Hi Again. I’m just about to buy a VL 3 Extreme. I would like to know how you route the backing track to outputs so that the audio click track from my backing track goes to monitor/headphones , and the music from the backing track goes to the mixer or FOH. Is it possible ?. It’s important especially for an intro count. All this along with separate guitar and voice outputs. Still possible ? Good wishes and many thanks for your great tutorials.
From what I can see, you can import audio and record on the pedal, and you can record when the voice or guitar effects come in so that it does it automatically, but could those adjustments be made on the fly while the accompaniment is playing? Regards, and thank you very much
Whaauw, great tutorial!... thanks for making this!... I ordered one and still am waiting for delivery. One question: how many tracks can be imported on the VL3X ?... and do the wav files not take relatively a lot of memory?....
Thanks a lot for these helpful tutorials! Earned a sub buddy! I predict about 20 more tutorials about the VL3X until we know almost everything about it. :D Keep 'em coming :D

Terrific videos. Interestingly, I use the record and overdub of effects on to the backing tracks function the most. When I play live everything is automated. I control start and stop etc with the Switch 6.

Thanks so much for an easily understandable video! I am wanting to try the VLX3 for live gigs as I use my own tracks to play along with- I play all the parts and can only do vocals/guitar onstage. What is your opinion of the BT playback? I have BTs already in the format needed. My laptop/audio interface/ FX pedals work well but are a pain to set up/break down time-wise, so to have everything in one would be fantastic..ONLY if it is the same audio quality. Hoping for help.....
Hi Bishop. Thanks for the tutorials. Do you have any video to show how to delete backing tracks that I am not using any more and get rid of it from VL3 to make room for more tracks to load ??? I do not see any option to do this once you load BT
Thank you for these videos, they are brilliant. Sorry if you have already answered this - but do you (or any other viewers) know if you can use loops (or backing tracks, for that matter), as "one-shot" sample players? (If I want to hit the button and have it play a whole stab or chord, but not loop??) I can't find an answer for this anywhere - Thanks in advance!
Hey mate great video, question..How do you configure the backing track to only come out of the guitar out rather than the main L/R out so that it can be mixed separately?
can you please tell me how can we delete the imported backing track from the device..? but thanks for your effort to spend time for the video creation...
Thank you. Very helpful. What firmware version were you using on these vids. I downloaded the build 366 firmware and it doesn't show the backing track tabs. Maybe that has changed. I don't see any vids about how to use BT on this version. Any ideas? Thx AC
I believe the first firmware that supported backing track was 2.1.01 Build 355. Make suer you have the Extreme or backing tracks will not be an available option. If you have the voicelive extreme please share a screen shot (missing backing track tab and firmware version)of your screen and I'll be happy to help.
Addt info...I emailed support and they said that the tabs we are talking about are not in build 366 (or 355) . I know this because I've loaded the different firmware versions and found that 350 has the tabs but 355 and 366 don't. That's fine but I haven't found a video to explain (the way you did) how to do the various import/export/backing tracks etc with the 366 FW. Thats why I was asking which one you had in the vid. You must have 350 or else there is something wrong with my unit. ???? Thx AC
Thx. Just to clarify....the firmware on the vids was a different version than your current version right? Because I also have the 2.2.00 versionbut no import track / performance tabs. Thx AC
Great work! I've had one of these for a few years and you showed me a few good tricks. Also, some good refresher stuff on the things I don't use often, but plan to start now. Hope to see some more.
Hi Bishop, Any thoughts on getting a click track synced with a backing track? Could you record the track in your DAW with the click track panned to one side say to the right and then put the VL3X in stereo mode and isolate that for the drummer?
Hi, thank you for your good tuto. I have a question for you. I would like to know how erasing a backing track update in the machine. What is the capacity of the inside memory ? Actually, I can't erase any tracks imported inside the voicelive EXTREME. Thanks you Mr Bishop
Great video! I wanted to ask how i remove a backing track from a preset so that i can go back to using the looping functionality with the specific preset? Can't seem to figure this out
I assume you figured it out by now, but under "Looper", just go back to "None" under the Backing Track tab. That should free up the looper for that preset.
Is it possible to queue next backing track right after the first preset finishes? So basically one preset finishes playing and it automatically switches to the next one, and starts playing?
Which output do you use for backing tracks for FOH. How do you route them to monitors. Continue the great work. Thanks for these clear video tutorials.
Hello, this is my last resort any help greatly appreciated. This is regarding my Voicelive 3 extreme. I see in the main mix screen I can control the guitar volume, the backing track volume even the xlr volume but not the mic volume? I can't see a separate mic volume in any of the mix screens?? I am using a stereo output mode because I have stereo effects on my backing tracks. I just want an easy way to adjust the elements of my performance (mic, guitar , backing track). The only solution I can think of at the moment is turning the backing track up or down to mix with the vocal but then my guitar levels are all out because I have set those to the backing track!! There must be an easy way I am missing here? Please help. Jason
Please help! How do I connect the VL3X to my drummers ears for live band situation to stay in synch woth automation? And how can he have a click track running without it comming out through the P.A? Please help!
