- The audio commentary track Matt Stone and Trey Parker did for the movie South Park: Bigger, longer and uncut.
Guest appearance by: Eric "Butters" Stough (animation director), Anne Garefino (producer), Adrien Beard (the art director, lead storyboarder and voice-actor) and friends Vernon Chatman (Producer, staff writerand voice actor) and Bill Hader (staff writer and voice-actor) who did not work with the movie, but work on South Park nowadays.
Recorded for DVD-release back in 2009.
It's crazy listening to these guys reminisce about the movie ten years after, because it's been another eleven years since this commentary. Jesus I feel old...
You're a fossil
I saw this in theatres ... I was in 5th grade
And I was nearly 10 when the movie came out. Full circle
Yup same
i was 8 or 9 when this movie came out and it changed our lives
I really love that they’ve stayed involved in South Park all these years instead of just letting other people write/direct it. I think it really shows how much they care about it :)
Yea they're the head writers, everyone else just helps them achieve what they want which is pretty awesome I think
...but they aren't the only ones who write the show...
They said that they have brought upon a lot of people to help with the show's writing, it's just that Trey's mostly credited for most of the episodes.
@@bombabombom3603 they have good ideas that they tell the writers to work them in certain scenes as there writing
That's Tegrity, man...
They did it for season 2. They regret it through.
"Do you mean to tell me....?"
"That's right, Jim!"
Lol. That's basically the most reoccurring joke scenario of their whole careers. I love them so much
I immediately think of the Aspen time share scenes haha
Then they try to leave and ended up in the same meeting in another room
Just hearing a line like "that's right Jim" is funny to me
I remember Kenny's face reveal was huge
I wish Matt and Trey knew that the paper cutout style is hugely nostalgic for many fans, and we love how the movie looks. It's a style all on its own, like stop motion. dont be embarrassed!
For real. I don’t know why the rip on it and the early seasons. The writing and humor style is still wayyyy better than the latest seasons. Which are just boring. I’m glad the old school fans agree. The movie is timeless and the music is one of the best musicals of the century IMO
@@oblongfan1 the stories felt like actual kids stories and not just Matt and Trey's opinion on current events...
@@whodatninja439 yeah, i feel ever since pam brady left as one of the writers the show changed. i think mainly after 2009 and when chef died thats when things really went downhill as far as humor and material. I get that theyre older now but doing Randy plots every special and seasons feels lazy. and they know they can do a lot more with the kids and even those one time side characters like mole, gregory, Damien , Pip etc.
You guys are all speaking my language.
I hate the more modern “Adobe flash” style they got now. The paper style was perfect. Gave it texture and made it look “good” mixed with the simplistic movement. The crudeness was ironically beautiful. It’s why seasons 1-3 is the best to me (that and the humor before “lol topical humor! Kardashins are bad! What a brilliant insight right? Randy smokes weeeeed!”
I don’t care what they say, this movie is probably the best movie based on a television show I’ve ever seen.
It’s either this or Beavis and Butthead Do America
@@Redhotshawntexas Bro watch the new beavis and butthead movie, It’s so fucking hilarious.
I remember going to see it when it came out. The place was packed and the whole place was roaring with laughter.
Yep same. Drove 2 hours with 3 friends. Tears.
My older brother got to watch the VHS, and I remember looking through the keyhole to his room to watch it
I went on a Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon a few weeks after the movie came out. I was in a room with less than 10 other people. But all of us were laughing at it.
Ann immediately respoonding "i wished every day that someone would fire me" got me
In the 2020 podcast era this is like a gem of a podcast with Trey and Matt where they go on tangents around the subject of the movie. Utter gold, ta muchly.
If Matt and Trey knew that they would be preforming South Park songs at a giant concert they would be soooo happy
….

Realizing that it’s been 14 years since this audio commentary was released blows my mind. We all sometimes forget how much energy doing something for 26 years takes. It’s pure insanity the amount of time they’ve spent on a stupid show. Truly such a blessing we have these guys.
This is exactly a Matt and Trey style of commentary. Love how genuine these guys are
I can't believe it took the MPAA a whole week to get the joke in the title. It took me 20 years!
I grew up thinking the title was ‘Bigger, Better and Uncut’ but it took until my Fiance and I saw it in theaters recently for the 25th anniversary to get the title

12:20 Columbine massacre
14:03 Star Wars

24:20 The Academy Awards
32:30 Eric Stough
37:25 Adrian Beard
42:15 Ann Garafino

Thank you !!
Matt hiding the trailer could be a whole South Park holiday special itself lol
I just listened to the whole thing, but I still think it's super rad of you to timestamp it, bro. ✌🏻
Well done!!!
Interesting for me to hear them talking about PG 13 or rated R movie.
In my country, South Park the TV show is just rated "Not adviced for people under the age of 10 years old",
While South Park the movie (and a couple of TV episodes) is rated "Forbidden for people who are less than 12 years old".
USA rating system seems so much tougher, and I can see that with how you rate horror movies too
"I won't name names, especially because I don't remember"
I love that Trey starts doing the Rob Schneider voice while talking about the movie.
I could listen to these guys talk all day. Everything coming out of their mouth is pure gold ^^
Same here! Found the commentary for each season on RUclips as well, just more of this check it out if you haven't already

