It sounds silly, but with the civic, physically check your ignition switch. Ive had one go bad from vibration over the years and cause intermittent cutting out...replacing my ignition solved the issue.
id be surprised if he was still using the column switch for ignition. usually at this point, you'd be running a switch bar for safety and ease of troubleshooting
A common issue on the K engine swaps is the TPS.(throttle position sensor) Try using a B series TPS, that's what has been winning part for the K swap guys I know. After that, the car was dead reliable.
For a track car that usually would be too much of a hassle, the heavier part are the seats and those can't go back in, door panels and insulation doesn't weigh much at all, hence why stripping a road car is pretty stupid since it won't get faster. The floormat is a potential fire hazard and random panels would make it more cumbersome if they need to access the area for whatever reason.
Metal door cards would add something I suppose, but something like abs, a dry sump, or a surge tank would honestly be better additions then the interior back, especially considering the heavy parts of the interior was the seats, even a bigger fuel cell would probably help more.
To the best of my understanding there are two reasons. 1. Having an Interior can be a fire hazard in racecars and 2. Having the weigh placed low and close to the center is more advantageous that having weight higher up if he put back in his interior
Nah, I looked it up, it’s for fire safety. Back in the 60s when the law went into effect fuel fires were more common. It’s not so much an issue now but the New Jersey law is because of fire safety/public health

the 24 Hours of Lemons races at NJMP ever year, and we always have to deal with that fuel pumping issue. it's annoying, but what's america known for if not really strange laws?
I'm eager to see how the MR2 performed in its final form, cause I still believe it needs harded springrates (especially since you went with much higher weight than stock), judging from the footage so far.
Basic question. Is there a reasonbBen isnt running a nice big wing on the MR-S? I know there definitely benefits and no splitter either. Is this like a process thing?
This was tackled in the previous video. Basically aero parts will affect the balance of performance. Same reason why the MR2 requires 300 lb of ballast to run a theoretical 230 HP in the race.
You guys should have known by now that tuning on the dyno is far away from tuning on the drive. In fact, it can be two different tunes for the same car...
Very interesting testing data, it would be great to add to the equation also the driving performance for each lap/session which can be provided by @vprating. It also provides the true sustained lateral, acceleration and braking Gs so you would have instantly an idea of what is going on.! Can't wait for the door to door action as well!!
i've been wondering bout weight distribution. So Ben, tell me how if... you move the plate carrier to frunk? Would it affect your front grip? It'll be easier to reduce oversteering issue i guess....?
The ballast is need cause the front of car in MR S is very light than the rear, need more grip on front wheel to make it stable and the wheel base from MR S is too short from factory, that make it very agile and not stable if you push hard
One thing you guys should speak about more is how much your back must be killing you after wrenching on your broken Civic all day, and then you have to get in the car and drive it hard.
Hey Ben T, On my K series engines, I've had to replace the coilpack pigtail connectors due to the wires cracking internally and causing inconsistencies. You probably won't be able to diagnose it bc the break in the wire can happens on and off (usually stops working due to vibrations in the engine at running speeds). Also another common issue that can occur is the TPS going out with vibrations of aftermarket motor mounts. Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do about preventing it unless you want to go back to stock motor mounts to soak up the vibrations.
Seems like it would make way more sense to reduce power (detune and run lower octane gas in the MR2) and reduce the ballasts, then add a big wing. The car is just not as aero as corvettes, so it will never match their top speeds, regardless of power/weight ratio. Better to just double down on what the MR2 is already good at.
