I'm a bassplayer and these are my touchstones for quality writing and spacious production that leaves room for the bass player! :D definitely doing it the right way by starting back at the roots of it all. a lot or reactors just see that people have done Slayer's Reign in Blood and leap straight in with that and that's not a sensible plan!! you have to work up to that stuff...
Uriah Heep known for their vocal harmonies. On All three numbers David Byron are singing. Such a great singer. RIP. On July Morning Paul Newton plays the bass. On the two others Gary Thain played the bass. RIP. You should try The Wizard
I had to learn quickly that most played songs on Spotify often don't represent, what I like about a band, so I always dive into the discography directly and find out myself. However, there's nothing wrong about Uriah Heep songs like Lady in Black or The Wizard. It's just others are so much better. I'd additionally recommend: Bird of Prey, Salisbury (both from Salisbury), Pilgrim (from Sweet Freedom) and then The Hanging Tree (from Firefly) to add something more adult oriented rock.
THANK YOU. First band I ever saw live, aged 15, 1976 at Wembley Arena. Mum & dad took us! We loved them in our house and they were amazing. Easy Livin, Sunrise, The Wizard, Magician's Birthday the list goes on. Please do more. You can find great live stuff on YT of them. Live a Budokan is pretty dope. They had the supreme line up when I saw them. Easy Livin is fab.
You liked the bass on "July Morning". Pretty sure that was Gary Thain, who was a New Zealander who played with Uriah Heep, but died tragically at 27 in 1975
Motorhead was led by Lemmy Kilmister who came from the band Hawkwind who actually had a song called Motorhead. You should check them out, they've been playing space rock since 1969 and are still going led by Dave Brock.
You really can't leave the 70s without properly listening to KISS. They are an inspiration to many big 80s metal bands as much as Purple and Sabbath were. Cool song would be: Deuce, Strutter, 100,000 Years, Hotter Than Hell, Rock Bottom, She, Detroit Rock City, God of Thunder, Love Gun. And let's stop there 😉.
Saw them many times. Also saw them on their very first tour back in 1970 or 71, they opened for Steppinwolf in Houston, Texas. All these songs, I heard live.
July Morning is a classic - What you listened to was not the original album version which is far superior and contains the famous whiplash guitar moment. Lead singer David Byron was definitely doing Ian Gillan vocals & screams - and if you listen to a track called "Come Away Melinda" you will be convinced that is Gillan. Lol - add a Hammond organ and - well you can see where their influences lay. Please listen to the original July Morning in your own time and see what I mean. I'm surprised noone else noticed you heard a different mix entirely.
Just scrolled through the comments to see if anyone mentions the different version of July Morning... :-) I'm not quite sure what version Kira listened to. It was good but the original is the best. This version was missing something. One of those things was the synthesizer solo at the end of the song. I've always liked that. The original July Morning featured an early use of a Moog synthesizer played by Manfred Mann. Only a few musicians owned one back in 1971. Ken Hensley started to play a synthesizer himself a couple of years later. He was a great keyboard player and wrote some fantastic songs. Many bands from the 1960s and the 1970s had a keyboardist. They mostly played the organ. Some of them started to play other keyboard instruments as well but the organ was a big part of the sound. I also want to mention that the "Deep Purple in Rock" album (their first "heavy" album with Ian Gillan) and the first Uriah Heep album came out at the same time in July 1970. Both of these bands have some similarities of course but still have a unique style of their own. They've written some of the most memorable songs in history. I liked your comment. Take care and enjoy the music.
@@Vimana I do like Kira's posts but with so much jumping through tracks so fast, most people wouldn't pick up on any differences. She should let tracks play all the way through, as there are reaction posts to entire albums, unedited, & tracks longer than 15 minutes, unless they actually pause the track to speak. Kira's enthusiasm is wonderful so lets see more rather than cut & edited so much. Let's enjoy every moment of tracks along with her. That would be so cool.
@@jimled50jl49 I agree. It would be nice to see the whole reactions. Well, Kira does what she does and I'm ok with that. One of my favorites is "JustJP". He makes very good music reaction videos and often listens to the whole album as well. He takes his time and often finds something meaningful to say.
