Would definitely buy a 6th gen prelude if one came out. That said, I love the 5th generation styling as it goes back to the older 80s designs in terms of body lines, tail light aesthetic etc. Luckily in New Zealand, you can pick up a decent condition 5th generation type s prelude with the 220hp h22a for around 3000usd.

Today people really appreciate the prelude. I’m buying my second one next month! Today when you are seen driving one it turns heads I think Honda would be surprised if they used today’s tec to bring it back I almost bet sales wouldn’t be an issue! My youth and I’m 27 love the car especially after the fast and furious scene. HONDA BRING THIS LEGEND BACK!!

Middle aged guy here, who has been daily driving this Lude since 2002. I have a black 97 SH that I drove hard and didn't really maintain things - yet it's still running fine on almost all factory original parts (except consumables), with no major repairs, and just a lot of smiles in the corners. It's lived outside the whole time, so the clear coat is pretty shot, she does burn some oil, and she could use new shocks, bushing/mounts, but I can't complain given her age. It's insane seeing all the comments about folks always wanting this car or regretting ever selling it....

I own a 5th Gen SH. 253,000 miles and still runs fine. Someone along the line swapped in an H22A red top. It's also got a custom intake and exhaust. I'm pretty sure it makes the full 217. I won't dare call it a fast car. It probably would have been 20 years ago. But nowadays, when huge horsepower is really cheap, it's just regular traffic. It does turn heads, because 26 years later, it still looks like nothing else on the road.
I will dare to say this - if you want something that's fast, fun, and you can actually beat on it without being punished, buy a V6 manual Accord. If you want something that makes the same power, revs more, and can even carry a few friends, buy an 8th gen Civic Si sedan. Both of those are objectively better cars. Parts are more available. They're newer and are generally more reliable and have better features. What I love about my Prelude is the raw driving experience. So if that's what you crave, get a Prelude. Otherwise, V6 Accord or 8th gen Civic Si are better picks for the money.

The prelude is not the fastest car but I just really like the shape of the vehicle, it's sleek. If you look closely, the 5th gen kinda resembles the skyline gtr, and the 4th gen resembles the Toyota supra. I wish they continued the prelude with rwd/awd/v6. Would've been a dream come true. I'm still driving a 5th gen 97 Honda prelude and loving it.

Especially lowered a little and some 17" wheels. I miss my Prelude so much. I would love to get my hands on the sistates prelude. Great video! The Prelude definitely aged itself out of it's own market, over 3,000 lb girth didn't help while the Civic Si stole the performance show and cost less with a ridiculous aftermarket. Today because of the added weight of side impact protection, SRS/airbags, power everything, and a taller profile to compete with SUV's, the formula isn't working anymore. The used market is gaining popularity for Integra GSR's, older Civic Si's (not beaten on), and even CRX's, but these older cars are missing all the stuff we take for granted today: passenger safety, onboard 'smart' technology, driver assist systems, etc.

A 6th Gen Prelude ? I'd be the first one to the Dealership. In 1986 I purchased a Metallic Black 1986 Prelude from the Dealership in Nuremberg Germany, the first 16 valve motor on the Autobaun.
What fun playing with the Porsche & Beemers at 130-135 mph. There was a popular U.S. Car magazine that did a test drive of a number of different cars on a curvy Road course layout in Germany.
A Prelude was included, stated by the driver " We watched the Porsches and the Beamers Bob and Weave as we wondered why? while we sat serenely in our Honda Cockpit .
    Nothing says it better !

I have a 5th gen prelude, and i have to say for the past 18 years it has been a great car, the only complaint i have , is i wished Honda would have put the v6 in this car for the 1997-2001 model years.............The 2.2 works great, and quick as hell on the open highways , but i just prefer the smooth and quick response you get from a v6

I have a base 5th Gen and I'm using it every day: best car I had, even if not as practical as the CRV 1st series my wife uses...

Honestly I think they got rid of the prelude because they had si coupe, Accord coupe v6 and s2k at the Time. So they wanted to cut the prelude so people would buy si or a v6 coupe or if you had money the s2k.

8:45 Don't forget rising truck and SUV sales. There just wasn't a need to have another coupe in the lineup.

There's a small mistake in the 3rd gen specs. The strongest engine had 150hp and 180 N.M, it was the B20A7 for the european market ;) But very nice and informative video anyway :)

I almost bought a 5th generation one in 2001, the payments were to high I bought the 02 Civic Ex coupe instead as brand new at the time.

the 3rd and 5th gens were the best iteration (although my father used to own a 2nd gen when I was kid in manual; I wish I could have driven that one)

4th gen all the way. The 4th gen VTEC is by far the best prelude ever.

AWWWW HELL YEAH, I'D BUY A 6TH GEN PRELUDE!!! I've got a 5th gen as my first car and every time I step into that car, it makes me more confident as a driver. Great car to learn handling in and not kill-yourself-quick but quick enough. Love the Prelude. Easy to work on.

I wish Honda would bring back the Prelude. I had a third gen si and I really enjoyed it. Wasn't very powerful, but it's handling I impeccable. Just a very well-being machine.

My 5th gen is still a dream car to me personally. I plan to keep mine beside the R35 as long as I'm breathing.

Great job with the Prelude history! I enjoyed learning about the evolution. I miss my 2000 lude. Can you please make a similar recap for the Acura Legend?
