Honestly, its ridiculous they haven't fixed this yet. AAA title developer and they cant fix a core component of a racing game such and getting wheel bases to function properly without having to use a almost 4 year old driver. Too busy banning livery's and making stupid playground games that seem geared towards 12 year old's. Thanks for this video. I had rolled back my driver some time ago and it does work if anyone is using a CSL or in my case a DD!. If any of you are using a DD!, what setting (in game) and on the wheel base are you using? I have tried spending hours tweaking my wheel to get a good feel and it just still seems mushy and "floaty" Im sure some of it has to do with the drivers. When i did play a few times with the newest driver the wheel did feel a bit better but I never had enough time to test settings as I would just crash 5 min into loading in. It seems all the G920 and Thrustmaster folks ive talked to have such smooth wheel operation but a 1200 dollar direct drive they cant seem to manage figuring out 6 months into launch of the game. Ill keep testing and tuning it to see what i can come up with. Share your settings here if you are a DD! user to help each other out. And keep submitting bug reports to the devs and post on their forums. Im sure they don't care to fix an issue like this since they seem to have no desire to make it happen in any of the patches so we need to keep pressing them. Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I know it will help a lot of people as yours is the best demonstration video and really simple steps for ppl that may not have much knowledge on their wheel firmware.
Thanks for this excellent tutorial. This finally fixed the issue I had with this game crashing on me constantly. Every single time I entered a race or cruised around for about 5 minutes, during the race or cruise, I would crash. After using the info from this video, I was finally able to finish 2 consecutive races with no issues then cruise around without the game crashing.

Well, This actually works! I can reset all graphics and other settings to full or default because the problem was the driver.
Tested the other sim games as well but all seem to work the same as before as with the latest driver.
So who has to fix it , Fanatec or Forza?
I feel like each company will say the other had to fix it, but based on my understanding, it seems as though Forza is the one requiring the old drivers.
doesn't the csl dd come with a compatibility mode that you switch on the on/off button of the wheel base?
It does, but the issue here isn’t the wheel, it’s the drivers installed to your computer that convert the wheel signal to something the game can understand

I have fanatec csl dd for xbox and i can't play forza horizon 4 and forza motorsport 7 because of the horrible steering delay, please help (assetto corsa works perfectly)

now fanalab wont launch. its saying, "install driver package V352 or higher." any ideas?
I haven’t used fanalab. But you could try v352. It’s old enough it might still be compatible. If that doesn’t work you could always try an older version of fanalab or use the control panel/tuning button on the wheel to configure your settings. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful. Maybe somebody from the community will have another idea.
I have tried absolutely everything including this to get my CSL DD to work on forza 5 but I have yet to find anything to allow my device to connect to the game. It works on every other sim including forza 4 PERFECTLY but forza 5 after HOURS of videos, articles and fourms It still does not want to connect. PLease help I thought that this would fix the issue but when I click on the properties page to reconfigure my wheel it doesn't even recognize any of the movements or button presses. I have also tried to set it up through the VJoy emulator to no avail please help me out if you can because I have been dying to drift on FH5 using a wheel.
I am so sorry this hasn’t worked for forza 5 for you. In these cases, it makes me curious if the issue is either hardware specific, or possibly a different issue from the drivers. Unfortunately I haven’t experienced this issue myself so I am not sure how I can provide further direction
@@lonnixlethe I honestly think that it is a disconnect between the steam drivers and the game in my case because I downloaded forza 5 through game pass and my CSL DD works but it has no FFB sadly so if you know anyway to enable FFB through the windows/microsoft drivers that would be very helpful if not all good I might be able to figure it out eventually because I really want to fucking drift

