- Today we are going to the nail salon! I'm going to show my favorite manicures from the 1930's through 1950's. I typically get my nails done at a salon rather than painting them myself, but you can definitely do these manicures at home using nail polish. Hope you enjoy this little video on my vintage manicures!

Laci thank you so much for being a breath of fresh air in this very crazy hateful world right now. Also thank you for loving kitties and especially for having a black Kitty. Same. If I filed my nails in that stiletto fashion, they would break off immediately. Love from Ohio.
Ahh thank you! Yes black kitties are so special. The hard gel keeps them very strong so they don’t break.
"Cherries in the Snow"! LOVE it, and have for YEARS. It's one of the best colors I have found, and blends with my wardrobe color palette plus works real well with "matchy-matchy". I would do my own acrylics [left hand obviously better than my right], but have opted for just a clear coat for years, now. I did FINALLY get out for a pedicure, and skipped the clear; went for bright purple! It gave me a lift in my spirit, and really freaked out my family [gotta keep them on their "toes"]. Thank you, Laci Fay!! 💖😎

It’s really the small details that make you feel girly. Having your nails done is the best! Did your grandma always have her nails painted?
Yes I agree. Ahh yes. My grandma always painted her own nails. She usually did them once a week. I used to love looking through her nail polish and picking one. She would paint mine and we would always crack up laughing because she would miss the strip of nail on the sides lol.

Those nails are so cute!!! How did you start your RUclips channel? I have a huge vintage and antique collection. My room is based off 1910-40s bedrooms and I would like to start a channel. I’m 15 so I don’t really know how I would pull this off. Do you have any advice.
Thanks so much! Oh awesome. I just started filming videos with my iPhone! I say just go for it. There is also editing apps available either free or inexpensive. You just need a computer to upload.
My daughter got my 1960's bedroom set, it's French Proventil and she loves it. I had to go with a King set when I married so she got the full French set for a guest bedroom. She loves it. It's solid wood and older than I am and I was born in 1960. Those styles never go out of style. The modern things age badly.
I've always noticed how gorgeous your nails were in every video! This was so cool because I didn't realize that these were authentic styles, I thought they were an interpretation. The blank crescent 40's style is ingenious , it reminded me of the way women would paint a stripe up the back of their leg to make it look like stockings during WWII. We are an innovative and resourceful lot!

Oh thank you! Haha yep! The 1940’s one is great. You can’t tell at all that your nails are grown out.

I use to get my nails done professionally, that was the one thing I enjoyed doing for ME, but now I homebound disabled and can not get out to the salon and it is EXTREMELY expensive to have someone come to your home for that. So I guess I will now just enjoy yours.
I LOVE the thumb nail with the dot (yes it is called a Dotting tool). It makes me think of the cars in the '50's with the chrome by the tail light and the Dot is the tail light.
Very cool! When I was a teenager 40+ years ago I would try to give myself the 1940s moon manicure. It didn’t occur to me to but a little brush to make it easier! I ended up using a lot of qtips

What’s funny is I remember being 5 years old in the mid 70’s and my mom used to get her nails done and she would have that half moon style by the cuticle done all the time. She even had my nails done once that way. Styles come back all the time. Now I’m inspired to have it done this way too. Lacy, you’re bringing it back again in 2020! 😃

I grew up with women painting their nails various shades of red with oval shaped nails.
That was super interesting. I like how you had the ads showing the nail polish styles. I always do my own nails. Just polish...but this made me want to have them done professionally. Pass on my compliments to Paisley for a job well done. Great video and take care 🇨🇦 ❤️

I think the way the thumb nails were painted is the way you should do the whole hand it's beautiful.

I MUCH prefer the more feminine vintage nail shapes of a modest length (especially oval or almond) from the 1940s over the squared long nails (1990s). As I am a gardener, I keep my nails short.

Dorian Leigh is the model in the "Fire and Ice" Revlon ad @2:20 (also read that she did the "Cherries in the Snow" ad also...but a different version than the one you showed). Her Wikipedia page mentioned these ads and how the silver dress she wears in "Fire and Ice" is only the front half of the dress! She was Revlon's "IT" girl for their ads in the 40's. Super interesting reading...you should check it out Laci! I had to come back and comment, since I just watched this and then I happened upon her Wiki page....so ironic!!!

Your blue/white/lavender striped shirt dress is lovely! Does it have a super-full, slightly shorter skirt? I've seen that stripe pattern on dresses from 1960-62, and the skirts were little bell skirts. So sophisticated, yet also cute.
So do you shape your nails yourself? I've been letting my nails grow but I'm kind of new at really cleaning them up. Is rounding them out a typical 40s shape nail? I'd love to go get my nails done half moon style 40s but don't know if they need to know how to do it?

I saw the half moon on the bottom of the nail on a saks catalog 3 years ago. I could not find a manicurist that knew how to do it. I love the look with short nails, so chic. Vintage is always better.

Thanks I was looking for a vintage nail design! And my grandma has been collecting vintage adds for years she has a big box of them and we like to go through them every once in a while. I'm actually changing my style to the 50s, i went to a thrift store and luckily found lots if vintage in my size! Thank you for showing me vintage clothes and giving thrifting tips.

What decade did the "lips should match your tips" come out in, I see it all over in your ads. Fidnt anyone use any other color besides pink or red shades?

The bottom half moon I have the manicurist leave it natural meaning no polish instead of white
Can I just tell you that she is going too heavy on the gel color not the white she is taking red off and it is popping up on the paper towel it shouldn't be that means the color is too thick.

A lot of women wore red lipstick red nail polish, clothes etc here in the states. It was rumored that Hitler hated the color red, so it was a kind of kiss my rosy red rear to him.

I think nail varnish and lip stick wasn't rationed during the war, just hard to obtain. In the UK anyway. Lovely nails. 😊

I first learned about Cherries in the Snow lipstick in 2015 when reading "The Truth about Twinkie Pie" by Kat Yeh. It's a young adult book and the girls' mother always wore Cherries in the Snow lipstick. There is a plot twist. enjoy!

You might be a little disappointed lol. I’m actually pretty sensitive to smells, and I can’t do many kinds of perfume because of that. I usually just smell like peppermint essential oil 😬
Those are such pretty manicure looks! I've been wanting to do my nails all summer, but I've been working on a dress made of white silk covered in thousands of hotfix rhinestones, and heat tends to make nail polish color transfer to fabric, so I can't do my nails until I finish that project. ☹️

I mentioned this in a previous comment... I saw a picture of my mom from the 1940's and she had her nails polished this way. I'm sure she would have done it herself, however, it looks like she just polished the center of the nail and left the cuticle and tip unpainted.
Tiffany Smedley back in the day they didn’t use white polish, the nail was simply left unpainted. They would wipe the polish off the edge to help the polish last longer without chipping. The crescent shape was to help disguise regrowth.
