- South Park co-creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone discuss the show's 25th anniversary, how "political correctness" has flipped since the 90s, and that time Doug Herzog almost didn't let them kill Kenny. This aired 2023-02-22 on ”Basic! When Cable Was Cool” with Doug Herzog and Jen Chaney.
The Imaginationland trilogy will never ever get old to me.
its really a wonderful work of art
so good!
Thank you for backing this up, much appreciated
Absolutely love these guys. They’ve given us so much.
Truly, i feel like there won't be another 2 dudes like this we're lucky were alive at the same time!
Defintely, what's even more admirable is that you never see em on mainstream or popular sources/podcasts, they must like to help out the up n comers if I'm not mistaken.
They are the best :)
They SOLD us so much.
Awesome guests thank you for sharing with us! What a great conversation great job.
@C R it says 25th anniversary. But,wouldnt it be 26th anniversary? Wasn't this recorded this year
@@paulsmith9192 rip, guess this guy just reposting
This is so beautiful. Two small town guys believing in themselves, despite so much doubt and nay-sayers, making it, and paving a completely new road for all to follow.
Love is the best bond. They're such a remarkable gay power couple!
Thats a bonus. Im glad they’re still friends.
Unlike duos like Opie & Anthony who paved the road for Joe Rogan styled podcasts before podcasts.
@@nr655321They ain't gay, and neither are Cartman and Kyle. Matt loves him some dark meat.
They feed into each others’ intelligence so well because they both are on the same level of awareness of the world.
I have fond childhood memories of Southpark and Casa Bonita. I’m so thrilled that people of this caliber and means took that restaurant over. I hope these guys live long and prosper.
Thank you for nearly 30 years of laughs!
The day they have their final season which will suck they should have the boys be in college making an animated TV Christmas card for a project 😅
Jus totally down shift gears n be a true to life ending 😂
@@DACorderoArt they kinda already did that so they probably won’t do it again . s4e17
Simpsons did it!! Simpsons Did it!!!
There's really only one way South Park can end. Everyone must die at the hands of Kenny, in a school shooting, before Kenny turns the gun on himself.
The episode begins with...
EXT, Day: In front of South Park High School
The gang, (looking like high school students, but still no taller than they have been since the start of the series) is standing in front of the school in the AM. Cartman, sporting a mullet, wearing a Lee Greenwood T-shirt, and a dorky, dangling earring, is complaining about yet another upcoming school shooter awareness assembly, this one titled, "How to Turn in Your Friends Before They Have a Chance to Steal Their Dad's an Assault Rifle and Kill All the Popular Kids."
He's sick of being forced to participate in school shooter drills and assemblies about school shootings.
Cartman: "This sucks, man. So what if Kenny shoots a bunch of cheerleaders? Why should I have to sacrifice my fourth period paper football playoff game."
Kyle: "Quit picking on Kenny. He doesn't..."
Cartman (cutting off Kyle): "Shut your butthole, Kyle. I'm two wins away from become the South Park paper football champion of the universe."
Bell rings
The school's focus on school shooter safety causes Cartman to become obsessed with setting Kenny up to seem like he's making plans to carry out a school shooting. Kenny keeps getting turned in by other students who find various bits of evidence (e.g. violent drawings, manifestos, "how to do a mass shooting" search histories, etc.) planted around the school by Cartman.
Finally, Kenny has had enough. Cartman's hijinks drive him over the edge. He shows up at school with an AR15 and opens fire, making South Park HS looks like a Tarantino film.
Everyone dies.
Everyone goes to heaven where Kenny is greeted by Kleibold and Harris, gets a winged trench coat and joins their after-school mass shooter club (which meets after school every Wednesday), because he needs an extra-curricular activity for his college application.
Kenny runs to the mailbox every day, hoping this is the day his college acceptance letter will arrive.
On the day it arrives, he pulls it out of the mailbox, tears open the envelope, immediately gets stabbed through the back of his skull by Susan Atkins, and dies, again, before we can find out if he's been accepted into film school at CU Boulder.
Cut to Eusan Atkins, who wipes the bloody blade clean on her Trump for President 2032 T-shirt.
Fade to black.