Not saying it's "wrong" but at least July Morning is also not the original version from the 70s, but I think a re-recording from 2009. Then the Line-Up would be Bernie Shaw - vocals Mick Box - guitar, Phil Lanzon - keyboards Trevor Bolder - bass Russell Gilbrook - drums Mick Box is the only one still active in Uriah Heep from the beginning. In the 70s they had some changes (some of them tragic) of bass players, and in the late 70s also vocalists. The main line-up of the early albums would be David Byron - vocals Mick Box - guitar Ken Hensley - keyboards Paul Newton - bass and changing drummers, before they found Lee Kerslake in 1972. That would in parts explain some different sound. Bernie Shaw is strong, but also not getting younger. The late David Byron would be their original voice, together with vocal harmonies of course, and Ken Hensley the orignial organ player. Also, on July Morning there is an additional Keyboard solo by Manfrad Mann, on a very early Synthesizer :D It may sound a bit cheesy today. But (if only for yourself) also listen to the studio version on the Look At Yourself album! (I think most of the time finding out which album a song was on first, and finding that version makes the most sense? If it isn't something special)
Motorhead my favourite band. Try Overkill, we are the road crew, sweet revenge, capricorn, iron horse and of course the track motorhead which was a track by Lemmys previous band Hawkwind
I most of Uriah Heep the David Bryon era except the high and the mighty. His voice was ruined by alcohol, I believe. A few years later he got his voice back but died too young. Uriah Heep had it's share of tragedy. But survived for over 52 years.
I don't know what you're listening to here. But this is a very recent version of Uriah Heep. Good as it is its not a patch on the band that originally recorded this song. Go to the Live 73 album and listen to the same song. The reason you love the bass by the way is he's playing the bass lines of the late Gary Thain (New Zealnder) one of the most fluid and musical bass players there's ever been. If you listen to it, remember it's live!
These old bands usually always told a story in their music ,so it isnt just a bunch of instruments that is banging a tune ,take note of that an really pay attention to what you are listening too ,it will be more interesting to know an help you further down the road ,some members had also branched off of other bands an moved on to form others ,bands also did sequels in their songs to the stories. Also I might add ,be careful on some of the reviews on the older bands if you mention certain band members names ,some have past away an no longer with us as die hard fans can be sensitive! All in all ,have fun with it an good luck as the history of the rock world goes deep an mysterious , an can be magical!...😎
Thank you for reacting to one of my all time favorite bands. I think it is great young people are discovering the music I was enjoying 45 years ago. It gives me hope for the future of music. If you liked that song, you might want to try "Return to Fantasy". Another epic song. Find the studio version. It also has some great bass work from John Wetton and Big Hammond B3 organ with the swirling and screaming Leslie speaker. David Byron defined the vocal sound for what would become Heavy Metal. Keep listening and keep exploring the Uriah Heep music catalog and the other great forgotten bands of the early 70's. Other tracks you might want explore Magicians Birthday, Salisbury, Bird of Prey, High Priestess, Lady in Black, Love Machine, "The entire "Demon and Wizards Album" ENJOY
Fun fact: Easy Livin' is probably about finding Jesus. "I've been forgiven / Since you've taken your place in my heart". The very heavy tone makes it easy to miss.
Sorry to disappoint you, but its not about jesus. Its about how outsiders see the life of a rock star being an easy living. That comes straight from the mouth of Ken Hensley who wrote it in 15 minutes.
"July Morning" from the "Uriah Heep Live - January 1973" Album is the ultimate version. The studio version doesn't even come close. You should give it a try, it will blow your mind.
Uriah Heep has an amazing catalog of good songs. For a very different feel from the 3 your listened to here, I suggest Lady in Black or (for a TOTAL change) Come Away, Melinda. It's amazing that Gypsy and Come Away, Melinda (a gentle anti-war song) appeared on the same album. And you really get to hear David Byron's melodic voice on Come Away, Melinda. Give it a listen. And Lady in Black won the German equivalent of a Grammy Award. Ask any German person if they've heard the song, and they will say yes.
Hmmmm... Motorhead. Well, I'm guessing most people will say "Ace Of Spades," so I'm gonna recommend: "Overkill" (live version, preferably from "No Sleep 'til Hammersmith) "Bomber," "Iron Fist" (there's an awesome promo video for this one - mostly them on stage) "Stay Clean" (with a bass solo by Lemmy) "The Hammer" (this one is about the drummer - Philthy "Animal" Taylor) "City Kids" (early Motorhead) "Motorhead" (written by Lemmy when he was in Hawkwind)
I Wanna Be Free is my favorite Uriah Heep track. It's on, probably, my favorite Uriah Heep album with July Morning. A famous review for the album Gyspy is on (their first) was "If this group makes it, I'll have to commit suicide." My condolences to her family.
