Geoff can still sing anything. I don't mean any range but any style. You are so right about everything here. There are hints scattered around in old stories and interviews. In the 2006 interview with Geoff and Chris they said "we'd basically be off doing our own thing" a hint at creative segregation. Geoff has said before that when he came up with the concept for Mindcrime the others didn't like it and Chris had to bring them round. Chris was the "bridge" between Geoff and the others.
I don't know of one heavy rock or metal singer from the '80s that can still do it. All of them have changed. It's rough singing night after night while on the road. Some so called experts will say it's a maintenance thing. There is no maintenance for that aside from fewer shows. For example, an opera singer sings a fraction of the shows that Geoff has in his career.
It sucks ass that the first progressive metal band that wrote the most thought provoking, mind-expanding music has parted ways. Geoff Tates' vocals crushed everyone and still do. And Chris DeGarmos' guitar work and songwriting stand alone. Metal has taken music to the extreme ; it cannot get any harder, faster, technical nor progressive. That is why it is the sickest form of music on earth. Period.
The best voice ever tied with RJD miss that man and miss Queensryche, the band will never be the same with out him. I saw Geoff 3 times since the split first 2 great last 1 not so much and I will never go see the other one's.
"You need attention, what's good is only mine" yay-ahh! Right here Geoff Tate yeah baby! Hahahaha..I love tbis band, this album, & this song! Hell yes great memories!
queen of the 'ryche and warning are kick ass lps...but walk in the shadows/rage for order sucked me in for life, such a shame this lineup split into 2 different versions...both totally lacking that certain something they once had. queensryche were hands down the best american metal band of the 80s, they had it all...perfectly crated songs/intelligent lyrics/chops galore/great harmonies, and they didn't look like a buncha clowns who escaped from an insane asylum...queensryche had something most of those bands did not...class.
Does anybody have any idea the money these guys could make if all of the original members did a reunion of Operation Mind Crime? Holy shit that would be awesome.
As a longtime fan of theirs since "Mindcrime", I personally feel that album has been played out and Geoff has milked it for all it's worth. I've always been more interested in where their new music was headed (hence why it's called PROGRESSIVE rock... it's all about evolution), even though everything from "Hear in the Now Frontier" through "Dedicated to Chaos" has been disappointing. However, the new album with LaTorre and Lundgren brought back the band's sound. Queensryche's past should be remembered fondly for what it was and left there. The fans have had enough rehashing and lackluster albums. Now that we are getting the kind of product we've wanted, it's time to move forward!
Carrie Sills Geoff stopped creating music that appeals to his fans nearly a decade and a half ago. I can understand artistic growth, but he should have left Queensryche ages ago.
Back then, it was literally 4, Geoff, Ray Adler from Fates Warning, James Lebrie from Dream Theater, and the METAL GOD Rob Halford! Man what a great time to be alive and see these bands perform!
I can think of one, Bruce Dickinson. Do not get me wrong, I love Geoff and Rob, I saw Iron Maiden 2 years ago, The Legacy Of The Beast Tour and Bruce was Awesome. Albeit it was early in the tour though. LOL!! Atlanta to be exact. I brought (coerced) my best friend to the concert and he was totally blown away by the whole experience. (I know some friend I am) LOL!!!!
What a great band...Geoff tate's voice is second to none.best range I've ever heard.unfortunatley, The queensryche of today isn't even a shadow of what it was...what a shame.todd la torre is not any kind of a replacement for geoff
I saw two shows on the Rage tour and he put it all out there. Amazing vocal display. There is a Rage tour floating around on youtube and the whole band was tight, but Geoff was full throttle. That can do some damage night after night. I really believe the OM tour did the damage. They went right into the Building Empires tour with the full OM set. Promised Land was a marathon. I saw all those tours back then.
if thiers anybody listening, IMO! no matter how hard they try, thiere nobody without eachother! the way Tate,DeGarmo, Wilton, Jackson, and Rockenfeld sound together can never be duplicated! DONT TRY! set aside the differences and put out some more MUSIC! Not for money or fame, but for your fans!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!
Recently I've been listening to a lot of pop music and completely forgotten about my love for old rock and metal. And just listening to this song gave me a breathe of fresh air.

For example, an opera singer sings a fraction of the shows that Geoff has in his career.
This is musician's music. I think that is why they never became more mainstream.
To find this talent today you need to watch older videos of legends
The best band of all times!
What an amazing live version of an awesome song!
queen of the 'ryche and warning are kick ass lps...but walk in the shadows/rage for order sucked me in for life, such a shame this lineup split into 2 different versions...both totally lacking that certain something they once had. queensryche were hands down the best american metal band of the 80s, they had it all...perfectly crated songs/intelligent lyrics/chops galore/great harmonies, and they didn't look like a buncha clowns who escaped from an insane asylum...queensryche had something most of those bands did not...class.
Hands down one of the best Live Performances ever!
Geoff Tate is amazing!
❤❤, miss em.. MAGICAL
JOEL LOVINS
I agree, I saw both bands, and Todd La Torre was awesome. Geoff Tate was boring until he sang the Queesryche songs, sad to say.
Who is Todd La Torre?
Vince Lorenca The best thing to happen to progressive metal in the last two years.
Carrie Sills Geoff stopped creating music that appeals to his fans nearly a decade and a half ago. I can understand artistic growth, but he should have left Queensryche ages ago.
Who else sings like this live
Back then, it was literally 4, Geoff, Ray Adler from Fates Warning, James Lebrie from Dream Theater, and the METAL GOD Rob Halford! Man what a great time to be alive and see these bands perform!
The Greatest Heavy Metal Band of ALL TIME - "The Ryche"!!!!
Thanks for posting!
rduquet
Rob Halford can indeed still sing his ass off and so can geoff tate- there has ALMOST no other metal singers that compare
@@williamholmes9195 Also, one Ronnie James Dio comes to mind when mentioning the greatest rock vocalists of all time.
It'' Hard To Beat The Original Queensryche!!! Any Band!!
I got to see them in 88 and 91 very good live back then
What a great band...Geoff tate's voice is second to none.best range I've ever heard.unfortunatley,
The queensryche of today isn't even a shadow of what it was...what a shame.todd la torre is not any kind of a replacement for geoff
Man talk about hitting on all cylinders.
Still rocking to Jeff in 2022. The best singer queensryche had....
Yep 👍👍 can’t beat good metal
I saw two shows on the Rage tour and he put it all out there. Amazing vocal display. There is a Rage tour floating around on youtube and the whole band was tight, but Geoff was full throttle. That can do some damage night after night. I really believe the OM tour did the damage. They went right into the Building Empires tour with the full OM set. Promised Land was a marathon. I saw all those tours back then.
Great range with his voice..can't replace Geoff in my opinion.
QR are so underrated ! one of the most creative bands of the 80-90s!
Saw them for rage for order and operation mindcrime great live performances
DeGarmo's backup vocals mesh really well with Geoff
Amazing. Those are real background vocals folks! No tracks.
if thiers anybody listening, IMO! no matter how hard they try, thiere nobody without eachother! the way Tate,DeGarmo, Wilton, Jackson, and Rockenfeld sound together can never be duplicated! DONT TRY! set aside the differences and put out some more MUSIC! Not for money or fame, but for your fans!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!
Recently I've been listening to a lot of pop music and completely forgotten about my love for old rock and metal. And just listening to this song gave me a breathe of fresh air.
fuckin classic that still kicks ass!
Love the harmonized solo!
