In the summer of 1974 on a to hot and humid Indiana night my girl and I were listening to this on a little am radio, I proposed to her that night. 36 years later and five great kids all grown up. This is my situation. Right outta high school, I went traveling on freight trains, some of the best experiences of my life so far. Some years went by and here I am finding myself trying to catch up not with others, but where I think i should be. Those ten years went fast as fuck.

I get so emotional listening to these songs.. I literally start crying.. Pink Floyd makes me happy I'm alive, but sad at the same time, but it's a pleasant sadness.. If that makes sense. What I'm trying to say? Thankyou, Pink Floyd, for making the best god damn music I've ever heard. Preach.
The first time I ever heard this song was my second time on acid. I payed on my friends couch with a pillow over my face and watched the words dance in the dark. Then, this song touched something inside me I couldn’t explain. Now I can, I felt nostalgia for the time that was passing around me, conscious of the ticking seconds. That feeling has never left me.
I had a very similar experience in the darkness and listening to this song. Its an intangible feeling and one youre not at all able to express, but somehow instinctively you know that it is right and true.
The genius of young men to say “hanging on in quiet desperation” and “thought I’d something more to say”. How could they know people fifty years older than them thought this way? Perfectly sums up why we cling to life well after the joy is all used up. Thought I’d something more to say…
This song conveys the concept of time better than any other song I can think of. There is a lot of wisdom in this song that just about anyone can relate to.
I don't think Roger Waters was a regular drug user, but maybe he was naturally wacked out; most geniuses are crazy on some level. Syd Barret, well that's another story haha.
My brother bought me this album in 1976 for Christmas. At the age of 16 I thought I had all the time in the world. How true that one day you find ten years have got behind you! The fourth stanza really hits home now in 2018.
I was once a Pink Floyd fan, 72 now. "waiting for some one or something to show you the way" Those words were so true for me friends. One night in the pub in the late 70's I said to my mate "Colin, there's got to be more to life than this, I feel so empty. That was the beginning, as a self employed builder (and still am) I got a large job on a church. A lady came out to speak with me quite often and told me I needed Christ who is the way, truth and life (John 14:6) I once was lost but now I'm found.
Bro, I am so glad the good lord showed himself to you. If you knew me in person you would question the good lord, I am a bit of rough around the edges but God made his way to me as well. GO WITH GOD!
This was one of his favourite tracks, we used to listen to this song all the time while we were hanging out in his car. And now I listen to it to relive all those memories again. He was the love of my life, my soulmate. I never imagined I'd lose him one day. He passed away just recently on 6th September. I didn't even get a chance to say goodbye or tell him I love him. I hadn't seen him for over a month and we were planning to spend our birthdays together. His is on 17th September and mine on 18th of the same month. It was a tragic departure cuz everything was left incomplete. I was holding a grudge against him for the last time we had broken up and when he texted me and said he loves me I didn't even say it back. He kept on asking me when would I return back to Delhi from my hometown. I wish I would have gone back sooner. I didn't even get to hear his voice or see him for the last time and it hurts so much to think I'll never be able to do that again. Please come back Woungh I'm really sorry for all the times I was mean to you but I bet you knew how deeply I love you and I will keep on loving you until the end of time. Always and forever.
I understand. My ex was a drug addict and it destroyed our relationship. We were supposed to get married and have a wonderful life, but drugs stole it all and we split in late 2004. He died alone last July, having gone from being wealthy and extremely successful to physically sick and living hand to mouth because of the decades of addiction. Over the years he kept coming back to say he loved me and that he'd change, but he could never give up the drugs/alcohol. I only found out a month after he died, so missed his funeral. I was devastated by that, so my friend and I decided to have a little funeral for him ourselves. It was beautiful and really helped me to heal. Much love.
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day You fritter and waste the hours in an off hand way Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town Waiting for someone or something to show you the way Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today And then one day you find ten years have got behind you No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking And racing around to come up behind you again The sun is the same in the relative way, but you're older Shorter of breath and one day closer to death Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say Home, home again I like to be here when I can And when I come home cold and tired It's good to warm my bones beside the fire Far away across the field The tolling of the iron bell Calls the faithful to their knees To hear the softly spoken magic spells
