Only worked on a dairy farm for a year, but yes, the cows did like stopping in the gates. Mostly to void their intestines where it would splash the most.

If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say your cows were using the big wooding post to rub against. If you put a scratching post somewhere more convenient with scratching brushes on it, they'd likely move there.

No doubt Sluggirl / Slugwoman missed working while having that roll around her neck (we use cones here 🇨🇦). My niece was taking horseback riding lessons on a farm just outside my hometown. They also have Australian Shepherd dogs and on rare occasion will have a litter (not Australian cattle dogs - many people don’t know the difference) anyway they had a couple of horses out in the pasture, something spooked them and they jumped the fence. The dogs took off like a shot to bring the horses back. Most of the time lazing around but when they saw work to be done bamm they we on the case. lol

Cows will graze where you leave them. They don’t like to move, and when they do move, they move S - L - O - W - L - Y…. Solve this by moving them into centerfield, and they’ll plop there and stay until They are called for Green. Or they get tired and sleep in the field. Your lambs move like rabbits compared to a cows inclination.

    Hi Tara, Typo and folks.
Another Aussie here...back before online school we did School of the Air...30 years ago we had the choice between "on air" which was lessons by radio, or lessons arriving by mail. We chose the mail option for our kids when we were living waaay out in the whipstick. That meant I had to do the trek to town to pick up and post lessons regularly...a welcome long day out! 😊

I remember that Galloway cattle in Scotland were very good mums and will defend their calves vigorously. Don't let Slug or yourself come between a Galloway cow and her calf . I have a clear memory of a Beltie mum tossing me over a wall when I was about 14!

It's great to see typo up and about again. I was shocked that a seed could cause so much pain and suffering to her. Did you take Typo to a Melbourne vet because your local vet didn't have the experience and special equipment to do the operation? Her work was spot on in the vlog today and she is following your 'whistle' and voice commands perfectly. It's good too see the improvement in her skills over the last year. The gates are still causes issues but you cant blame typo. Your last few vlogs explaining Aussie sheep farming on a big scale and with different breeds has been very useful for me and I hope for the overseas viewers. Keep up with your great content. Chris from Bendigo, Victoria. Hope you had some lamb chops on Australia Day. 🇦🇺

      Hey Chris!
Local vets don't have a CT scanner, which I wanted her to have done so they knew where the seed was in her. I'm very happy with Typo's progress now I'm actively training and trying to get her to improve. I think it's important to also see the larger scale operations as well as the smaller ones that are available on youtube. 😊

Thanks for showing us the learning of sheep dogs, so many ppl, think it's just their natural manner, when it's actually hardwork training them.
Best of luck on your 'cooked' eye, I hope it heals soon and well, working one eyed, makes u a one eyed, Australian, Canterburian, NZ lol, welcome lol. A new Kiwi?! It must be like working without a sheep dog, being one eyed,😊

Thanks Taz, good one. Every now and again I send one of your vids to my rels in the US. They are fans, they have little comprehension of your life (they have been to Australia). They live in the high desert in Arizona, out in the scrub. There is a town close by “Globe” which has about 6,000 people. There is an Apache Reservation nearby, I don’t know how many people live there, it’s “San Carlos” Rez. They are both retired Orthopaedic Surgeons, but keep their hands in volunteering at the Rez. Hospital. The Husband loves your clips, I think, if he could, he would love a working dog. They have 6 dogs, 2 indoors and 4 outdoors, all the same breed, sort of Iberian Sheep Dog, about 100+ years ago a lot of Basque sheep herders settled in the area and the genetics of their dogs dominates the Rez. Dogs, they acquire their dogs because they can’t walk by a stray or injured dog. I stayed with them for 3 months last year, waking up to the scenery they have is a privilege, almost enough to make you believe. Snow on the plum tree in the yard, in the high desert in March, achingly beautiful. Watching Cardinals sit in mesquite then swoop into the swimming pool for a drink. Sitting outside at dusk, watching ghost bats flutter around a Judas tree, catching insects there for the nectar. Going into town and shopping for Navajo jewellery. Having to hunt high and low for lamb, eventually having to “special order” so we can show them BBQ rack of lamb (they ate it but you know they were thinking “what is this taste”) wish we could have fed them some Australian White or Dorper. Anyway, good job on this tape, thanks again.

That’s a beautiful picture you’ve painted! I’ve never seen to Arizona but it seems like the state most similar to the Australian outback?

    • @anthonyburke5656

@@TaraFarms the desert there is dominated by cactus, lower down is dominated by the “Saguaro” it’s that big cactus with arms you see in movies, it’s pronounced “sue wah roh” up higher it’s not so prevalent. In April, as it gets warmer, the whole desert bursts into spectacular colour if there has been rain or snow, the ground literally erupts in colour, dominant is yellow daisy-like flowers, but blue, pink, violet, bits of red are interspersed. On the roadsides, in disturbed ground, all sorts of invasive and colonising plants erupt. Little bushes burst into bloom. In stream beds it’s super intense. On the road from Globe to Tucson which I drove a couple of times, you could see watercourses snaking over the land, fringed by trees bearing lime green new growth. If you’ve been to the Northern Territory you will know of the Brown and Brahmins Kites patrolling the skies, waiting for roadkill or adventurous small animals, same there, they patrol the sky, mostly soaring by flying into thermals, spiralling up the column of warm air, then sliding out to drift cross country scouring the ground. In spring the Rattlers wake up, they are varied in their type, patterns and colours, one days, we shot 3 around the house (can’t risk the dogs). The quail have little bobbles on their head and come in to drink in the swimming pool. Mornings, the mists drift down the re-entrants in the hills and as the sun hits the ground, curl up to vanish in the air. I could go on for a fair while. You would be interested in the Navajo sheep (more like goats) and the weaving.

We have 2 belted galloway steers Dad got them cheap from the sales yards to eat waste hay along with the other cows. They were only suckers when we got them and they've grown A LOT! Had no idea they're rare!

dogs are different with men and women owners.. sexist maybe .. true yes ..being mean no... I think it is special that closeness ..
I notice with my nitro (stumpy blue red x) that he tends to think he is boss of me and it takes me that extra time to make sure his attention is on what I want him to do and not wander to something he wants to play sniff and pee on... he gets heaps of cuddles and sleeps under my bed or on it if its not to hot but he has that gentle edge... the woman's touch .. like typo does
Typo still has the youngness in her.. she is soo smart but got that cheeky edge...
love your videos thank you for what you do to educate the slickers @@TaraFarms 🐕🐶🐕
