The bridezilla is from Durban, South Africa. Just so you know, she did take the "issue" to her lawyers and the lawyers called Romeo to let him know he has nothing to worry about. My wife and I spent just a hair over $1000 on our wedding. Out of our own pockets. We got chicken from KFC and Pizza from a local place, and ice cream cakes from Dairy Queen. The wedding was super cheap and a lot of fun. It even inspired my cousin for her wedding and made it super cheap and really simple a couple years later. It was great going into our marriage without thousands of dollars in debt to add unnecessary stress going forward.

The big party with the froofy dress, loads of gifts, everyone-focused-on-the-bride seems to be the goal of those poor, pitiful cases of arrested Barbie development. My goal was to find a lover, friend, and companion with whom I could live forever. Took me until I was 38 to find him, but wow -- I tell ya, waiting was the smartest thing I ever did in my life. We've been together danged near 29 years now. Have there been bumps? Heck, yeah. I knew there would be. They're inevitable. But I knew he was a guy I'd enjoy being with, and I was right.

One of my missions in life now is to provide young women with an alternative story. It ain't the Disney Princess story, unless the princess in question has graying hair, but it's a sweet, funny story of how a widower and an always-single, nearly middle-aged woman discovered romance, complete with meet-cute scene and truly... unusual first date. Yep people spend more time planning for the wedding than they do the marriage. They know every detail about anything wedding but get married and find out their husband doesn’t want kids for a few years or killed a man in Texas. Then the stress of the wedding causes marital problems you go in to it already stressed. Spend money that could
Be used on something that lasts longer than a few hours and you barely remember after you have kids or even just in a few years. My job had a booth at a wedding convention and the speaker said that the average wedding is 150k. I live in Los Angeles and even here that would be a good down on a condo atleast. Or to pay off college loans or cars or just a saving for the “what ifs”

The wedding dress story really made me cry. My sister asked me if she could use my wedding dress for her wedding. I didn’t understand why her fiancé could not afford one , he was a dentist ( a really lazy one). First I said no, she insisted. I told her that our bodies were very different and she would need to altered it and I did not want that. She told me that they have figured out what to do so that she could wear it without doing any alterations. I told her not to marry that guy (even the day of the wedding). He had the money but didn’t want to spend it on her dress. My husband was a poor graduate student when we got married but he put money together to buy me my dress. After a lot back and forth I said yes. And yes she altered my wedding dress and I never saw my wedding dress after the wedding, nobody knows what happened to it. Story time:
I used to bartend at a “popular” chain restaurant and when I bartender I also manned the phones. My favorite customer complaint came from a woman calling in and asking for a manager. The manager was busy so I told her I was the manager, since I was a backup manager when we had call outs, I was not ready for this woman’s complaint and was so naive to think I could handle it professionally. So she starts off by saying she needs me to refund her entire order and pay for her car to be detailed. I asked her what happened and here’s her story. She and her family were there less than an hour ago and had dinner with us, they finished their meal and decided to get dessert, she ordered a chocolate cake covered in hot fudge and icecream. They paid and left and while on the way home this woman got an upset stomach and lost control of her bowels all over her car 🙃 . I apologized that it happened but still didn’t understand what she wanted me to do. She said that we were negligent in giving her that chocolate cake with icecream because she’s lactose intolerant and we needed to fix this. I lost my composure and began cackling into the phone and looking around trying to figure out who was pranking me, nope she was serious and angry I had the audacity to laugh. She hung up on me after saying she was calling corporate. I went back and told my manager through laughter and tears, he texted his DM to give him a warning. This woman did contact corporate and they sent her a 100 dollar gift card as an “apology”. I still chuckle about that shituation and it’s been 10 years.

I managed to find matching lace and fabric at a sewing and craft store so I could make it long sleeved, since I was having a winter wedding. It was gorgeous! Ironically, the extra lace and fabric cost more than the dress, about $100. But hey, $120 for a wedding dress is a steal!
And I didn't have to buy anything else for my outfit! I just reused the shoes from my senior prom, and wore some nice pearl jewelry that my mom had given me for my birthday the year before.

