To be honest, I have drove every truck imaginable and the XLT is honestly tame in price compared to chevys or GMC’s. His was only that expensive because he got the heritage edition, the glossy black rims, the moon roof and a few other features probably. My f-150 matches the one in the video (even looks better interior wise imo (tan interior with different style seats)), minus some of the pointless features like the “heritage edition” and it was $61k. A brand new big horn (which is the same weight class in terms of features as the xlt) is 60k. A platinum f-150 is (you guessed it) 84k and the limiteds are typically the same price point. I should add that bighorns can also have features stacked on to take them up to the 70k mark.

I moved over from Ford to Ram and couldn't be happier. I got a great deal and the Ram sales guy even let me take it to a Ford dealership 40 miles away to compare the two vehicles side by side. When I returned the Ram, I found myself not wanting to get out which speaks to the much superior ride of the Ram (which I don't believe was discussed?) So for 10k more your'e' getting the best interior in the market, and one hell of a smooth ride. That 8-speed tranny is so smooth and the HEMI noise that big V-8 produces beats the snot out of a twin turbo V-6. All that for me, is what makes the Ram worth it. I was a bit shocked the XLT came in @ 68K.

Interesting comparison. Every time I see the new pricing on these trucks I feel fortunate buying a new truck in 2020 for 36k after discounts and rebates. Though I do think in the not too distant future you’ll start to see substantial rebates and incentives as demand slows and supply increases. Either way I’m keeping my 2020 for a minimum of 10 years. Great job reviewing two different trucks with two totally different packages. Problem is, if you take a RAM Big Horn/Lone Star which is more comparable to the Ford XLT and spec it to the Ford you had, the Ram was about $8k less than the Ford. On the other hand, if you go up to a Ford Lariat, which is more comparable to a Ram Limited, the Ford is about $6k more than the RAM. Not saying anything about these trucks, as both are very capable, it's just not an apples to apples comparison.

I know you say you don’t see the difference of 10k in the interior. But just adding in the options or upping the trim levels in a ford gets you way way over the rams price. Leather, cooled seats in both rows, upgraded stereo, rear view mirror camera etc. just adding those in to an xlt would make it equal in price. Add in the auto running boards , 22in wheels etc. and you’d easily eclipse 78.
A ford limited trim starts at 84k. And when you option it similarly (doesn’t have many to choose from) you’re now at 89k.
Neither truck is cheap. But the Rams value is still there. I shopped all the big 3 and got my 1500 limited with some specific options. - color matched bumpers , 3.92 with limited slip, 33 gallon tank. And msrp’d at 67k. With discounts and rebates my out the door was 57k before my trade in. Again a ton for a truck but for that price I’d be in a low spec xlt or xle gm twin. The XLT would be same level as a Big Horn trim. Limited would be comparable to Platinum.
I agree with the insane costs of these things.. The problem is, if you want a certain feature, you have to buy an expensive group of features.
Example, in the Ram, if you want the interior to be 1 color and not a tan headliner, you have to spend thousands more to get the Night edition or the Sport edition.
It's too bad you didn't go through the features of the Ram.. Heated steering wheel, Heated and Vented front and rear seats with that trim level. Reclining rear seats, etc..
I went with a Laramie trim because that's the lowest trim level I could get seat memory and vented seats. You get used to the dial, and the fact there is no shifter in the center console makes a TON of storage in that center console. Love the Ram I picked up,, but absolutely agree the pricing is getting out of hand.

For older folks, the power steps are great. They go much lower than the typical fixed step and then tuck away and look much cleaner. Mine have a bypass switch so they can be lowered in a car wash or they can be fixed so they don't automatically lower - great for off-roading. You're not a fan now because you're still young! Also, no mention of Ford's aluminum body panels. My 2018 F150 has only 4 Iowa winters under its belt and I think the aluminum will pay off in body panel longevity. We'll see. The whole "it's not steel so it's weaker" claim may be true if you're tossing engine blocks into the bed. For the vast majority of F150 owners, that's not the case. So far, the aluminum body has proven to be quieter and perfect for my use.

$60k+ then a dealer might add a market adjustment price of $10k-$20k on top of that. So then they're financing a $60k truck for $70k-$80k and loan terms for 5-8 years at higher interest rates than in the past. It seems like it's hard to find anything new for just the MSRP price. Then when the person decides they want to try and trade it 2-4 years later for financial reasons or just wants something cheaper or newer. The dealer looks at the MSRP for what the vehicle is said to be worth at it's current age and says, well... It's worth $40k, but you still owe $50k-$65k on it. We can't give you what you still owe on it. Then what's a person to do, roll all that extra upsidedown money into another vehicle or just keep it and keep paying for the next 3-5 years.

I just checked my local dealer they are offering $7k off MSRP on all the F150's in their inventory. My own opinion, RAM is dropping the HEMI, whenever a company does that they eventually stop making replacement parts for them, I'd bet within 5 years RAM does that, no matter what the are claiming now. This is especially true for their mild hybrid system. Getting good engine parts from a third party supplier for the engine likely will be possible for quite some time but mild hybrid parts for a low-run part to begin with? forget about it. Also - wheels bigger than 19" don't belong on a 4x4 truck.

What many people don't understand with a lot of upgrades you often spend less when purchasing the more expensive model than purchasing the cheaper one and adding the equipment that is standard on the more luxury model. I used to buy XLT model trucks. The last two trucks I have bought were Lariats that have a higher base price but are cheaper with the options I want than getting those options on an XLT. Sometimes you do have to get more than you think you want with packages but you often like what you get when you get to using them. And hey, what is an extra $10 or even $20 per month. If you find a truck that has been on the lot for over 45 days sometimes, they are discounted as well. At least my trucks were making purchases a truck on the lot with more than you wanted on a truck a better deal than ordering one with less on it and having to wait on it being built. One needs to stay focused though and not go too crazy and live within their means. You don't want the repo man taking away your dream truck.

I have almost that exact RAM, mine just has the rambox and the barn door tailgate, and it's black.
I've had it for a little over a year and it has been fantastic. It's my first truck, and the first truck that my family has had.
We love just hopping in and going for a drive, it is very smooth and comfortable. It has become the go to vehicle when we are going out, even more that a 2021 Mercedes SUV that we also have.
My three biggest problems are finding parking, the fact that it's a gas guzzler, and the AC is not cold enough.
I bought it in early 2022 because I haul a lot of stuff around on a semi regular basis, and I was using my mom's old minivan for a long time. It was time to upgrade and I wanted a truck.
I went to see the Tacoma first, but they were pretty expensive and they were not available at the time. I then went to RAM and I instantly fell in love with the 1500 Bighorn. It was a smallish price hike from the Tacoma, but it was tangibly better in every single way. Even though it's more expensive, it is much easier to justify the higher price of the RAM.
But then shortages hit HARD and there were no RAMs available at all. Six months passed and the dealership called me and told me there was a Limited available that wasn't already previously sold.
It is a huge price hike from the Bighorn to the Limited, and all of the goodies you get are very nice, but also unnecesary.
I mean, you don't get any better performance, in fact you lose some payload. Yeah, the screen is nice, but I just play my music when I get in and don't look at it for the rest of the drive. The air suspension is also super smooth, but that thing won't last forever and the repair prices are insane.
I personally was really looking forward to getting a Bighorn, but I ended up getting that Limited on the end. I love and enjoy it. My family absolutely loves it. It is just a great truck. I definitely recommend you to go check one out if you are moderately interested in it.
