1:25 - The first demo shows how performers can vary their harmony parts by creating Steps within a preset and stepping through them at appropriate times in the song. Tom starts with a simple harmony below the lead then moves on to multiple harmonies and ends with a fiddle solo over looped harmony vocals.
11:34 - Demo #2 shows how multiple instruments connected to VoiceLive 3 can work together to make a huge one-person sound. MIDI clock syncs VoiceLive 3's kick drum metronome and the keyboard's arpeggiator to make a cool loop. Also shown are VoiceLive 3's smokin' guitar sounds, vocal doubling and Notes mode (keyboard performed) harmonies.
23:32 - The final demo is just for fun as Tom plugs his fiddle into the guitar input and uses the Octaver effect to simulate an unusual string quartet including a pretty convincing Double Bass, 2 cellos and a violin.

Thanks for sharing this video and many of the options available through the Extreme. I am getting my unit today (5/20/21) and plan on spending a lot of time practicing with it for my gig (7/16/21). I'm hoping the process is fairly intuitive to build music and harmonies for a bridge in the song I want to perform. Should be interesting adding bass line and then backing harmonies leading up to my lead line. Guessing I will have to use step mode since the acoustic will come in later.

Can you explain why the mic gain keeps going back down when you sing ??? I use a Shure SM58 Soon as I start singing on the headphones and I can’t even hear myself and it’s very annoying I have to keep turning it back up and soon as I sing it drops again !!!!!!!

The only weakness of Voice Live 3 is that you cannot MAP the Chain of effects in the order that you want... like a Line 6 Helix.
But, it sounds so good for the voice effects and the guitar effects.

Yea you can, I’ve had this pedal for nearly 2 years now, and I can confirm you can choose to loop either guitar, vocal, aux, or any combination of the three
This unit is setting the bar on what can be done live!
The possibilities are endless it seems,...mastering it as one may assume will be a challenge that I look forward to!👌🏾

Hi Nouamane, our harmony needs chords or at least root and 3rd to guide it. If the Oud is melodic and cannot play chords it may not work. You could switch to setting a fixed Key and Scale to derive harmony from

Hi Tom. TC Helicon *really* needs to deal with the elephant in the room and that of course is the 'Blue/White screens of death' caused by (as far as I can determine) the SD card shifting in the SD card holder. The fix to this is rather simple yer, people seem to be left in the dark regarding this very real issue. Why no acknowledgment of this issue?

@@cyliss69 Sure. I opened my VL3X and then placed tape BEHIND the micro SD card slot (so when the SD card holder 'door' opens it does not contact the board directly). Then I removed the SD card, cleaned the card contacts and reseated the card back into the holder and closed the door. I then placed a small piece of good quality electrical tape ON the SD card and holder to prevent the SD card from easily shifting in the card holder. Test the unit before closing it up completely and then finally, closed up the case. This fix cures most white/blue screen issues with the VL3X in my experience
Yeah, totally agree, I was about to purchase this amazing looper just recently for all the great features, but the fact that for such long time there was no acknowledgment by TC to this problem (heck...It seems Microsoft (!?) is dealing with fixing bugs quicker then that....) made me reluctant to buy it. Hope someone at TC will somehow get thing moving. In any event, I love Tom's presentations, music, singing, it's beautiful!!! All is left is for the tech guys at TC to restore some consumer confidence in the reliability of this pedal.
So I am thinking about getting a vocal/guitar vocal fx station and from what I can see there is not a lot between VL3(X) and Boss' VE-8 (where VL3 is clearly more advanced and versatile but VE-8 would work for me as well, as I am only planning on using it on acoustic gigs). Question is: VL3(X) is pretty old in terms of electronic's development circles. So are there plans to release a VL4 soon-ish or will VL3 be around for a while?

I have a question: I have a voicelive 3 extreme that I use with an MP 75. When I change the preset, it very often happens that the volume of the microphone (micro input) drops considerably (from 35 to 22 for example ). It is a real problem for me that I cannot solve. Do you have a solution for this? Thank you so much!!!

Ich habe diese Gerät am 15.11.2017 gekauft und von Beginn an nur Probleme. Es läuft eine zeitlang und dann kommt wieder mal: "The following Subsystem(s) failed: AVR Touch, Error Code 2008000" Das läßt sich dann auch meist nicht mehr quittieren, sondern man muß den Strom ausstecken und ewig versuchen neu zu starten. Habe es dann auf Garantie eingeschickt und mit einer "Product Checklist" wieder zurückbekommen wo alles ok sein sollte. Beim zweiten Auftritt vorgestern gings dann wieder nicht. Werde es nun nochmal einzuschicken, aber für die Bühne werde ich mir wohl etwas in Reserve kaufen müssen, da es so unzuverlässig ist.

a) How big of an MicroSD will it read?
b) Can I copy the one that's in it as a backup?