Two brilliant minds who can speak on world/political views through vulgarity and toilet humor yet send well thought out messages that speak well on common issues/debates of society/government ideologies. Matt and Trey are two of the most well grounded intelligent comedians to exist next to Carlin
Not trying to be bias by starstruck views of them they just honestly understand the world more than most would dream of they are blessed minds for sure.
Agreed, and very well put. I think they're heroes.
I love how incredibly hard these guys work. From loving their movies, The Book of Mormon, South Park (my favorite show), and the South Park games, they have brought so much entertainment to my life. I love them!
Matt sounds just like Kyle and his dad but trey just sounds like trey , shows you the range he has as a voice actor
Trey sounds almost exactly like Randy

National treasures. It's going to be a sad day when they end the show. The way they blen current culture, trends, news and how ridiculous this American freak show really can be. You can almost pick a few random episodes and guess when it was made just by the shots they take about what was relevant in the culture at the time. Lastly. They are rich AF. They don't need to do the show. They do it because they are messengers. I would say as crazy as it sounds but south park is the most culturally relevant show on TV.
These guys are total comic and satire geniuses
Hearing them talk about the first 6…which is exactly how the newest season is
I still watch I love Lucy reruns with my grandma!
Pair of legends great work many thanks xx
Imagine working with these pair it'd be the funniest time of your life.
I remember watching Team America for the first time, and I just assumed that they'd somehow CGI'd it all with fake strings etc, and the big joke was that it like it had been made with real puppets/sets, but it was on such a grand scale with such elaborate set pieces, that no way in hell could it ever get made that way ... ... ... and then someone told me, and my jaw went through the friggin floor... "Stop trying to hit me and hit me!".
Maybe one day we'll get a season with more than 6 episodes soon!
Rare for them to do interviews and podcasts
@TheGoodson wouldn't it be the 26th anniversary? Wasn't this recorded this year?how did u get them?they rarely do interviews
Life never fails to imitate South Park & Team America is the greatest film ever imo, if you agree give the secret signal🤷🤷♀️🤷♂️
Here - you'd better have this 🔨
👌👌👌 oh wait that’s the wrong signal lmao
I hope they release that election night footage soon.
Thx for the upload, i would not have watch it otherwise :)
Was this podcast also using a C/KU band satellite dish?
I wish they'd go on a show like JRE. These podcasts they choose to do literally have them just talking about the same shit they've been talking about since the 2000s. Do an AMA or a different podcast and get new questions pls guys
Omg i would love that! How the hell has this not happened already? Someone email Jamie damnit!
Fvkc Joe Rogan. Dude's a shill.
thanks!!
I think it's likely that these guys, or at least Trey, have Adhd. Literally just described hyperfocus in how they make their episodes in 6 days.
It's possible. In another doco Trey talks about chugging speed (pseudoephedrine) during production to stay awake.
They played Gillian’s island on fox local channel here in Cali in the mornings all through out the 90’s I used to watch that shit. I was born in the early 80’s
Gilligans island and mash
@@BlastinRope mash was at 11am
@@BlastinRope they’d play Lucy at 9am til 10 cause then I flip over to Bob barker and watch the price is right lmao
The idea that the everybody involved in the Daily Show was crying in 2016 is funnier than anything they have put on TV in at least a decade.
Is there an interview on RUclips with these guys talking about something other than how they started up??
Liebling, Katz, Herzog. Some real diversity there...
Team America worked as satire because it accurately reflected the blind patriotism and machismo of the action movies of its time. I don't think a sequel would work today because Hollywood don't make films anymore that have even the slightest hint of national pride.
I can't wait to see their take on their new woke culture southpark movie. It must be so good if Disney is going to be offended by it and willing to sue trey and Matt. 😅
I wonder if Matt ever saw the Jm J &Tammie Faye
Dude goodson u always find the greatest hidden gem commentary this is awesome
one night at 3am my friends and i in 99 or 2000 ended up at gold base on shrooms but we didnt know we were at gold base....and we saw were they dumped all the battle field earth sets stuff behind the golf course parking lot
Kinda sucks tbh. I always get excited for a new interview but then I hear "so it takes you a week to..." and I check out
So true
Exactly. All their interviews are the exact same. I so badly wish some South Park fan youtuber would get to interview them like Johnny2Cellos or something
That’s true, but if you haven’t listened to the rest I would encourage you to. Doug was a major executive at Comedy Central for the first few years South Park was on, and they get into some “inside baseball” stories further into the podcast.
@@EggPlanet492boring stuff tbh
If you're a low IQ person @@purpleperc1012
This picture makes it look like they have hepatitis.
I think you mean it's flipped from the right wing to the left wing censoring.
They barely talked the new stuff, nothing on the paramount specials. they mostly talked about stuff,we already knew
Tbf there's nothing interesting about modern South Park, it only exists now just because. The whole schtick now is "depict current thing then move on to next thing", it has nothing to say and the episodes/specials barely have a shelf life. One of the great things about South Park in its prime was yes, it poked fun at current trends and events when it wanted to, but those old episodes are still so timeless.
@@dvda9725true.
Seasons 1 - 10 are so solid. They hold up really well over time.
@@spiritlevelstudios Exactly. Take the episode Manbearpig for example, obviously it was poking fun at the ex vice president, but it was used as a vehicle for another adventure for the 4 main characters. If that episode was made now it would just depict him saying what he actually believes in real life (instead of having it be an exaggerated joke like a monster called Manbearpig) and it would be all about that and who Al Gore is as a person, and the 4 boys would probably make a brief appearance at best, probably separately.
You're right about seasons 1 through 10 being excellent, after that there were some really solid hilarious episodes for sure, but each season got more miss and less hit every year. The show really took a nosedive around season 18 and has been utterly awful ever since, and I hate how its whole identity has become "take a current thing and take a fence-sitting stance on it but also make fun of it." I also hate how the fanbase has gone from shock jock/Jackass types to a bunch of Reddit pseudo-intellectuals who think SP is the most genius, perfect piece of political satire ever, you can tell Matt & Trey have started to believe it too.
@@dvda9725 yeppers.
Feels similar to Terminator l and ll fans denying any of the sequels exist 😅
There's something very respectable about shows like Seinfeld and Flight Of The Conchords having a good run and then dipping out.
I think that exclusive deals like SP moving to Paramount and JRE moving to Spotify are a good sign that the course has been run, and long time fans need to accept that it's over.
The motivator at that point is obviously money, but for no obvious reason. No one needs that much on top of what they already have.
They should do Book of Mormon with marionettes
"we painfully figured out the profit Muhammad episode"
Yeah by becoming the most censored South Park episode in history and never airing again 🤣
What the hell is a basic
This wouldve done way better if you guys actually had video footage and not just audio.
Why is he so drunk in that picture?

