I agree. After Iron Maiden, Queensryche is the second tightest group I have heard. The only knock being is that when DeGarmo left, their song writing went flat, and in their efforts to continually remain a relevant band, they kept trying to reinvent their sound.
Only my opinion, but I think they should have kept on trying to better their efforts on Mindcrime, instead of continually changing their sound.

One of the few bands ever that was actually as good live as on the record, maybe even better!!
    My best concert EVER:
DefLeppard Hysteria Tour with Queensryche opening. They did almost the entire Operation Mindcrime album, and a few old ones like Take hold of the Flame and Queen of the Reich. When Geoff hit that note in Queen of the Reich, I was waiting for the glass lights to start bursting.
They are probably the MOST underrated bands from that "hair band metal" era of the 80's-90s.
Unfortunately bands like Poison and Warrant fucked it up for everyone. (so did Kurt Cobain with that grunge B.S!!)
I wish all the original guys would put their differences aside and do a live tour "Operation Mindcrime".
I heard Chris Degarmo flies planes now for a living, LOL. I can't even really remember why Chris left the band...

Not sure the reason either but I heard in interviews that Chris was burned out after hitting that peak of success because they toured so so much and he was missing time with his kids so he made that choice to leave and go fly planes. Tate... I love him but without Chris to bounce ideas off of just forget it. They were pretty close too during that time so I doubt tate had motivation to continue without him. My understanding was operation mindcrime was largely tates baby and empire was mainly Chris. Those were the highest selling records of their career so it shows what they do together and of course you cant discount jackson Wilton and rockenfield either because its like the parts of a well oil machine. And thatswhat made them stand out in peoples minds. All of them had 100 percent passion to play. Lucky enough to see that myself back on def hysteria tour, I never wanted them to stop playing and quickly forgot that we were there to see def🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 degarmo and tate poured it out with everything they had. And I was a first timer and knew nothing of them.😱😱😱❤❤❤ such a completely set apart phenomenal heavy metal band who loved to bridge acoustic with 🔥 riffs. I never saw them as part of glam 80s. They were far to professionally oriented in their craft. Just beautiful music with so much passion... my God it make you cry. Today still I love queensryche those classic heavy years with operation and empire live on when I reach for them. And that a forever kind of thing.🤭💯❤🤩

The love of playing it their greatest gift too because they always bring everything they have just so much passion. Note that are bass heavy in their sound. I love that it gives their stuff a real shadowy feel. Even piece like silent lucidity which was chris masterpiece had a bass heavy feel. Lovely. This is further proof of what the band is capable of. Unfortunately Tate got artistic and lost the plot. Degarmo left and they lost the hook. Now there's two bands missing the point that they need to put egos aside or they have nothing left to show. I have both albums. Tate-ryche is just empty and without focus, Queesnsrych 2013 is ok, but missing something: Tate and DeGarmo.

I totally agree. I was so excited to see these guys for the first time at the Rio. I was so ready to hear the Political Reality they spew so eloquently. This is also the first time in my life that I felt entitled to a refund. I had to ask the guy behind the counter "Are you sure this is Queensryche?" He told me "It's the "Caberet" concert." I said "Thank you I've already had a Cabernet"...Bye............

Geoff can still sing anything. I don't mean any range but any style.
You are so right about everything here. There are hints scattered around in old stories and interviews. In the 2006 interview with Geoff and Chris they said "we'd basically be off doing our own thing" a hint at creative segregation. Geoff has said before that when he came up with the concept for Mindcrime the others didn't like it and Chris had to bring them round. Chris was the "bridge" between Geoff and the others.

I don't know of one heavy rock or metal singer from the '80s that can still do it. All of them have changed. It's rough singing night after night while on the road. Some so called experts will say it's a maintenance thing. There is no maintenance for that aside from fewer shows. For example, an opera singer sings a fraction of the shows that Geoff has in his career.

It sucks ass that the first progressive metal band that wrote the most thought provoking, mind-expanding music has parted ways. Geoff Tates' vocals crushed everyone and still do. And Chris DeGarmos' guitar work and songwriting stand alone. Metal has taken music to the extreme ; it cannot get any harder, faster, technical nor progressive. That is why it is the sickest form of music on earth. Period.

queen of the 'ryche and warning are kick ass lps...but walk in the shadows/rage for order sucked me in for life, such a shame this lineup split into 2 different versions...both totally lacking that certain something they once had. queensryche were hands down the best american metal band of the 80s, they had it all...perfectly crated songs/intelligent lyrics/chops galore/great harmonies, and they didn't look like a buncha clowns who escaped from an insane asylum...queensryche had something most of those bands did not...class.

    • @joellovins9797
      @joellovins9797 10 лет назад +5

As a longtime fan of theirs since "Mindcrime", I personally feel that album has been played out and Geoff has milked it for all it's worth. I've always been more interested in where their new music was headed (hence why it's called PROGRESSIVE rock... it's all about evolution), even though everything from "Hear in the Now Frontier" through "Dedicated to Chaos" has been disappointing. However, the new album with LaTorre and Lundgren brought back the band's sound. Queensryche's past should be remembered fondly for what it was and left there. The fans have had enough rehashing and lackluster albums. Now that we are getting the kind of product we've wanted, it's time to move forward!

I saw two shows on the Rage tour and he put it all out there. Amazing vocal display. There is a Rage tour floating around on youtube and the whole band was tight, but Geoff was full throttle. That can do some damage night after night. I really believe the OM tour did the damage. They went right into the Building Empires tour with the full OM set. Promised Land was a marathon. I saw all those tours back then.