Like all Pink Floyd's work. Right from Animals to Dark Side of the Moon to Brain Damage to Atom Heart Mother. All of them are masterpieces. So much depth and meaning, you cannot possibly find just one interpretation to any song. They mean different to every one, at every moment of their lives. However, *TIME & ECHOES* are the most remarkable and imperishable songs ever made in Pink Floyd's era as well as World's music history. You gotta love PF like a religion, may be then you can understand they created masterpieces, not just music and vocals.
I even made up my own story to coincide with Dark Side of The Moon. Here's a link to it: Breathe: The family are heading to the airport to travel to their cousins in Arizona. The daughter is anxious because she's never been on a plane before, so the parents try to calm her down. It works eventually, so they decide to play some road games to pass the time. On The Run: They're boarding the airplane. The plane experiences turbulence during the flight a few times, which brings the daughter's anxiety back up. The parents console her again until the plane crashes in Houston. The daughter is the only survivor. Time: It turns out the plane crashed into a monument made for the gods in order to keep life running. Of course with it destroyed, the gods have no choice but to end all life. So to bring about the apocalypse, they send the Sun towards the Earth. Just for this situation, scientists all over the world had developed spacecraft designed to withstand up to a million people each. Lucky for the girl, one happens to be in Houston. She manages to get inside just before takeoff. The Great Gig In The Sky: The girl is crying now because her home planet has been destroyed, as well as her family. But at the same time, she is in awe of the beauty of the universe. She hopes her cousins made it to a ship. Money: They land on a new planet that can sustain life, and develop their new society rather quickly. It only takes a full year. But when resources start running low, two nations start preparing to war for what's left of said resources. Us and Them: The little girl is forced to participate in the war. Since she is just a child, she is given an assistant to aide her. She and 199 other little girls are trained rigorously to become tough killing machines. Any Colour You Like: The two nations are finally at war. Many harsh battles are being fought, but it all comes to an end when the nuke is dropped. Brain Damage: The assistant is still alive but is lost in the fallout. He looks for other survivors. Eventually, he finds the little girl. She's hurt badly. The assistant attempts to heal her, but a survivor from the other nation kills her off. In a fit of rage, the assistant mercilessly stabs the other survivor. Eclipse: The assistant properly mourns over the little girl, crying over her grave with a bouquet of flowers. In a state of depression, the assistant commits suicide to end the internal pain of not being able to save her. ---THE END---
+Troll Breaker Breathe Reprise: The little girl wakes up 5 years later from a coma only to learn it was all a dream an she had been in a car accident on the way to the airport.
_Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain_ _You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today_ _And then one day you find ten years have got behind you_ _No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun._ Beautiful lyrics
This song hits me hard ever now than the first time I heard it. It was 10 years ago, when I was 17 that I discovered this song and thinking 'It alright I'm still teenager & young!' And then suddenly I'm 27 and I'm still not prepare anything in life :(
I'm 41 years old I have a job, i'm debt free, I've traveled to exotic locations with in my own country and over seas, and yet.. Still no F**king clue about what the hell I'll supposed to do in life.
Being 16, I spent most of my days growing up around the incoherent noise most people into mainstream culture call 'music' so i never considered music to be an art form, more of a way to earn money and fame with little effort involved. Then one day some one very close to me showed me the masterpeice 'Dark Side of the Moon', and my god was it brilliant, each word spoke a million others, each song melded into the next and each note gracefully transitioned off into the next like the colors of the rainbow to collectively make a brilliant piece of art. Now THIS is music.
MY GENERATION SUXX!! listen, while the music of this generation (baby boomers) in general, might appeal more to me. but it doesn't make it more or less, people have different opinions. some might adore this kind of music and others won't. people have different tastes and that's fine. nobody cares if you're 16 and listen to pink floyd, nobody cares if your speech is more sophisticated.
