I might be a weirdo but MK9 Scorpion is my favorite skin. Was a fan when they brought it back in MK11. Looks great. Also Injustice Scorpion was pretty cool.

Considering they brought it back in both X and 11, I don't think its weird to like it. If anything I think its the opposite. Imo, its still the best Scorpion.

I think Injustice Scorpion works well because it's totally its own thing. Most of Scorpion's costumes in the main series are iterations of his classic look, whereas Injustice fully commits to being new and different.
That's kinda what I was thinking. the Injustice costume just isn't really Scorpion. But it's very much an Injustice universe superhero take on Scorpion and the design language is consistent and unified and it isn't kitchy. That's the problem with some of the "bug inspired" ideas is that it feels kitchy and costumy in a bad way.
Iterations are a good thing right
NRS did say that the whole reason that the MK characters look the way they do in Injustice is to make them look as if they fit the universe. In other words; they made them look more "Super Hero-y."

It's a shame that Scorpion's alternate costumes for MK11 weren't discussed, since I would've liked to see your takes on his Grandmaster Hasashi and Past Scorpion looks from the story mode.
That game had so many incredible costumes for the characters. And I know this would take an insane amount of time, but looking at some of the different gear and skin combos is absolutely gorgeous.

For sure. Mk9 Scorpion's design in MK11 is top tier. I was interested to hear what MAX thought of it in MK11 since he gave it a 6 in mk9 and then a 7 in MKX.

I got chills about the emotion on Scorpion's face when Hanzo died...
"The Fire Gardens... They have been restored?" Genuine wonder on his face. And then actual sadness when Hanzo dies.
Scorpion, the spectre who wants nothing but revenge... Was probably the most human characters in MK11. But I don't want to see D'Vorah ever again, I'm serious. She's a plot device, not a character.
I'm not a huge fan of the injustice costume, but I do love some of the ideas and themes. The reserved attachment to the physical representation of the Scorpion idea checks out. Fits in more with the superhero aesthetic. AND also makes me really want a game where scorpion uses a kusarigama. It makes so much sense.

The Injustice design is my favorite look for both him and Sub-Zero. I think Jim Lee did a fantastic job translating them into the Injustice universe. I cannot say the same for Raiden though

Yous simply have an unpopular opinion. The injustice design is definitely one of the best if not his best design ever.

The one thing that I really like about MK1's design philosophy is that the characters look very "real" to me in a way that MK11's didnt. Don't get me wrong, MK11 looks amazing, but MK1 characters look a lot more natural and I kind of enjoy that not every fighter is jacked or shredded. Li Mei straight up looks like a yoga instructor or runner from her body type, but then she's doing crazy scissor kicks in mid air and launching you into the air with a purple Chinese energy lion. It's almost a surprise that she's so badass based on her physical characteristics and I kind of love that. They made the characters look super appealing and realistic and let their move sets and abilities express why they're so powerful.
MK11's Scorpion somehow conveyed sadness, rage, and wonder. *Scorpion,* not Hanzo. (Hanzo looks just as good imo, but I'm stressing the spectre)
An undead spectre felt like the most human character in the game. "The Fire Gardens, they have been restored?" His eyes are still dead, but the voice and expression are very much alive.
I feel that she's like that because they have only one female body mesh, so all of them have to be REALLY skinny and not look like fighters. Im kinda sad by it (though not surprised since this is the MK philosophy for a while now, of having 1 bodymesh for females, 1 for males and 1 for big body males) cause the varying body types really give variety to the cast - like some of them being better kickers, other more agile, others more bulky...
With the female characters all looking like that, it gets repetitive and loses its shine. After all, you can only repeat the same trope so much before it gets stale
@@felipecouto1102 I feel like mk is leaning more towards realism with realistic body types for how the character moves, all the woman in game seem very agile so it makes sense for them to all be skinnier
Smokes Outfit in 1 does a lot for me especially the gas mask

Love MK11 Scorpion. Adding red was a stroke of genius. I also like that the cloth portions of it look like clothes, and not a weird MCU costume
MK9 is peak scorpion for me. A resurrected ninja from hell should have a costume that fits his personality of pure vengeance.

I agree I luv the mk1 design for scorpion hate they got rid of hanzo and replaced him with kuai Liang
even tho Kuai Liang will be Scorpion this time, i still think Hanzo will play some role one way or another at some point, whether it is in this game or a later one...He's just too iconic and important to the lore.
I would assume Hanzo's family is resurrected and is living a normal life. The man needs peace just this once. He's been through enough suffering.

Deception was my overall favorite Scorpion Design since 1 grew up with it and 2 It looks amazing alongside with Shredder-Zero

Scorpion is my favorite MK kharacter ever,when i played MK4 in 2001(my first MK game)i instantly loved his moveset and visuals and the "Get Over Here" line is too iconic.

