end up using "Farmer Wants a Swear Jar" for a video title?
Glad to see Slug feeling better. Enjoy watching you, and learning about Australian sheep farming. You and Sandy are my sheepple. Loved your birthing illustrations 😂😂😂.
I can tell that you care and take care of all youre animals.
The key retrieval reminds me of Rescuers Down Under, but it's irl and even better that it's IN Australia
I've never seen it! 🙈
@@TaraFarms it's fun! It's an old Disney movie about a pair of mice who have to go to the Outback to rescue a kid from a poacher. It's the sequel to The Rescuers, but imo it's far superior.
Love your videos, including the language. Aussie clutcha never hurt anyone. I would like to see and hear more technical stuff. Sheep vaccinations - what with - what for; paddock sizes, sheep numbers etc, etc. Keep up with the videos.
Thank you for that feedback :)
Top notch storytelling! Promising future in animation if the sheep (sorry, goat) farming thing goes sideways! Seriously though, you've been busy af!
Solid efforts those ones, very hard to draw on the computer with a mouse 😂😂😂
Yes dyer balls are a great idea
They're much easier than spinning the wool and a good use for the wool that can't be spun!
Love the arts section of the video
You wouldn't think that watching this british dude herd goats would be that entertaining. . . . But I'm addicted. . . .
Just discovered you not too long ago via youtube shorts, and I love your content! Your sense of humor is fuckin beautiful and it goes very well with the educational side of it. Also, best wishes for the Slug!!!!
Thank you! I appreciate that 😊
I just saw one of your older videos about sports day at school. Loved it. I also love your drawings, very informative.
Wouldn't mind seeing a bit of your dad and others that work on the farm.
Great suggestion! Thank you! I don’t think anyone else wants to be in the videos that much, except maybe Liam.
Would love to buy some dryer/wool balls and other wool products from ya! Thanks for educating us like always!❤
"can't have long things in my mouth on camera" bwahaha!
Great content, hope your fanbase stays wholesome n creep-free.
hope the adorable slug creature feels better soon
Love learning that you spin some of your wool! I'm a handspinner (which is ultimately how I found you, as I follow shepherds ...). If you want to get more lanolin/stickiness out of your fleece, you need to increase the temperature of the water. There are many many videos on RUclips for home-processing fleeces. Lots of opinions about amount and type of soap/detergent. I do it a lot myself. It's very satisfying.
Agreeded.
I’m guessing she’s spinning merino. I’ve never had raw merino to work with and heard it’s very greasy. It might take a couple rounds of washing as well.
@@angemcauslan2551 Yes, if she's spinning Merino that's a very high lanolin amount. I haven't hand-processed Merino, but I've processed Rambouillet, which is a close cousin. I had to "cook" that on the stove top, approaching but not reaching boiling point (I think I did 160-180F/71-82C) . Two rounds of washing with soap (I use Kookaburra Scour) and two rounds of rinsing. Less-crimp fleece can be done in a sink with hot tap water (I usually have to turn the heat up on the hot water heater); still a total of four rounds though, but probably only 120F/49C.
Thank you, I’ll try getting it hotter. How long do you let it sit for? I’ve been doing 30 minutes then doing it again.
Edit: yes it’s merino fleece it’s one of my pet’s fleece. Didn’t realise they were hard to do until recently. I’m going to try a couple of composite ones this weekend.
@@TaraFarms I work mostly with Suffolk and border Cheviot fleece. I run the through one round hot water then two rounds scouring with soap. Generally, leaving 30-60min depending on how hot it is out (the hotter the longer I can leave it without cooling off too much). Main thing is to ensure the water doesn’t drop below the lanolin melting temperature before draining otherwise the lanolin will redeposit on the wool.
@@manicspinner1959 I’ve got one Rambouillet x Corriedale fleece I noticed needed to be a bit hotter but definitely not that hot! I’m glad to know in case I can get a merino fleece someday. Not common in my part of Canada.
Yay you post tomorrow! I’m so excited to see what the next video is
Love the videos. Would like to see how you train the new dogs. They are amazing at what they do and would like to see how you get them to perform so well. Glad Slug is doing better, she is a star.