I used to smoke daily but stopped. Now I'm an accountant with my business but everytime I hear my favorite band pink floyd I always light one up!!!! Thanks dad for putting that VHS and told me to watch the greatest band ever. Pink Floyd The Wall!!!!! Can't wait to pop the same vhs for my son.
I will be ~60 in 2050. And I'd be jamin this song. Can you imagine ? Wow. I think I was born in the right generation to teach young people some real good music. Thanks , mom.
Me too, and after my mile swim, paddle boarding off Coronado, I'll celebrate my 90th, Birthday. On April 13th, with another 13 birthdays to go. My Grandpa, Harry Sims, always said, " I'm doing 100," when asked how things were going. Only, on his 100th birthday, looking slightly disgusted on it already arriving, said, " I should have said, 103, I could have lived in three centuries". His only complaint, his feet were sore, at times. Not knowing, shaking all those sick hands in winter, will be hi death. But, what a way to go. Sharp as a tack, and wanting three more yeRs, when you hit 100, no?
Jacqueline Wow... 2050... I'll be 47 and I'll be jammin' to an about 60 year old vinyl of this song on a 34 year old pick-up... You're right... Good generation to be born in... Thanks mom. And especially dad for showing me this kind of music!
Describes a lot of old friends: Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town Waiting for someone or something to show you the way The rest of the song kinda fits what I'm going thru right now. And I'm sure plenty of other are now and always will be. Thats why this is a classic. When I go back to my hometown. I'll karaoke this song at the bar. Home, home again! lol Maybe it'll wake up my old friends who do nothing with their lives.
Over 2000 people who have thumbed down this video have not lived long enough to understand this song, but in Time, they will. We All Do With Time..no pun intended..
😢 I absolutely love pink floyd and by far time is my favorite song on the album. This song makes you realize that life is short and must never be taken for granted. The lyrics are deep and meaningful and the instrumental solo brings tears to my eyes. By far a genius.
I hate people like you because every time period there will be new music and no matter how bad or how good the music is every one has there preferred music choice plus no one really gives a shit of what your age is because all of us just happen to like this music.
I have nothing but wonderful memories with this song, most early 80s when I was young, helping my dad in the garage working on his chevelle listening to records. I'd always choose Pink Floyd (never allowed to touch his vinyl). Time has flown by. It's depressing. He now has brain damage from a bad car wreck 15 years ago, can't remember those times too well....least I can, though.
No matter what age someone is, they are interested in what they're interested in, no matter the expiernences most likely wrought with pain they've been through, everyone often has a way of coping, and recently, although mainly only with teens has that been to cope with whatever inner turmoil and emotional pain brought onto them by whatever it is in their life, and their general respons has been to either use drugs or look at memes for hours. The world never ceasces to amaze me in unexplicable ways, often ways with a deep, often underlying, sadness to it.
I have to be honest, I’m really not a huge Pink Floyd fan, but I can’t put into words how much I love this song. I love melancholic music. Kind of dark and dreary sound, I can’t get enough of it, and this song might be why. I had this album on CD when I was very young. I got a CD player and a pair of headphones gifted to me when I was a toddler, and you’d never see me without it. I played this CD over and over and over specifically for this song. For years, I’ve had the tiniest scraps of memory concerning this song, more a feeling it gave me than an actual memory, but I couldn’t remember any of the words or the name. I found it today and the nostalgia was so intense that it almost brought me to tears. Then once the guitar solo kicked in, it did, and trust me it takes a lot to make me cry. Been nearly 2 decades since I’ve heard this song, and the words I could never remember came back to me so clearly that I could’ve sang along with it if I had really wanted to. If they pressed this song on to vinyl as a single, I’d pick it up without thinking. Hell, I might even buy the album just for Time.
1st heard this over 40+yrs ago n it still sounds as good now as it did then !!!! Timeless album by pink floyd the old hippie " byrdman 62 " enough said !!!!!
Dear Hilleary, I too was reminiscing about this song, and what it means/meant to me. I was so moved by your comment. I am very fortunate that I married my best friend. He is still with me. We’ve known each other for over 38 years. This was one of our favourite albums. I am so sorry for your loss. Music has a way of transporting us back in time. It’s like you are right there with Brit by your side. Enjoy your “Travels” my musical friend. Brit is with you in your heart and in your mind. She is with you every time you think of her. May Brit Rest In Peace. Thank you for sharing that lovely memory with us.🎶😇❤
