You said that you can't use the older RCs with the Air 3, but you didn't mention if the reverse was also true. Can you use the new RC with say, the Mini Pro 3? I am considering getting the Mini Pro 3, but I would love a controller with better connectivity. Is the new RC compatible with the older drones? It seems wild that it wouldn't be considering aside from slightly different software, the big bonus for the new RC are the external antenna.
@@Kiltedbear no it only works with the air 3 and new drones in the future
@@Kiltedbear Its the same thing as using the mobile hotspot on your phone to connect your tv, laptop, desktop to internet data using your phone's data package. You find on older appliances you only get 2.4GHz networking, and newer items tend to have 5GHz, or the option of both. However, when you transmit your wifi hotspot you can only transmit in one frequency at a time, which I guess is why they set it up as only 5GHz. Either that or they want to make you have to shell out for more kit.... I figure all their next drone lines will also only be on 5GHz.
@@DMProductions One other question on this 5GHz controller frequency, are there any countries you know of where you cannot use this frequency due to restrictions for one reason or another?
I was leaning towards upgrading from my A2S, but after learning that I cannot use my RC Pro Controller, I definitely will not upgrade. The controller is every bit as important to me as the Drone itself (most cannot tell the difference in 75% of the photos or videos after editing.) Most of my flying is for commercial purposes and I am not someone who always has to have the latest. For now I will stay with my Air 2S.
Just wait for firmware update to the RC-PRO for A3 compatible
@@jonahkaiguam been chatting with dji customer chat option and due to the OcySync difference it's possible they won't be compatible. If it's not possible that's a huge let down since it would also likely mean future drones will not work with the current rc pro. All speculation on my part I should add and hopefully dji surprises us and makes them compatible and other future drones.
I suppose they could do it through firmware but it would have to be on both the drone and controller and it would effectively negotiate down to the least common denominator which would be O3+. Which means you gain nothing from the newer Air 3 from a transmission standpoint.
the main camera is worse too... it uses the same 4K camera from the Mini 3 Pro, the Air 2S has a bigger main sensor camera, better low light performance, and 5.3K. the zoom is a great function and better obstacle avoidance/activetrack is great but not worth it for the upgrade as an owner of an RC Pro, in particular if you use that controller for other DJI drones too.
@@canyonblue737-8it does not have the same camera as the mini 3 pro. Why do people keep talking crap on these videos ffs.
I totally want the Air 3 for my first drone. Currently saving up for it.
I think it's a very awesome drone my only Problem. I already have 2 controls. And the Mavic 3 pro and the Mini 3 pro. I will just wait for the Mini 4 pro.🙂👍
The control bring unique to just this drone is a pain in the butt. I wonder if it will be backwards compatible with the mavic 3 series. It certainly would make sense
Theres another difference to Mavic 3 series. Air 3 has adjustments for Sharpness and Noise Reduction- as on Mini 3 Pro. Not sure why Mavic 3 Pro doesn't but this is fantastic.
By the way Air 2S has had a Firmware defect on Courselock hyperlapse since last November. You cannot reposition the drone after selecting subject - something ALL other DJI Drones do. Support acknowledges the bug but will not commit to a fix at this time.
The RC2 also has 32 GB internal storage which i havent heard any RUclips channel mention. Also ive only heard 1 channel mention that the RC1 had a heat sink on the back so it had passive cooling and would get extremely hot when using it in the sun or hot days. Whereas, the RC2 has a internal fan to have Active Cooling which does a better job at keeping it cool. That helps also with the RC2's performance because the RC1 getting hot would cause it to laggy and lock up
The lack of compatibility with rc's is, for me, deal breaking
I was for buying a dji m3p but the mismatch with controllers is deal breaker for me atm
@garymcconnell1072 don't forget that when the Mini3Pro came out, it was the only drone compatible with the RC1. After a firmware update on the RC1, it became compatible with the M3 series and the A2S. So instead of complaining about the lack of compatibility of the remotes, just wait for the update
@jonahkaiguam Not complaining as such but I already have 2 rc controllers and don't want to chance buying a m3p with another rc and in a month its packaged with a rc2 as no option for drone only
Smaller sensor was a dealbreaker for me
@@canman2216 it’s a stakked sensor, much beter for a small sensor
I understand why the older controllers wont work with the Air 3, but will the Air 3 controller work with the earlier drones? In other words, is Ocusync 4 backwards compatible?
read and find out.....
