    Outstanding video. I’ve been using my VLX3 for a couple years in both solo shows and limited use with my band. A few things I’ve noticed on my VLX3 journey. Getting started on this is easier if you have an application for it. Mine was to replace an old harmonizer and out of the box, it pretty much does that, but I’ve wanted to use more of the guitar processing available. If you wish to go any further, it’s off to the RUclips rabbit hole to try & learn from the “experts”. My biggest gripe with even the true experts from TC-Helicon is they show you “what” it can do, but they rarely show you “how” to program it to do what it can do and fill space with unnecessary commentary, inside jokes and overuse of the products vocal features with over educated song lyrics that won’t get flagged on RUclips. You explained both, and even prefaced topics in the beginning of the video by explaining what topics you were going to cover, so thank you! @TC-Helicon - Take notice. This is how it’s done. Sorry this turned into TCH bashing post, but I would have to imagine I’m not the only one who finds their “educational” material uninspiring. I do love the product, we just need more videos like this from the manufacturer to learn how to use features and not just what it can do.

      @@rickpom1 Thankyou Rick. This is the best comment on my channel so far! I appreciate your words because I do have the user in mind with all my videos. Even with the guitar tutorials I try to tell the viewer how I’m thinking as well which I think helps. Yes I went down that rabbit hole as well. There seems to be a little bit of a ego in the videos from TC helicon. More interested in trying to come across funny than giving valuable tips. You are not the first person to mention they got more out of this video than theirs. I am by no means as much of an expert as them of course so maybe it’s easier for people to understand if it’s a bit simpler and perhaps more practical. But after getting a bit of hate lately, it’s nice to know that people like you are getting something out of it. So thank you.

    Hi Todd I've stumbled onto your youtube tutorials just in time, I'm like yourself, a solo perfomer for 30 years.
    I live in a very small bush town with no other muso's to jam along and learn with so MIDI has been my choice of accompliment since 1991.
    All of my MIDI programs are XP based and now that the old computers have died and gone to heaven I can't load my XP CD's on windows 10, the running system won't acknowledge the software so I'm stuck in a hard place.
    So my new learning curve is changing to a macpro and recording all my 180 MIDI songs to mp3 (I'm using CUBASE) and it converts them to mp3 really well.
    I have the TCHelicon voice live 3 on order (out of stock in NSW Australia) due in this month May,
    I can see hours and hours of work infront of me but with the availabilty of your great youtube tutorials I will be following your advice to a TEE.
    I normally use any key on my midi keybpoard to insert a midi note when recording the song and my lyrics attach to these notes.
    Is there a tap (on the mouse pad) option with BandHelper?
    Or how do you time your lyrics, I watched and it seems you just use auto scroll? Is that correct?
    Regards Allan

    • @pro_muso
      @pro_muso  4 месяца назад

      Thanks for your message Allan. You will LOVE the unit. Yes there is a big learning curve but just learn what you need to know. You can go down rabbit holes that are a waste of time. But it's all learning.
      Yes for the lyrics you just put in the duration of the song and it knows based on your screen size where to auto scroll.
      I'm always here if you run into problems, feel free to ask. All the best Allan. Keep on keeping on. :-)

    Hi, thanks for the tutorial, that will be helpful to many I'm sure. I've had my VL3X for a few months now and have done a lot of work setting it up with all my backing tracks. I am currently in the middle of going through and adding all the automation. I have set up "Song Repertoire" on my MS Surface, with all my songs and MIDI commands. I noticed your 3 individual outputs to the mixer are configured differently to mine. It is something I am interested in learning more about from you. I have tried a bunch of different ways, from the manual, all different to that one. And settled on Vox out of one xlr out and guitar out of the other xlr out with backing track out of both the L&R guitar jacks. The main problem I encountered was getting the "performance recording" mix to sound the same as the main output. It's a real juggling act. I'd love to hear your take on setting up the mix so all matches. If you even use the "performance recording" function. The config that I am using gives me the closest mirroring of the main output to the "performance recording". According to the manual it should be exactly the same but so far that is not my experience. Interested in learning more from you. Cheers!