You mention it can do non-parallel harmonies by playing the harmony notes on a MIDI keyboard. Is it possible to program these non-parallel harmonies so they can join in with the lead vocalist without having to play them on a keyboard?

Is it possible to have the backing voice prefer thirds (or fourths if it's a sus 4 chord) and sixths, and avoid singing fifths? IMO, fifths are ugly, unless it's at least a three-part harmony.
When you set a harmony voice to an interval such as say High, it will only ever sing 3 to 4 semitones away from your lead. The Higher and Low voicings do focus on 5ths so you can choose not to use them. In addition, you could set up a scale harmony and have the voices go to different intervals.
Does the "scale harmony" feature adapt to chord changes? Like if it's doing harmonies in natural A minor and there's a B7 - E7 - Am chord progression, then during the B7 chord it should temporarily switch to something like E harmonic minor scale, and during the E7 to something like A harmonic minor.
Scale doesn't listen to chord changes. To do what you'd want you could input a chordal instrument like a guitar or MIDI keyboard, or program preset steps to make a chain of scale substitutions.
Cant get any audio out of the outputs on my vl3x. Its brand new and just cant get it to put any audio out . Any suggestions?
good to see what the vl3E does that the GR55 synth does not. Allot of overlap in sounds you can create but VL3 seems to have more foot controls thru each sound-steps etc. The actual midi instruments may not be there but; a marriage of the two would be awesome ! I see the GR does not even work well with extra effects boxes going thru it to get your full sound; so then using the GR with the Vlx3 in series; might be uncontrollable !
with the looper can you build different parts of a song and then switch between them? For example can you build the intro, then verse, then prechorus, chorus, bridge, etc....and then perform the whole song from the looper, being able to switch to any section of your loops that you created on the fly? All looping videos only show basically one loop and then they overdub on top of the same loop. Can this make all sections of a song too?
Tom, I recently bought the VL3 Extreme and among other things, am having trouble setting the KEY for any songs. My understanding is go to VOCAL//HARDTUNE//Scroll to Manual Key and set it. However it says and stays LOCKED. Any(ones) help is appreciated.
Nice songwriting Tom. You seemed to be versed in the electronics side and music. What background do you have? I have some guitar pieces under thejmillsband and would love to go or even play at the NAMM show. I have the voiceworks ra kmount along with other TC Helicon products which produce great harmonies, as well as the voicelive 3 extreme which should be delivered tomorrow Dec 03, 2020 from Sweetwater as it sounds much better. I don't consider myself much of a singer and more of a guitarist, but if there is any way I could attend or play at the NAMM show (hopefully in Anaheim) please let me know. I have several friends that have gone and told me after the fact and most aren't even musicians.I first learned Chet Atkins then progressed as through some of my guitar videos. I'm 65 and retired now.Thank You

Display is absolutely not readable when you're standing. TC, I'm kindly asking to consider expanding the screen to 10" at least and make it touch sensitive as well, please:-)

I have been going through tutorials of this unit but have not been able to find if when using backing tracks, does the backing track have volume control within the unit or would the volume have to be controlled by the mixing desk if played through a PA?
There is a mixer built into the VL3X that controls the output volumes.

Hi! Can you use guitar effect on the vocal? Just curious, I wanna get voicelive soon but not sure what kinda and how many effects I can use on vocals, do you use condenser microphone?
If you want to apply guitar fx to your vocal you could rig up an XLR A/B switch so your vocal bounces between the voice and guitar inputs. Be really careful turning on the amps as they'll feedback like crazy! I don't use a condenser mic - they are way too sensitive to monitor sounds and cause the pitch based effects (harmony, doubling) to wander. The brightness and clarity on my voice in the video comes from our adaptive Tone feature.
( hey tom, on the first song with the acoustic guitar, you unplugged the plug from the guitar and then put it on the violin. i noticed that there was no 'noise' when you did those. unplugging or plugging from/to sound sources would usually make the speaker/output produce a crackling noise. so how did you do the noise-less? )
2 possible ways you can do this, 1 is the VL3X has a quick mute option by simultaneously holding down the top and bottom scroll buttons on the left side of the VL3X 2nd would be a specific instrument cable you can buy that is designed to not pop when entering or exiting an instrument.
I have just bought the voicelive3 extreme. I currently have v2.0.00 build and I would like to update firmware to v2.0.01 so that I can import loops made using my ipad. Where can I download v2.0.01? I don't think it's on the TCHelicon site I've looked. Any help would be much appreciated, the user manual says nothing about it.

