      I ordered them from Aliexpress, but as shown between 4:27 - 4:50, some of them are faulty. (In case you don't know, you can turn on subtitle for this video. There are useful information in the subtitle) So I don't quite recommend you to buy it from Aliexpress, unless you have the ESR meter like me to check each of them.
      Anyhow, the part number for the capacitors is Panasonic 2R5TPE470M9, if you check if your local stores sell them too.

    • @hardwarerepair200
      @hardwarerepair200  Год назад +3

      For the original capacitors it needs to show ESR < 0.005 and Capacitance around 1280 uF to be working.
      As I have shown in 3:15 and 4:29, a bad capacitor can have a correct capacitance value but wrong ESR value. So you need to measure both.

    • @hardwarerepair200

      It sounds like you got some faulty tantalums. Have you checked the capacitance and ESR before putting them on the PS3? If not, I would suggest you removing all of them and double check.
      You also need to make sure your final ESR is less than 0.005 ohm. If you have 4 tantalums, and each of them has 0.020 ohm, then your final ESR is 0.020/4 = 0.005. If you put 6 tantalums and each of them has 0.020 ohm, then your final ESR is 0.020/6=0.003. Basically the more you put, the better it is.
      2:40 of my video shows how to check the capacitance.
      3:30 of my video shows how to check the ESR.
      I faced the same problem before and it was hell lot of work of soldering and de-soldering. Since then, I make sure all my tantalums are working before putting them on my PS3.

      @@mouskakyo7571 You also need to check ESR. Because most of the time, a faulty capacitor has a normal capacitance but a bad ESR. ESR meters are usually cheap to get, but a ESR meter that can measure up to 0.001 precision is a bit tricky to get.
      If you don't have a ESR meter right now, a quick workaround is to replace each NEC/TOKIN with 6 tantalums, and hope that there are enough tantalums to compensate for the faulty one.

    • @hardwarerepair200
      @hardwarerepair200  2 года назад +1

      They all seem to be connected in parallel so there is no restriction like "you must use 2". And it is just my lazy way to remove as few NEC/TOKINs as possible by putting back as much tantalum as possible.
      According to my own experience, 90% of the time, you just need to replace one NEC/TOKIN if you put 6 470uF tantalums back.
      For the remaining 10%, you need to replace two NEC/TOKINs with 12 tantalums.
      By doing so, I won't need to remove more than 2 NEC/TOKINs even if they all went bad. So it is simply a personal preference on whether you want to remove more NEC/TOKINs and put fewer tantalums back, or you want to remove fewer NEC/TOKINs and put more tantalums back.
      To me NEC/TOKINs removal is painful, so I prefer the latter one.

      If brand new NEC TOKINs are available, replacing it with another NEC TOKIN actually gives you the best result.
      The reason that we replace it with tantalum ones is that it is the second best replacement.
      If you are seeking the original performance, Felix actually designed this board to emulate the original NEC TOKINs by placing the tantalum caps in a specific order.

    Changing Tokin caps are not a permament fix, the gpu chip used in these devices is faulty manufacturing. There is enough information on this in research and forums. As a result of applying heat treatment to the motherboard while replacing the capacitors, the rsx chip also heats up and there occurs a temporary troubleshooting. I don't remember the exact value. But between positive and negative terminal, it should be a few ohms. And positive and positive (the outer two lines) should be 0 ohm.
