Doug , it is simply not true that it takes 3 singers to do this live. A simple youtube search will yield several live versions with Pink Floyd and only one singer . They did use 3 before but not because only Claire could do it solo. Claire is the best though. Also , not just one take : " She performed two complete takes, the second one more emotional than the first. David Gilmour asked for a third take, but halfway through Torry stopped, feeling she was getting repetitive and had already done the best she could. The final album track was assembled from all three takes.

One of the greatest albums made. The longevity on the billboard charts speaks this timeless classic. 741 weeks according to WIKI. That is like 13 to 14 years straight.
The screams at the beginning of the song always does something to me, its like how much pain and tragedy and trauma a person can go through, Pink Floyd knows how to paint that picture because they lived through that era of post war trauma passed down to the children, so much pain and agony in their music like a screaming child in the middle of a bomb raid his house and family and community destroyed, this song and Metallica the unforgiven paint that picture 😔
Wow, I've found a Metallica fan on Pink Floyd comments. My favorite bands, along with Iron Maiden. And Justice For All is their best album for me. I like the black album and of course the Unforgiven. 👍
Smoking a blunt and listening to this song in a abandoned church in the middle of the night is a whole other feeling Update: No listening to this tripping in acid is a different dimension
Racemixer Berg lol I can tell you when you take a drug and feel like your floating and are listening to this kind of music it’s not the same as real life it’s weird but good
Damn. All these years later...that heartbeat still signifies a grand sweep in music. It tells all of the children to leave the pool as a great wave is about to sweep across the surface.
Every time I have ever flown on a plane, I would listen to Breathe. And I’d time it where the plane would lift up right at 1:10. It’s an actual spiritual experience. My God, I love this song so much!! 🎶♥️😍🤩
Although I prefer songs from other Pink Floyd albums, and that as a concept The Wall is better, I have to admit this one is the best. The transition to songs, the intro and outro to this album, everything... The whole album is just one hell of a trip.
Fantastic. Meant to listen with eyes closed. I read somewhere that the female singer was told to sing like she wanted. however she surprised herself with her own intensity and thought she was going to be fired after she let loose.
Actually she didn't like her performace. They took her first try and slapped it straight on the record. Purely sung from heart, not years of practice and technique.
My favorite album in general. A lot of albums just feel like a compilation of songs, but Dark Side of the Moon feels like it should be listened to from start to finish.
With NO computers! Just the song "Time" is amazing when you think that they had to coordinate all those clocks to ring at the same time. This was all analog, and it still amazing in this computerized age!
Music is so powerfully healing ... this song is all about our first breath, our last breath and the richness of the human condition that lies between ... Start to live and appreciate this moment right now ... it's called the present ... because it's a gift ... Cherish your loved ones, have gratitude for all your blessings ... honour your life, you are here to help humanity in some way ...so rise to the occasion ... peace and love ✌💗🌻
I remember growing up on the rez . Hearing all the grown ups getting drunk with this playing as loud as possible. Hearing people remanessing past times , others yelling about today. And some crying , others arguing . Man those were some different times. But in a way I miss those days . Many many great moments watching family members get wasted without a care in the world. Many of whom are gone now. I'll miss you all. Thanks for the memories. Love you all. R.I.P.
Got to admit first time I heard that song it touched something in my soul and has for over 40 years everytime I hear it..Thank you Claire Torry and Pink Floyd
The absolute best way to listen to this album is wearing a good set of headphones laying outside somewhere quiet in thick cushy grass with a good, low buzz on.
I grew up with all this amazing music I’m still an ol hippie tryin to adjust . I’m trapped in tha 70s those were tha days I thought they’d never end but here I am 60 still takin trips but never leaving tha farm !!!!
@@gerardsaintlouis397 Yes it is guess somethings never change. I’m finding it way to hard to adjust so I just stay under everybody’s radar & just live day by day. We’re dinosaurs ya know ? ✌️
Saw these guys in '73 or '74, can't remember. Anyway it was mind blowing to me, I can't "trip" down memory lane anymore but support and envy those that can. It's kinda funny how I never understood what the elderly generation meant about feeling young until I entered their (my?) world. If my body would just cooperate I would have it made. Here's to looking through the window pane at the orange sunshine!
This brings back memories of standing outside under the summer sky drinking beer passing joints and just having a beautiful time… God I miss those beautiful people and the fun we had. A few have passed on (god rest their souls ) enjoy ur life take time and I hope u (who ever is reading this) make amazing memories ☮️peace and love ❤️
