Yes but pressing the button on the zoom ring and turning it turns the camera on not the button on top of the camera!!

I just got this camera and it shoots great outdoor pictures! It makes everything look so HD and vibrant. I really like it. I'm not a photographer at all myself,but its fun working with this camera. I'm going on a trip to Europe soon so I was concerned about that as well.

Thanks for a good review. What I am stuck at with my V1 is when I mount a Nikkor lens it warns that I cannot use mounted lenses in auto mode. It allows only some modes like tha A and S. Why is that and then how do I get to use the auto mode with mounted lenses?

in movie mode, is it possible to remove that focus rectangle box in the middle?
If you have a second could you let me know recommend settings for taking pictures up close? I take photos of small trinkets for my etsy shop and cant get it to focus right. Distant shots are perfect though

So what settings would you suggest for fashion blogging outdoors. We have been messing with ours a little bit and neither my hubby or I know squat about photography. Love the camera just not sure how to adjust the settings for what we need.

Great review! Just picked this combo up used and it's great. Just wanted to point out that your 10-30mm lens is indeed a VR (vibration reduction) lens. You can see this if you look at the front of the lens.

I could see that when you showed the menu that refered to slow motion filming, it said 400 fps, and it appeared you could not change that. But, I have been told that it can record at 1200 fps?

Great review but I'm interested in how to operate long exposure how do i take a picture with cars driving by so they are streams of light?
Use manual mode or shutter mode. Set up for longer shutter exposure (beyond 1 second)
So this was a very clear instructions so thank you but I’m getting frustrated bc when I zoom out the whole screen goes black and I can only use the 30 setting on the lense and even then the imagine comes out dark???

The interchangeable lens portable camera is the future as people like myself prefer to not carry the "bricklike" DSLR. This is the perfect entry level camera for anyone. I love the fact that you can make adjustments while shooting a video. It does lack the viewfinder option because we inherently need that stability when hitting the shutter. Prices are astronomical and are nearly as much as a DSLR. My next purchase will definitely be a Nikon J.
I really want to buy this camera, but I want to know if it's actually worth it? And is the 10-30mm lens good enough or would you reccomend to get the 30-110mm as well?

Wow, what a terrific video! I already own this camera and consider this my video instruction manual. I was wondering how to manually change shutter and aperture settings for still frame photos, and you covered it very well--better in face than the paper instructions provided by Nikon. Thanks!

Can anyone get that focus square in Manual Mode in Movie setting like Brian does? Driving me crazy that I cannot get the camera to do this.

Brian you said in the video it is not a VR lens. Do you sometimes watch your own video? If yes you'll find the "VR" on the lens.

@ 21:40 where you have that center square to focus in Movie Mode, I cannot get that to save my life on my camera, I don't know why.

I have a question, I could us the dial ring to change aperture on "A" mode but on M mode I can not change the shutter speed? and also after I changed the "Auto ISO 100-3200" to "200" and switching back to "Auto ISO 100-3200" I lost the control of the aperture on "A" mode too!
Do you need the lens for the camera
I have the J1 and I'm getting frustrated with it because when I take pictures of bands, they don't come out right no matter what setting I have it on. Everything is blurry. I have the lens it came with, the 10-30.
Do I need a VR lens to reduce the motion and blur? Or what would you recommend?
... possibly increase the ISO so you can take photos using higher shutter speeds... try ISO 800 or 1600 or higher and check the results... hold camera as still as possible
Depends on the lighting your taking pictures in and mainly the aperture,shutter speed and iso if your doing low light I recommend a tripod you don’t want to shoot in auto mode
How hard is it to Manual focus through the screen? I want to get this but it seems like it would be hard to see.
my flash "light" does not go off when I flick the flash switch up. I have reset my settings and still nothing. Can the bulb burn out? Any suggestions?

I just got this camera for Christmas and have been trying to film with it, but I can't. It only films for about 40 seconds (sometimes 20 or a minute) then it just stops filming. I've tried changing some settings and calling Customer Service, but nothing. Can anyone help?!

Good overview of the features of this camera, which I also own and like. Other reviewers mentioned that the lens is VR, which it in fact is. No biggie, just saying. The lens button rotate does not turn off the camera, though it does turn it on. The J2 corrects this--you can turn both on and off with the button. Thank you for sharing.

Wavester64 Not exactly sure. If your lens has a switch on the side of it make sure it is set to AF, not MF.. make sure AF is enabled on the camera as well as described in the video (AF switch is located towards the bottom, next to where the lens sits).

I use a Zoom H1 it is a great combination with J1.

Just want to say that the sensor is smaller than most, the crop factor is much higher than other sensors. No stopping me from buying it though!
