Blue Wyvern the xbox one is the only one who is having proper backwards compatibility. Original Xbox games will soon work on it. However at launch no old games worked, ps4 still has no support aside from digital PS1 games (also abomination that is PS now and a few digital ps2 games) switch has virtual console but as far as I know, that doesn't include GameCube, wii or wiiu. Companies today would much rather want to see their game twice with a resolution bump

Landon Hood from what I understand, if you purchased the 3DS before the price drop Nintendo released some games from the GBA exclusively for these systems on the eshop. I believe the program was called, "The Nintendo Ambassador Program." Definitely a cool little thing. It's still infuriating though that there haven't been any released for those bought afterwards.
Landon Hood the 3DS is not powerful enough to emulate GBA. and VC games have to have the VC overlay, therefore have to be emulated. the embassador games are not emulated, they run in DS mode and the DS hardware can run GBA games. in DS mode it can't have the VC overlay, therefore Nintendo doesn't release GBA VC games

Theres also an unofficial gameboy adaptor for the N64, I had one, it was rubbish and instead of playing the Gameboys own sounds it had its own soundtrack that broke your eyes if played for a certain amount of time

I had just a few games for GBA, but I'm glad to see clips of them in this video. I had Megaman Zero, Golden Sun, Wario Land 4, Superstar Saga and a few others.
The Gameboy advance was a huge part of my childhood! Me and my friends were always versing each other in Megaman Battle Network series and the Megaman Zero series also Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones.
Man the GBA SP holds a special place in my heart along with Pokémon RS and MMBN3 BW. It brought me and my brother a lot of joy even though things at home were falling apart, domestic violence, my father was gone for months at some other state for work, my mother working at a sweatshop to provide. Luckily it all worked out but man did this console bring joy to me and my twin brother in some of the darkest time in our lives.
The gameboy advance sp. Although I was little when it came out, I still have one. My DS Lite is a great successor to the GBA cpu. The GBA introduced pokemon remakes, mario & luigi RPG debut, metroid fusion, classical mario remakes, even FINAL FANTASY. Also that mario kart music is some of the best of its kind! It shall never be forgotten.
You try strapping a disk drive to the Switch and tell me how long the battery life stays up. Seriously, I can't fathom why people thought the Switch was going to be even remotely backwards compatible. And even *if* you managed to sidestep that issue, games like Splatoon require the use of both the gamepad and the TV screen. So even if you could use the Wii U disks, it would do jack all for anybody. Much more plausibly, I could see someone wanting a 3DS cartridge slot in it, but with as huge an install base as the 3DS already has, I can't see too many people having a Switch without the 3DS. Just doesn't seem like a priority. I'd rather the Switch have its relatively low cost kept that way rather than slam even more hardware inside it and jack up the price even more.
Also keep in mind that the Switch is a new hardware of its kind. So how is this hardware suppose to be backwards comparable with both Wii U and 3DS physical media? Those system require dual screen and the touchscreen is different from the Switch. You guys are acting like Nintendo is abandoning backwards comparable altogether when the company is thinking about the future. I will guarantee that the Switch will have a successor that will have Switch games comparable due to its small cartridge.
The Gameboy advanced was probably my favorite handheld. So many great games on it and because they were all 2D, you can still pick any one if then up and they haven't aged a bit. I played advanced wars with my friend in biology class in the morning. Ahhhh...the good ol' days.

The GBA virtual console on the 3DS actually runs natively and is not emulated since the 3DS contains the ARM7 CPU as well.

The gameboy advance sp. Although I was little when it came out, I still have one. My DS Lite is a great successor to the GBA cpu. The GBA introduced pokemon remakes, mario & luigi RPG debut, metroid fusion, classical mario remakes, even FINAL FANTASY. Also that mario kart music is some of the best of its kind! It shall never be forgotten.

I think they are talking about the switch
You try strapping a disk drive to the Switch and tell me how long the battery life stays up. Seriously, I can't fathom why people thought the Switch was going to be even remotely backwards compatible. And even *if* you managed to sidestep that issue, games like Splatoon require the use of both the gamepad and the TV screen. So even if you could use the Wii U disks, it would do jack all for anybody.
Much more plausibly, I could see someone wanting a 3DS cartridge slot in it, but with as huge an install base as the 3DS already has, I can't see too many people having a Switch without the 3DS. Just doesn't seem like a priority. I'd rather the Switch have its relatively low cost kept that way rather than slam even more hardware inside it and jack up the price even more.
Also keep in mind that the Switch is a new hardware of its kind. So how is this hardware suppose to be backwards comparable with both Wii U and 3DS physical media? Those system require dual screen and the touchscreen is different from the Switch.
You guys are acting like Nintendo is abandoning backwards comparable altogether when the company is thinking about the future. I will guarantee that the Switch will have a successor that will have Switch games comparable due to its small cartridge.
I actually just got a GBA emulator yesterday.
The Gameboy advanced was probably my favorite handheld. So many great games on it and because they were all 2D, you can still pick any one if then up and they haven't aged a bit. I played advanced wars with my friend in biology class in the morning. Ahhhh...the good ol' days.