    • @pro_muso
      @pro_muso  Год назад

      Hey Ken. Yes I was going to mention my setup in the video but forgot to. Basically I set the mic out of the XLR and guitar out of the jack, as I assume it's supposed to be. For the headphone mix I turn everything off but the tracks. I'm going off memory now because I'm in bed sick but I think if you turn one of the 4 small dials, you'll get the output mix for headphones. I turn the first 3 all the way to the left and off, and the last one is the backing mix. Set it where you want. Try that, it may help with the performance recording but I don't use it. Let me know how you go. Any probs I'll have a closer look. Cheers.

    Holy moly. This is far too much to think about for me. When I a, playing live,mi cannot worry about being a computer programmer. I’ll stick with my digital multitrack recorder. All instruments are on its own channel. If someone doesn’t show up, I just raise the fader. They show up? I bring the fader down. Then I simply play to it as if all of the players are playing live with me. No thought process involved other than advancing to the next song.
    Your video is great for those that want to get this deep into it but for me, I would$ rather put my energy onto the performance rather than worry about the technical stuff all night. I watched the entire video and it’s full of details so, great job there. Just not for me.

    • @pro_muso
      @pro_muso  Месяц назад +2

      @@trusso11783 yes I totally understand. Everyone has their own system. I guess it’s just what you get used to. As a soloist this works great. But you obviously play with other musos and your system is perfect for that. Especially when your lineup is changing a lot. 👍 I will add though that all the programming happens at home, and at the gigs I don’t have to worry about any tap dancing on the pedal board and all my energy goes into the performance because all that thinking has been done.

    Hi Mate, Ricky from sunny Sri Lanka...
    First a I a quick question, if I send in the full band mix from the mixing board headphone out in to the unit? If so could you do a quick video on the connectivity to the VL3x? And could the unit be setup to identify the key for harmony ? Cause I for ever I have been manually change the key from song to song, when I sing with the band. And thats a heap of stress... I've got good at it but would love to enjoy the freedom 😊 I don't play an instrument. Lead vocals only. Appreciate your response 👍
    And Now, a massive THANK YOU to "YOU" for doing this walkthrough on the VL3x... Believe me, there is not a single propper guide like yours on RUclips or on the official TC Helicon site👍TC should send you a big fat cheque mate....
    I love TC Helicon product's have 2 other smaller vocal units and have had this unit from the time they released it in NAM many moons ago...However I struggled to get a clear video guide. 🤝Thanks a million mate... This is going to be a lifesaver for many musicians across the globe. Please go deeper in to the unit on both sides. Vocal and Guitar. God bless you! 🤗🤝

    • @pro_muso
      @pro_muso  11 месяцев назад

      Hey Ricky. Thankyou very much for your kind words. :-)
      Yes I can see how it would be a lot of work to set up every key and chord change if you don't play an instrument. However, if you get a feed from your rhythm player to go directly into the guitar port, you could use the guitar sense functionality to trigger the correct harmonies. Just don't output the guitar. Or keyboards, or whoever your rhythm player is. If you can't get an extra feed from them then you could set up an aux channel from the mixer with just the rhythm going to the VL3X. If you send the full band mix it will be too busy for the unit to identify a triad. Just send the rhythm.
      In the event by bandmix you mean just a backing track and no rhythm player, I'm not sure it will be accurate. The only possible solution I see is if you pan the main mix to the left for your front of house mix, and use a rhythm track panned hard right, and send that to the VL3X to trigger the harmonies.
      I hope that helps Ricky. :-)

      @@wernerweimar7649 No problem. If you have a ‘performance’ ie a backing track assigned to a preset you can go into the recording menu (long press on looper button) you will see a menu with the wave form of the track. Navigate to the hidden screen on the left. I think it’s one of the top left buttons to get there. There you will see a USB icon. You need to insert a USB drive, and you can then save the performance. This will save any recording edits you do plus the preset. That is one way to save a preset. If you just want to save the preset and you don’t have any backing tracks, you can go online to a voice live editor. It’s not a TC helicon page, but it is a working fix to save your presets from this device. I don’t know why TC Hicon doesn’t have their own one. They used to. If you can’t find it online, you can search for the Facebook group. I will find the right Name. facebook.com/groups/1286663892210529/
