If you are at all interested in the CB's I suggest E-bay for an older model. Almost no difference in feel or performance and only $150 or so for a complete set.
I'm a CB user myself (710). I like them because I do like the appearance of the blade and the workability of them, but they offer a slight bit more forgiveness than the MBs. It may be a mental thing because I can see the cavity in the back, but I have more confidence over the ball with the CBs. The AP2 has always seemed a little bit too large for my eye.
I play the 710 cb also, just great irons that I will keep for years. Ap2 just seem a bit big?!!. I dont care what pros play as they are paid to play clubs and they are playing for big $$$$. Im just playing for fun and enjoyment. Play what YOU like.
those are beautiful clubs! and you nailed the 6 iron straight down the line! lovely sound too.. mmm. Going for a club fitting in January, think I might have to give these a whirl.. I like they way you were obviously surprised by these, Rick :)
I just started to play golf a month ago and I struggle to hit the ball consistently with my Mizuno T Zoid game improvement irons but my luck change when I bought a set of old 981 irons (3-9i) with Mizuno MP60 PW and Mizuno G Series sand wedge. Now, I can play like I've been playing it for a couple of years. They're just easy to hit for me and the consistency is amazing. The 6 iron can even reach 230 yards carry during full swings. I'll replace them with CBs or AP soon to further improve my game.
What the handicap range for these? I play R11 irons and I'm looking at these, AP2 and Mizuno MP25. I'm about a 12 handicap that loses strokes with putting mostly. Great review
I've watched a lot of your reviews Rick and wanted to thank you! You go in great depth and have watched every iron review you have out so far this year! Just went in for a fitting today and order the cb's. Absolutely loved the feel and sound! Can't wait to get out tomorrow and tear them up! Thank you again so much! Best of luck to you!
I have CB's they are in my opinion a little harder to hit than the AP2's, the appeal they have is that they have that more classic look for players who don't want the more modern colour scheme of the AP2's
These remind me of the old DCI 990's in appearance, that's the classic look I see here. Smaller of course and forged, but the cavity design is from back then. To be honest, if Titleist had made a forged DCI in the late nineties it would have looked pretty much like this.
These look so nice and numbers were great. Im getting fitted for new irons late Oct/Early November because i've been waiting for the 716 range to come out. Will give these large consideration. The AP2's were disappointing and im not a huge fan of the looks - but i'll give them a test for myself before writing them off. Looking forward to your T-MB and MB reviews Rick. Might even go for a combination of clubs
I can't wait to hit the new CB's! I play the Mizuno MP-64's now and love the look and feel of a CB club. Great video. Keep them coming +Rick Shiels Golf Channel !
I have the 695 cb's and they are fantastic irons. If the 716 hit better than them I'd be impressed. The biggest thing I like most about Titleist products is they last forever! I'll probably have the 695s for another few years and I play every week.
It's 2024 and I'm still playing the 716 CB's. The improvement in my ball striking is because of lessons, so I've seen no reason to change clubs. I may give the Ping or Titleist T150 irons a look this summer
Nice to see the new Titleists! Shame if they are thought of as a forgotten club as they are great clubs! I play with CBs, albeit an older model in the 695s, but love them and get a great flight and feel with them. Don't think the look has changed much from 710s through 712, 714 and now 716 but they are a 'classic' looking club, as you say.Maybe you should turn to them Rick - you seemed to hit mine well during lessons down at Trafford! ;-)
hey Rick love your videos, one thing that'd be cool is to somehow grade the clubs about your thoughts of them i.e. distance, control, forgiveness, look. etc.
we can't tell but they sounded softer than the ap2 I think if u were trying either of those u would probably be best trying them both and seeing what suited u best..they kind of sit in the same space
If I was spending £800 on a set of clubs i dont think I would want the "Pre worn" edge, I understand what its for but I also understand how to use a longer club.
I play the 2014 Callaway Apex and enjoy them. I strike them quite well and I'm currently sitting at a 12 handicap. Would moving up to this club be a bad idea? I know forgiveness has been really enhanced with the 716 CB, but is it still considered a single-figure iron? Thanks!
Hey Rick, were you using the same shafts on the CB's you used on the AP2s? I noticed that with the 6 iron you were getting around 1000 Rpms avg less of backspin with the AP2 and also had a higher carry avg than the CB. Any idea why?
+Eduardo Escobar The reason for the slightly longer distance is probably the 1 degree less loft in the AP2's. AP2 6 iron is 30 degrees and the CB is 31.
+Juan Colmenares Yes. 31* loft for a 6 iron on these, 27.5* for the TM PSi 6 iron, 29* Callaway Apex Pro, 30* Mizuno MP25, and 29* for Ping i 6 iron. So these are some of the weakest lofts in the industry. So we shouldn't be surprised that these are just a touch down on comparable distance with most other offerings. Anyway, it's not about what it says on the bottom of a club, only about the yardage gaps in our bags. Whether it says '6', '7' or 'Maureen' on the bottom is irrelevant. Too many people think about distance relative to the number on the bottom, instead of knowing how each club performs for them, and picking a set that feels good, and getting the yardages to fit nicely gapped. I'm not against strong lofts, it does no harm for a high handicapper to think he is hitting a 7 iron into a Green, and if it helps with his confidence it's not doing anyone else any harm surely. Even though the number on the bottom may say 6 on my clubs. The lofts will be the same and therefore so will the yardages. Remember it's the loft that dictates the distance, not the number stamped on the bottom. Wink!
such a beautiful club. no flashy design patterns, no gimmick names...the simplicity underlies its beauty. I feel a purchase coming on. can anyone comment on its forgiveness?
I bought these, they are forgiving. Just GREAT irons. Incredible feel. The difference btween forgiveness on an AP2 and CB is very little -and thats what Titleist states. GET THEM,,,,awesome irons.
I swear on my kids life that while watching this vid I was thinking to myself I bet Spieth uses these lmao and then he said Spieth uses them haha no bs!!! I like Rick cause he is just like us lot still and he is a pro and just shows even elite players can be inspired by tour pros to by certain gear etc and no matter how good you are it's always nice to have someone to look up to.
Buying the 716 ap1 says 'I have no faith in my game. all is lost. maybe this product will help me.' The 716 ap2 is a chunk bomb and just as cowardly as the ap1. The mbs are way too Eisenhower era. The cb is the way to go. A true golfers club. People need to get plugged into this set. Wayyyyy more forgiving than its being advertised.
patrik streng Check out the 710's too. I'm guessing the same club; I personally think the 710's look better too. Maybe go to your pro shop and hit a couple :)
Hey Rick, were you using the same shafts on the CB's you used on the AP2s? I noticed that with the 6 iron you were getting around 1000 Rpms avg less of backspin with the AP2 and also had a higher carry avg than the CB. Any idea why?
Of all the previous Titleist CBs, these are by far the most forgiving imo. Great club.
Just got a used set of these. Can't believe how forgiving they are.
If you are at all interested in the CB's I suggest E-bay for an older model. Almost no difference in feel or performance and only $150 or so for a complete set.
Riley would hitting a new set in store be a good indicator in how the older sets will feel/perfom?
no, this is the first year they made any changes to the cb's in years. cb's from 2004 to 2014 theres almost no difference.