it's kind of strange my birthday is 9 15 66 and Richard Wright??? and im now dying with cancer i hope i see him on the other side I've always been a huge fan all the way back to Barrett and after him i admire "pinky" Floyd" the both were great but NOBODY tops MR. I'm sorry to here this news, I was just scrolling through the comment section and stumbled on your comment. I can't imagine the pain your going through, life sucks sometimes but don't give up, fight for your life until you win your battles. I wish you the best, I pray for you and your family, and most importantly, floyd will numb your pain. Rock on brother, prayers
Did you know the solo this woman does.....they had no idea who she was, they told her to just "feel it" and sing what she felt. It was totally adlibed! They couldn't believe it when she was done! She actually blew their minds! So cool to learn history of songs....
There's another edit of "Breathe" on RUclips that does that, and it almost seems like it was originally one before being split for the ending of "Time".
Breathe, breathe in the air Don't be afraid to care Leave, but don't leave me Look around, choose your own ground Long you live and high you fly Smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry And all you touch and all you see Is all your life will ever be Run, rabbit, run Dig that hole, forget the sun When, at last, the work is done Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one Long you live and high you fly But only if you ride the tide Balanced on the biggest wave You race towards an early grave
I discovered this album in 1988. I was a young teenager and my father was restoring VW Bugs in his spare time. He bought one from a female University student who had just graduated and was moving back home. She left some things in the car and was meant to return for them but never did. Included DSOTM cassette. As I rummaged through her stuff (some keys with a leather Fob, some cassettes, random junk) months later, the scent of her perfume still hung on her possessions and somehow compelled my lovestruck teenage boy's mind (I had never even seen her) to play his strange and unknown tape. Needless to say, I was blown away. Thanks unknown and sweet smelling older student girl, I still sometimes think of you when listening and wonder where you are.
The dark side of the moon constitue, pour moi, le plus bel album de musique progressive de tous les temps. C'est Le chef-d'oeuvre absolu. La voix de Clare Torry est absolument magnifique. Un joyau unique.
Clare Torry is the star. She improvised the best song of "Dark Side" in three minutes. When she had finished her performance in the recording booth, the Pink Floyd guys said; "OK Clare, that'll do just fine - thank you". What an understatement!
Even the the whole album just consisted of this one track as a whole it would still be the greatest album of all time. They leave me speechless every time I listen to them. I discovered them very young and at a very cold and some what difficult time in my life. Sometimes I think they were the only reason I hung in there when I was in the 7th grade. They will forever go down as my favorite band I’ve ever listened to
As a fan for over 20 years, everyone thinks I must do a lot of drugs to listen to this band everyday.....I never used any drugs nor do I drink, the lyrics and instruments simply touches my heart and elevate my mind.
I just read that last comment and it pierced my heart my dad just found out he was cancer free yesterday and I have no words. he taught me everything I know. I love you, papa
I remember when my friend went to buy a stereo the best you could buy those days in store just play Pink Floyd as clear as money could buy just hear the sound of Pink Floyd I wish I could go back to those days. Every time I hear Pink Floyd my memory brings me back to my younger days. One of best albums.
Been listening to Pink Floyd since 1973, never looked back since. David, Roger and the rest of the band....one word to describe the band, Cerebral! Pure genius.
If you heard a whisper of such which most of us do, it means we are passing. And we start to dye the moment we are born, that is why we thrive to live.
I can feel this entire song. Every string touch and instrument coming together as one big beautiful experience that is so much deeper than just the sound.
si, concuerdo, solo hace falta que alguien, tal vez alguno de nosotros, recree este tipo de música y haga historia como ellos, de lo contrario nunca volverá a haber musica tan buena, como Pink Floyd
I was a 70's music youngster and if I had to pick an album that virtually everyone had, and that had the most profound effect on listeners, then I would have to choose this one. It was unique in it's structure and tempo and had a haunting quality that no other album came close to
I agree seeing this live just a week ago for the first time preformed by an accurate cover band I was more than impressed the show had me under so many feeling I can only describe it as soulful and extraterestrial absolutely filled adrenaline like a rollercoaster ride
This connection shows that these two songs could easily be one. It is such a great match between the two of them and it has that climax that none of the songs has separatley during the transition from breathe to the great gig in the sky. It makes me shudder every time I listen to it. Just an exceptional thought to make this connection.
If you've never just lied down and listened to this entire album from start to finish - do it now. This is a mandatory human experience :)

