@@Sonicfalcon16 its so weird, its not like there's much to learn. Martial artist nomad like dude travelling the world to hone his skills and learn from other fighters while suppressing a dark power. None of the SF characters personally relevant to Ryu are even in this game so they dont gotta worry about extra stuff like his dynamics and interactions with them either. Him and Hulk are a cool combo, just keep highlighting that really.

Please enter a name that didn’t bother me. What bothered me is that they just stopped to the action to do it instead of letting it happen naturally, like Dante drops one and Rocket catches it as the two shoot down another.

The one saving grace is Ryu and Hulk hanging out which is honestly super cool. They could make a great dynamic with helping each other control their rages. I wish we had more of that but much like everything else in this snooze fest of a story, it’s all wasted potential.

Well, ryu is constantly searching for new ways to improve his technique and achieve greater strength by fighting whoever is willing. If you call all fighting "experimenting" then yes, Ryu is a scientist.

The likely intention is that he was there to help Bruce keep calm. Which, given the Satsui no Hado and the other power Ryu has, that makes at least some sense.

Anyone else so bothered by how Black Panther says “Valkanda” as if he just...instantly accepted the merge as his new life now?? This really highlights the main problems Max said in the previous video where the story pretty much begins in the fucking climax with everyone banding together and not the first act showcasing the heroes meeting BEFORE the merge, Y’know like how a competent story should be written.
Sometimes it feel like they made this story like it was a sequel to previous games, so they already know each other but the worlds never merged like this, buuuut that's dumb as fuck since the other games never had a proper story to make this work
You do know this story is happening some 88 days after the merging happened, right? BP had time to deal with.
And no, you don't have to start "everyone meeting eveyone" to be a "competent" story. Most people who bought the game have been playing MvC for some 20 years, so they just want to see the characters team up and do cool stuff together. We don't need to go through all the "Hello, I'm Ryu. Tell me more about these Avengers" because then you'd have to wait for the moments like this Ryu/Hulk combo. MK X throws you into a big battle Shinnok's demons at the start and later doesn't give any scenes of Cassie meeting Takeda for the first time either.
@@CalciumChief Your missing the point. We as the players are dropped into the "Climax" of the story. We as the viewers know the characters, but to suddenly hear things like "Valkanda" and "Xgard" just suddenly be said to be a thing with not context, story of emotional explanation is plain and simple bad storytelling. The fact that your saying people played MvC for years now does not recitfy this as again there is no context for all of this to be accepted.
MKX had an established story before shinnoks invasion and clear cut reason why everything was happening and what led up to that point. MVC:I doesn't. And for the record, as someone who's played Mvc for a while now, its a little insulting to have it just assumed that people like me wouldn't enjoy an actual story with development between the character and only need to the combat to be satisfied.
That's because the game had a tie-in prequel comic, which they were advertising _before_ the game's release
@@CalciumChief This is a defensible stance. But, it would be fun for the characters to officially "meet" each-other in story. One of the highlights of Dragon Ball FighterZ was seeing characters like Cell and Frieza who have never met interact. It was in fact one of the very few draws it's story mode had. Marvel vs Capcom would have benefited from having similar interactions. Lean on their histories and find parallels between the various characters in order to create interesting angles for conversation. Marvel vs Capcom is dry as hell, with such highlights as "hey Arthur" and "hey Thor". The Ryu vs Hulk moment had potential, just to use one example. Ryu attempting to teach Hulk/Banner mental discipline would have been a decent and potentially funny interaction.
For anyone asking in the comments asking why Max said VALkanda instead of Wakanda, most of MvCI stages are fusions between locations of Marvel and Capcom, and Valkanda is a mix of Wakanda and VAL HABAR, a location from Monster Hunter 4 and 4 Ultimate.

Yeah it's really weird, because in those character breakdown video's it is indeed true that the marvel character beat up capcom characters but when you have capcom characters they beat up capcom characters as well. But most of the gameplay trailers had like a decent mix of MvC characters or CvM characters. The only video where that is not the case is the one where spider-man is introduced.

It's just so weird that marvel would be so specific about character breakdowns, but gameplay trailers are generally fine (with the exception for gameplay trailer 4 I believe) and even the story mode it's not that one sided tbh.
hell the character breakdowns are probably the least watched official MVC:I videos as well.

This story is so bad it’s hilarious. You won’t regret sticking around.
I bought the game a week ago cause it was dirt cheap and my morbid curiosity got the better of me. It was jarring to get through the story to say the least. Gameplay of the game didn't seem too bad, kinda simple on a base level, but compared to any of the other MvC games (especially 3 Ultimate) the game seemed REALLY half baked and had "Marvel cash grab" written all over it.
@AT Productions maybe, but at least the older titles are fun/memorable cash grabs. They let Capcom have more fun back when Marvel was broke asf and going bankrupt.

I find it so strange that in the amount of times Capcom put Ryu and Chun-Li next to each other or close to one another, they almost *never* interact. They were both the poster team for SFxT, they are both used in a lot of posters and promo material, they are currently both the faces of SF5 Champion edition (with Gill) but the legit only times i see them even look at each other was in SF5 after Ryu defeated Necalli, when he straight up „Hadouken‘d“ her while she carried a child and in the SF Alpha movie, and that‘s it.