That was great! Fun to see you experience Heep for the first time. Glad you enjoyed them! You’re right, the bass *should* have been mentioned. I’m with you in favoring July Morning of these. I liked all of your comments and enjoyed your enjoyment of “Gypsy” as well It’s a pipe dream but I wish I could be your personal Uriah Heep advisor, HAHAHA. You probably know the feeling, you want the reacter to react to exactly what YOU want her or him to react to. and when you know a band’s full catalog you know there are deep cuts that others aren’t going to suggest but, maybe someday you’ll get to some of them. Keep hope alive. and I understand choosing democracy as a way to approach this. These were all good choices, no problem whatsoever with these. That was an odd version of July Morning... I did think it was the original singer but now I’m not so sure...The replacement guy may just sound a lot like David Byron. But, you got the gist of the song. Original would be best off of “Look at Yourself”. or the live version off of “Uriah Heep Live”, 1973, Black cover with white writing. Come to think of it that’s probably a good way to find the true original, - add in the album title along with the song title in a search. Might work... or maybe also add the word “original“. I will reiterate my top other choices in another comment. Thanks kira for this excellent reaction!
I'm not that much into Uriah Heep, but still loved the video! :D 70's Scorpions are definitely a good place to go. I like their 80s stuff (not as much, though), but they were amazing in the 70s. And before moving into the 80s, I'd suggest to give Thin Lizzy a spin or two. Phil Lynott was a poet, and a great bass player too! Cowboy Song, Emerald, Opium Trail, Don't Believe a Word... The UFO video was awesome too BTW. You rock, Kira 💪💜
Bass, sole, trout, mask, replica. The guy has a very unique voice. I like The Heep. Salisbury, Demons and Wizards and The Magician's Birthday are in my collection. But they have a lot more. They kind of have prog leanings from time to time. Glad your channel is doing so well. We can't help at the present time but I hope patreon treats you well.
One of their newer songs called Wake The Sleeper is a modern classic. Their early stuff is legendary. While Bernie is great on July Morning you need to check out the original version with the ultimate David Byron. They always had amazing bass players. Gary Thain was a freak bass player. One of the best of the 70s.
I would add, their song The Pilgrim is a true gem. One of the first really epic rock songs. Brings to mind the band Babe Ruth who did the song Duchess of Orleans. It’s epic as well. So many great bands from back then.
Lady in Black, you will love it....& that chap who recommended the Scorpions-Sails of Charon, unique track with the guitar solo first up out of the blocks, stunning!
Someday you could react to pre metal like Blue Cheer who were the LOUDEST band of the 60s. I liked them but a friend thought they were Blue Shite. Out of Focus is a good one by them.

definitely doing it the right way by starting back at the roots of it all. a lot or reactors just see that people have done Slayer's Reign in Blood and leap straight in with that and that's not a sensible plan!! you have to work up to that stuff...
Uriah Heep known for their vocal harmonies. On All three numbers David Byron are singing. Such a great singer. RIP. On July Morning Paul Newton plays the bass. On the two others Gary Thain played the bass. RIP. You should try The Wizard
"Salisbury" also an epic song from their album "Salisbury"
I love your reactions. Rock On Girl 🎸
Loved it. I told you David Byron was a major singer. I wanna check your list there on "Stealing" and "The Wizard". You rock Kira. I mean it!!!
Got the video today only 20 min after it was released. There was something wrong with the comments... Only got to comment now. #frustrated...rsrs
God! How could I forget!!! Check "Sweet Freedom"!
Supreme beauty of chaos...Legend
You should check them out, they've been playing space rock since 1969 and are still going led by Dave Brock.
i love uriah heep the best band years 70
You should listen the studio version, so you can hear David Byron’s beautiful voice.
Music from my high school days in the seventies, thanks.
@@Vimana I do watch others who listen to full tracks & albums but I must admit Kira is a joy to watch. Her reactions are for me the best of the bunch.
Not saying it's "wrong" but at least July Morning is also not the original version from the 70s, but I think a re-recording from 2009.
Then the Line-Up would be
Bernie Shaw - vocals
Mick Box - guitar,
Phil Lanzon - keyboards
Trevor Bolder - bass
Russell Gilbrook - drums
Mick Box is the only one still active in Uriah Heep from the beginning.
In the 70s they had some changes (some of them tragic) of bass players, and in the late 70s also vocalists.