One thing, UMK3 wasn’t a reactive move to 3’s reception, they had always intended to release it later as a cabinet update, with even the promo video to arcade owners being told as such.
Max just casually skipped over the DA alt costume.. easily my favorite design of his with the fire skull. 10/10 costume

Aw yeah, I was waiting for it...! Shame it was omitted just like the crazy nazgulish design from Snowblind or his representation in Legacy / Rebirth.

I’ve always like Scorpions designs throughout the years of MK. My personal favorite design from Scorpion is MK Deception’s 1st costume. It has a lot going on and I do love the mask, the body outfit did it for me with the samurai-like outfit; the spike on his wrist personifies scorpions identity. I would give it a 8/10
MK11 scorpion design is without a doubt a 10/10🔥(Definitely looking forward to the next visual history)

Jim Lee is one of my first inspirations as an artist and i love his Scorpion design, no reason to feel weird about that at all. in fact i’d argue Injustice has some of the better character designs for the super heroes themselves as well. some feel a bit over armored if you translate them to 2d but in 3d they really work for me.

MK3 is actually one of my favorites in the franchise. That apocalyptic aesthetic, our realm being corrupted by outworld, the setting & soundtrack are great

Max needs to check the comics too. Because in the comics there some variation in the costumes.

About the Armageddon Scorpion. I think what threw me off about it at the time was not only was it less busy, but the outfit just seemed too smooth and had different lighting or saturation, not sure how to properly describe it. Compared to the rest of the kombat kast with their detailed outfits, it was out of place with its simplicity.
As an aside, I loved his alt in Deadly Alliance.
I really love Scorpion and Sub-Zero’s MK1 costumes. I feel like they’ve been pretty under appreciated to this point though.
I'm glad to see this continuing. There's definitely been some odd moments, but Scorpion has generally always been sick.

I just want to say, thank you for making your intro 10 seconds. A while back I was dealing with a LOOOOT of mental health issues (most of which made me EXTREMELY irritable no matter how much I tried to just cope and deal with things). I had an episode at some point and complained that the intro was 15 seconds rather than 10 (which is the increment that RUclips allows you to skip forward on mobile) and I don’t know if you changed it because of the increment of RUclips time skips and/or people with irritability or not… but I definitely appreciate it.
I’m doing much better now a days (was like 4 years ago when I was doing that bad). Dealt with a lot of things that stress me out and blah blah blah…. But I’m definitely appreciative of the intro being shortened

Looking at your videos, I'm in a mindset at the moment where I come to appreciate what a lot of what you do. So many videos make me feel icky nowadays for various reasons, to the point where I don't want to watch anything. It's hard to explain and complex, but I came to realise I never have this with your videos. It's always in such good faith, with interesting insight and just SO reasonable in SUCH a seemless way. You simply keep a separation between the drama and factuality and good conduct while being fun as well. You vehicule this feeling and spread it. I really appreciate what you do and I am so glad you get such recognition for it. ❤

Tbh I prefer MK11's "O.G. Ninja" skin way more than the default MK11 design. That combined with the Tachijutsu Master mask and Wani's Tail spear are just 11/10.
I just adore Scorpion's designs in MK11, it's the main costume that looks the best... but you don't see it often if you play the story or customize him often. It's pretty rare to have him look awful... That's usually meant for live action takes at most, and Injustice's, which I like elements, but like most of Injustice, is busy city.

So far mk 1 is actually my favorite design for scorpion and sub zero because I love the cut, slick look. The more simple design look awesome.

I do like his design in mk1 but like... it's Kuai Liang and not Hanzo Hasashi. That still bothers me a little bit that it's not Hanzo.
I've heard a bunch of different rumors about what could be going on with Hanzo in this timeline and i dislike most of them. I've heard that he might just be chilling with his family and he's finally found that peaceful life he's been after for so long. I like that idea. I can get behind that.
But then I've also heard that he might be the grandmaster of the lin kuei and the father of Bi Han and Kuai Liang. And I absolutely HATE that idea.
If that is what they did with Hanzo in this timeline, not only do I personally think it's a stupid idea but it might also be a little culturally insensitive. I mean think about it, Bi Han and Kuai Liang are both Chinese names. Lin kuei is literally Chinese for "forests demons". So to make Hanzo Hasashi (a very Japanese name) the grandmaster of this ancient Chinese ninja clan and the father of these 2 Chinese men, that's kinda like saying: "eh Chinese Japanese same shit!"
The only way I reconcile the "Hanzo is their father" thing would be that they aren't related by blood. When you are Lin Kuei, you are family, thus the Grandmaster is your father regardless of blood. I wouldn't LIKE it, but that's what my mind jumps to.
Apparently the first season of invasions game revolves around Hanso, he's been travelling through different time periods to find his family. When he arrives at the current timeliness he realises his wife is alive but she's married to kuai Liang
In all fairness, Chinese Ninja's as a concept kinda fall into the idea of "Chinese Japaenese same shit!"
I like that in the new timeline they're hard committing to things being different. If you're gonna change it up, then REALLY change it up IMO.
My favourite theory so far is that Takeda is an alias and Hanzo IS Takeda in this universe, since Ed's been pretty adamant about none of the kombat kids being born. We'll see.
@@mattj1829 Yeah, I saw that. But that's the Hanzo Hasashi from the previous timeline. That's the mk9, mkx, and mk11 Hanzo Hasashi. We don't know what's going on with the Hanzo Hasashi from this new timeline.

