They opened for KISS and nobody knew who they were! By the end of the set, everyone knew who they were, and could not wait to go pick up the CD! History made from there both musically, and in studio, by one of the best live bands of all time!
I just started listening to these guys again after about thirty years....I have to say that there are very few (if any) artists these days that have this kind of talent. Even after all of that time their music is still awesome and timeless!! God I miss this level of talent in music these days.
I couldn't agree more. I get tears in my eyes for I miss them more than anything. The change of direction in their songs, music is phenomenal. These guys were the kings of everything. Miss them so so bad.💔
"Dear God send us a voice that pierces the soul and encourages greatness of immeasurable consequence", Geoff Tate is that voice. Show me ONE, just ONE that can sing like that...... There's none...👍💯!!!!
+Steve Sullivan I'm with you Steve, no other band has ever touched me the way Queensryche has. I really don't know how to express what their music means to me. From the first time I heard Operation Mindcrime, I was hooked. The words and music are so intense and still significant to this day. Geoff Tate's voice is remarkable, when he sings it's like I can feel it. After Queensryche, other bands seem so basic and shallow......that's only my opinion and feelings after close to 30 years of listening to these guys.
Steve Sullivan they are amazing. I was in my late teens when they first appeared and I've never stopped, even now in my mid fifties I have to have my dose of the Ryche.
Best band along with Alice In Chains to come out of Seattle. Bar None. 1988 's Operation Mindcrine had me getting peeled off the walls lol. I love Geoff And Chris Degarmo what a shredder. Tate has vocals that are supurb do to an 0pera back round. I adore them. Empire rocks as well. Love you guys. Please try to get along. Your brothers.
The Thin Line Another hungry look, In her eyes again. Pacing the floor, The hunt begins. Skin-tight leather provides my pleasure. Wake my fear, surge with the pressure. Walk away and leave forever, do I dare? Raise my eyes, she stands. Holding out healing hands... are you happy now?.... I walk the Thin Line for you. Do just what you say to, With fear as my friend, I walk the Thin Line one more time for you. Addictive face pretending, don't speak the Word. Forbidden sin relenting, I barely heard... screams of entry blur my vision. Wake my fear of Divine Intervention Crawl away and bleed forever, if you dare. Hand on mouth the game goes on. Love, our stage to play upon. Are you happy now? I walk the Thin Line for you. Do just what you say to. With fear as my friend, I walk the Thin Line one more time for you. I walk the Thin Line for you. Do just what you say to. I walk the Thin Line for you. Do just what you say to, With fear as my friend, I walk the Thin Line one more time for you.
You give me chills from head to toe. Always have, ALWAYS WILL!!! Why did this have to crumble. You were the most amazing musicians ever. Miss these days.💔😭
I worked a show they played in Birmingham AL and got to watch soundcheck and setup they had a movie reel big as a tractor tire that played the whole set.. loudest concert I ever been to they played well over an hour guess that’s why I’m deaf lol… RESISTANCE!!! Shouts a man on the right… can’t solve the problems overnight 🤘
I never get tired of hearing "Operation Mind Crime", it's even better live! Absolutely one of my favorite albums. Some people don't get though and that's a shame.
This was their best, they are my favorite band, got me thru some really hard times. I miss Degarmo and Tate, No band has touched me more. Wish i could go back to this time!
Empire was released on this day 8/20/90. It's the 4th full-length studio album by the American heavy metal band Queensrÿche. The album stands, Queensrÿche's most commercially successful release, reaching triple platinum status. The primary single, the power ballad "Silent Lucidity", reached number 1 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks and number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100. "Silent Lucidity" was also nominated in 1992 for the Grammy Awards for Best Rock Song and Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group. Such a shame that this song was left off of the Indian cassette versions back in the early 90's ("Jet City Woman" would follow "Best I can"). Such an underrated Queensryche track.
I saw them almost 35 years ago. They must play before Bon Jovi has to play. Then they were not yet famoust but the public was more enthousiasted about them than about Bon Jovi. I was very impressed about them. They are great artists 👌👏💖
2023 im still listening to Operation Mindcrime one of the greatest albums ever made. Empire was fantastic as well. This band had it all. Queensryche isn't Queensryche without DeGarmo and Tate
The original Ryche still crushes everything. The only other band that can compete with the OG Ryche in songwriting is a post-punk experimental rock band called This Heat. The bands wrote the most mind-expanding thought-provoking musical lyrics.
So listening to this album again in my 40s is a lot different than my 20s! What a naughty naughty song... I was In Modena in 1991, attending the Monsters of rock. Queensryche were the third band to go on stage. They played one of the best concert I ever seen. They closed the show with Silent Lucidy. At the end of it me and the entire audience were astonished. We all gave them a 10 minutes standing ovation and we couldn't stop to applaude. 40 thousand people!!!!!!!! They couldn't leave stage because we were alla there with hands in the air. I saw lots of concert, but I never saw a reaction like that. Metallica roadies were trying to let them leave the stage, because it was Metallica turn to start their performance. Crazy.
Thanks for telling us about that concert! I LOVE to hear about times when they got the recognition from fans that they truly do deserve. NO ONE can touch them IMO. EVER!!!
ScarletVoodoo I'm so with you there. Most women were all into Tate (and his speaking voice was so incredibly sexy) but DeGarmo was just on another level. Major hottie!
Unique band.... Vocals by Tate, twin guitars envious to ever band at time DeGarmo / Wilton, a techinic drumer Scott, self-assurance bass player. Surely, Chris did the right choice embracing the pilot's career... that's all fucking business. All in our memories no matter what.
I saw them on the Promised Land tour, 3 times. Type O Negative opened for them. What a show! Love them! At least the early stuff up through Promised Land.
With fear as my friend, I walk the thin line for you.....It's no mistake that thanks to Maestro David Kyle I love the voices of Geoff Tate, Layne Stayley, Chris Cornell and Ann Wilson. When I found out he was their vocal coach I had an moment of clarity. Bravo.
I first heard Queensryche open for Ratt in Knoxville. They were performing Rage For Order. I fell in love with I Only Dream in Infrared. Been a fan ever since. However, I must admit I lost track of them after Empire.
It sucks ass that the first progressive metal band that wrote the most thought provoking, mind-expanding music has parted ways. Geoff Tates' vocals crushed everyone and still do. And Chris DeGarmos' guitar work and songwriting stand alone.
Damn, I forgot how f-ing AWESOME this song is!!! Those guitar riffs at the end… f-ing awesome!!! They were always playing these guys’ music at the gym… Man I’d love to go back to those early 90’s… These guys should’ve been way more popular!
Saw them on the Empire tour in Spokane, WA, Jan. '92 (or Dec. '91). They filmed a video for one of the songs that snowy night. I recall Geoff Tate was the ultimate professional as they did another take for the cameras, saying, "Please bear with us as we do that one again". They were flawless. Edit: I just looked it up, and we were the last stop on the Building Empires Tour, Jan. 3, 1992, Spokane Coliseum (now demolished). This may even be the video they filmed that night! Someone correct me if I am wrong.

