    That was a good video as always. I like the two camera angles. Your comment about having so much room kind of made me chuckle. Your analogy of cranking the landing gear towards the truck when you’re leaving with the trailer and towards the back of the trailer when you’re leaving without the trailer.

  • @franktaylor5798
    @franktaylor5798 4 года назад +3

    Yeah the trailer air lifting the landing gear is a great idea as long as your trailer is air ride. Even though I'm a Reefer driver now (yes, I finished my training in my trainers truck and passed the test out phase) I only actually ran one reefer run with my trainer who was dry van. The one thing I noticed is that all of the dry van trailers that I pulled were all springs. When I hooked up the the reefer trailer it was a noticeable difference with the air ride, especially when we got some weight on it.

    Just a friendly word of advice, I been otr for almost 17 years, after you check the jaws and crank the landing gear an inch or two up always tug test, the jaws can look closed but not be latched have seen it happen hundreds of times over the years, always a good idea to tug anytime after you leave your truck just to be safe also

    Here’s a tip for dropping trailers I never see anyone talk about. If your trailer in equipped with a suspension dump valve, sometimes it happens automatically when you set the trailer parking brake sometimes there is a valve near the landing gear or near the release valve for sliding your tandems. If you have the automatic dump get your trailer backed in set your trailer brake only and take your foot of the brake pedal, as the trailer air bags deflate the whole truck will move forward a few inches then set your truck brake and proceed to unhook the way you normally do. If you don’t have the auto dump you would set your trailer brake only get out and flip your dump valve.
    This process will release tension on your fifth wheel lock jaws making it easier to pull the pin. Also if your trailer is loaded and you leave it with air in the suspension it will slowly leak out and eventually deflate and it will want to push forward which will put stress on the landing gear potentially damaging it.

      A very few number of places actually do that, but for the most part it is more work for them to track every single trailer and what spot it is in and where it has been moved to over and over compared to just having the driver find it.

    JJ I am afraid you are going to get hurt very bad or worse some day the very very last thing you do is pull your fifth wheel release handle when dropping a trailer you pulled that handle before you cranked down your legs When you drop a trailer you crank your legs down first then you disconnect your pigtail & airlines then you pull your fifth wheel release then you slowly pull out from under the trailer and leave the frame of the tractor under the trailer in case the dolly legs don’t hold and you have to hook up to it again that’s how I was taught but your backing was good

    WHY DO ALL PRIME DRIVERS HAVE SUPER SINGLES? I DONT AGREE, BC IF A DRIVE TIRE GOES FLAT, YOURE STRANDED TIL A SERVICE TRUCK ARRIVES AT THE SITE.

      Fuel savings

    • @JJtheTrucker
      @JJtheTrucker  4 года назад +1

      Yes, that is one down side of the super singles, though I've driven on them flat and didn't damage the rim or spray shrapnel everywhere.
      Other than that one disadvantage, they have many more advantages, including fuel savings, less chance of blowout and better traction and control in bad weather. Plus, 1 SS costs less than 2 duals.

      A lot of people say they do t like SS's but never explain why, other than the whole limping thing.
      I do t understand what you mean about not getting out and pre tripping the trailer. Of course I do.

    No tug test doesn't make sense. You claim that it binds up the landing gear. After you back under, the landing gear should be off the ground. Bad advice.

    • @JJtheTrucker
      @JJtheTrucker  Год назад +1

      Unfortunately most people don't know how to properly drop a trailer. They put the landing gear down too far, so after you back under, the landing gear is still on the ground. If you do a visual check, there's no need for a tug test.
