Congrats on the new watch. The Spitfire has recently caught my attention as a size-friendly option to the classic IWC silhouettes. Would love to have a big pilot but man.. they’re big.
I have 11 IWC watches including Big Pilot 5002 and vintage Portugieser from 1949 (34 mm). I think they are equally great sizes. They are just different. I also have 6,5 inch wrist and no problems at all: 34 mm vs. 46,2 mm.
Try it at the store first. I see the lug to lug is nearly 50mm. I bought the little reissue of the Hamilton W10. It was put head to head against this IWC in a Hodinkee article. It’s called the Hamilton Pilot Pioneer but it’s basically the W10 reissue. A 1:1 reissue of the 1973 original. It has been the perfect daily watch. It has lost about -1.2 sec a day. I made a custom leather strap for it. What an amazing watch. At a fraction of the IWC price. It’s 36mm. Lug to lug is 41mm. Nice and compact. Exactly like the original.
I recently inherited my grandfather's Army-issued watch from WWII (he served in the Philippines). I love the streamlined, minimalistic style of military and military-inspired watches. Once you start thinking about it, it's kind of crazy how many iconic fashion things come from military design (trench coat, combat boots, camouflage pattern, etc.)
The Spitfire is a nice watch. I own a Mark XVIII myself and I love it! I have heard that IWC will be releasing a Mark XX soon with the "in house" movement and a 120 hour power reserve. It's also supposed to have that quick change strap changing option and it's going to have a shorter lug to lug distance. I saw this on Reddit and apparently they are already showing these at the IWC ran boutiques.
@@hespokestyle It hasn't been "officially" released yet but if you are close to an IWC owned boutique I would call them and ask. I have been looking for it on the IWC website but it hasn't shown up yet.

I own a IWC Mark XV that I bought over 22 years ago with the first batch of money I had to spend on a real watch. I’d wanted an earlier Mark since I was a kid but they didn’t make them anymore. I still love my IWC and although I own a dozen other watches now, I still find I wear the IWC almost every day. It’s a great watch and it’s almost indestructible. You can’t go wrong with an IWC Pilot based watch, which one is just a matter of choice. Enjoy!
I got the spitfire Chrono in bronze last year. Never considered an IWC before, but I went in the boutique on a whim right after almost getting an omega. Took one look and knew it was coming home with me.
I was given the chronograph version of this watch fifteen years ago. It was a reliability disaster costing 750€ several times to have repaired. I'm pleased that I was able to unload it, and I now have a Alpina Quartz chrono that looks very similar. Honestly do not believe the expensive product placement adverts, only Quartz watches are reliable.
What did IWC say to you? Was it out of warranty when you had to have it serviced? Sounds like you might have got a bad watch and I would hope that the brand would have helped out. Also, this is not a "product placement" for the IWC Spitfire. I'm promoting eBay's service.

After 5 minutes of panic, I realized they had packed it separately in a clear plastic box. Since it was wrapped in white paper, I thought it was just packing material. I do agree, the Hamilton was a little smaller than I expected. Thank you for the information on the authenticity guarantee from Ebay (one of the few times I didn't skip ahead). The Spitfire looks good on you.
Earthtones are everywhere in this video. 🤌Congratulations on the Spitfire. Once I saw Spitfire in the title I knew your military background would have been one of the motivations. I'm looking to get the IWC Portugieser Automatic Rose Gold. Love that watch!
Firstly thank for your service and secondly I've been wanting to see you with a field/military style watch for ages. I can't wait to see outfit videos with it. It really appeals to me because last Christmas I got a lovely 38mm Hamilton Khaki field mechanical field watch and I love to death. That and the spitfire are very similar so great buy!
I don’t really consider it fauxtina since only some components are “faded.” It almost seems more like a color palette choice to mimic the plane. Beautiful!
Hi Brian, thanks for the update! I had recently bought the Spitfire Chronograph and I'm absolutely loving it. Can I ask if you had considered that watch, and if so, what made you go for the Automatic version instead of the Chronograph?
I also have the Spitfire Chrono... love it! I always considered IWC Pilots and wanted to add one to my collection but couldn't make up my mind. TopGuns are too expensive and Petit Princes too shiny.. so it had to be a Spitfire. And because of size it was between the Chrono and the date-only. Tried on both and chose the former.. couldn't be happier.
Lovely watch, as a brand, iwc are number 1 for me, just love the look of all their watches. I own a mark 18 in black, it's so versatile and is by far my favourite watch. Iwc watches are very classy, enjoy your spitfire.
I own the same watch myself and I love the simplicity and easy to read dial. With the watch being minimalist as it is I find that it looks great on just about any strap you put it on. So it's easy to dress up a bit or make it a bit more sporty, depending on the occasion. Great review of a beautiful watch.
