It’s no secret that we’re a bit in love with the Volkswagen ID. Buzz here at Electrifying.com. It’s a practical family car with a sense of fun and is beautifully designed. Add the big dose of nostalgia we feel whenever we get behind the wheel and you have one of the most engaging and fun electric cars on the market.
But even we will admit that it has limitations. Despite its vast size, buyers of the launch model have only been able to have five seats, while the 77kWh battery doesn’t exactly sit will with long distance hauls. But here is the version which seems to have the answers. It’s the Buzz with more bus - as it’s a longer, bigger, and faster seven-seater.
Perhaps most importantly - Volkswagen is FINALLY fixing the infotainment too!
The Buzz we are used to - which is now called the ‘normal’ wheel base - is 4,712 mm long. This Long wheelbase version measures an extra 250mm between the wheels.
That additional 250 mm is partly taken up by bigger doors 192 mm, and a little bit extra between the door and rear wheel. The bigger doors also have electrically sliding windows now too. The bigger Buzz can be used as a five-seater with a huge boot, a six-seater with individual seats and armrests in the second row of seats and as a seven-seater.
A three-seater bench seat is used as standard in this second row of seats. The backrests can be reclined by 16 degrees to make it more comfortable, and the bench can be moved forwards and backwards by 200 mm, either completely or in sections
In the five-seater configuration, the load up to the upper edge of the backrests results in a volume of 1,340 litres - about the same as a mid-size SUV with the seats folded down.
The long-wheelbase Buzz will be available with two battery sizes. The first is the 77kWh which we have already seen. But a new, bigger 85 kWh pack is also available, which comes with a more powerful 282 bhp motor. That improves the 0-62mph time by 2.3 seconds to 7.9 seconds.
And that's not all: an all-wheel drive version called the GTX will use two motors to give an output of 335 bhp will be coming later in 2024. That will have a GTI-like 6.4 second 0-62 time. The battery can be charged faster too, at up to 200 kW at a suitable DC charger, meaning a 10 to 80 percent top up takes 25 minutes. To speed things up even more, it features the Tesla-like "Plug & Charge" system which means the activation and billing is automatic, without the need for charging cards or apps.
There are no official range figures yet for this model and we have to be honest, the efficiency of the Buzz hasn’t been the best when we’ve had them. But there is a new heat pump to increase efficiency in colder weather.
Join Ginny as she takes a close look around the new Volkswagen ID. Buzz LWB ahead of its arrival in the UK next year. What do you think? Should this version been part of the range from the start? Do you think it’s still missing some features? As always, let us know in the comments below.

@@brunoheggli2888 I'd want it cheap because there is no reason it should be so damned expensive and like most people price matters. The ID Buzz normal version is mechanically almost identical to an ID.4, sharing the same platform and yet it's £20,000+ more for what reason? This is just ludicrously, piss takingly expensive and if VW want to gouge people then there is open opportunity for other manufacturers to sell a similar vehicle for a lot less money.

Headlights on some vehicles here in the US are downright dangerous. I wouldn't dare drive my wife's Jeep Cherokee at night, the headlights are about as good as strapping a couple of candles on the bumper. But the Daytime running lights and all other external lights are LED, go figure.

I love the Buzz, i hate the exorbitant price.
Early May, we went to Electricbrands in Eppertshausen where the Xbus is developed.
That one has more potential to be affordable for the masses, with a starting price of €18.000.
9 different models with a Cabrio, a Kipper and a Camper model with a range up to 600km and with solar panels standard. Probably will be build starting this year at VDL netcars in Netherlands.
Increasingly heavy, wastfull and obese EV's are not the way to the future. Lightweight is more common sense.

Why concentrate on making it quicker off the lights? People who buy a people carrier or campervan, just want to load it to the gunnels and get from A-B, and not be charging every 90mi. It’s a load carrier for goodness sake, not a track-day racer.
200ish miles and that would be in the baking Cali weather, with nothing inside other than a driver. What a buyer needs to know, is what it’ll cover fully loaded, on a non-Cali winter’s day. Reckon on halving any notional EPA stated range.

I'd like to see first what the aftermarket has planned. I'd like to see a jumpseat replacement for the center console. VW can't do it because airbag and seatbelt requirements, but there's no reason the aftermarket can't sell you one for "offroad" purposes only. Same for cargo. Want to see tie-down rails. Would have LOVED if they did a split tailgate so we could have hauled long stuff without losing our middle row or obstruction rear visability.

  • @parasharkchari
    @parasharkchari 9 месяцев назад

The EV9 is the pick if cargo capacity is more important (trunk space behind the 3rd row is double that of the Buzz. Buzz is the pick if passenger room is more important (sacrifices some cargo room for legroom and such), especially in the third row.
For me, that likely means I'd go with the Buzz, but realistically, I'd not be that likely to get either of them in the near future, so who knows? They might both be superseded before I'm in the market.

25cm longer ? Why not just fit a larger battery to the one already available ? You can fit a 230V inverter yourself easily to any car, 300W is only 1.3 Amps. After market inverters can output 2kw (2000W). Based on the Buzz available now at 3 miles per kw the 85 kwh battery will do 250 miles but not on a motorway. No prices for longer wheel base but it will be over £60k.

It’s almost an ideal car, two very important minuses: 1. range (actieradius) sucks, not even 300 km in real life. 2 not all the seats in the booth are removable. Fix that and I’ll have one tomorrow.

Scary 0-60 that should have went retro with the speed and kept it like the original 0-60 that was - eventually if your lucky. The middle row in all of these is wrong. The middle seat needs to fold independently. I had high hopes for this and the Kia ev9 but neither will work for me. We snowboard and ski and need a pass through that will take at least 2 boards and a set of skis.

    • @SusieSmart

Get the 6 seater version then 🤷‍♂️. I mean if you’re just gonna fold the middle seat anyway then clearly it’s not needed for someone to sit on.

Exactly it needs to be 3 seats independently moving with isofix the proposed layout is a retrograde step compared to the Sharan 7N. 3 seats in the rear are in valuable when you have more than 2 in isofix. Putting kids in row 3 in isofix is a pain.

I like the cat but it doesn’t seem as practical as the sharan. Why can’t this have three adult seats. It is like a normal car but a big one. Then this cost an arm and a leg.
