- Hello lovelies, today I will be discussing the best selling nail polishes of all time.
Nail polish originated in China and dated back to 3000 BC. Around 600 BC, during the Zhou dynasty, the royal house preferred the colors gold and silver. However, red and black eventually replaced these metallic colors as royal favorites. During the Ming dynasty, nail polish was often made from a mixture that included beeswax, egg whites, gelatin, vegetable dyes, and gum arabic.
In Egypt, the lower classes wore pale colors, whereas high society painted their nails reddish brown with henna. Mummified pharaohs also had their nails painted with henna. The colored nail polish did not make an appearance until the 1920s. Early nail polish formulas were created using basic ingredients such as lavender oil, Carmine, oxide tin, and bergamot oil. It was more common to polish nails with tinted powders and creams, finishing off by buffing the nail until left shiny. One type of polishing product sold around this time was Graf's Hyglo nail polish paste.
Nail polish in the Western world was more frequently worn by women, going in and out of acceptability depending upon moral customs of the day. In Victorian-era culture, it was generally considered improper for women to adorn themselves with either makeup or nail coloring since natural appearances were considered more chaste and pure. In the 1920s, however, women began to wear color in new makeup and nail products, partly in rebellion to such prim customs of their recent past. Since the 1920s, nail colors progressed from French manicures and standard reds to various palettes of color choices, usually coordinated with the fashion industry's clothing colors for the season. By the 1940s, the whole nail was painted; before that, it was fashionable to leave the tips and a half-moon on the nail bed bare.

As a nail junkie this makes me so happy. Also laura please consider making frosty lipsticks or lip glosses in your line. My mom who was born in 1956 wore exclusively frosted lipstick in a peachy pink hue (it was from maybelline and was called peachy scene and was discontinued about 4 or 5 years ago) and I prefer frost finishes too because of how pretty they are. It was also a big thing in the 1970s and 1980s when my mom was young. Anyway love you and God bless.
My sister was born around that time. Our aunt wore pink frosty and was born in 1945. My sister's favourite was rimmel Heather shimmer lipstick and still made today!

I've always loved Essie shades for lighter/pastel colours but I'm really drawn to the Dior 999 as well as the Revlon Cherries in the Snow.

Natalie Sarvey I’ve worn black nail polish for over a decade and understand what you mean about feeling “naked”. There’s an Australian brand call Kesterblack that make breathable nail polishes. They also make breathable base and top coats. All their products are free of the really nasty chemicals. Since switching my nails are stronger and don’t go yellow. I suggest everyone find a brand in their country that makes breathable also known as water permeable polishes.

Nails don't need to breathe. They're actually dead tissue, once they've grown past the cuticle.
I had Lincoln Park After Dark and loved it in high school. I currently have Expresso (the perfect pink mauve for me) and my mom has Bubble Bath, which is her favorite.
I have cajun shrimp - lovely colour. I'm going to hunt out espresso by Sally Hanson. Enjoyed the concept of video 👍

My favorite red polish of all time was “Well Red” by Essie. They discontinued it some years ago, and I haven’t found anything to match it yet. I loved it so much that I couldn’t bear to throw out the bottle when it was done. *sigh* The two reds I like how are “Very Cranberry” by Essie (raspberry-ish), and “Seduce Me” by China Glaze (like a darker version of “Very Cranberry”.)

Vintage nail polish bottle question: On the cap of old stock Revlon bottles there is that removable (?) white object. What is it? A tool of some sort? A couple of bottles once owned by Frida Kahlo were actually in a museum exhibition awhile back, and it caught my interest. Incidentally, Frida wore Revlon Frosted Snow Pink and Frosted Pink Lightening (both discontinued). Thanks!

Nail tips ! Try filing the acrylic nails thin to natural nail thinness for a natural look because acrylic nail is thicker than natural nails

Rouge Noir is the name of the class of polish...that Pulp Fiction color was called VAMP. By Chanel
I use Revlon Red and Expresso quite often. My favorite to use is called "Blushing Bride" and I believe it is from Sally Hansen. It's a lovely shimmer rose pink and hardly chips.

Are there really so many ladies who wear black polish? I know it was a trend in recent years, but I didn't think it was so widely popular. 🤔 I'm also surprised there aren't more red and pink shades on this list, since those have been the most popular in my perception.
Im shocked there aren't many nude colours . Every time I ask a mail technician what the most popular nail colours are they say nude followed by reds .

I have no idea why, but I find Cajun Caviar such an odd name for a nail polish.
I really want to wear colour on my nails but I have this stupid habit of always picking on my cuticles which is why I think my hands look awful and I don’t want to draw further attention to them by wearing polish. I try to keep me from doing it by wearing gloves most of the time but it’s really difficult to stop. If anyone has any tips how to stop habits like this, I’d really appreciate that.
Try redoing or touching up your nails every time you pick at them. Eventually you’ll be so tired of retouching them it’ll be motivation to stop! :)
Hannah Sonnenburg my sister-in-law had the same issue, she would pick until she was bleeding. Painting her nails is what helped, she didn’t want to ruin the nice manicure.
Constantly apply cuticle oil. Eventually, there will be nothing to pick.
Try wairing a clear polish, not fore buty, but to remind you not to pick. When you go to pick you will be able to feel the polish, if not see it faintly shining: their for reminding you of your gole of wairing colored nail polish. When you’ve gone a week without picking move on to a colored nail polish!