Who benefits from that? Not the designer but the store who yes have overheads and wages etc but what price are these smaller designers paying? They don’t get any of that extra money? The designer has a sale direct to customer and the customer was and is happy. I would encourage people to look online and find a dress they like and make contact with the designer and bypass the stores altogether. In my experience the gowns I looked at in one particular store were absolutely filthy and I didn’t put them on, the gowns are not clean in lots of cases have only sample sizes which are usually too small for the average bride and trying on a gown that’s too small doesn’t give you any idea of how it’s going to look on your day. So the pressure for young women would be to get married young so they can be on that path and also because a lot of women still want to be married before having children (if they want them) and women do generally have a biological clock/timeline we need to follow in terms of fertility so that can feel stressful as well 🤷🏻‍♀️ Just some possible reasons

I may have told this story before and if so, apologies. I went no contact with my sister-in-law after the final straw of her berating me for being a "bad daughter" because I didn't include a special sister-in-law only flower laying ceremony at my mother's funeral. But well before that special little incident she asked to wear my mother's wedding dress. My mom's wedding dress was originally hand sewn and worn by my mom's grandmother and has been worn by every female descendent since except me because I'm too small for it. (It's Edwardian in design but my both my grandmother and great-grandmother were over six feet tall and my mom was 5'11".) It's an heirloom, it's delicate and while my sister-in-law is taller than me she's not that tall and there were other sizing issues. She and I had already gotten into it for things like me not paying rent to her when I was living in my mother's house and not rehoming my cats because she doesn't like cats and my brother at this point wasn't talking to me but also had expressed to my mom that he didn't want to marry her and was doing so only out of a sense of duty. So she asked my mother if she could wear the dress since - according to her - I would never get married or have kids. My mom was TOO nice so said she would ask me if it was okay. I of course said no and my mother seemed relieved. But of course because of that the sister-in-law threw a massive fit and she and my brother waited until my mom was out of town and eloped. My mom wasn't happy about them getting married but wanted to be supportive and let my brother make his own decisions so she was pretty heartbroken over it. When mom was diagnosed and given six weeks to live, I tried to move my own wedding up with my fiance at the time so my mom would be able to attend at least one of her children's weddings, but unfortunately she went too quickly for that. After my mother passed I had to get a lawyer to get that dress back and the sister-in-law tried to stake claim to a number of sentimental little bits and bobs JUST to hurt me.
tl;dr it's not about how much the dress costs, it's about insinuating a relationship that doesn't exist. My sister-in-law was trying to get me out of the picture and be my mom's new and only daughter. The woman in this story is less evil and it's a bit about money, but she's also trying to fabricate a relationship between her and the sister that she couldn't be bothered to put in the effort for.

In addition to the little sentimental things she tried to get my mom's house free and clear of me as well at which point I got myself a lawyer. Part of the settlement was me getting the dress. (Apparently the judge scolded the opposing lawyer because there were some shenanigans involved on her side.)
I think at this point I am going to have a conservator look at it and I might consider allowing an appropriate museum to acquisition it. I'm not fully ready to part ways with it just yet, but if I do it will be to a museum that can take care of it and display it from time to time.

That first person is EXACTLY the type of Karen to go to a restaurant, order and eat an ENTIRE meal and dessert and only THEN complain it was offal and demand she gets it free. Speaking from experience, this has happened multiple times at my job.

ugh, my co-worker does a version of this. She orders things to 'taste them' complains there is something wrong with it and then orders something else. Food and drinks. EVERY TIME. I refuse to join work dinners now because of her. She runs servers ragged and then barely tips them.