pink Floyd is about the wall that seperates two types of people. in each of the songs there are two meanings to each of the songs as pink Floyd is the wall that divides the people who find either meaning. the fans are the bricks that make up that wall.
time is supposed to be relative... but over the years it seems congruent. The same sorrow and disappointments. The same heart ache and depression. But. As I listen to this song. These ensconces of sadness seem to make more sense... and in the short seven minutes i seems as though time is still. It seems as though no matter what happens, it is still only time. No longer is it the determent to life I am forced to endure, but the normality of progression. No longer is the time I experience only sorrow, it is just time. Passing of the ages, without judgement, without recourse. Time is only time. Don't fret on the past or wallow in the sadness because time will only progress, so you might as well go along with it. Don't give up because it only means an end to something that is unending. It doesn't make sense to give up, or wallow in sorrow. It doesn't matter if you relish in happiness. The only truth is time will continue with or without you so make your time with it meaningful and be grateful you have the opportunity. That is all.
I was 17 when I started listening to pink floyd in a park in Leicester, now I'm 56 and listening to Time in a park in Antayla Turkey thinking of my beloved brother. God bless you Ron XX
I have wasted so much time, this realization leaves me in such a shock that I am sitting on my couch in the middle of the night, crying after lost potential choices.
It was 1980, I had just bought a Walkman, and offered my mother a listen, as she'd never heard stereo properly, I put this track on, thinking she would not like it, as she was a country fan. How wrong I was, she loved it, and wanted to hear the track till the end. I found her dead in 2008, I still miss her, and think of her when I listen to this song. Thank you, Pink Floyd.
I'm a 57 year old father of 2 daughters who brought his girls up listening to the Mighty Floyd and I'm glad to say that they love Floyd not because of me but for Floyds music and now my 15 year old daughter plays the guitar excellent for her age and can play plenty of Gilmours solo I'm a very proud dad 😂❤
My dear dear friend past away not that long ago. While still bent over from that psychological kick in the stomach (two days later), another dear friend passed away...kinda like getting kneed in the face before any chance to breathe. Thank you to my dear friends that are left who watched over me and held me close just to make sure that I remained a survivor
607 people are still kicking around on a piece of ground in their home town, waiting for someone or something to show them the way, hanging on in quiet desperation; and don't want to admit the sad truth.
I just wanna say that yesterday I read your comment and today I thought about it all day. I had to come back to this video to reply to tell you your post has resonated with me and inspired me to go harder for my goals. I have a general idea of the layout of where my life will go, I'm still quite young and theres a lot of unknowns, but for me I suppose that means I have lots of choices. I will push hard for my goals and enjoy every day i can, even if that means extracting joy from the most menial of jobs. Thank you stranger somewhere for changing another's life.
You are on train journey looking outside the window seeing the sun rise among those far away hills listening to those meaningful lyrics and that outstanding nostalgia arousing DG guitar solo....shivery goosebumps guaranteed ! 💚 from India.
you made this comment in 2021, and 2001 was 20 years ago hence meaning that you should've been 37 while making this comment, bruh you only aged 18 years in 20?
I've been listening to this track most of my life, my dad would constantly play his many records during my childhood. When I got an ipod in grade 7, Dark Side of the Moon was one of the first albums on it. Now a dozen years later, the lyrics hit me lick a truck; they've been relevant this whole time and I never noticed til the Time passed and I could see it from behind.
Somewhere back in time (1975/6) i'm in the pub playing pool & listening to floyd, zeppelin, queen, elton, meatloaf etc......... it's summer, cool lager & a steak and kidney pie for lunch.........life was so much easier then.............
This song.. anytime im at work feeling low i play this.. great inspiration for the ones who've been on that side on the needle.. i say f u get sober its hard.... but you can do it..i did it and i. A pos so i have faith in Yall . Dont give up
Time is a perception but the lyrics on this song are true. Time is everywhere and nowhere . Like a computer page upon page with your perception of your time in whatever zone or page your tuned to. I’m 6ft2in stand by me pick out any item or object and while we might agree on what ever object we looked at we did not see the object exactly the same . My view is from my height. Your view probably a touch shorter. Perception of reality is also time related...oneself never dies you pass to a higher plane.

