My wife isn't a gamer, but she really enjoyed the new animal crossing and was disappointed that it became so stale after a while. She's been stressed lately because of work, and I want her to enjoy the same escape gaming has given me from stress. I've never played Stardew, but I thought it would be a cool game for us to play together. We spent our first days on the farm wandering around pretty aimlessly (while still having a great time), so I told her I'd check out a few guides to give us some direction. Every beginner's guide I've watched has been more of a cheat sheet on exactly what to do to have the most efficient playthrough, but yours is much gentler, and I feel like it's giving us the direction we need while not stripping away our autonomy to discover things for ourselves. Very well done. I'm excited to play again tonight, and I think she's going to fall in love with this game.
Well done, spouse person! 🙌 My husband just bought this for me on my chromebook for the same purpose. 😂💚 I’m loving it so much, and I had to come back and watch this vid after I saw him watching this channel. So helpful, AND entertaining enough for my stressed out ADHD brain to pay attention.
Exactly! I watched a guide(s) that was more about "cheats" than a getting started guide. I simply wanted a nudge in the right direction and a basic understanding of what's going on. This video actually did that by explaining energy, time and seasons, etc. The other two videos I watched were more concerned about selling the parsnips for potatoes than actually explaining the farming process. Plus, that's something I can figure out myself later or learn in an advanced guide. So, thank you so much for this!
After almost 900 hours in the game, I've learned a few things myself: 1. Always save at least one of everything. You'll need it for the Community Center or as a gift. If not those two, as a quest item. 2. Using your scythe uses no energy. Do that on your land first, you can clear away a great deal of land with no energy loss. 3. Leave the stumps of some of your trees if you do cut them down. They will still drop seeds for you to turn into Field Snacks. 4. Save money for the strawberries at the Egg Festival, and buy as many as you can. Strawberries are incredible early money. 5. The beach only resets once a week, so I let it gather shells for the full week until Saturday, then collect them all on that day. 6. It's just easier to print out the wiki table of what villager likes what gifts for birthdays. Memorizing them is a pain.
About forageables: don't forget that they sell for a lot more money if you turn them into seed packets before you sell them, so if you don't need to eat them for energy it makes good sense to save them until you have a full collection. It's a worthwhile crop to grow for that reason alone, besides it raising your forage skill even more. Also, George loves leeks, Harvey and Krobus love horseradish, Pierre likes dandelions, and most other people like daffodils, so they're a good crop to grow for friendship reasons.
@@khia7550Every season there are 3-4 forage items. You need a full collection, and then you need a high enough forage skill level to unlock the seed packet recipe. Usually if you are chopping plenty of trees, and collecting forage regularly, especially if you grow some, you'll have no trouble unlocking the recipes on time.
when i first started i thought the shipping bin was like the one in new horizons where you'd get less money using it so i always sold directly to vendors 😅
Just starting my Stardew journey, this is super handy! I appreciate not being told the meta strategy, just the little tips and such so I can figure out the rest myself. Foraging is definitely something I overlooked!
loved this video - lots of tips and hints i missed during my first 15 hours of play, but i didn’t feel pressured to make my relationships and farming OPTIMUM EFFICIENCY (those videos stress me out, which is exactly the opposite of what i want from the game). (seriously, i watched one saying i should restart my game because i chose a mushroom cave.)
I think I saw the same one with the mushroom cave thing. I do wish I hadn’t chosen mushroom cave after seeing it but oh well. I’ll just start another save and choose more “wisely” that one. I’ve made too much progress to restart and I’m happy with my farm!
i just got the game yesterday and watching this was sooo helpful! i've played a few hours, pretty sure i'm on spring 11 now but didn't have any idea you could pick flowers haha! great video, thanks :)
i dont know if you know this, but during spring, if you visit the forest on the bottom left of the map, on the island in the forest at the bottom right, there are spring onions you can collect! they sell for decent money, and are an easy way to level up for foraging skill !!
i’m a perfectionist when it comes to games like these and being the most optimal but i’ve been trying to be less strict and just enjoy the game as it is
I remember when i first started playing, i was scared to pick the spring onions, because they looked like someone planted them there and i didn’t want to piss them off by stealing their crops!