I remember seeing Dah'ren Moran appearing and first thinking "cool are we gonna get giant bosses like in Subspace Emisarry in Super Smash Brothers Brawl?" But then when I saw you just fight drones again while Dah'ren Moran is rampaging in the background. I was disappointed. This isn't the last time it happens in the story either. M.O.D.O.K, the symbiote monster in the city, and Grandmaster Meio were all instances of that.
They could have recycled the end fight from MvC3, too. It could also prepare you for the final battle vs Giant Ultron Sigma. But naah fight more drones

people talked about this years before and still I think that's really strange line. the writer only needed to add two or three words like, "I was part of a research mission, protecting those scientists studying anomalies caused by convergence of our two universes." and I presume that's what he was tried to mean for.
or maybe not, because everyone in marvel knows science. probably even kid spiderman can explain what exactly general relativity and super string theory are. and this version of Ryu is probably having degree of archaeology for ancient Hado civilization or something, which trained and used Shoto masters in war to build and expand the largest empire in mysterious unknown field of human history. it's marvel, probably some unexplained crazy backstory would be in there hidden.
Even Spidey is a genius too tbh.
Ryu does travel to different worlds a lot. Maybe he started taking a conscious effort in what was going with himself

The Scenes with Ryu and Hulk Was the only good part and deserves their own spin-off
Max says exaclty what I've been saying for years, it has the bone structure for a decent story with awesome moments, but the execution for like 80 to 90% of the time is either wonky or just bad. And the ingame cutscenes before and after the fights look pretty dope tbh.
This is the new thing that makes me smile when I look in my subscriptions.

One thing I will say about the voice direction in this game is how hilarious the attack moves being called out now are. Something about the way Ryu screams "TATSUMAKI SENPUUUKYAK" in MvCI never gets old.

Did... Ryu’s Shinku-Hadouken always look that weak in this game? All things aside of the weird character models, how do you get something as easy as Ryu’s level 1 super looking bad? Looks about as impactful as Captain Marvel’s regular lasers.
Edit: 12:25 THIS looks like a good Shin-Hadouken. The thickness, the impact especially, the build up, how it looks like half the thing isn’t even hitting since the energy is so out of control and dispersing everywhere.

Maybe this game should've taken a page from brawl and gone the "everyone's mostly mute for this romp" route lol. All they do is say each others names and a cheesy line here.
Brawl was definitely done well, it was a nice silent film. World of Light sucked ass though and I hope they do another story on the same level as Brawl's someday
Brawl's story mode is bad for it's own reasons, but it's a hell of a lot better than this shit.
Well the characters in Smash aren’t the real versions. Just toys come to life with the memories of the characters they represent and they’re fully aware of that fact. A bunch of Buzz Lightyears.
I think the idea of the whole "Ryu researching anommalies" is that he was more of a bodyguard who may be able to give some ideas if the animalies have something to do with Chi/Spirit Energy/whatever is called here.
Ryu: "I like science."
MVCI would have been great if they didn't recycle 90% of the roster and filled it with obscure Capcom and Marvel characters. People wouldn't have complained about the lack of X-Men as much with their attention drawn to learning new characters.
Ironically, literally that is Marvel vs Capcom, the first game had characters that nobody knew at this point in CAPCOM side, many didn't know where Morrigan belongs, the 2 has Marrow a very irrelevant character, Marvel vs Capcom 2 is a game honestly with a totally horrible look I was always surprised how people respect it so much because it has several flaws it has a large roster yes but practically many don't use them and repeat the same characters and really 2 Wolverines that was ridiculous, they reused sprites from other games that look really bad together because of the very clear difference between them It seems just an official mugen, an interesting thing the Marvel roster was what was relevant to Marvel at that time, the 90s series like X-men or Spider-man even used the voices of that series, now in Marvel the important thing It's the movies, it's true that there should have been more characters, but people criticize things that CAPCOM did before in these games.
Believe it or not, MvC3 had the same criticism when it first came out.
The idea of having Hulk and Ryu as partners who relate on the idea of controlling themselves is a good one. Like many things in Marvel Infinite, I just wish there was more.

Here's a cool fact about the Dah'ren Mohran fight in MVCI:
In MH4/4U, it's a 2-part hunt where in the first half, you would damage Dah'ren with your weapons and equipment on a "sandskiff", then in the second half, you would take it down with everything you have in the same sandskiff.
Though Dah'ren would never attack the city gates in the original game, the particular defense battle in MVCI harkens back in the old MH games against Lao Shan Lung/Shen Gaoren where you ACTUALLY defend the gates.
Scientist Ryu being friends with the Hulk is the best thing this game has ever produced. Better than the gameplay even.
This whole thing is like a puppet show on drugs. Or a manga/anime to live action adaptation _turned into_ a puppet show on drugs.
You can make a realistic character model look cool in an anime/comic book aesthetic, like Jill Valentine in Marvel vs. Capcom 2, but it *seriously* doesn't work the other way around.
The fact that Ryu can kick Hulk's ass absolutely makes him a scientist. He specializes in ASS WHOOPIN.
Ryu must have gotten his credentials from the same place Bardock did.