screw these guys im going home
How are they not talking about how poor of a president we have this season ? Hippocrates
Because it’s hack asf to bring up the obvious. Not funny everyone is doing it. These guys aren’t hacks.

Love Trey but gotta disagree with him when he's saying it's liberals who want to cancel things now. He'd have to hear what's going on in Florida.
Na that wasn't really his point, he was just pointing out that now it is liberal ideas which are more dominant in society, and it is more controversial to disagree with them (at least amongst people who are vocal about politics). Which is true.
Yeah. Liberals may get uppity, but conservatives try to make everything illegal.
Are you saying liberals aren’t canceling things?
@@KingSlimjeezy Compared to conservatives? They literally cancelled math books in some states for being "woke".
What?!!! Oh come on. Look at the rest of the country. It’s all liberals censoring free speech, them and the small group that runs things that shall not be named 😉

Are you guys afraid of the Bidens because you have him in as president for 2 1/2 years and you could have none stop laughter for 5 years, get with it, fellas, your bottoming out
I think the reason they don't make fun of Biden is because he's kinda boring.. but with trump he was spouting ridiculousness every single day.
There are big mouths and there are fools Biden falls in with the fools, i laugh hard at fools @@Biggcatx
@@BiggcatxOh cut it out, you inept dweeb. Biden is a child-touching dementia patient, every time he speaks or even moves he unintentionally creates comedic gold, if Trey and Matt still had their balls they'd bank off it immediately. Also, name one ridiculous thing Trump said.