The 95’ movie Scorpion was so creepy. Those dead, soulless eyes. That mask design is my favourite.
MK felt like a horror movie to my younger self, despite it being a movie based on the game. Scorpion was scary as hell!

The reason why he has so much armor in deception is because it was gifted to him by the elder gods after he was thrown into the soulnado from deadly alliance. He was gifted the armor and sent out to do the gods bidding

Honestly my favorite design was 11's. It’s something about the red highlights, hood, and katana blades that I really like. I’m also a huge fan of the simple but effective look that Scorpion, Sub Zero, and Smoke have with their Lin Kuei uniforms in the new Mortal Kombat 1.

MK4 Scorpion probably suffered a lot from the quality of 3d models at the time, maybe if it was made into a real costume like mk 1 to umk3 were it'd look better.
I think the red parts on Scorpion might be a reference to the Error Macro glitch, because that specific glitch made his yellow suit red
One cool thing to point out about MK1 Scorpion is the level of detail and the quality of fabric he's wearing compared to his brother, the Grandmaster Sub Zero, who has more metallic adornments and higher quality fabric. Great visual language to tell you the status of both characters despite being part of the same clan.
Haven’t watched it yet, but to me, Scorp is the one ninja who’s pretty much the same over all the years. Even Sub had his weird Shredder phase and also that weird one where he was bald

Mk deception scorpion design is super underrated to me. I really dig that design. His mk 9 and mk 11 are also top tier
the best designs in any of these games are is if they are FUNCTIONAL to their character and style. i remember a story from the development of dmc devil may cry is that a lot of the monster designs did not use their tools as actual weapons and had to be fixed by the og series designer
MK11's probably one of my favorite Scorpions too. MKA and MKD aren't too bad either. The added red in MK11 and added White to MK11 Sub-Zero that make them look slick without loosing what they are meant to be.
Scorpion is one of the best Looking Characters in the Franchise, especially MK, MK2, UMK3, MK vs. DC, MK9, MKX, MK11, and MK1 with the Vibrant Yellow and Gold Masks, Sub-Zero would be a Longer List.

MK 11's design with the red added is my favorite as well. IT JUST WORKS for me!
Surprised no one mentioned his MK4 skin where he wore gray and his skull was exposed.

Scorpion for sure design-wise has it consistently the best of all the male ninjas, with arguably Rain following close behind.
Sub-Zero has his bad unmasked designs pre-MKX revenant, Reptile has more bad than good, Ermac has MK1, Noob Saibot being a black silhouette initially, and Smoke has his nanobot suit.
Deception Scorpion is sooooo clean
My first MK was UMK3 on SNES where it cut many things including "Get over here" line and leaving only "Come here" one. I was so confused when people talking about his iconic line because I only remember the lesser known "Come here"
Max didn't verbally said it, but i guess that what makes Injustice Scorp work is the hood and the mask.
And it shows that it works bc since then, he always has the hood design

There's a reason for the more golden colored and armored Scorpion around the time of Deception in the game's lore, it's not just them choosing to make him look more that way. He became the chosen warrior and Champion of the Elder God's, and was given a powerup and upgrade to his abilities, gear, etc... This explains the transition.
I'd say my top 5 favorite Scorpion designs are, his alternate in Deception/MK4 cuz they're practically the same. MK2, Deadly Alliance, the 1995 movie, and the opening cutscene in Shaolin Monks. Really love his alternate in MK9 as well. Sure it's a bit much, but I love it so much.
MK9 Scorpion is 10/10 MK11 Scorpion is like a 6 his MKX outfit gets a 3.

The MK2 costume is by far my absolute favorite look for him. The evolution of Scorpion has been so fun to grow up with. My absolute favorite character of any game. I remember the very first time I threw a spear with him and hear I am 31 years later just as excited to do it again in MK1. The Injustice Scorpion is the only one I only don't like at all. I know many people do and I love that but it just looks so wildly goofy to me haha. MK11 really did do such a fantastic job with his design too! His intros are insanely badass!