Hello, on minute 10:40 you mention that you can have preset for "backing tracks" and launch all your bt's from that preset. I tried to do that, but the automation seems to work only for a backing track, It seems that the automation won't save per-track basis. I'm I doing something wrong? Should the device record independent automation per track even if I load them on the fly with the method mentioned? Thanks in advance.
The internal audio file format of VL3X for Backing Tracks is 16 bit resolution and 48 kHz sampling rate. If you convert your audio files to this format directly from the signal source (e.g. your DAW), you can save up to 60% of the import time. (Page No. 75 of EN manual for VL3X)
Super series, sir! If you can possibly answer this question for me. I recorded all my tracks (for a Duo that has a full band sound) in Studio One 3. I have a Cymatic LP-16 mono track playback for separate tracks to FOH. It can play midi files back to automate. Thus I can edit it in Studio One. Are the automation recordings editable in the VL3X? If I miss the timing on presses, can I move it in the track, or must I re-record? I'm trying to gauge whether I should use midi automation or do it via the VL3X. Thanks much for your time, Shep
Hi thanks for your video I have two questions for you How much bt can I load on the vlx3? How delete a bt definitely from the vlx in case I don’t use anymore the bt ? Thanks
I have the TC HELICON VOICELIVE 3. I downloaded the track. when i went back to play the track. Icon popped up saying, "Can't play track in use in Daw Modo" Could you please give me some tips to remove Daw Modo and set it up properly? I removed the USB to make sure it wasn't the problem.
Hello! Which product has the best harmony capability? 3 Extreme, 3, or Touch 2? My research seems to reveal 3 Extreme has the most current up to date innovations and capabilities. I don't use looping or backing tracks. I own a VL Rack. Help? :)
Sonaspiper Yes FAR32 is fully compatible with Mac OS X I just have it has a 4 GB transfer limit. To format the hard drive use the “disk utility” application on your Mac. Select the drive on the left-hand side, then select erase and then choose your format. Thanks for the kind comment and wishing you all the best!
if the down arrow is your list of backing tracks; how do I get to each of my sounds that normally use the up/down arrow foot controls ? Is there way to use ext; food control with an outside controller ?
Hi. I'm considering buying a voicelive3 and have a question... Is there a way you can use the backtracks to trigger your patch changes while at the same time, muting the backing track so it doesn't play out the front PA? I use backing tracks through ableton and modulate the sound using midi instruments/kaos pads which I'd lose if it all just went through the pedal. I appreciate if this were the case I'd probably has to trigger both ableton and the pedal at exactly the same time which might be tricky!
Is the automation attached to the backing track file or the preset? Different songs would require different automation and if its attached to the preset you would need a different preset for each song no?
Hi Bishop, Have you come across anything that does what the vl3x does but that can also send midi to control other devices. The vl3x only receives midi
Can I use backing tracks as 'steps" for a preset, so Song1 preset will have 2 backing tracks, Step1 will have the verse backing track, and Step2 will have the chorus backing track? Then I can just flip between verse and chorus backing tracks by using the Step switch?
Hello, can I connect a volume pedal to my voicelive extrême ? And can I control the volume of the all backing tracks with an expression pedal? Thank you so much.
I'm assuming I might not get a response, but I was wondering if there was any way to send the backing track to a different output than the vocal mic. I want to be able to send the backing track to a different channel on my mixer, so I have better control of it, without changing the vocals
I'm at work right now, but I can tell you it has something to do with changing a setting in the main menu, and running an xlr from the (R) vocal out, to a separate channel on your mixer. I'll look at what I did on my VL3 when I get home and give details. Sorry
@bellywhack I eventually Sussed it it was in set up don't really know what I did exactly but it worked tracks play through pa system , but thanks anyway
yes i just bought a Headrush looper, just put the usb pen into usb or a sd card,it works srate away much quicker,i loved my voicelive when it was working, and you can use looper when playing backing tracks,
SEND FOR A CAR That’s a very interesting question. I’ve actually never done that before. I’ve always added the back and track automation with the VLX During playback.

???? Thx AC
Here's my current firmware: pasteboard.co/Hs3l5zB.jpg You'll see I'm on version 2.2.00 build 366
Thx. Just to clarify....the firmware on the vids was a different version than your current version right? Because I also have the 2.2.00 versionbut no import track / performance tabs. Thx AC
Al Craigie no the current version is the version I had while recording these videos.
Great work! I've had one of these for a few years and you showed me a few good tricks. Also, some good refresher stuff on the things I don't use often, but plan to start now. Hope to see some more.