Showed this to my mum to help teach her to play it, she needed a game to relax for once and struggles to manage everything compared to the old ds mario games shes used to, this really helped to explain it to her and she loves the game ❤
Something I found is that while you’re customizing your character, there’s a icon with a wrench in it on the left side. There’s a option where you can change the profit margin. There’s 75%, 50%, and 25%; going with the largest percent, sold items are worth more and items that are being sold cost less. This can be really helpful if you come across a problem with making money. I don’t think you can change the profit margin once you’ve created the character.
I had honestly never even heard of stardew valley until a year or so ago and I never understood what it was. I just started my first farm 3 weeks ago and I wish I had found this then because I went in knowing absolutely nothing and running around like a chicken with my head cut off but it was a nice right of passage, really nice video!
Just bought Stardew Valley! I have no idea how to play the game at first and the "beginner's guides" here on RUclips are not really beginner friendly, like for me, I have 0 knowledge of what they're talking about, like they kept on dropping stuff and information I have no idea. However, you have the perfect video for us newbies! Thank you so much. My journey to Stardew Valley will be a lot smoother now.
I’ve been wanting to get into this game but every guide I looked up just seemed too advanced. This guide was super easy to watch and very informative. Thank you so much!! I can’t wait to play this game and actually know what to do!!
I just started playing yesterday. 2 things, I thought the chest that sells things was a storage chest AND it took me forever to complete the 1st quest because even though I had bought things numerous times it didn’t count as me meeting Pierre 😳 Overall a really fun game!
Just got the game myself, was pretty confused as there's so much thrown at you with a very limited tutorial. Thank you for this video, it makes starting this new game significantly less overwhelming.
Thanks for this video. I bought Stardew late last year after loving Animal Crossing and My Time at Portia, and I was looking for something similar. I just couldn't get into it because there wasn't enough guidance for me at the start. This video is a nice nudge in the right direction without being overwhelming and I'll definitely check out more of your Stardew videos as needed.
Me and my spouse playing this game currently. It’s my second time around playing. This time I chose the woodland farm and very happy with it as I have a lake, lots of trees including berry shrubs etc on my farm. I can catch fish, set the crab pot at my lake, Harvest berries and collect maple etc on one place. Also monsters come out at night so I can get some slimes and bat wings etc.
Pro tip: Hoard salmonberries every spring, cuz they're a great energy source for the mines in winter. They're free, they're abundant, they're satisfying to collect
Wow thank you for a great video!! This was the first beginner guide video I was able to find that actually started from the beginning LOL. I got the game on my switch a couple days ago and had no clue what to do and felt so overwhelmed 😭. Now I’m excited to play!!! 😊

I used to play the heck out of Harvest Moon 64 back in the day, and I finally bought Stardew Valley. Funny how I picked up on what to do really quickly, as this game is basically a better version of Harvest Moon 64. I originally planted my crops in the same hyper-efficient method I used in HM64 (think of a 3x3 plot as a compass rose, simply remove one plot from N, E, S, or W, and you can water them all if you leave room behind the opposite side). I was happy to see i could actually walk through crops. HM64's crops behaved like the beans do in Stardew Valley. I also thought the beans needed me to build a trellis, and since no trellis was in the crafting section, I never bought the beans. I also already bought a backpack. I think I did that by day 5 or 6. Fishing is pretty cool, and I'm playing the river farm.
Bought the game on release for Switch and gave up after 5 hours, think I was stressing about doing every quest and with them being timed wasn't putting time into the right things, I look forward to trying it again at my own pace. Thanks for the video
I remember my first year was me struggling to water all my crops in a day, since I only stayed using sprinklers in the first winter. I constantly went into the later half of the day while going into the low yellow with the energy bar. Needless to say my second year has me refusing to water anything by hand to the point of me not having enough resources (this is my first time truly playing the game rn).
Thank you! I've had Stardew downloaded on my Switch for nearly a year now and only opened it the other day. I had no idea what to do but this helps a lot!
I'm on day 15. This game tends to give me anxiety sometimes because I feel like I haven't done enough in those 15 days 😂 feels like real life, but knowing it's not is comforting

... Why does watching this feel like he's explaining Stardew to Mama Therm? 🤣 Love it, great guide to Stardew basics without getting too "you must do THIS" into it.
i've had this game for over a year now and have been kind of 'meh' about it because i didn't understand all the small things. this video is the first one that actually taught me anything lol. thanks so much, actually excited to play!