I plan to get the Air 3, but it will also be my first DJI drone. I feel confident by the time I'm ready to add a pro drone to my operation that DJI will have released newer versions of of the Mavic and or mini series.
Just bought one and whole set Kase filters for it. DJI is the best I think!
360 obstacle avoidance is my game changer
Man I've torn between Mavic Air 3 and Mavic 3 classic. Can't wait for your comparison video!
its a fantastic upgrade , but the size is the mini 3 pro s biggest advantage as a photographer, space in my bag is limited at best of times. mini3 is only size of a small lens i love the split lenses but just could not quantify the extra size for it . id love to see a Hasselblad lens on the new mini 4 pro this year with a 1" sensor id be happy with that and a must of waypoints too.
Just ordered my A3 bundle this morning.
Upgrading from Mini 2. My original Mini 2 remote is starting to wear out (wants me to calibrate the remote almost every time I turn it on, and sometimes the calibration won't take). Glitchy - and not sure if there's a fix, but very excited to fly the A3 with the RC2. Personally, I like the idea of not having to hook up my phone. Flying in bright light and warm temps makes the screen go dark and the phone gets hot. Will be nice to be able to actually see the screen clearly. Happy flying all!
That said - keeping my M2 as well - It's been such a solid drone for me for almost 3 years. Almost went with the Autel Evo Lite+ - but (1) Autel is sold out of orange bundles (per website 2 days ago) and I'm very familiar with DJI interface, etc. Would have been nice if DJI could do away with geofencing though.
I think i will be keeping my Mini 3 Pro.... And maybe buy a Air 2s now
Same controller......
That sounds like a plan 👍
I just bought it for my business I'll be using it for the first time tomorrow
Hi Darren. Thanks for your content to this point about the Air 3. I expect mine to arrive on Friday this week. I look forward to more of your content as I am sure you will have important, useful tips. Cheers from Wisconsin, U.S.A.
ah nice one George you'll love this drone !
as a first time buyer of a drone this is exactly what i was looking for.
From viewing the influencers Air 3 reviews I noticed a significant improvement to the dynamic range over the Mini 3 Pro imagery.
This drew my attention as I do alot of twilight capture, so I took the plunge & purchased the Air 3.
Interestingly Autel's Nano & Lite series have had the same as DJI's Occusync 4, the triple band transmission for the last 2 years.
But they're not Glocks.
I have the nano + but I ordered the air 3 for more stable flight, waypoints, 70 mm, and hopefully better dynamic range. I’ll keep my nano for lightweight travel and such
Do you think the RC2 controller will work better with the Mavic 3 pro than the RC1? Like better range, and a smoother experience?
As of now it’s not compatible, I get the feeling it’s not going to be though.
@@ChuckD05 Gotcha
I am very tempted by the Air 3 principally for the new 70mm camera (a perspective I prefer over a 24mm wide angle) and the long flight time. All that puts me off are the restrictions on use in the UK
yeah the 3x is such a great focal length, just get the a2 course and problem solved! courses.uavhub.com/courses/a2-cofc-fast-track?ref=cc78c1
The biggest problem is without an adjustable aputure you will have to use ND filters. Ok so what? The two lens are different max aputure. Ok so what? Your exposure will be different when you switch between lens. Ok so what? You will have to either adjust ISO or land and adjust your ND filter. Super annoying.
@@therealjimmy5411So you can't put a different ND on each camera? That would solve this issue.
And don't forget now we finally get WAYPOINTS too.
@@firpofutbol Nope
Bought my Air 3 yesterday. I can't wait to fly! Thank you for the awesome video.
Mine comes tomorrow 🎉
I already ordered mine to compliment my Mini 3 Pro. The 70mm lens to me is the selling point. I almost wish they would have made a Mini 3 Pro with a 70mm less on it.
