what I really like is your way of fishing which is sustainable, you respect the sea by giving back the smaller crabs! I hope everyone learn in every sea to respect this rules for all the creatures because the majority of the species are in danger today. Also respect for this white hair people that are still working with devotion! cheers!
It is the law. Very heavy fines if you get caught with a short crab. I California King Salmon must be 27 inches for a commercial boat to keep and the fishermen use single barbless hooks one per line so a short fish can be released unharmed without taking it out of the water.
This video should be titled 'Old Men on an Old Boat Snow Crabbing' and Still GettingEr Done. OH YA! Gotta have that 101 proof pain killer arthritis medicine on board for sure. I think the Snow Crab is the best tasting of all crab. Cheers...
First taste of a king crab for me was at the NCO club at Elmendorf AFB when I was @ 6yrs old. If I was still in Alaska I'd be dating or best friends with somebody at this level of fishing experience. ~engineeringtechnicianATx
alaskawill As I'm reading all the comments, I realized how ignorant some of these people are. The majority of them knows nothing about crabbing. They don't realize that there are rules and regulations for this type of commercial fishing. Anyways, I did enjoy the video very much. Good job.
i …. just …. don't… know … how…. this…. is …an efficient way of crabbing!!!!! jesus christ!!! its a good thing american crab fishermen aren't allowed in this armchair fishery. is there no incentive to haul gear fast here or on any sort of schedule ? it would take a year to put in what we catch in alaska in a month (1 million lbs. of opies) I'm curious how this works in canada?
SirLobsterman because pots are about 300 to 400 pounds one empty pot .. to handle and too dangerous for one crew I ex work at 120 ft vessel with the king crab about 24 years ago . The pot is 700 lbs. king crab operator required to have 8 crews ...our shrimp pot is 15 lbs I have 250 pot. I am a shrimper/ owner ...I am one operator pots pulled pot and lease shrimp from bottom of pot into basket..I am from Alaska

The arrogant know-alls below don't realise they're sneering at hobbyists. Have at it, boys. Have fun.
Morbius1963
Agreed.
Wouldn't want to work on that crew lol
Good
I know you guys handle them pretty quick, but do you get pinched every once in awhile.. especially the guy with the ruler..
Why are they throwing some back into the water?Didn't they meet the standard?
Phoo Zone it’s under size on snow crab then throw them into water and let them grow bigger ....The measure required by law
They pinch here and there, but not that hard...

Yep, ya gotta watch yourself ever now and then.
What's the average ratio of ok size vs too small approx ?
I want to go fishing like this. Where is it?

Never mind give it a decade or so and you won't have any crab at all...to go along with your lack of universal health care
AKtrojan100 this must be a hobby for them. they obviously don't care about efficiency; and they're getting drunk "on the job".
January
wow, you need 5 people to do the work of 2 lol

That's one inefficient crew, the setup up sucks. Would never want to haul many pots with this boat ...
On The Green In Tw o
On The Green In Two VT
This has to be the most inefficient and disorganized boat and crew I have seen on you tube.
Blocks to high lines to short no table. Come to nova scotia will show. You how to rig a 🚢 you amateurs
rookies!
This not safe because crew put rope roller it’s too high !! Too strong Wave to make rough on Vessel ..the crew will fall overboard ..
Clown show...
Stop talking about your family, Russ!