Thanks for making this video. It helps folks like me still on the fence. Now that you’ve had the Spitfire for a while what do you think of the lug to lug and how it wears on your wrist? Any other issue that stands out now that you’ve been using this?
The only thing I don't really like is the thickness of the NATO. If my style was overall more casual I'd probably get a lot more use and wear out of this watch, but after the honeymoon period, I'm wearing it much less now.
I’ve been debating getting this and I’d only be able to if I sold my Seiko sje093 62mas recreation and I just can’t. It’s too beautiful and limited. I’ll have to wait for now.
Congrats, great watch! I prefer the Spitfire too, that 1mm does make a big difference, especially on a watch that is all dial. There are three things I wish IWC would do with this, lume all the numerals, blue the hands and offer a 37-38mm option. I'm wearing a 39mm Damasko DS-30 right now but it has shorter lugs than the IWC so I feel it wears much better, even though they look about the same. Also thank you for your service!
I appreciate you explaining where you were coming from, and why you picked this over something else. The perspective of somebody who clearly knows watches, but is not solely operating a watch channel is nice. For me, the fauxtina, but most importantly the lack of that sweet IWC bracelet is my issue with the Spitfire. I think the size is great though, I love the Spitfire inspiration, and the red line of text is an easy way to cater to my taste. I recently became interested in the Mark XVIII, though the movement for the price was one of my issues. I also got to recently try one on, and although not “too big” for my 7-1/4” wrist, it wore a bit flat with those longer lugs. Unfortunately, the AD Iw as at did not have the Mark XX yet. That shaves about 2mm off the lug-to-lug, if I recall. That could make the difference. I also like the longer markers at 3/6/9/12, changes to the hands, and that 5 day power reserve movement is a huge step up. Despite the $750 price increase, it seems like a better value than the XVIII. My only other issue is the Junkers plane on the back is a bit uninspiring. What are your thoughts on the Mark XX?
I have the Spitfire in bronze. I'm not really into bronze watches but this one works really good. And talking about the Rolex 5517 milsub. I have the 5512 which is very similar but not a mil.
Excellent choice and design, but I’m a bit biased. I purchased mine (with leather strap) in 2019. It’s sort of a hybrid field/pilots watch. Pairs well with my olive green strap from Erika’s Originals and my OCP. uniform.
continued......we are developing the Concorde inspired 101 and apart form making the dial tag from the fastestes Concorde every (101) we added colour from the plane. I will try to send you !
Great video. I really considered this as a nice daily wearer. However, I just decided I wanted something more interesting to look at day after day and a little functionality. I ended up going with the black JLC Polaris as it has a timing feature that is useful when BBQing and while still having a simple black dial, it still has some style and looks great on the brown strap. Congrats on your purchase and say hi if you ever make it out to Oahu... lots of ceremonies out here lol
Very nice! I think the one thing that would push me over the edge to buy one of these (might sound silly) would be if all of the numerals were fully lumed.
Thanks for sharing! I beaught this Watch 2 Months ago. Came through this video to your Channel. Watched several videos and you have a new subscriber! I was born 78. So we share a lot. 😄💪🏻
Have been looking at the Big Pilot for a while now but haven't pulled the trigger. I considered the new smaller version of the Big Pilot (43mm vs 46mm) but it looks too much like a bigger Mark rather than a smaller Big Pilot. The Spitfire is a great watch too but I already have more incognito watches and want something a bit bolder now and then. Congrats!
Great video. Did you ever consider the Mark 18 Tribute to Mark 11? That was a limited release from a few years ago. It has the original stick baton hands from the Mark 11. That is 40mm though but the plus side is that you can get the amazing IWC bracelet for it. The bracelet doesn't quite fit the spitfire.
Beautiful timepiece! I love this one and the 43 mm big pilot. I didn't know you were in the army, I thought you worked in finance or something. Yesterday I applied to join the national guard in the French air force.
Hi Brian - congratulations on the new Spitfire. Great minds think alike...I have been debating this watch and another and have it in my "watching" section (unintended pun) in Ebay and favorites in C24. I too prefer the history and sizing of the Spitfire vs Mark XVIII. While I have not served, my father was in the USAF and was a private pilot (later on), flew mostly Cessnas and Beechcraft. Let's see what the future holds....Cheers and wear in good health. 👍⌚
Great Video. Now that we know the improvements to the Mark series with the Mark XX (in-house movement, shorter lugs, etc.), does this change your preference between the Spitfire and the Mark? I'm considering both watches.