When I fly the mini 3 pro I think dang this would be good with a 70mm, the 70mm focal length is so good ! Big air 3 advantage
Hey can’t wait for mine to arrive ordered it !
ah nice one!
Wouldn't a simple firmware update make the RC controller compatible with the Air 3 ?
I doubt it, the rc 2 also has a new and different chip
Excellent presentation, mine arrives today via Amazon, but "big but", don't for forget the charger described is in fact a charging hub, need to a get a minimum 100w power supply which should charge a battery* in about 1 hour, so I purchased an Anker 737 from Amazon rated at 120w as neither the DJI recommended 65w & 100w power supplies are available from the DJI shop or anywhere else apart from fleabay?
* Not found any information on how long it will take to charge all three batteries when installed in the hub and of interest when charged in the drone DJI says the power is limited to 65w and therefore expect an 80 minute charge time.
I have a mini 3 pro and air 2s but have only had the air2s a few months. And now this one is out. And it’s like both worlds wrapped in one. I’m giddy!!!! My wife is not. Since I’ve not made any cash off of them, she still looks at them as toys. I’m still learning. Will I buy it? TBD after my my honey do list is finished!!!
The AIR 3 is a great drone but... I wait for the AIR 3 Pro. I hope that the camera's then wil get a update with a larger sensor... Fingers crossed!!
I’ve viewed some reviews on the Air 3 however I’m interested in its capacity to livestream. Is that a possibility and if so by what means?
Doesn’t worry me I use the smart controller pro for my M3C best smart controller I have owned
Love your channel and the way you present the information.
Thank you ☺️
IT HAS WAYPOINTS!!! FINALLY!!! Thank you so much for the eval :)
You're welcome!
I like the New Air 3 but Disappointed that RC Pro Controller cannot be used with the Air 3 Drone I have 2 controllers now the RC 1 and the RC Pro you should not have to have 3 different controllers I won't be running out to buy the Air 3 until it is compatible with the RC pro Controller.🙂
Thanks for sharing! Currently RC 2 and RC-N2 are not compatible with previous drones (Mavic 3, Air 2s, Mini 3 Pro …). I would consider to buy Air 3 if RC Pro can support Air 3 after new firmware/DJI Fly app updates.
It now works with the RC Pro
I just wanted to point out the spec sheets for the mavic air 3 dont do justice to how good it actually is. aside from what he said in the video there is another feature that is a game changer. the air 3 also has a stacked bsi sensor which gives it a huge advantage in low light situations.
Surprisingly , the dji website doesn't talk about any stacked sensor , they said it got 2 . 1"1/3 inch sensors , 70mm, and 24 mm lens ... well, this cat and mouse game of changing and hyping up techs will continue on the market... guess DJI forgot that they added stacked sensors.
I will be getting the Air 3, it’s less costly for virtually the same amount of quality.
You need a good charger to plug the USB C cable into, or the batteries will not charge. I tried several chargers and finally purchased 160 watt unit that did fine. Thought for a day or so I had defective batteries or something.
Super excited to get mine tomorrow. As a new professional this is the perfect mid-range drone, with a few advantages over the $3000 Mavic 3 Pro kit. Can't wait to use the 70mm for shooting cars. For $1500 its an awesome value. As others have said, it doesn't include the charging brick but I got a 100w one from a reputable 3rd party brand for like $30. Not a big deal and really no reason to pay $100 for the DJI block. Once the ND filters come back in stock I'll get the set of those as well.
Hi. I just have one question did you noticed any pink tint compared to the other drones video output (Mavic 3pro, mini3pro) I seen few people mentioning that on RUclips…
I can’t wait to see your classic v air 3 comparison. With both drones so similar in price, size and weight class they really are the most comparable.
I really want to pick up a new drone this month and I am tempted by the 70mm of the air however aperture control is so useful too.
Same boat! Lmk what you end up deciding
Me too
Personally, I find using NDs is an acceptable tradeoff to gain the 70mm. The new stacked sensor makes it great in low light with compensates for the smaller sensor size.