Tilly is Dad’s dog so he’ll be training her, I will get another dog at some point when typo gets a little older and I’ll cover the training from a pup. But I don’t train my work dogs like the professionals do.
Your spinning of your wool is looking great so far. I'm also interested in getting my hands on some of the fleece at some point.
Love your sense of humour 😂😅
Great seeing you again Tara and glad that you’re gorgeous Slug is on the mend x
Love your videos, typo is the best girl
Typo's the bestest girl!!
Lampshade and Donut 😂😂 Another great video.
Really enjoyed this video! Especially the drone footage! Glad Slug is on the mend.
For the culture segment, please tell us how you made friends growing up since you live so far away from any town or city. Also, how did you go to school.
I'm originally from Romania but I moved to California almost 20 years ago, when I was 13. My only exposure to Australian culture was a tv show that was popular in the early 2000s in Romania, when I was still a kid- McLeod's daughters. But they did a lot of horseback riding.
Good job Tara.
Had missed your videos. Glad you’re back!
I was going to not like the video to prove that Slug's not the boss of me but then I remembered I don't have a car so she can't do anything to me. Nyah! So I liked the video after all.
😂😂😂😂😂 fair enough. But you must know Slug is everyone’s boss.
I started to use dryer balls last year. They work wonderfully for drying.
Love your content. Needed something interesting to watch we have just had 44ml of rain today.
Thank you for watching glad you enjoyed the content. We didn't have that much but we got pelted earlier today.
Oh my god you always make my day 😂 The cursing and humour is exactly what’s needed for a laugh !
Love the drone footage and your wool looks great.
Missed my comment last week! Happy that slug is sluggin again!!! Super awesome video! Id love to hear more about the divisions you feel in the countryside vs in the cities and the politics/governance surrounding sheep farming!!
A couple weeks ago I suggested that the drone footage music should have cheerier music and it really makes a difference! The drone footage was so much fun to watch today!
Another great video! Keep up the good work!
Where within Oz do y'all like to vacation? What are some Aussie activities that are far less common in the rest of the world?
glad to see ol slug doing better ❤
I love the drawings and analogy
New to the channel, but absolutely love them!!!❤❤❤
Two crook pups, eh? Bugger. I hope they both come good asap.
And GREEN! Paddocks aren't meant to look like that in summer. Those drone shots work really well.
Last, umm... hearing sight? 😂
Yes, both around Christmas/New Years too! Absolutely, having a VERY strange year this year. Don't you know about hearing sight? 😂
Your carded wool looks really good. Gonna give carding a go after this Spring shearing. 🤞
Always enjoy the cool drone footage.
It’s like you’ve picked keys before.😉
I would definitely buy dryer balls. They are awesome. Great idea.
I frikn LOVE dryer balls! I get them from Kmart- NZ. They are so darn cute for some reason. they have a penchant for playing hide and seek ... reappearing in a fitted sheet or a leg of my trackies
I have that issue with pegs, I'll be wearing a jumper all day and all of a sudden I'll find a peg 😂
So happy to see Typo is on the mend!
After finding out that a grass seed is a burr, my childhood memories of getting sand spurs stuck in my legs & ankles from playing & biking through Florida scrublands returned 😖 Those phkrs were painful & would cripple me until I plucked them out carefully! Then at home had to pull them out of my sneakers, shoe laces & even the rubber bike tires 🤬
I gave birth in a whole ass hospital and if anyone had scratched behind my ears and told me I was brave. Even if I knew them, they would have died. Don’t touch me, unless you’re taking my vitals, you don’t need vitals from behind my ear.
Thank you Tara 😊❤❤
Thank you for watching!! 😊
Holy cow, that was soooooo funny!!! And I love the pictures!!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂
Oh Tara I was made up that you actually took the time to actually like my comment. Hopefully you will have a fab weekend Down under. It’s hilarious it’s just like listening to myself… I m always swearing. You would fit in where I come from in Liverpool in England really well. Hopefully one day you will get to get over here for a holiday. Sending love and lots of swearing to you Slug and the family. For fucks sake keep it up, you really cheer me up.
