Hello Charlie! Really nice video. I was wondering if you can share some details of the boat ("Krista & Magan") I see in there. Any idea who is the manufacture and where it is build? Thanks a lot!
I will have to get back to you on hull type and where it was made. But the rest of the work was don by Cheticamp Boat builders. They did a grate job on everything. They may not be the cheapest company you could go with but the quality of there work is worth it. Ps I don't work there or anything they just did a great job on the boat. If they did a bad job I would have no problem telling you.
Sadly no. I don't like waste but when the crab are put aboard the boat they release a black liquid. (Not sure exactly what it is, but if the crab dies it will go through the meat and ruin it.) This black liquid ends up at the bottom of the fish hold, with the crab legs and water that makes it way down there. I use rubber gloves if I have to unload them, if not it will hurt your hands, it is like a mild acid, it may even make your skin peal off.
hello...i have questions why are u throwing some crabs back into the water..? are they infected or doesnt meet a type of standard or something? do they have to look a certain way for u guys to keep them?
Hi. The main reason you see us throwing them back is because they don't need a size requirement to keep. If you look you may see a silver thing in my hand. It is a gauge that goes across there back to see if they are legal to keep or not. We also get carbs that have trackers on them, we record the number and location, then return them to the water. Also if you look at the size of the mesh on the trap. It is that size to allow females and smaller carbs to escape more easily.
Ya this is a sustainable industry. The fisherman must pay for scientific studies for the population in the fished area. Based on there findings the allowable catch is determined for the following year. To be honest to lobster and crab fish it is hard to believe how much can be caught in an area and not affect the catch for the next days, weeks or years.
Very good!
snow crab the best there is

Do other countries play by these rules of throwing them back countries that over fish like China.
who is not overfish, all countries do that, undersized fish and shellfish can't be landed that's all....

where is your restaurant? and how much do you use per month on a regular basis?
Yummy!
Is this sustainable?

PS all the crabs you see are meat a size requirement, and are male. The females are smaller and must be returned.
thats not snow crab really
Ya, where I live we fish for snow crab. They are fished off the coast of Nova Scotia, Canada.
is there a difference between snow and spider crab? what about king crab?
@Greater fallout but are snow and spider the same species ?