@@ryandonovan1454 it’s just if there’s changing conditions, sun going in and out behind clouds for example. You can put a lighter ND and ride the shutter, this is what I do with the mini 3 pro and most of the time you can get away with it however when you go to 70mm you’ll notice the lack of motion blur more.
You can stick on a stronger ND however there’s a risk of the image going too dark mid flight.
The Classic has a very usable 3X zoom
I have mini 3 pro. I’ll wait for the 3 air pro or s.
I want this too just not sure if I need the combo with the RC2 controller or plug my iPhone instead. I just feel that your hands going over the screen and the iPhone on top works much better as it is out of the way. I have a Pro max iPhone so a huge screen as well
So Dji now have a complete fleet with 3 lens 2 lens 1x lens swtching camera drones ...the ocu 4 transmission is quite a bummer tho if u have just bought the Mavix 3 pro with theat controller ...as for other specs the battery charger is pretty cool for the time being i think Air 3 is a good buy , i just wander if they gonna make a Mavic 3 pro with OS 4 or will have to wait a 4 for it
Good video Darren. I am in the balance on buying the AIR 3
its a great drone !
I wonder if the mini 4 pro ( when it is out) will have similar upgrade features. I have had air two for nearly two years, recently bought mini 2 for flying nearer to buildings, I was considering mini 3 pro soon, but the air 3 made me wonder , speculate, about features that could be on a mini 4 pro.
I agree.... I don't buy > 250G FAA drones.
would be really sweet to have the goggles 2 supported
Great review, maybe when the Air3 S comes out it will be compatible with everything 😂
The price approx $650 differences with same model most features are same, quality video/image not huge big gap.
So I'd choose *Air 3*
So we don't have a controller with HDMI out to Air 3 ? we need that for live streaming mixer
The parallel power charger makes only sense if you have enough power to charge three batteries in the same time like one battery. Is this possible?
Hey they charge in sequence when plugged in
Planning to buy my firat drone...air 3
I ordered the air 3 yesterday very excited returning the mini 3 back to dji can't wait to do some awesome shooting with this drone.
You’ll love it ! I’ve had such fun with this drone and perfect for literally any situation
What about the Goggles Integra and motion controller 2?? FIRMWARE UPDATE PLEASE!
I've been waiting for the MINI 4 as an upgrade to a MINI 2. Now I've seen this I might just do my A2 CofC test and get it. However, one of the advantages of the MINI 2, is noise. Low noise has given me a bit of privacy and confidence. How does the Air 2 compare noise-wise? Great videos as always. Thanks Darren.
Air 2S is much louder than the Mini. I have an Sir 2S and a mini 3.
Super excited to get mine this week
You’ll love it!
I live in the United States.
I fly my Mini 2 for recreational purposes. Even tho' not required, I registered it with the FAA and have the "Small UAS Certificate of Registration" and was issued a unique ID number for the Mini 2.
I am looking into getting the DJIi Air 3 - a heavier drone - for recreational use and the FAA requirements are that I register the drone. A small fee is involved. An easy online process. Like my Mini 2, I'll be issued a unique ID number for the DJI Air 3.
If I use it for commercial purposes, then I must do the Part 107.
$5 for 3 years for personal, 107 if you plan to make money (not the exact words) with the drone. All drones have to be listed with the FAA only >249 gram have to have numbers and it is quite clear in the regs which most people on the internet can't seem to read.
I live rural so range, range & range again is always 1st, next battery life?
I’ve always refrained from running batteries below 20 per cent. How might this new charger pull power from two batteries to fully charge a third without shortening the life of the batteries?
Trying to sell my Air 2 S and get the Mavic 3 classic! Nothing beats the Hasselblad quality… and definitely two 1/ 1.3” camera on the Air3
the controller info you gave answered an important question for me...Thank you!