That is some impressive key scooping. Take it that’s happened a few times lol
I think i REALLY need one of your explanatory cartoons on a shirt/hat for when I'm out working in the sun....they're the best :D
Love watching your videos, very interesting, I love that the sheep have large area to run and graze. My Grandparents were farmers, Dairy then Black Angus Cattle, I learned to drive really young in the fields and have very good memories of the farms in our family, one was a sheep farmer as well. I would love too see your wool spun into yarn, I crochet and know others that do. Gods Blessings as you Shephered your sheep.
There's so much work in it. I have a new appreciation for clothes 😂
I think Sandi brok MIGHT be able to sit next to her sheep if they are sick. But that is such a different situation, and even then I think they aren't too fond of her and sees her as a stranger. So not sure why you would do what don't work for your sheep and lambs? That is such a weird idea to me. These are your sheep and lambs and we can CLEARLY See you both know what you are doing but do also love what you are doing and your goal is to do what best for your sheep to make them live their best lives for as long as you have them. And go go bestest Slug! PS.. AMAZING work with the keys!
Yeah, Sandi frequently talks about how even the lambs she bottle feeds and hand-raises tend to become obnoxious and aggressive towards her as adults - which is why there are only a few named sheep in her herds.
She’s around all her sheep daily I believe so they see people everyday. Her dogs also are in with the sheep also and just vibe together where as we need our sheep to be scared of dogs to be able to herd and for them to protect their lambs from animals like foxes.
Sandi’s sheep are very tame in comparison to ours, I can sit with my pet sheep but no chance that you could walk up to the sheep on the farm unless they were really sick.
I dont think i could handle the smell. That's a hard job. Thank you for your service 🫡
Definitely interested in a bag or two of wool to spin and dye up (never done it before but want to have a go)
Hi Tara. I’m so glad to see Slug on the mend. I’m fairly new to the channel and I love seeing a different way to farm sheep. (I come from Sheepishly Me - Sandi Brock) It would be helpful for those newer to your channel to go back to basics. You have such a large amount of property that you are using to feed and harvest on, how do you decide who goes in which paddock and when and why do you switch? Then there are all these sheep and lambs; do you have a breeding schedule and if so how often do you breed? How do you decide which lambing group goes where and on average how long do you keep them before shipping them off? Do you ever keep any ewes to breed in the future? These are just some of my questions but you get the idea, just back to basics vlog.
Great content Tara. I would definitely buy fleece from you.
For the "culture segment" please tell us what you would want to know if you were visiting Australia... like..what is the best time of year to visit? What is the most miserable time of year to visit? What NOT to say to Aussies as to not piss them off? Where are the best places to visit? And what is the best Australian dish?
I clicked so fast I love ur videos Tara
For the culture segment: what is a ute because there was a lot of discussion of if it in general is what we call a pick up truck or if it is a specific vehicle
Question. Do you have a formal brush fire plan? Would you drive them into the far side of a plowed field and hope for the best? Do you ever do controlled burns to clean up the weeds and put back phosphorus and nitrogen? How many working dogs are there all together.? How many hired hands are there? Do you employ seasonal help? If so, why?
pew pew pew! Great info, clearly, colorfully & plainly presented!
Sluggy looks SO much better. I'm sure she misses being your co-pilot!
I watched a random video in my feed that showed how a family processes their wool by hand. It is quite an undertaking. That family had several older kids that did various parts of the process. I imagine doing it alone is pretty arduous.
She did show dryer balls that she somehow made to look like wee sheep faces (felting maybe?) that were adorable.
I think we’ve seen the same video! 😂 I don’t know how to felt, never have, but will try on the dryer balls 😂
I crochet. I would buy wool and dryer balls. the set I have now came from New Zealand sheep
Can’t wait to see Slug “moisturizing” again!
Person who made the comment about ear scratching a mama sheep after she just went through labour, needs to understand wild animals. These sheep are not pets, they are not domesticated, they are still wild and scared of humans. A rando alien human patting their back during a time of panic will make it worse and not better. That's why most farmers keep their interactions with the wild sheep, short and as needed. Nothing more, nothing less.
I do agree with you, these sheep don't come into contact with humans daily they don't want to be touched and I'd take a guess and say their Cortisol would increase.