Is it possible to use VL3X once you've recorded the backing track to have it "listen" to a live performance of the same song as the one previously recorded in backing tracks and let it adjust to the real live performance in order to step in with the verse or chorus arrangements made in the backing track version???Hopefully, this question was understood.
I think I get what you're asking, to do this you'd need some pretty heavy artificial intelligence! Great thinking though...

I'm STILL wondering how to NOT have the VL3X force effects on my keyboard, which is MY accompanying instrument. My Korg Kronos doesn't need any help - it's just in the chain so the VL3X knows what key I'm in for the Vocal harmonies to conform. I finally found ONE tutorial that addresses the problem, but it's in GERMAN!! LOL

Yes it does pitch correction, you will find it under the vocal effects menu and can choose different levels and styles of pitch correction 🤘

Can I play guitar into the VL3X without any amp or PA, and just hear my guitar and backing track through IEM?
If this will not damage the unit, it would be handy for practice without having to plug amp or PA. Please let me know. Dean.
Hi Dean,
The VL3x has extensive guitar amp modelling features, so you never need to plug it into an amp if you don't want to. It won't damage your unit to monitor through the headphone output, it was designed to allow you to hear all the guitar amp effects through headphones.

Hi, I have got a question about this Extreme. I am using many years tc helicon gxt voicetone, I am very satisfied by this, and dont need more, but the question is this, sound of harmonies is different on this extreme model, is more natural less robotic, becouse on highest shift it sound lil more as robot or vocoder. I want to ask u, becouse u try borh models. Let me know please, is it very important for me, seriously I dont need so much all other functiones on that new one. Thanx
I'd say if you're happy with GXT that you could stay with it. VL3 has functions where you can edit smoothing and portamento so the harmonies are more pitch corrected or more natural.

I think I've asked this before but I wanted to know if it's possible to use my VL3x to send clock tempo commands to the rest of my band for each of my songs/presets/tracks. Guitars, bass, drums, keyboards, etc.
If you use a playback or loop, does that signal (stereo out) come out the same output as the mic incl effect? That way you can't have a front house engineer adjust the playback from the vocal...?
It can if you want it to! The main output (XLR's L+R) has its own configurable mix, so you can control what's included in the main output mix. The looper, backing track, and auxiliary input can all be removed from the main mix if you so choose. In fact, if you're using a backing track and want explicit control (or to give control to your soundperson) of the track VS your vocal/guitar sound, you can remove the backing track from the main XLR outputs and use the two 1/4" guitar outputs to send the isolated backing track in stereo all on its own.

Vey nice. Mr. I have a problem with my brand new TC HELICON STUDIO LIVE VOICE 3 ESTREME. When I try to start it it does not work. The display lights but it shows light empty. Blank. I mean the software does not open , the software does not start. Still the display shows light but no painel for operations.

I have a question. I don't know if there everyone here to answer etc. I wish to level up my live vocal thing but I am not really interested on "effects". I should propably go to the TC-Helicon VoiceTone T1 pedal. And I am in the pushing that warmth button sect. But I also listened carefully the Harmony Singer 2 videos and that tone button does an amazing job but its not fair to get one only for one fuction right? The same goes with the Mic Mechanic 2 that has an Adaptive Tone one. But I am not sure if I could work with that. And that's the first question is the tone button the same on the MM2 and HS2 softwhare and hardware wise? And the second question is: does the VOICELIVE 3 EXTREME has this perfect EQ, compression, de-essing, and gating for vocals that someone could achieve before with the above pedals? Or generally with those much more offering functions we compromise them hardware and software wise? More simply by buying this great monster can someone say that has everything that those pedals offer? Or even in better quality and shape? Sorry for the huge comment but I am sure you sound geeks will get me. Thankzzsss!!
There are too many effects n functions. I’ve had this pedal since it came onto the market. As an effects pedal it’s ok. As a looper, it ain’t great. However, it does get bugs and issues. Mine is due to go back for repair for the second time. I don’t even use the thing heavily. I’d shop around first.
Question: how do you please setup the effect so that the guitar makes the nice kick sound? Actually the whole setup would be great if you shared it...