Interesting, will probably get one
Ahh Blea Tarn. What a beautiful place.
one of the best
Please Dji rc vs dij ri2 video upload 🙏 A to z all informations
I have an air 2s and I love it as a camera drone. I do think my next one will be a mavic3cine
I think I am getting the Mavic Classic with the NC-1 controller as the video controllers are often incompatible with something. Plus, I want to use a tablet for a larger viewing experience.
As of this morning - Update to RC Pro should make compatible with Air 3. I don't know why it was not made public sooner by DJI. I have downloaded and installed but of course cannot test on Air 3 as do not have. Now, I will have a tough choice to make on whether I will update to Air 3
I’ll make it easier. The update notes were an errror, it doesn’t work on rc pro even after the update.
@@DMProductions Thanks for that - No choice for me now. And I am OK with that.
The controller incompatibility is maddening. Is the new controller backwards compatible though? For instance will the Air 3 controller work with the Mavic 3 Pro drone, etc.?
in time it will, and the DJI site proves that if you can actually read and not just blindly read "Influencer" BS
the Air 3 works for me... was considering the Mavic 3 Pro but cost is an issue at this time. is a different controller a problem? no. after all, the other DJI drone I have is the Mini 2. cheers
The air 3 is such a good value drone considering everything you get on it !
Just one question, does the controller have to be with the subject or person it is tracking?
Not in a hurry for another drone and will probably not get another DJI product unless they ditch the error prone geo fencing and completely unnecessary extra step (in usa) for airspace authorization in restricted areas. Almost all the areas I will be flying when I start doing commercial work will require FAA authorizations pre-flight. Not dealing with the extra (and often buggy) step DJI forces on users that may keep the drone grounded even if you already have valid FFA auth.
I need hdmi out and the rc-n2 doesn’t have that. Didn’t they atleast enable hdmi over usbc?
I have an older Phantom 4 Obsidian . For me it’s just too large and seeing this NEW Air 3 with Ocusync 4 and every other amazing technology built into it , I think for SURE I’ll be buying it with the upgraded package , video controller, batteries etc. I just think it’s time to get a smaller, better tech one now :).
I’m with you on that decision.
I BOUGHT A AUTEL EVO 2 V3 ENTERPRISE DRONE LIKE IT MUCH BETTER THEN DJI NO GEO FENCING, 7.9 INCH SMART REMOTE VERY COMPARABLE PRICE TO YHE MAVIC 3 PRO WITH FLY MORE KIT
The new air 3 has night flight mode, does that include obstacle avoidance at night?
UK CAA not recognising C1 classification is my current deal breaker if only,..
The battery trick is pretty cool, and the follow me in any direction is fantastic as is cruise control but I think DJI are getting way too much credit for waypoints, like it’s something amazing and new when it was on the original Mavic Pro. As much as I like this I won’t be buying it due to restrictions I’d have to put up with compared to my mini 3 pro.
That 250 gram IS a big deal.
Yeah, waypoints I prefer to use the Litchi app for where you can load up the waypoints on the computer first.
How's the still image quality compaired to 2s ? .seems no one takes photographs with drones these days .. not a comment anywhere 🤷 faux 48mp ? Or decent ?
I have an Air 2S with the fantastic RC Pro controller and was hoping it would work with the Air 3.
No luck! Strange though...
I have watched a bunch of RUclips videos of the Air 3 and you are the first and only one to explain that the RC Pro controller will not work with the air 3.
Thank you for being so diligent and informative, although it is bad news!
No problem but getting the rc2 is night and day difference it’s so much better than the original rc
On the 24ml Lenz what is the max digital zoom
Can you use the new controller with the mini 3 pro?
NO.
I was looking forward to this drone untill I found out it wont work with my RC pro, its a no go for me now. DJI REALLY needs to have better backwards compatibility practices when they sell you a controller for $1000++
Why couldnt the rc pro be able to be used, the air2s and the mini 3 pro both had occusync 3 and the rc pro was occusync 3plus which are 2 different protocols
Going to stick with all the benefits the M3P has, granted the Air3 has some nice features but size and controller compatibility is a negative for me.
Somebody wrote this yesterday and it is unanswered....