it sounds like spongebob
Smoking a blunt and listening to this song in a abandoned church in the middle of the night is a whole other feeling
Update: No listening to this tripping in acid is a different dimension
The outsiders moment?
Great stuff growing up in Liverpool England 1980,s this was like being astrally projected with a few of the finest an a few bongs

@John Martino you dont need drugs to enjoy pink floyd. You need pink floyd to enjoy drugs
I was in college when this album came out. We did Orange Sunshine on the weekends, and listened to this. Hey, it was the Woodstock era, LOL
it's genuinely like floating. Breathe
How many drugs? Rum for me & i'm floating.

Greatest “headphone album” ever, one of the greatest rock albums of all time… period.
Damn. All these years later...that heartbeat still signifies a grand sweep in music. It tells all of the children to leave the pool as a great wave is about to sweep across the surface.
Temporarily suspends the reality that life often sucks.
Life sucks, but pink floyd makes me going through it.
Heavy words buddy
Amen to that lol
How I'd like..... no, how I'd long..... to leave early.
Very Important lesson in life !
Every time I have ever flown on a plane, I would listen to Breathe. And I’d time it where the plane would lift up right at 1:10. It’s an actual spiritual experience. My God, I love this song so much!! 🎶♥️😍🤩
I would call that an extremely uplifting experience Beth. British rock at its absolute finest indeed.
Everytime I flown intercontinental trip.. Upon the ocean.. This song was with me..
"On the Run" does same airport feel for me.
Very cool, I always have to have a window seat...
was thinking about the same thing
Thee greatest album ever.
I agree !
Best selling album too. The numbers back up your statement
Your damn right it is
Although I prefer songs from other Pink Floyd albums, and that as a concept The Wall is better, I have to admit this one is the best. The transition to songs, the intro and outro to this album, everything... The whole album is just one hell of a trip.
@@woopchicken8371 actually the band 'abba' have the best selling album record!
I travel through time and space and layers of consciousness with Pink Floyd. No boundaries, no limits. It's like an out of body experience.

The one video this actually makes sense
perfect, just enough time to 'Breathe in the Air', one more time.
Fantastic. Meant to listen with eyes closed. I read somewhere that the female singer was told to sing like she wanted. however she surprised herself with her own intensity and thought she was going to be fired after she let loose.
Actually she didn't like her performace. They took her first try and slapped it straight on the record. Purely sung from heart, not years of practice and technique.
damm, really? :O
Wow.. Thanks for sharing
Shows what one can do if one can just let go...

Only the greatest album in the history of rock and roll.
My favorite album in general. A lot of albums just feel like a compilation of songs, but Dark Side of the Moon feels like it should be listened to from start to finish.

Yes
Has to be the best baNd ever!!!
It baffles me the fact that human beings created this absolute masterpiece
Are they actually human tho?
Well put. Absolutely phenomenal
Absolutely love this !! Thanks for sharing !
Thank you Charlie ... Every soul has some uniquely individual gift or talent ... to share and give whole-heartedly, to the whole ... 🌻✌🌅
I've seen people dye. Taking your last breath scares me. Treat everyone like you want to be treated! Your last breath will be easier.
I have been listening since 1973 and still love Pink Floyd. Thank you.
Got to admit first time I heard that song it touched something in my soul and has for over 40 years everytime I hear it..Thank you Claire Torry and Pink Floyd
This album changed my life back in '95. I can't imagine life without Floyd.
I was 5 then did the same to me
J Guerrero 21 here. Dark Side Of The Moon was the first Pink Floyd album I listened to all the way through.I’ve only listened to singles.

The absolute best way to listen to this album is wearing a good set of headphones laying outside somewhere quiet in thick cushy grass with a good, low buzz on.
Unless there's bugs.... :(
You nailed it T.T. Yess...
Me and my friends would go camping drop some acid and turn on Pink Floyd we had a great time late 70s

Was first introduced to Pink Floyd in 1996 when I was 16 by a good friend, It's 2021 now I'm 40 and still listening ✨

A masterwork. When artists come together and create something timeless.
Clare Torry's vocals in "The Great Gig in the Sky" along with the piano accompaniment are quite beautiful and moving.

DAMN THAT CONNECTION FROM BREATHE TO THE REPRISE WAS THE SHIT, HOLY FUCK
I was thinking that too! Excellent Mix I have to say.
There's another edit of "Breathe" on RUclips that does that, and it almost seems like it was originally one before being split for the ending of "Time".
it is the original you are talking about i grew up with the FLOYD

Breathe, breathe in the air
Don't be afraid to care
Leave, but don't leave me
Look around, choose your own ground
Long you live and high you fly
Smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry
And all you touch and all you see
Is all your life will ever be
Run, rabbit, run
Dig that hole, forget the sun
When, at last, the work is done
Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one
Long you live and high you fly
But only if you ride the tide
Balanced on the biggest wave
You race towards an early grave
Probably the most interesting way I've heard someone getting into Pink Floyd thanks for sharing man hah
wow big if tru

Sounds like you've never relaxed a women and yourself at the same time, buddy.
fun facts: the singer was white, and her part was entirely improvised on the spot!
Reva FoSho yep. She was instructed to give them what she would sound like if she was about to die
Clare Torry is the star. She improvised the best song of "Dark Side" in three minutes. When she had finished her performance in the recording booth, the Pink Floyd guys said; "OK Clare, that'll do just fine - thank you". What an understatement!
Just like Merry Clayton!
Not the best song
every song on the album are worthy of being the best tbh. My favorites go to 1.Time 2.Breathe 3.us and them
Even the the whole album just consisted of this one track as a whole it would still be the greatest album of all time. They leave me speechless every time I listen to them. I discovered them very young and at a very cold and some what difficult time in my life. Sometimes I think they were the only reason I hung in there when I was in the 7th grade. They will forever go down as my favorite band I’ve ever listened to
glad you’re still here to enjoy 🙏🏼💖
As a fan for over 20 years, everyone thinks I must do a lot of drugs to listen to this band everyday.....I never used any drugs nor do I drink, the lyrics and instruments simply touches my heart and elevate my mind.

If you heard a whisper of such which most of us do, it means we are passing. And we start to dye the moment we are born, that is why we thrive to live.

Just an exceptional thought to make this connection.
yes. for years I thought it was just one great song.
There's a bit from "Time" in this medley too, so it's actually even three songs :)
