Imagine it's 1973, you just got the new Floyd album, by that time they were an underground prog rock band known for phsychedelic offerings like "Careful With That Axe Eugene" and "Arnold Lane", the only foreshadowed evidence at what might be waiting inside the black and rainbow clad sleeve a still fairly unknown gem "Echoes". The album cover doesn't really allude to anything special, the song titles offer no hint as to what's inside. You place it on the turntable, drop the needle, plug in your stereo headphones, and . . .
"There is no dark side of the moon really. As a matter of fact, its all dark." - My favourite Pink Floyd line ever (and its hidden away at the very end of the album very quietly)
Religion: _"The moon shines a lesser light than the sun."_ Science: _"The moon doesn't shine any light, it just reflects light from the sun."_ Everything under the sun is in tune.
"Everything under the sun is in tune... But the sun is eclipsed by the moon." Honest, profound...dystopic and relevant as ever in these days of naive, blind, technological optimism. Fifty years later and the lyrical warning is still prescient.
In an interview with Louder Sound, Roger Water revealed: "I wrote Brain Damage at home. The grass [mentioned in the lyric] was the square in between the River Cam and King’s College chapel [in Cambridge]. The lunatic was Syd [Barrett], really. He was obviously in my mind."
"You raise the blade, you make the change. You arrange me 'til I'm sane. You lock the door, and throw away the key. There's someone in my head, but it's not me." Tool summed that up nicely.... "Over thinking, over analyzing, separates the body from the mind."
Brain Damage and Eclipse are the bread and butter of prog rock, there’s nothing else like it and I love it :) (and Echoes is one of the best if not THE best meal you’ve ever had)

Over the decades. Meddle has risen to be my favourite album, by my favourite band.
Saw them in Montreal for my 18th birthday and the big stadium. It was my birthday present from one of my best friends in 1995. Thanks brotherman! Stay skateboarding in our dreams til we die!
Happy Birthday Roger Waters born on September 6, 1943. He is an English musician. In 1965, he co-founded the rock band Pink Floyd as the bassist. Following the departure of the songwriter, Syd Barrett, in 1968, Waters became Pink Floyd's lyricist, co-lead vocalist and conceptual leader until his departure in 1985. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roger_Waters#
Was in school when it happened. The local FM Rock Station, though, played the entirety of The Dark Side of the Moon so the song Eclipse’s start or end coincided with the moment of totality, or the closest thing to it considering my home city wasn’t in the direct path of totality but still close enough to see some of it.
"The Lunatic Is In My Head..... ...There's someone in my head, but it's not me." Yup, that pretty much sums up my life....and I have no control over it.
Never ever had I had a song that made me feel so that years ago feels like an hour ago that I’m still the better me I was in the past and never has it changed me completely from who I used to be DSOTM and Pink Floyd may god truly bless you
Unfortunately "mental illness" holds a predetermined stigma....and with so many forms of such, majority of the population.....let alone "specialists"....still don't know how to deal with such specific mental conditions. .... Given I have a combination of two different types in which one compounds the other. Joy.

Im sorry but Pink Floyd's work was written by what I like to call esoteric poets...their music actually has layers to it,the more occult knowledge you possess the more layers you can peel back,its similar to how the Bible is written,this is a masterpiece

I love Atom Heart Mother and Echoes, but this album blew my mind when I first heard it some time around 1976 when I was 8 years old.

If you don't think this album cover symbolizes something special.. YOUR CRAZY

I remember when this album came out and Pink Floyd emerged from progscurity into the fore front of FM rock. This song was a bonus.
What's FM rock
Like AM FM?

one word, amazing.
There is no dark side of the moon, as a matter of fact it's all dark.
(It's only the sun that makes it look light)
It refers to the side of the moon that never faces the earth. Dark meaning unseen to us.
@@SamAceRothstein Frank is saying without the sun how would we know it's dark.
@@sorinankitt Because.. it’d be covered in darkness either way? Lmao..

Anyone else listen to this during the eclipse??
Working but stepped outside to take a look, almost went blind... This was a few years ago though.

Coming right up
Almost
I’m gonna listen to this in 2028, in Australia, during the total eclipse. See you in 4 years!
This is my “everything is gonna be ok” song
The lunatic is on the grass.
The lunatic is on the grass,
Rememberin’ games, and daisy chains, and laughs.
Got to keep the loonies on the path.
The lunatic is in the hall.
The lunatics are in my hall.
The paper holds their folded faces to the floor,
And every day, the paper boy brings more.
And if the dam breaks open many years too soon,
And if there is no room up on the hill,
And if your head explodes with dark forbodin’s, too,
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon. Oh-oh-oh.
The lunatic is in my head.
The lunatic is in my head.
You raise the blade. You make the change.
You rearrange me 'til I'm sane.
You lock the door, and throw away the key.
There's someone in my head . . . but it's not me.
And if the cloud bursts
Thunder in your ear,
You shout, and no one seems to hear,
Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh.
And if the band you're in
Starts playin’ different tunes, hey-hey-hey,
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon.
Oh-oh-oh.
All thatcha touch, and all thatcha see,
All thatcha taste; all you feel,
And all thatcha love, and all thatcha hate,
All you distrust; all you save,
And all thatcha give; all you give;
And all thatcha deal,
And all thatcha buy, beg, borrow,
Or steal; hey-hey;
And all you create, and all you destroy; whoa;
And all thatcha do, and all thatcha say; hey-yeah;
And all that that you eat, and everyone you meet,
Everyone you meet;
And all thatcha slight,
And everyone you fight; whoa-whoa;
And all that is now, and all that is gone,
And all that's to come,
And everything under the sun is in tune.
But the sun is eclipsed by the moon.
There is no dark side in the moon, really.
Matter of fact, it's all dark.

Listening to this during a Lunar Eclipse happening right now.
another one in 2.5 hours :)
Adoro todo el disco, pero los tres últimos temas son un prodigio de final, con este crescendo final con el que me entran ganas de llorar de emoción.
You know everybody wants to play that one Bonnie Tyler song during the 2024 total solar eclipse… too cliche! This is the song I’ll be playing.
You can't enjoy the Brain Damage & Eclipse without listening to the whole album orderly
Brain damaged without eclipse, is just a tease when the drums kick in and the song abruptly stops. I'll play these 2 standalone any, and every day. ✌️
Can’t believe I didn’t think to listen to this during the eclipse. I’m so stupid!!!
Fell asleep in front of the TV and woke up when this song was playing. What a midnight trip.