"I understand why the older controllers wont work with the Air 3, but will the Air 3 controller work with the earlier drones? In other words, is Ocusync 4 backwards compatible?"
You also HAVE NOT answered my earlier question about maximum altitude for Air 3, is it 1000M, like the M3P?
No. The answer was clearly stated in the video at around 6.30 ish.
How did you get license to shoot in Algarve like that?
Does the new controller has streaming capabilities?
I got the mavic 3 classic a couple weeks ago.. just waiting for your next video to go return it and get the air 3 😅
Would this drone be a massive upgrade from my Mavic 2 zoom(w/ smart controller)? Thanks for making this video!!
Recently got a mini 3 pro, very happy with it. Rather annoyed though that my brand new drones controller won’t work with this drone. Come on DJI, I’m sure you could make it work. I’d consider buying other drone only products if the controllers worked with lots of other drones.
Oh I’m sure it’s backwards compatible with OM3. It’s exactly the reason I won’t buy. I already have an air 2s for two years, and I just spent like $1500 on a mini 3 pro rc fly more and accessories two weeks ago. So if I can’t use my brand new RC controller for the new air 3 I’m out. It’s bad enough my mini 2 can’t use it. It’d be so nice to just use the one controller for all three and be done. I only fly my mini 2 in risky shots I don’t want to put my more expensive drones into. But still having to keep and carry a second controller sucks. I would have totally picked this air 3 up for the zoom and obstacle avoidance, but not if they don’t update it to work with rc gen 1 that just came out last year!!
It now works with the RC Pro
Really bro.
Please come up with NEW and Interesting content.. this video made me actually wanna get the drone... NOT sway me away from it..
is there app to swap from bandwidth Europe to USA ? like the phantom series? or is this not needed with the mavics ?
this is a usefull video. didnt know a lot about the batteries and the options. i am very happy with my air 3.
Almost a grand for a controller - what a year ago and it’s not compatible 😩
I was waiting so much for the Air 3. Only thing i hate is the size is bigger and that the fly more batteries with the charger is HUGE to travel with. I would only be able to use 1 battery since i travel with the minimum possible 😔
Air 3 looks awesome.. But why oh why no variable aperture?
why oh why no $500 increae in price, gawd what a stupid question
@@silbay aperture blades aren't an earth shatteringly expensive item, there is also no need to keep under 249g. Pricing probably closer to a $20 increase. Or, you could spend hundreds on ND filters...
Perhaps not such a stupid question.
720p RTMP Livestreaming is a huge letdown too...
i was really happy when DJI simplified their RC controllers, and made them compatible between drones. i think that there wasn´t a good technical reason for making every drone with a different controller before that, at leas in same "generation" drones.. but i think that now there is really no reason for making the air 3 with occusync 4 , not backward compatible with occusync 3/3+, since i´m totally sure that 99% of users, are really happy with Occusync 3 and no one was asking for "more range" and even better signal. i´m ok with DJI continue the developing of the transmition technology, and the 5.2ghz band sounds great, but i´m sure that technically, they could deliver the Air 3 and RC-N2 / and RC2 controllers compatible with O4 and O3 at the same time, even if you "lose" a bit of range or quality when using them with O3 devices..
i own an air 2s that i´ve bought a few months ago, and i don´t plan to upgrading it soon since is more than capable for my use, but i was looking into upgrading the to an RC 1 controller. thinking that in the future when i replace the drone, i could sell the air 2s with the RC-N1 and keep the RC for the next drone, whic allows me to upgrade in steps and dont need to spend all the money at the same time. but now i´m probably wont upgrade my RC controller, and just buy a tablet instead for having a better screen than my phone, so DJI just lost 1 buyer, , if they made the RC2 compatible with O3 drones, i´m totally buying it, so i have a better RC controller for my next drone upgrade.
It now works with the RC Pro
Hi, Air 3 will have the MOV format in the future?
Can you use the DJI RC 2 controller with DJI Mavic 3 Pro Drone?
No
It is normal the old controller won't work on the new drone. What is really disappointing is the NEW controller won't work with previous drones...
So the 3S Controller is not reverse compatible?
