    I like the beats and the fills he throws in as he gets faster. I'm sure it's in part an endurance saver but it makes the beats a bit more interesting than just non stop blasting. I could also see in the 31p one he switched hands probably for the same reason. Very smart, extremely impressive

    Spectacular, entertaining and funny (at the end). I felt that the accenting and dynamics were clearer and more interesting/creative the faster you went. Although I don't think faster is better - 300 bpm sounded just right in terms of accuracy, precision & feel.

    • @wanjanechtangroeger
      @wanjanechtangroeger  6 лет назад +19

      Thanks! Your speed depends on several factors and when you hit a limit there are several possibilities:
      - Maybe you just have to practise more.
      - Maybe you have to practise differently. If you normally just jam along to songs, you can try a more systematic approach, practising straight blast beats with stopwatch and metronome for example. Or if you always focus on stamina try playing shorter bursts, focussing more on speed. Or if you are focussing too much on speed alone, try some more stamina practise to make your playing more efficient.
      - Maybe you have a playing technique that is limiting you. For example when you play double bass only with full leg motion it will be very hard to get faster than 200-220bpm. I don't know what your blasting technique looks like but maybe you could try to play more relaxed or use more finger movement instead of arm or wrist movement.

      LLoydLimoDriver oh thanks :). Kind of dormant at the mo but if I get enough interest I’ll up it.
      220 bpm with some power is about as good as anyone gets before incorporating your fingers.
      Someone like Buddy Rich stretched this rule through phenomenal amounts of development on and off stage. To be honest though, the fastest I’ve seen him play on video is about 240bpm semiquavers/16ths. Sometimes only 225. He was blending fingers with wrist as well. Bit of both.
      The thing about buddy though is how much power he was developing at these speeds. So I shouldn’t say ‘only’. At those speeds the power/speed combination is just about as good as it gets.
      The faster you go, the more you rely on fingers. Most players will top out at 210-225bpm wrists only and 220-250 with fingers.
      Just practise moving the stick only with finger power. Try short bursts of three or four strokes.

      Depends on whether or not there are issues with other areas of your playing (e.g technique), and how bad these issues are, if any; sometimes when beginners don't address other aspects of their playing and focus too much on speed, their playing & development can suffer in the long run.
      But yeah that's not slow, especially for a neophyte!