I LOVE that clunky old crappy animation, it has that old school early show charm, I would NEVER change it
One of the greatest animated films of all time, adapted from one of the greatest, yet controversial, animated TV shows ever made.
And the longest running top grossing R-rated animated movie ever made since 1999...
...until that piece of shit Sausage Party beat it.
@@bombabombom3603 that's sad. The only musical movie I could ever stand and even love. They should do a new one :)
“Oh there’s chef” “he’s long gone” :(
29:45 their “Why is he gay?” “Why is he dead?” in unison made me smile
Me too lol
I actually remember the end of the episode that they are referring to here. I can't remember which episode it is but at the very end Saddam Hussein comes up to Satan goes oh you got here just in time me and Satan were just about to go shop for furniture. He then said something like come on baby and Satan goes okay honey and then they just walk off together and that took place before the movie so I know that's how they became a couple or that that's when they were first shown to be a couple but I don't remember when Saddam Hussein actually went to hell in the actual show
the mental image of 90s matt sticking the trailer in his car is so funny
I love the little break into scheming Cartman voice 12:57
I snuck into this movie (and Austin Powers 2), probably 10 times. I will never forget the lineup at the theatre that summer. It was a great year to be 14. I fell asleep during Episode 1
My mum took me and my brother with our 2 friends to cinema when it came out.
i watched it when i was like 8...
I was 14 too… didn’t get to see it in theaters unfortunately… we got denied entry to the theater but i did rent it that thanksgiving on vhs. And i remember the video store guy telling my dad that it had more iterations of “the F word” than Goodfellas. Luckily my dad had me watching R rated movies from a young age lol. And I felt like the boys in the theater watching it at home… “wowwww…. shit-faced cock master!” And I then immediately told all my friend you HAVE TO WATCH THIS TODAY. Art imitates life x 1,000. Those were the days.
@@raymondstantz3069 that's awesome. We actually got kicked out the first time we snuck into it, because of one loud friend. But, a few of us practically lived in that theater for that couple months
Imagine coming home and seeing your life’s work on TV
I remember a story Trey told about coming home from the office after a long shitty day and he just wanted to play video games and forget about work for a while cause they were working on a new season at the time and he was waiting for a game to load or something and a quick little ad popped up and it was like “A NEW SEASON OF SOUTH PARK IS COMING!” and he was like fuck, I just can’t get away from it. Puts it in perspective of what it must be like.
@@JoeSmith-dl9ok it said new Episode this week and it wasn’t even finished lol
Remember watching this in France in the theater. During the Kyle’s Mom song, I remember the theater erupting in laughter during the Chinese part, then going dead silent during the French part🤣
i think i saw this 4 times at the drive in when it came out. laughed every time. and i still laugh to this day. definition of classic
Damn there was drive ins in 1997? I was 7 years old. None on Long Island
53:13 You can tell she wants to say "Hey guys, did you talk about how you went to the Oscars tripping balls on acid" but she was like either too shy or not so sure about saying it LOL
Everytime I've ever heard or seen her, she just seems like the most chill friend to have ever.
I think they were trying to avoid mentioning it earlier as if they just went in dresses and nothing else, but then she dropped that bombshell on them.
Doesn't really matter anymore as its common knowledge they did.
This movie will forever be the hardest ive ever laughed in my life. I was begging the theater to stop the movies for a second
This will forever be one of my favorite movies. One of my earliest memories is watching this movie when I was 4, older brother 7, younger brother 1, sitting on the living room floor with my dad watching this movie on vhs while my mom gave him a death stare for letting us watch it.
They really need to do a podcast, this is amazing
21 years later, listening to them speak at 44:00, I just got the joke about the title.
Dude...
That tells me you probably missed a ton of jokes in the actual movie then.
@@avidadolares The movie was a comedy??!
This must be a lie
To be fair, it's a joke specifically against jews, so any assumption of it as such would seem like overreaching. It IS another self-referential inside gag, nobody could have really known.
This is honestly one of my favourite videos on youtube. It honestly feels like any youtuber reacting to their old stuff, except it's the creators of south park watching their movie with their friends and colleagues, joking about the movie and the oscars and everything else. Love this :D
It's so great to me how in the first 10 minutes they just confirm how everyone always tried to get their fingers in the South part pie and Matt and Trey just kinda were like "Um... no?"
And it came out better.
A true underdog sort of story in my opinion. To think those people sat them down at a meeting room and tried to explain to them the difference between PG-13 and above, sheesh.