One of their most underrated tracks. That bass tone is so ballsy

Honestly Eddie Jackson's sound is up there with the great bass guitarists of all time. That driving punch is so good
Agreed
My favorite track from the Empire album, Geoff Tate & the entire band , phenomenal 🙌 👏 👍😎
This was the Queensryche I remember. Totally dedicated and full of soul and passion in their music.
Yes. They were at their peak. It’s sad who their peak was the beginning of their end

Cool tune reminds me of the old days when good music was appreciated. Thanks for that!

Marvelous! What a sound!
Geoff Tate & Chris DeGarmo gave thise group an identity! Without them, there is no Queensrÿche :/
LYRICS FOR THIS VERSION:
Another hungry look, In her eyes again
Pacing the floor, The hunt begins
Skin-tight leather provides my pleasure
Wake my fear, surge with the pressure
Walk away and leave forever
Do I dare?
Raise my eyes, she stands
Holding out healing hands...
Are you happy now?
I walk the Thin Line for, you!
Do just what you say, to
With fear as my friend,
I walk the Thin Line one more time, for you!
Addictive face pretending, don't speak the Word
Forbidden sin relenting, I barely heard...
Screams of entry blur, my vision
Wake my fear of Divine Intervention
Crawl away, and bleed forever, if you dare
Hand on mouth the game goes on
Love, our stage to play upon
Are you happy now?
I walk the Thin Line for, you!
Do just what you say, to
With fear as my friend,
I walk the Thin Line one more time, for you!
I walk the Thin Line for you
Do just what you say to
I walk the Thin Line for you
Do just what you say to
With fear as my friend
I walk the Thin Line one more... One more time for you!
You!
You!
One, two, three!