2) The lyrics. You're just bound to feel guilty.

That guitar solo makes me want to cry because of good it is
+Belphegor *how good
bitch
exactly....
this is the heaviest guitar solo
Every. Single. Time!
Let's face it:
Only Pink Floyd could make a depressing song about mortality sound so damn good.
Every time I listen to the album I feel so low, and yet I keep coming back to listen again.
May I introduce you to Joy Division
Stop This Train - John Mayer
Ruler of Everything - Tally Hall
Street Spirit - Radiohead
The first time I ever heard this song was my second time on acid. I payed on my friends couch with a pillow over my face and watched the words dance in the dark. Then, this song touched something inside me I couldn’t explain. Now I can, I felt nostalgia for the time that was passing around me, conscious of the ticking seconds. That feeling has never left me.
Have you watched live at Pompeii while tripping? Check it out. Echoes!!!!
Now THAT is acid
I had a very similar experience in the darkness and listening to this song. Its an intangible feeling and one youre not at all able to express, but somehow instinctively you know that it is right and true.

Scientific Seal lol it's like cheese and wine, they just go great together
Josh Valenz yes, yes they do.
scientific seal - some things go together very well. Floyd and a buzz blend !
The genius of young men to say “hanging on in quiet desperation” and “thought I’d something more to say”. How could they know people fifty years older than them thought this way? Perfectly sums up why we cling to life well after the joy is all used up. Thought I’d something more to say…
The guitar solo is so climatic and beautiful in this one. Such a good song.
I haven’t found a bad solo in a Pink Floyd song
I know right learning to fly shine on you crazy diamond and this are hauntingly beautiful.
That solo suits this song perfectly.
Gilmour's guitar expresses emotion
This song conveys the concept of time better than any other song I can think of. There is a lot of wisdom in this song that just about anyone can relate to.
its about moving to hollywood and never making it
funny thing is they were completely wacked out as well! lol
If time ever had a sound, it would sound like this.
+brazwen am with you .
+brazwen Definitely.
+brazwen It does, just listen closely after pressing play.
+brazwen time dose have a sound do some drugs youll hear it
+Sean Dallas I've done "some drugs" and all they did was make me feel good. When I've done "a lot of drugs", is when I hear time... and colors. :)
❤❤❤❤
Bro, I am so glad the good lord showed himself to you. If you knew me in person you would question the good lord, I am a bit of rough around the edges but God made his way to me as well. GO WITH GOD!
You should have stuck with Floyd.
Much love.
The most beautiful Albums of all time !!.
Deise gejto
Absolutely. And it will not be better.
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an off hand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way
Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking
And racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in the relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death
Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say
Home, home again
I like to be here when I can
And when I come home cold and tired
It's good to warm my bones beside the fire
Far away across the field
The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spells