The main line-up of the early albums would be
David Byron - vocals
Mick Box - guitar
Ken Hensley - keyboards
Paul Newton - bass
and changing drummers, before they found Lee Kerslake in 1972.
I loved your reaction to this great band. New subscriber 🖤
These old bands usually always told a story in their music ,so it isnt just a bunch
of instruments that is banging a tune ,take note of that an really pay attention
to what you are listening too ,it will be more interesting to know an help you
further down the road ,some members had also branched off of other bands
an moved on to form others ,bands also did sequels in their songs to the stories.
Also I might add ,be careful on some of the reviews on the older bands if you mention
certain band members names ,some have past away an no longer with us as die hard
fans can be sensitive!
All in all ,have fun with it an good luck as the history of the rock world goes deep an mysterious ,
an can be magical!...😎
Yes, awesome!!!
Uriah Heep amazing band.
Uriah rhymes with Mariah !👌
gotta strengthen those neuron connections
Hi kira again another entertaining reaction🤘blue oyster cult in the next few weeks 🤞fire of unknown origin and shooting shark to add to your list 😀
"July Morning" from the "Uriah Heep Live - January 1973" Album is the ultimate version. The studio version doesn't even come close. You should give it a try, it will blow your mind.
HEIL THE HEEP !!!!!!
I saw them in 1973 along with ZZ Top and I still have my ticket stub.
Wow... I never realized that Bruce Dickinson was mimicking David Byron so much.
Now try Salisbury and look at yourself. Great music right at your fingertips
Much yay
AWWW
Hmmmm... Motorhead. Well, I'm guessing most people will say "Ace Of Spades," so I'm gonna recommend:
"Overkill" (live version, preferably from "No Sleep 'til Hammersmith)
"Bomber,"
"Iron Fist" (there's an awesome promo video for this one - mostly them on stage)
"Stay Clean" (with a bass solo by Lemmy)
"The Hammer" (this one is about the drummer - Philthy "Animal" Taylor)
"City Kids" (early Motorhead)
"Motorhead" (written by Lemmy when he was in Hawkwind)
I Wanna Be Free is my favorite Uriah Heep track. It's on, probably, my favorite Uriah Heep album with July Morning.
A famous review for the album Gyspy is on (their first) was "If this group makes it, I'll have to commit suicide." My condolences to her family.
That bass player, Gary Thain, is from New Zealand, and passed away at l think the age of 27 or 28.
That was great! Fun to see you experience Heep for the first time. Glad you enjoyed them! You’re right, the bass *should* have been mentioned. I’m with you in favoring July Morning of these. I liked all of your comments and enjoyed your enjoyment of “Gypsy” as well
It’s a pipe dream but I wish I could be your personal Uriah Heep advisor, HAHAHA.
70's Scorpions are definitely a good place to go.
70's SCORPIONS!!!! ULI ROTH BABY!!!
Try listening to July Morning Live in Birmingham 1973. You can hear Gary Thain's crazy bass lines.
RIP Gary Thain,bass player & a Kiwi
Great stuff!!! Uriah Heep has a style/sound that is reminiscent of Deep Purple.
Some other great Uriah Heep songs to check out, Sunrise, The Wizard, Stealing, Lady In Black.
Noooo you missed Lady in Black 😱 ... if you ever go back to Uriah Heep that's number 1!!!
ok lock it in!
And RAINBOW DEMON 👌🏻
Simpathy
Uriah Heep rules
First time listening July Morning circa 1987, I feel I was last generation to hear this song but I was wrong at all.
Fantastic band! Which "July Morning" Bernie Shaw and Non Byron? Congratulations for the reaction
You listened to a lesser version of July Morning, the absolute best version is from Uriah Heep Live '72.
Uriah Heep agreat band one of my favorite bands great singer great lyrics
100% lady in black. when they play it live the entire band sit on the front of the stage and play it with acoustic guitars.
Hi Kira, Your hair looks great 👍
Lady in Black, you will love it....& that chap who recommended the Scorpions-Sails of Charon, unique track with the guitar solo first up out of the blocks, stunning!
Someday you could react to pre metal like Blue Cheer who were the LOUDEST band of the 60s. I liked them but a friend thought they were Blue Shite. Out of Focus is a good one by them.
oh yes go even FURTHER back to the 60s! I'm sure I'd like it!
Do you want to have a "peculiar" experience in the metal world? try the following:

Music: Balls to the Wall (album Balls to the Wall)
Music: Metal Heart (album Metal Heart)
