  • The best three lenses for the Nikon 1 system, in my opinion. The Nikon 32 1.2, the 18.5 1.8 and the 6.7-13 wide angle zoom!
    My Nikon 1 gallery using these lenses is HERE:

    Full frame FOV & DOF equivalent:
    32mm f/1.2 ~ 86mm f/3.2
    18.5mm f/1.8 ~ 50mm f/4.9
    6.7-13mm f/3.5-5.6 ~ 18-35mm f/9.5-15

    Wow I bought 6.7-13mm f/3.5-5.6 yesterday.
    Expensive but reasonable, in my opinion.
    Come for my summer holiday!

    I'm just missing the 32mm but I plan on getting it before the end of the year. Love the UWA zoom and the 18.5mm, I always have them with me (as well as my V2).

    Great job, Steve. I have the V2 and the 6.7-13mm. I also have the 18.5mm. How do you like the 6.7-13mm? I love it.

    I can't bring myself to buy the 32 f/1.2. I keep my 50 f/1.8 and FT-1 on the camera most of the time. I love the 135 equivalent and f1.8 or f/2. works like a charm.

    I'm curious if you have ever tried using the FT-1 adapter with the V2?

    Just snagged a V2 with the 10-100mm lense for $500. Can't wait till it gets here. I'll probably get a 18.5 next.

    is that a focusing ring on the 18.5?

  • @HiFiHuff
    @HiFiHuff  11 лет назад +2

    Of course not, never have been in my life, never will be. Doesn't work like that. Everything I write about or test is either bought by me, or loaned to me for 2 weeks. The 32 1.2 I tested by renting it from lens rentals. Liked it so much I bought it. The V1 is one of my fave cameras because of what it offers in all areas, as well as the low cost, build, size, and now lenses.

    Does it not use the Sony RX100 1 inch sensor? Would not the Sony RX100 M2 with the ExmorR sensor perform better in low light? Lenses crazy costly, same price for such small lenses compared to say the M43 primes that are larger or even the APS-C size lenses - a killer foor me is lack of buttons or manual controls - hate menu diving

  • @luller6
    @luller6 11 лет назад

    It is not overpriced - all you who don't have it - steve is right, this lens is the best thing i ever bought and it IS a bargain for what it delivers.
    AF speed and accuracy, size and weight, incredible resolution, full usable 1.2, great colors and contrast.
    1.2 is NOT 3.2 in full frame - it is still 1.2 but has somehow the DOF of an 3.2 full frame, this lens is so damn good !

    The lenses you showed are very good - but, what about taking movies or pictures from you family, children, pets and so on outdoors? I am e.g. also pretty happy with the 10-100mm 4-5,6 in broad daylight. Thats the only movie lens I want to carry around outdoors....

    The problem with these types of reviews is that Steve Huff is obviously claiming these three lenses are the "best" for his style of shooting. Period. Are they the best for your of my use? Probably not so much. In fact, they are somewhat unsuitable for my use entirely. All three of these are way too wide for my needs even considering crop factor. Which would I use for birds or baseball? How about airshows and wildlife? None of these are particularly well suited for any of these endeavors or similar events, so one must take a review like this with a grain of salt, understanding the author likes these choices for his interests only, and considering this, I'm sure they are great choices.
    I purchased the V3 specifically for bird photography in that the huge 2.7 crop factor allows me to put 18 megapixels on a distant target. With the FT1 adapter, I can do this with my current Nikkor 400mm and 500mm lenses. Even the new 70-300 CX mount does a great job for my uses. In my professional portrait studio, I'll continue to use my D800 and Nikkor 85 f/1.4G as they are better suited for this use.
    So, good review as long as you add "for my particular shooting style" these are the best three lenses for the Nikon 1. Your mileage may vary.

      A shame really but yes the Nikon 1 system doesn't has lenses from external makers. And the Nikon 1 lenses are pretty damn awesome but yeah also pricy.
      If you want cheaper options and more options there are other systems. But the lenses the Nikon 1 system has are pretty much awesome.

    Pardon me for asking Steve but, are you sponsored by the manufacturers whose products you're presenting (alas Nikon here)? Great videos as usual I'm just interested since the 1.2 lens is way overpriced to be even semi-considered and considering the other systems' alternatives.

    • @IcarusB1
      @IcarusB1 10 лет назад +2

      Nope - these lenses are designed for Nikon's Compact System range: S1, J3 (or previous J1 & J2 models) AW1 and V2 (or V1),

    • @edwardrex6458
      @edwardrex6458 10 лет назад +1

      You need an adapter for regular Nikon DSLR lenses. And other brands. There are naive to the system.

  • @Phillydog1958

    I cringed every time you laid a lens down on it's rear, without the rear lens cover on. I'm always concerned about damaging a lens. :-)

    • @ColoredIceberg
      @ColoredIceberg 9 лет назад +1

      Pinky Baloo Yeah, I mean I love my little V1, but everything is overpriced and the kit lens is absolutely abysmal. I slammed an old 50mm f1.8 Minolta MD lens on it with some shady cheap adapter between it and even that was sharper at f1.8 than the kitlens at f3.5. DXO Mark rates the V1+10-30 kit lens at 3 P-MP.
      For the same price as that 32mm f1.2 you could buy a new Sony a6000 with cash to spare for a nice second lens. So if you buy that lens you could have had an APC mirrorless camera with more than twice the megapixels, a better kit lens, 1080p60, XAVC codec, much more native lenses, lower depreciation + a second lens. If you then sell your V1 (which I am not going to do because I am attached to it :D) you could probably even go for quite a fancy second lens, or buy the a6000 body and get a seriously good standard zoom lens.

  • @TomZentra
    @TomZentra 11 лет назад

    But you are not buying the lens to throw away in a year or less. The V3 is coming and one day there may be a V4.

Or the worst... "TUFF" ouch. (actually, tuff bothered me, only as it happened & now that I recall, really only ever came from the 1 girl in particular, an ex & she did promotional/model-shit for J.Daniels, so truthfully I'm ahead) Anyways, hopefully this declaration does indeed find you in good form, & the weight of this fact roster (I never even knew such a thing existed) doesn't get you all huffy n puffy n shit.