@@kornizy I finally did end up getting it to work after watching South Street Media's video (Finally Playing FORZA HORIZON 5 With My FANATEC CSL DD!! | How To Get Forza Horizon 5 Working CSL DD) and updating the fanatec driver to 440 or 441 and then launched the game with PC COMP mode the yellow one on and it just worked perfectly ngl
hello i have tried everything to make my csl dd work and nothing works i bought the game on steam and i can't play it can someone help me to make it work? 😭
Please try to use the driver versions indicated in the video to fix your problem. If you use the most recent drivers with Forza than it likely will introduce the freezing and crashing
I never had any problems with my Fanatec DD2 (PC Mode) in Forza Horizon 4. FH 5, on the other hand, is a disaster.
I am curious, when did you play FH4? If it was right when it came out, you may have still had the compatible drivers installed. I haven't checked the most recent drivers yet, but when I started playing FH4 a few months ago, it was still having this issue.
@@lonnixlethe I bought FH4 shortly after it came out. My steering wheel I bought in Dec. 2020 and of course also directly installed the latest firmware and drivers. I think I had to run my DD2 in Comp. V2.5 mode, but never had problems with crashes in the game.
For some reasons the driver Panel dosen`t let met change from Pc mode to Comp v2.5. And when i switch it to comp mode (with my wheel) it dosn`t let me open the driver panel (got to be pc mode for it to open).

If you have the ‘tuning’ button on your wheel, that has worked for me the one time I was unable to open the driver panel. Didn’t make the association that was due to the mode. Thanks for sharing!
Anyone knows if this also works with Fanatec dd pro+GT Wheel?
I don't have a DD Pro so can't test it, but as long as it's compatible with the older version of the software then I imagine it would work. Sorry for not being able to provide a more definitive answer on the topic.
Uninstall the latest driver? Are they taking game development seriously? It's a joke. Richard Burns Rallye from 2004 has no issues running the latest driver and several devices
I agree it’s not ideal. But it did work for me and seems to work for numerous others as well. So far it’s the only fix I’ve found that makes the game functional with the wheel.
Now if we could just get the CSL DD to work with Star Citizen with force feedback.

I can double check next time I am in game but I believe the configuration is something like CSL 2.5. I don’t recall seeing anything about DD or Direct Drive in the profile settings
Makes no difference. It has to be something different since I played for 100’s of hours without crashing on the new driver and then it always crashed. Then tried using the old one and still crashing.
I am sorry to hear that this didn't work for you. Maybe in your case the cause is something different. Though for myself and many many others, the main source of freezing and crashing is the PC drivers. Although, if I hear of another cause of this problem I will reply to this comment and let you know.
OK, so its great you have found a working solution but it just feels wrong lol.. How will degrading to 346 firmware impact other games? Currently playing assetto and dirt aswell and dont want to mess with the feeling in those games.
I also play ACC and F1 2021 and this fix hasn’t messed up either of those games. Unfortunately I can’t speak to AC or dirt, though if your experience is the same as mine, it seems it would likely also work, especially given these are also older games that were out when this 346 version was released. I do understand the reservation to going backwards to an old version. Although, I may be biased, but I have been enjoying forza so much with the wheel I think it’s worth it.

thanks for the video but the later drivers have improved the wheels significantly to the point where downgrading them is not an option
I hope so because I did this a few days ago. Can anyone else confirm on a csl dd?
My question is if the most recent drivers also fixed the compatibility issue. If not, having these improvements won't help if the game constantly freezes or crashes.
@@lonnixlethe The game recognises the wheel in 2.5 compat mode but still crashes. I agree with original comment, it isn't worth downgrading the firmware every time you want to play horizon. It just isn't practical and wheel response feels floaty (for the limited time i had to test)
@@nostromoni9752 I am sorry to hear it still crashes for you. Though I do wonder if you’ve downgraded to the correct version maybe it’s something else besides the wheel that’s still causing it to crash. If you are able to fix the crashing problem, Forza does have an advanced wheel configuration page which likely would fix the ‘floaty’ problem you’ve described. I do remember I had to fiddle with the advanced settings before it felt right for me. Sorry I can’t be of more help and I hope you are able to get it figured out.