I was close to buy the spitfire chronograph but went with the Zenith defy in titanium instead. The skeletonized movement which I could see trough the case back … 😩👌 so nice But I believe the green dial and bronze case is definitely the next one for me……. Just let Christmas come.😏😏
Congrats on this new piece. I hope they put the movement from the spitfire into the Mark XVIII then that could be a pretty compelling option. It would potentially also fix the date window position which is offset on the current version. The Spitfire date window looks aligned with the numerals.
Congrats to the new watch. Stunning! Fits great on your wrist. As IWC just released the mark xx model - what are your thoughts on this model? Would you prefer the mark xx over the spitfire? Or the other way around? 😊 should be online since the 22nd now.
Love this watch and video. Also I love this RUclips set. Is that wall paper on the back wall? I’ve been looking to upgrade my RUclips set and want to do something similar to this.
Good honest review, I am with you on the size, 36mm is quite small, although many of the field watches in the 40's were small. It is good to base the watch on a classic vintage aircraft, but to be honest with you, although keeping it simple is good, they could have just added a little bit more of the spitfire colouration to the dial, otherwise you do not see the connection.
Thanks for more content and thank you for your service! I was a bit puzzled though. Was this video shot months ago? I am confused by the sweater coupled with a suede jacket on a video posting in July. Kuddos to you if you are able to develop enough content where you can work well in advance. I struggle to be a couple of weeks out for my company's social media content. You really look sharp, but with our 97° temps, I was scratching my head. Also, thanks for another engaging video. I want to have confidence in eBay, but just am not there yet. I appreciate the endorsement, sponsored or not.
Is it the authenticity that makes you choose an IWC over a less expensive but similarly styled brand? With these simple watches, what’s the difference that makes you pick them over Hamiltons or Lacos?
Great Video! Really love your content Brian! Looking forward to seeing close-ups of your Longines sector dial 🔥🔥 in the watch collection video! Did you get the Lange 1??
This is a beautiful watch really beautiful 🤩 but I had to go for the Hamilton khaki field black dial 38 , it’s not the the spitfire but much more affordable
Thanks for sharing Brian, congrats on the new addition. I didn't realize the Spitfire has a different case size and in-house movement vs. the Mark XVIII. I currently am scratching this "style itch" in my collection with the Hamilton Khaki Mechanical, but IWC certainly has my eye for the future.
The movement is "in-house" in that's it's made by a Richemont company ValFleurier for IWC, Baume and Mercier, Panerai and probably other brands(it's even stamped VF on the main plate) but IWC themselves don't manufacture this particular movement. All in all it's a great watch, I'll probably buy it when the time (money) comes.
Nice video, but, like many others, this isn’t actually an “in house” movement. That’s not a bad thing, but these marketing claims are often repeated on watch channels and it’s not really true. The 32110 is not “all new IWC”, but an ETA 2892-A2 architecture/clone movement made by ValFleurier. They are owned by Richemont, just like IWC, so the movement used in this watch is produced “in-group”, if you will, but it’s not an IWC movement as such, and it’s not really new or original in most senses of the word.
Definitely a great looking watch! 👍 one question though, doesn’t the watch aesthetically compete with your Seiko 5? Hehe just wondering 🙂. I’m a watch noob, so I’m seeing it more in how to style kinda why ✌️
@@hespokestyle yep 👍 true. Just looked up the watch again 😅 true way busier. Still to me the IWC looks a little bit like a more refined and polished version of a similar design concept. But again no connoisseur at all 😅 hehe.

Thanks for the comment, David. If you're like me, you won't be disappointed by this one.
Great Video. Now that we know the improvements to the Mark series with the Mark XX (in-house movement, shorter lugs, etc.), does this change your preference between the Spitfire and the Mark? I'm considering both watches.
That’s a nice brown jacket. Mind sharing the link for it?
Not at all! Here you go: hespokestyle.com/product/suede-trucker-jacket/
I was close to buy the spitfire chronograph but went with the Zenith defy in titanium instead. The skeletonized movement which I could see trough the case back … 😩👌 so nice
But I believe the green dial and bronze case is definitely the next one for me……. Just let Christmas come.😏😏
Awesome! Enjoy and good luck!
Congrats on this new piece. I hope they put the movement from the spitfire into the Mark XVIII then that could be a pretty compelling option. It would potentially also fix the date window position which is offset on the current version. The Spitfire date window looks aligned with the numerals.
Thanks so much! Appreciate you commenting.
Check the new mark 20.
Know the lug to lug on the spitfire?
50mm
what do u think of the newly release IWC Mark XX? Seems pretty hot with the 120 power reserve :)
Sweet acquisition Brian...wear it in GOOD health 👍
Many thanks!
Congrats to the new watch. Stunning! Fits great on your wrist. As IWC just released the mark xx model - what are your thoughts on this model? Would you prefer the mark xx over the spitfire? Or the other way around? 😊 should be online since the 22nd now.
Nice jacket/ sweater combo! Great watch also.