I have used dryer balls for several years. Need to replace them in the next few months. I understand they need to be replaced @ 2 yrs.
Interesting thank you!!
Hey from one hand spinner to another. I would have run that batt through the drum carder one more time to smooth it out a bit.
If you are spinning long draw for a true woollen spun yarn I’d put in a touch less twist. If you are spinning long draw it looks decent.
All my own opinion though keep at it.
I had some questions, I found the answers in the video description 😂😂
Hi Tara, I'm interested in how your dogs work (Kelpies?) and how you communicate with them. I have sheep and use border collies with traditional UK verbal commands and whistles. I'm in the US. Thanks for the videos, your humor, and swearing!
8:03 god damn this one came out of frame like a bat out of hell
Can I buy some wool for my year 7 Food and Fibre Production unit? I may have to censor some videos but the kids would love it!!! I've shown some Insta stories to my Year 9 Food technology class and the Year 9's loved it!
Keep up the good work! Glad to see Typo taking it easy. And now Delta. You have a recovery ward at home.
Are you in Australia? And if so which state? I can send you a small box of the wool at different stages in the process to show. But I don’t know if I’d be able to ship it to WA or TAS.
😂😂😂 Love your graphics of giving birth... super realistic 😜👍
As always, extremely entertaining and well made video, although I did miss the Slug a bit
P.S. LOVE the "lampshade and doughnut" too 😂😂😂
Is there much of a difference between the sheep breeds? Ie personalities (behaviour, listening, escapism etc)? Fitness? agility? Or do they all pretty much the same. How long does it take to train a working dog? Do you have a preference in breed for a working dog? I know kelpies, border collies, cattle dogs are pretty common. For your Aussie section - what do you do outside of work/farming? Popular actives, hobbies, recreation stuff happens out in the country vs what you would get up to in the city or on holidays? We used to go camping to a lake and practice our driving, waterskiing and bushwalking. Lots of fires and listening to music.
Yes there is that’s why we’re moving to primelines. Merinos are generally dumber, very quiet, hardy until they’re not. While the primelines are a stronger quiet breed, really good mums, but do escape if the fences aren’t good.
I would love to buy wome wool! I have been eanting to practice spinning but I have no wool to practice with.
I would like to know more about your culture. What things interest you aside from your sheep. ? Do you knit? What is the name of your farm? Did you go to an agricultural college post high school or just start off working for your father out of high school. Was sheep farming your first interest or did you want to go into another profession? Do you have siblings and are they also working on the farm ? I know that this is your summer now but in winter what are the weather conditions like? How cold does it get? In Celsius ( I’m Canadian) .. I have to commend you when you were watching farmer takes a wife/husband. Your comments were hilarious. Did anyone win in the end? Do you have any other pet dogs other than your German Shepherd.
Thank you for your questions!
You are fuckin Awesome! ❤️ your doggie Typo.
Yes please to knitting wool. Some of us knit in 40 deg heat.
Couldn't do it!
Love the video. I just have a question about barbers pole worm. We have had it in our sheep and they have been drenched. But the question is, is there anything you can spray on the ground to get rid of barbers pole and any other harmful worms?
No I don’t believe so barber’s pole is really bad this year the best way to prevent it is don’t overgraze your paddocks. When sheep are eating very low to the ground, they’re more likely gonna pick up worms. Additionally, getting fecal egg count, or looking for signs of worms in your sheep, instead of just drenching can help because it reduces the chance of resistance.
I can have 60 when I was 14 I got a job at the museum and part of it was using a spinning wheel. We had the card and all that and you just learn to use a spinner wheel and be successful. Had to be able to read a book and run the spinning well the same time and at 14 I was stuck at the fair with all my friends and a colonial outfit using the spinning wheel. Now that’s
10:00 add a speaker to the drone and shout them down from far away.. 'get home you twats' or 'woof woof woof'
Australian culture idea. I'm from Kansas, but live in the Dallas Texas area now . There is a saying which resonated with me. "All hat and no cattle". I know what real farmers do and say. The urban cowboys (or girls) here don't know much, but want to tell me how things should be done with my cattle or honeybees. Do you have similar issues there?