I had something like that happen years ago when I was working at McDonald’s. A family group comes in around 930 am and are upset to see they cannot order lunch yet (this was like 20 years ago) so they order breakfast and sat for at least an hour eating. After a while they come up with their receipt and say they didn’t like the food so they wanted their money back. I go and grab my manager and he comes to deal with the customer. Manager asks where is the food you didn’t like. Guy says well we ate most of it. Manager says I can’t give you a refund for food you already ate. They were so mad. I was hiding in the back of the restaurant because I couldn’t stop laughing. My manager had reached an I don’t give a fuck about this job anymore point and he was not having it with this guy. And we were one of the smaller restaurants inside of a Walmart that’s why I could run and hide in the back. They finally left all while shouting nasty things.

My cousin got married in our Nana's wedding dress, which fit her perfectly, and she looked beautiful. I got married, barefoot, in a white cotton sundress in our backyard. We had all the people we loved there to celebrate with us. That's all we needed. This idea you have to have a fancy wedding is just wrong. It's the people that makes the day, not the venue, not the food, not the dress. Gather the people who love you, that's what you'll remember in 30 years.

Yes, that makes me old. So that's my advice for young people. It's the people you celebrate with that matters. That means you shouldn't waste your time and money inviting people out of obligation. Just gather the people you love, those that love and support you and have a party. No need to break the bank or stun your guests. They came to celebrate, not to judge.

I was lucky enough to find a super nice, A-Line dress on sale for $70 when I got married back in 78. The thing is, I looked for bargains in everything as we didn't have a lot of money. All told, I think we spent less than $300, but our wedding was really tiny and intimate; just our immediate families. Starting our lives together without all that debt always seemed smart to me.

My Mum looked gorgeous married in a fuschia above-the-knee crepe shift which was about $30 in 1983, & a white pillbox hat w. attached birdcage veil, about $15.
Didn't smile any less wide in the photos than I did w. my custom designed velvet + silk taffeta 17th-Century-gone-punk gown & $500 Hysteria Machine foot-tall metal halo crown & $2,600 R&R Eden shoes (which, in fairness, were my wedding-morning gift from my husband bc I was obsessed with them, but I would _never_ have knowingly let him buy them [but I def cried, lol]) in 2017.
I've never seen a single bride who was any less happy or beautiful than another. But brides who make everyone _else_ miserable bc they can't accept what their practical capabilities are sure don't tend to get their weddings still fondly reminisced about by their friends + husband years later, in my personal experience.

An intimate wedding is my dreamed wedding. No drama, no stress. :) Sure mom won't agree because she wants for me a fairy wedding, but no.
Just have to find a groom who wants an intimate wedding too, ahah.

I found my dress from a business that does cosplay/fantasy outfits. We were doing a subtle LOTR theme and I found a simple one that was 100 plus shipping and it worked perfectly! My older sister had our granmother make her one for about 50

5:21 my brother is a professional photographer and not only would he have this in his contract, but he also has a behavioral clause in his contract. if he is doing a photo shoot, and the people at the photo shoot are misbehaving and causing him to not feel comfortable being there. He is legally allowed to walk and they will be on their own to find a photographer. This clause came in handy when he was working a wedding, and the sister of the bride got a little bit drunk and started to get very flirtatious with him and keep in mind. My brother is married and is not the type the fact, he was really not interested so he went up to the bride and had to remind her and the groom about the behavior clause in his contract to which they both told him they would deal with it and got a hold of the drunken sister. It was a much more affordable option to get the sister contained versus in the middle of a wedding having to come up with a photographer because the one they had was forced to leave for his own safety

It’s so weird how people expect us as photographers to provide feelings instead of a service. The feelings are an added bonus. Me taking a photo of you with someone isn’t a blood contract of love forever.

Growing up most of the weddings I attended, were well planned small Intimate weddings. A couple were even potlucked, by the immediately family. They just wanted to be married, they did what they could afford. There is no shame in that. I was a ring bear for one of them, and the bride split cost of my dress with my mom and trailered my dress herself. I think I even wore it’s a costume one year. 😂