Got myself the new IWC Mark XX black dial
Love this watch and video. Also I love this RUclips set. Is that wall paper on the back wall? I’ve been looking to upgrade my RUclips set and want to do something similar to this.
Thanks, Tony. It is actually acoustic paneling behind me.
@@hespokestyle Oh. Got a link for me. I would like to look into it for my set. So nice.

Good honest review, I am with you on the size, 36mm is quite small, although many of the field watches in the 40's were small. It is good to base the watch on a classic vintage aircraft, but to be honest with you, although keeping it simple is good, they could have just added a little bit more of the spitfire colouration to the dial, otherwise you do not see the connection.
what do you think of bronze version?
Actually not a fan. Bumps it into the try-too-hard category for me personally.
Awesome looking watch and your content is produced so well. Thank you for your service!
Glad you enjoy it! And thank you!
Thanks, Teddy. The studio is in the basement and we have a long-haired GSD so keep the AC on for her. Thus, it is generally freezing in the studio.
@@hespokestyle Hahaha. That explanation makes so much sense!
I sold my spitfire and bought a mark xv instead. More of a mil spec dial and modern enough to not worry about it
The hour and minute hands are pretty cool on the Mark XV
Is it the authenticity that makes you choose an IWC over a less expensive but similarly styled brand? With these simple watches, what’s the difference that makes you pick them over Hamiltons or Lacos?
Did you watch the video? Like where I said I considered Hamilton and then answered your question? Guessing not.
Congratulations on your new acquisition Brian!
Thanks, Javi!
Great Video! Really love your content Brian! Looking forward to seeing close-ups of your Longines sector dial 🔥🔥 in the watch collection video! Did you get the Lange 1??
Unfortunately, still no Lange 1. Maybe a retirement gift to myself?
This is a beautiful watch really beautiful 🤩 but I had to go for the Hamilton khaki field black dial 38 , it’s not the the spitfire but much more affordable
Great choice.
@@hespokestyle yeah the Hamilton range is really great value, but the spitfire is the real prize, maybe 🤔 one day
OK, nowypu have to pair it if not possible with a supermarine spitfire at least with a Triumph spitfire!
Field watches & divers are my favorite watches
🤟🏻
Wonderful watch and design. It is a very nice field watch. Congratulations!
Awesome! Wish you all the best!
Great video. What about the bronze spitfire?
It’s cool but not for me.
@@hespokestyle have you looked at the Tudor black bay ceramic?
Blimmin love this watch! Great choice, wear it in good health! :)
Thanks so much! 🍸
Fantastic watch! Always like the Flieger style pilot watch. Enjoy it in good health and thank you for your service 👍🏼Cheers 🥂
Wilco! Appreciate the comment, as always.
I have my eyes on an Omega Speedmaster myself with a jeweler who has one in his display.
It's a great watch.
Awesome video 👍 congratulations on your new watch ❤️
Thank you 🤗
Good choice. I still love Ingenieur you had.
Just got one. It's amazing.
Thanks for chiming in.
Did I miss you talking about flieger types and how this really is a type A flieger dial design?
No.
Definitely a great looking watch! 👍 one question though, doesn’t the watch aesthetically compete with your Seiko 5? Hehe just wondering 🙂. I’m a watch noob, so I’m seeing it more in how to style kinda why ✌️
Oh, not at all. The Seiko 5 is quite busy by comparison. (And smaller.)
@@hespokestyle yep 👍 true. Just looked up the watch again 😅 true way busier. Still to me the IWC looks a little bit like a more refined and polished version of a similar design concept. But again no connoisseur at all 😅 hehe.
IWC will usually give a 20% discount, btw. Or at least an AD, maybe not a boutique.
What's an AD? any recommendations on where to go for a cheaper price?
I fail to see why you think the fauxtina is “better” on this watch than others. It isn’t to me. But nice video.
Yess more watch content!
You like?
Thank You for the video and for your service!

Beautiful piece ⌚
Thank you! Cheers!
Congratulations. I really love the watch too.
Thank you so much.
Fantastic watch!! Congrats….
And fantastic video by the way…!
Thank you kindly! Appreciate the nice words!
Thank you and great looking watch.
Thanks, as always, Ron.
Congratulations on the beautiful watch Brian! Did Top Gun have anything to do with the purchase? 😂 - Han
Thanks, Han!
A Swiss watch made by a company most famous for supplying watches to the Luftwaffe named for its bane in the Spitfire.
Do you know what time it is?
Style time?
@@hespokestyle 💯
eBAY authenticity guarantee does not apply to APO addresses but they dont tell you that. I fell victim to buying a fake Cartier Santos for near MSRP. After 180 days I found out the watch was a high grade fake but by then any and all protections ended.