I’ll always remember convincing my dad to take me to this movie in the 4th or 5th grade.. I was always allowed to watch rated R stuff but some things in the movie for the time were across that usual line.. I remember looking at him when Kenny gets rejected from heaven and he was laughing... and, when we walked out of the theater he turns to me and says, “I’m never taking you to the movies again.”
Im glad they describe what they thought back then, but I expected to see the commentary of what was happening in the movie when they watched it lol
@James Williams I mean, that’s what most audio commentary is, the director(s) talking about why things are the way they are in a film, although I do prefer this
@@NNiffy did you even listen to it? The reason they’re not talking about specific things in the movie is because they can’t remember all that much about it. They talk about it constantly!
@@JobForAMaxboy I know, I was just telling the James Guy that his comment was facetious at best
Terrance and Phillip's dueling fart solo might be the greatest moment in cinema history. It's that or watching the people in the cartoon get up and leave the theater, while in my theater, in real life, people are doing the same thing.
Robin williams singing blame canada will forever be a favorite of mine 😂
My favorite Oscar's performance, hands down.
Thanks for uploading this! I watched it a few years ago, and then couldn’t find it again. You’re a champion!
Do Blu-rays not exist where you live?
I’d rather type in a few words on RUclips and listen to it through that platform than playing a DVD or Blu Ray just for the commentary..
@@AC26875 I mean, laziness, am I right? Besides, commentary is to be played while watching the film. Listening to it without watching it is pointless. It's like listening to a film without the moving pictures. Why bother? It's baseless and without context.
@@NightwingReturns Yeah I admit, it’s laziness. However, if it’s pointless, then why did you click on this RUclips video? Surely many of the viewers disagree with you as well, otherwise this video wouldn’t have as many views. I’ve seen the film plenty of times to recognise what scene Trey and Matt are talking about. Also, they spend half of the duration talking about context of the film, rather than specific scenes. Stop being a John Edward douche.
thank you so much dude, i once spend like an hour finding it,
Omg, I never realized the title was a dick joke. That's hilarious, and I am so dumb 😂
Really, because that was my first thought when I saw it. Didn't know that they were saying "fuck you" to the MPAA though. Thought they were just being nasty.
when I was younger I thought, "wow that's such a deep insightful title for a movie"
I love how even there dvd commentary is hilarious and random whilst barely even talking about the film they're supposed to be commentating on 😂
I actually watched the movie while hearing this at the same time, really amazing!
Matt and Trey: “Yeah, but the animations all crappy”
Feels like they say that all the time haha
Haha, in-movie joke too.
FOR SOME REASON I HAVEN´T GOT THE AUDIO COMMENTARY IN MY DVD OF THE MOVIE, SO THANKS A LOT FOR UPLOADING THIS.
Matt and Trey write so much of their self awareness into southpark, the way they dive into issues, tell all sides and make sure everyone walks away remembering their shit stinks. I love how they talk about all the meetings with execs, like they just sit there in disbelief. A lot of so-called edgy creators talk about how they walk out of those meetings, talk trash about the execs, but Matt and Trey are like "yeah, we sat through those meetings, we listened and it was so surreal but we just did what we want to do." But the magic is they didn't burn bridges with the execs so automatically, they sat through it, they listened, so the execs probably FELT heard and so it was incidentally easier for Matt and Trey to get their own way because the execs probably thought "well, they listened, we tried, let's see what happens" rather than "they're too difficult, we don't want to work with them, the liability is too big". Brilliant
Still the most laughs per minute than any movie EVER imo
THANK YOU SO MUCH, i literally was trying so hard to find this commentary....

I remember watching this movie a lot when I was younger since I had older cousins and they had the movie on DVD (this was around 2007, I was eight at the time), and after listening to this I realized I forgot about 90% of the movie. What really stuck to me was the Mr. Garrison bit, the Mr. Mackey song, and the whole thing with Saddam Hussein. Everything else I had completely forgotten was even in the movie.
You’re awesome, thanks for the upload🙏🏻
Mr Mackey and the trailer guy are just Trey's impressions of everyone
Holy shit these dudes are geniuses, they just fuck around a lot and stuff pops into their head and they don’t give enough fucks so they put it on TV and it’s a smash hit. I love this type of stuff. One of the best shows in tv history
8:13, I thought for sure there was going to be an "Mmkay?" thrown in there, lol. This is interesting to listen to, and it is making me reminisce as well. My cousins and I were all between 11-13 when the movie came out, and we were blown away by it because you got to hear the swears sans beeping. The commentary’s as entertaining as the movie because Trey and Matt are really hilarious. Their involvement has kept South Park fresh. Their ability to create heartfelt stories (like Kenny, Craig and Tweek, Butters), use of music and biting satire make this show special.
Screw the Academy Awards!