I just bought these used for my first set of irons I’m excited truly.
By far my favorite in the line. The CB irons have it all. Best of blades and best of the help from GI irons without the deficits.
Exactly, they are the best clubs i've ever hit, even better than my ap2's.
Thanks for reviewing the Titleist 716 CB. Will add it to my possibility list.
I love my set of 716 cb, best looking club if you cant play blades. Great feel.
those are beautiful clubs! and you nailed the 6 iron straight down the line! lovely sound too.. mmm. Going for a club fitting in January, think I might have to give these a whirl.. I like they way you were obviously surprised by these, Rick :)

I use the CB in longer irons with a CB/MB split set. Works well as the lofts are identical.
What the handicap range for these? I play R11 irons and I'm looking at these, AP2 and Mizuno MP25. I'm about a 12 handicap that loses strokes with putting mostly. Great review
+Jack D Probably scratch to 8 but i play off higher and these are beautiful to hit.
Bought these irons. Theee greatest irons i ever hit, and Im coming from Mizuno mp 69. These have fantastic feel and forgiveness. GREAT irons.
My favorite irons I’ve ever used. Idk why they just work for me
something a bit more forgiving for the bag rick? you are going for the open.
I've watched a lot of your reviews Rick and wanted to thank you! You go in great depth and have watched every iron review you have out so far this year! Great video. Keep them coming +Rick Shiels Golf Channel !