If more people would listen to Pink Floyd the world would be a better place. Time
Like all Pink Floyd's work.
I agree!
The best band ever :')
I even made up my own story to coincide with Dark Side of The Moon. Here's a link to it:
Breathe: The family are heading to the airport to travel to their cousins in Arizona.
Mario J Nah, If I pulled the 'it was all a dream' cliche, people would be pissed.
The best song of all time to me. This was and still is a classic.
Right. It's just a masterpiece and this solo by Gilmour, oh my God....
_Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain_

My personal favorite guitar solo ever. Just epic.
Definitely in my top five Pink Floyd songs. What a masterpiece.
I could listen to this album for ever . Well I've listened and enjoyed for close to 50 years so i guess maybe a few more if I'm lucky .
I rank this in my top 10 songs of all time. It is just... sublime.

Can you imagine this song will become ancient at some point ? lol AWESOME
Sharp as a tack, and wanting three more yeRs, when you hit 100, no?
such stuff
:[
Jacqueline Wow... 2050... I'll be 47 and I'll be jammin' to an about 60 year old vinyl of this song on a 34 year old pick-up... You're right... Good generation to be born in... Thanks mom. And especially dad for showing me this kind of music!
Describes a lot of old friends:
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way
The rest of the song kinda fits what I'm going thru right now. And I'm sure plenty of other are now and always will be. Thats why this is a classic.
When I go back to my hometown. I'll karaoke this song at the bar.

You can reach the meaning of this.... until you see behind.... 10 years ago.... 10 years in a breath.... thanks for this master piece
😢 I absolutely love pink floyd and by far time is my favorite song on the album. This song makes you realize that life is short and must never be taken for granted. The lyrics are deep and meaningful and the instrumental solo brings tears to my eyes. By far a genius.
I'm 2 years old and Pink Floyd is much better than the actual shit that we listen nowadays
Amen.
how you understand song if u only 2 year old?
I hate people like you because every time period there will be new music and no matter how bad or how good the music is every one has there preferred music choice plus no one really gives a shit of what your age is because all of us just happen to like this music.
I like how people took this seriously lol
no need to fear suicide is here
I have nothing but wonderful memories with this song, most early 80s when I was young, helping my dad in the garage working on his chevelle listening to records. I'd always choose Pink Floyd (never allowed to touch his vinyl).
Time has flown by. It's depressing. He now has brain damage from a bad car wreck 15 years ago, can't remember those times too well....least I can, though.
good man u sound nice
No matter what age someone is, they are interested in what they're interested in, no matter the expiernences most likely wrought with pain they've been through, everyone often has a way of coping, and recently, although mainly only with teens has that been to cope with whatever inner turmoil and emotional pain brought onto them by whatever it is in their life, and their general respons has been to either use drugs or look at memes for hours. The world never ceasces to amaze me in unexplicable ways, often ways with a deep, often underlying, sadness to it.
One of the finest from Pink Floyd..
Time has not diminished it's appeal..35 years & still counting.....
This song heals every sad moment and at the same time cures the soul. I play it every time I can.
I realized that the intro at the first two minutes of the song is supposed to represent wasting time.

@@aestethical2221 I skipped it so I wouldn't waste the time ;)
I have to be honest, I’m really not a huge Pink Floyd fan, but I can’t put into words how much I love this song.
Best song ever written ! Pink Floyd best band ever !!!

pink Floyd is about the wall that seperates two types of people. in each of the songs there are two meanings to each of the songs as pink Floyd is the wall that divides the people who find either meaning. the fans are the bricks that make up that wall.
dude that's deep
and what are those types?

Hooded Creeper this isn't even off the wall and the wall is the main character having a mental breakdown and living in isolation
what? this literally makes no sense
time is supposed to be relative... but over the years it seems congruent.
Exactly !