I'm new to this game, and this tutorial made my day easier, I was just running around the map for no reason (still fun) because I don't know what to do lol
Just binged your beach farm series and modded series AND the upload of the Stardew Valley Cup. I'm sad it took me so long to come across your channel but I'm super stoked for your next video!
Thank you so much for the video I just got stardew yesterday for switch and I was literally so confused on what to do in the game and how to go about it and what not to do and what such I do about it this video has been quite helpful
Thank you so much for this. I just bought it a couple of days ago and I was so lost. Alot of the 'beginner guide" videos I found on YT weren't really helpful.
Good beginner guide! I might suggest planting parsnips until you get 5 "gold" quality for the future (Community Center). Otherwise, you have to wait for year 2 spring. Also, I ALWAYS buy the "training rod" from willie. Much easier to learn to fish.
Thank you for making this video. I have been reluctantly trying to convince myself to purchase this game and I finally did. The moment I began, I felt lost and had absolutely no interest. After 30 minutes of playtime, I requested a refund. I've now canceled the refund request and I'll see about giving it a little more time.
Absolutely terrific video. I'm so, so tired of game beginner guide's having a constant b-roll of late game content and chock full of spoilers. This is minimalist and informative in the best possible way. Thank you!
I’ll watch your beach farm after I finish a run of Stardew. Impulsed bought it because I’ve been thinking of playing it for years, and I’m forcing myself to play it because I believe I will enjoy it
I couldn't get into animal crossing and saw this game on tiktok. Seems more up my alley and your tutorial was perfect. Subscribed so I can watch the others as I go!
I really want to get this game and I have some probably stupid questions 1. Do tools have durability? 2. Can you loose energy when you’re just running/walking around? 3. Is there a way to regain energy once lost or do you just need to wait to the next day?

Nice video! Great refresher for the game :)
Thanks man!
I'm new to this game, and this tutorial made my day easier, I was just running around the map for no reason (still fun) because I don't know what to do lol
After that "WATCH IT". i like HAD to watch the beach series lol
3:34 - 3:42 MAKE SURE TO NOT RIP OUT ANY SAPLINGS WITH THE SYCTHE
I just got the game, and this is extremely helpful, thanks a lot!
I’ve been playing this game for like three years, I still need this
thank you, sir. just bought this game on sale and felt so lost, not sure what to do and this guide helped me.
Just binged your beach farm series and modded series AND the upload of the Stardew Valley Cup. I'm sad it took me so long to come across your channel but I'm super stoked for your next video!
I spent 3K on spring potato seeds (planted and everything) and then woke up to them dying on day 29…. And here I am.
Ouch!
Thank you so much for the video I just got stardew yesterday for switch and I was literally so confused on what to do in the game and how to go about it and what not to do and what such I do about it this video has been quite helpful
I play this game all the time, I barley know anything about anything 😂 but I still have tons of fun
Oh my gosh thank you so much! I just got stardew and I’m so confused on everything lol and this was so helpful!
Thank you!
This was extremely helpful! I recently got the game and the tutorial doesn't explain much so tysm!!
Thank you. I am old and quickly got frustrated. This helped immensely!
I'm so glad I found this game! I needed something to play after ACNH! Love the tutorial
ooooh please do the efficiency guideee i love these videos i am binge watching
i love this game and i play it on the go on my switch and its so fun when i go to a friends we play stardew valley for hours
this was so entertaining, ur awesome, ur my new fav youtuber now
I’ll watch your beach farm after I finish a run of Stardew. Impulsed bought it because I’ve been thinking of playing it for years, and I’m forcing myself to play it because I believe I will enjoy it
this is very useful, and I was trying to get my account to work for a long time and now it does
I couldn't get into animal crossing and saw this game on tiktok. Seems more up my alley and your tutorial was perfect. Subscribed so I can watch the others as I go!
Is this Kurtis Conner? I swear it's gotta be.
Me with 24 Hours in the Game and Several Info videos:
Also me:A beginners Guide! That's fun!
I will definitely watch your beach series 🤣🤣🤣
I really want to get this game and I have some probably stupid questions 1. Do tools have durability? 2. Can you loose energy when you’re just running/walking around? 3. Is there a way to regain energy once lost or do you just need to wait to the next day?
1. no!
2. no!
3. yes, you can eat food. You can also go to the spa, but it's inconvenient and not open until Summer.