I'd love to see Rob test these.
A combination of CB and MB irons works really well for me, as some tour players as well.
Kicking the Ben hogans out. I can sense it Rick.
+Quintin Carr no way! Don't do it
How would you compare the Mizuno JPX 900 Forged to the Titleist CB 716?
I've currently got 710 cb/mb irons, I've been looking forward to these all year! Might be time to upgrade...
Pretty simular to the Titleist DCI 990 clubs, as well 👌
always love the look of the cb's but prob not forgiving enough for me unfortunately. However looks like might be going into shielzys bag
It's 2024 and I'm still playing the 716 CB's. The improvement in my ball striking is because of lessons, so I've seen no reason to change clubs. I may give the Ping or Titleist T150 irons a look this summer
Just bought a set of these today & can't wait to get out there with them!!
Wow! Best sounding club yet -- clippy, but confidence-inspiring. You'll know when you hit it well.
Nice to see the new Titleists! Shame if they are thought of as a forgotten club as they are great clubs! hey Rick love your videos, one thing that'd be cool is to somehow grade the clubs about your thoughts of them i.e. distance, control, forgiveness, look. etc.
I've always been a CB player. Switched to S55s last season, but considering giving these a try. Any opinions of feel/performance?
we can't tell but they sounded softer than the ap2 I think if u were trying either of those u would probably be best trying them both and seeing what suited u best..they kind of sit in the same space
Rick, can you do a head to head on the Titleist 714 CB and 716 CB irons? Would love to see it!
you said "quite similar to the ap1" is that true? or was that a slip of the tongue? i thought they were a little smaller and more bladey than the ap2s
Hmm, didn't even consider the CB's. Looks interesting!
The best clubs i have hit till today. I have to hit some mbs though.
cheers Rick. can you compare against MP25's. both clubs aiming at the same market.
Such good looking clubs.
What handicap would you suggest can/cannot play it?
Looks like a DCI 990 to me but I don't know if they had any tungsten
Could consider replacing my good ol' CB 704's with these
there is a good market for CB irons because a lot of the lower handicap amateur golfers are being for a Titleist MB/CB combo
Ever considered making sure what you write makes sense before posting?
Are you going to review the new hybrids from Titleist? Would really like to see how the new H2 performs!
If I was spending £800 on a set of clubs i dont think I would want the "Pre worn" edge, I understand what its for but I also understand how to use a longer club.

it can't be a bad idea to switch to titleist clubs, imo. if your ballstriking is ok or better, the cb's are just awesome, as well as the ap2's
AP2 6 iron is 30 degrees and the CB is 31.
titleist clubs lie is on the upright side. i think ping are 0.5 flatter and mizuno at least 1°.
maybe why they go left
Sorry never was an AP guy. Always a CB guy, these are the best CB they have made in years. Just buy them. They are great !
What's the handicap range
George Stephens 10-0
Forget handicap. If you have a repeatable fair swing - they are fine for you.
lol you mean quite closely matched to the AP2, not the AP1*
Hey Rick, can you please do a video comparing the CB's to the mizuno MP-25's?
Love these clubs
I noticed you carry these irons less than other sets. Is it because these are "players" irons or because the lofts are weaker?
+Juan Colmenares Yes. 31* loft for a 6 iron on these, 27.5* for the TM PSi 6 iron, 29* Callaway Apex Pro, 30* Mizuno MP25, and 29* for Ping i 6 iron. So these are some of the weakest lofts in the industry. So we shouldn't be surprised that these are just a touch down on comparable distance with most other offerings. +JAG sixtyfive well explained
such a beautiful club. no flashy design patterns, no gimmick names...the simplicity underlies its beauty.
I feel a purchase coming on.
can anyone comment on its forgiveness?
CR Wing they aren't very forgiving.... a touch more then blades though

Buy*
Jordan plays the AP2's not the CB's.
Just been told Spieth uses AP2 and Rick says so in the vid, well I feel like an idiot now!!
+TheDanbarian happens to the best of us
Can u pls do the 716 cb vs the mp-5 or mp-25
The numbers you showed where from the ap's?
+Joe v Not sure how that happened. All the data shown was from the CB's seems the data name changed names. Weird thanks for the spot
"the Open" here I come.... With CB's Rick?
Buying the 716 ap1 says 'I have no faith in my game. all is lost. maybe this product will help me.'
The 716 ap2 is a chunk bomb and just as cowardly as the ap1.
The mbs are way too Eisenhower era.
The cb is the way to go. A true golfers club. People need to get plugged into this set. Wayyyyy more forgiving than its being advertised.
+Patrick McCann Agree. I play the 710 cbs, pure quality club.
The 710 CB is a GREAT iron. Keep them. i know Pros that think they're one of the best irons ever.
Have anybody compared these with Wilson fg tour v6?
These vs. mizuno mp-15?
rick would you say these are the modern day equivalent to my titliest dci 918?
So is the club more of a low handicap club?
Yes.
+patrik streng Yes but they are beautiful irons, if you can hit the center more often than not, these are a pleasure to play with
They do look very good :)
patrik streng Check out the 710's too. I'm guessing the same club; I personally think the 710's look better too. Maybe go to your pro shop and hit a couple :)
Ok
actually 716 MB hits longer !
Look like the dci's
First wassup rick
155 with an 8 iron?! C'mon son!! Bring some power into your game!
Try not to talk too much at the beginning of a video
Hey Rick, were you using the same shafts on the CB's you used on the AP2s? I noticed that with the 6 iron you were getting around 1000 Rpms avg less of backspin with the AP2 and also had a higher carry avg than the CB. Any idea why?