@Joshua Hammond just search on RUclips in the TC Helicon page, lot's of instructions there on how to use the pedal, including the looper.
@Joshua Hammond Go to the TC Helicon website. There are a ton of tutorials on there by Craig and Tom. That's how I learned. =)
Hi Bishop, Any thoughts on getting a click track synced with a backing track? Could you record the track in your DAW with the click track panned to one side say to the right and then put the VL3X in stereo mode and isolate that for the drummer?
Thank you very much for this.
Thank you - please keep the tutorials coming ;-)
Jason
Great tutorial many thank 🙏
Please help! How do I connect the VL3X to my drummers ears for live band situation to stay in synch woth automation? And how can he have a click track running without it comming out through the P.A? Please help!
Great video thanks.
Thank you, brilliant tutorial
Hi Bishop, thanks for the videos. How do you format a thumb drive to Fat 32? Ty
jilas3in1 depends, are you using a pc or mac?
Hi Bishop, I'm so sorry for such a long delay. didnt know you replied. pc. God bless you for doing this. TC Helicon owes you residuals. @@malditoklee
The internal audio file format of VL3X for Backing
Tracks is 16 bit resolution and 48 kHz sampling
rate. If you convert your audio files to this format
directly from the signal source (e.g. your DAW),
you can save up to 60% of the import time. (Page No. 75 of EN manual for VL3X)
Are you sure about audio format of a backing tracks? It should be 16bit 48khz?
Super series, sir! If you can possibly answer this question for me. I recorded all my tracks (for a Duo that has a full band sound) in Studio One 3. I have a Cymatic LP-16 mono track playback for separate tracks to FOH. It can play midi files back to automate. Thus I can edit it in Studio One. Are the automation recordings editable in the VL3X? If I miss the timing on presses, can I move it in the track, or must I re-record? I'm trying to gauge whether I should use midi automation or do it via the VL3X. Thanks much for your time, Shep
Hi thanks for your video
I have two questions for you
How much bt can I load on the vlx3?
Help? :)
Keith Brown I’m sorry Keith, I wish I could be more help, but I currently only owned the voice live extreme 3. :(
Great tutorial can the fat 32 receive audio from Mac. How do you format it. Is VLX compatible with Mac files from Garage band etc. thanks.
Cheers man. Fantastic work many thanks.
if the down arrow is your list of backing tracks; how do I get to each of my sounds that normally use the up/down arrow foot controls ? Is there way to use ext; food control with an outside controller ?
hello alright, i would like to know if you can use the expression or volume pedal to control the backing track, thanks
I appreciate if this were the case I'd probably has to trigger both ableton and the pedal at exactly the same time which might be tricky!
the best why don't you continue tutorials of vl3?
Best tutorial on RUclips,thanks
Thanks for your awesome tutorials. They are a gem!
Is the automation attached to the backing track file or the preset? Different songs would require different automation and if its attached to the preset you would need a different preset for each song no?
Hi, can we change the order of the backing Tracks please? Thank you.
Can we record vocals in the backing track too and save it on the pendrive with no computers involved?
Think I figured it out... I'm testing it now and I'll post the how to and results shortly, in case any one else runs into this issue
I would like to know also
@@nbk21je Yes there is.
I'll explain how when I find time
@@nbk21je I will very soon, promise
I'm at work right now, but I can tell you it has something to do with changing a setting in the main menu, and running an xlr from the (R) vocal out, to a separate channel on your mixer. I'll look at what I did on my VL3 when I get home and give details. Sorry
I,ve stored backing tracks on device , but can't get to play back through my guitar amplifier ?
Check your output mode. The tracks might be going out a different jack.
@bellywhack I eventually Sussed it it was in set up don't really know what I did exactly but it worked tracks play through pa system , but thanks anyway
Hello. How can I save track gain on the same position that I need for every backing track?
Is it not possible to store backing tracks in the standard Voicelive 3 via the looper? Or only on the Extreme version?
I would like to know, how I can do a update from my sound sets, can you help me please?
yes i just bought a Headrush looper, just put the usb pen into usb or a sd card,it works srate away
much quicker,i loved my voicelive when it was working, and you can use looper when playing backing tracks,
i have one question: how can i delete a backing track ? (not the hole preset, only the backing track)
Same question 😅 I use it too, and didn’t found how i can delete the tracks i’m not using anymore...
Fantastic tutorials thanks. Any more would be more than welcome!
Hi!!! Is possible EQ the backing tracks?
Will you have more? I loved your tutorials! :)
How do you add the automation to the backing track before you import it? e.g. using pro tools to add CC/PC midi commands before import.
SEND FOR A CAR That’s a very interesting question. I’ve actually never done that before. I’ve always added the back and track automation with the VLX During playback.
