Loved how The Minish Cap integrated a bunch of folk tales within its gameplay.
Almost half an hour of GBA facts?! you guys are awesome! the GBA is one of my favorite systems so this is great to see.

I think the unfinished portrait of Goku you saw is the same portrait they used in the previous game: legacy of Goku 2. I must've played those games a thousand times as a kid! Long time fan of your channel too!

Would probably never happen, but I would love a brand new 2D Zelda game. I mean real 2D sprite work. No polygons ala ALBW. With modern hardware and visual effects (particle effects, crazy amounts of parallax scrolling etc) it would be a retro gamers dream.
They did that cadence of hyrle game recently that had beautiful sprite work but the gameplay wasn’t what I wanted would of killed for that artwork in a more traditional Zelda format
I mean the 2D NES prototype of BotW was a thing, nothing particularly outstanding but still neat

Honestly that kinda sad to read about. Cause both the firered/leafgreen remakes were being made and then emerald came out not too long afterwards. That’s a lot of time just constantly working without long needed breaks
@@Nowaydardo that is why gamefreak tried to create other games and franchises that werent pokemon for a while, but the only responce that people had was to get angry because "all of this games are interfering with the development of new pokemon games" and ultimately all of those games flooped and they had to return to pokemon
one has to wonder if the reason why the latest pokemon games are in the state that they are is because the development team is just sick of making more and more pokemon games
@@carso1500 It wouldn't surprise me if that turned out to be the case. It's sad to think about. I think they should hire more people so they can all take turns getting a break from Pokemon to work on other games.
The Minish Cap is one of my favorite games of all time. It truly has a special place in my heart, and its a shame it was released so late in the GBA's run
But it was able to take advantage of all of all of the GBA's strength's because they were so well known at the time TLoZ: The Minish Cap was made.
For the same reason, Drill Dozer is one of the best GBA games.
That's because the PSP scared Nintendo and they rushed to release a new portable videogame console.

Man I hope they remake minish cap or do something with it soon. I think the micro-scale aesthetic is underutilized and there's a lot of potential there, especially with modern mechanics and systems

I did not realize Castlevania had a kamen rider easter egg. Good job pointing out the references! „Ancient“ also sounds like „henshin!“, the exclamation kamen riders make when transforming. Hence the transforming devices are commonly called „henshin belts“.
Minish cap and legacy of goku were my favorite games as a kid. It's great to see some representation all these years later.

The "goofy" portrait of Goku is used in-game at one point, I believe. When he's revived for a day on Earth.
I’ve recently been replaying Minish Cap, so it’s great to learn some new history behind it!
Minish cap is a great game, My favorite game is still within the OG GB/GBC Trilogy (Link's Awakening/Oracles of Seasons/Oracles of Ages)... Glad to see a fellow Zelda fan!!! In the Spirit of Hyrule: I present a Thumbs Up!!!

@@MrKevosmin I must totally agree, But the total guess is that Nintendo is making Tears of the Kingdom, and all other projects related to Zelda are possibly on hold as I speak... This is just speculation through my POV... Not my space to make stuff up or anything about it...
Although I love when a Zelda game puts more emphasis on the overworld, I've grown an appreciation for the dungeons I didn't used to have.
It definitely would be a nice to see the Kinstone system returning one day in a future Zelda game,
perhaps on the next big one after TotK, and on the next-gen Nintendo console.

Maybe Aonuma meant he wanted sidequests that unlock more parts of the world to be a recurring feature, not literally kinstones.
I would love to see how BotW would have turned out with the Minish in it. Hopefully they come back in TotK.

Minish Cap was absolutely fantastic and gets way too little love and mention nowadays which is a shame. Especially considering it's a GBA game it's so well made and pretty full with content.
I remember when the Hyrule Warriors director said that they did everything they could with the Zelda franchise even though they outright ignored The Minish Cap, felt so frustrated
In Pokemon Emerald, if you use a GameShark/Action Replay to allow you to walk through walls, you can use it at the top of Sky Pillar (where you encounter Rayquaza) to bypass the barricade rocks, and on to the more fragile-looking spaces that collapse upon interaction---which results in the player falling through, but rather than falling to a lower level in the tower, that player will end up in front of that house in Petalburg City!

When I saw they were going to do trivia for _Final Fantasy Tactics Advance_ I thought they were going to address how, in the Japanese version, the game spells out that the world of Ivalice the characters are transported to is not real, and the book responsible for it was trying to eat their souls or something,. I'm not 100% on the details. However, in the English release, it is left ambiguous as to what is going on, thus making Marche seem like a bad guy for destroying what is apparently a real world populated with real people, where his friends are living happily. Elaborating on that plot point may be worthwhile in a future episode, unless they've already covered it and I've forgotten?
... Huh. This is the first time I hear about that, and now I imagine what it would have been like if we got the Japanese story here. So many internet arguments that could've been avoided... but would I want to miss out on all those fights? That is the question...

16:17 I know this is really petty of me to point out, but that "Unfinished Goku Portrait" is actually Goku's portait from Legacy of Goku 2, they simply carried the sprite over from the previous game as a placeholder until they could make a new sprite.
It is goofy though, as were all the portraits in LoG2, but that's part of the charm.
Hearing about the unused NPCs in Golden Sun and ailments I would have absolutely used is really cool to hear, I genuinely didn't know about that. Always great to hear more about one of my favorite Turn-Based RPGs.
You didn't have to tell me it was going to have Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon. Every DYKG video is about Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon. (can't wait for that & more though)
Bear in mind that, in Japanes,e the expression that would be literally translated as "end of the century, "seikimatsu" (世紀末）doesn't only impli a literal end of the century, but an END OF CIVILIZATION. Anime such as Fist of the North Star, and scenarios such as the world of Fallout games are usually described using that word. So the reference might NOT be about the end of the 20th century, but about a world-ending attack or something like that.

The fact about banjo kazooie grunties revenge is really interesting, I wonder why they never used the 3d aspect after programming it, they could have used an Isometric style that would have brought it out while still keeping the top down aspect. Some brilliant modder should make that, mod Grunties Revenge to take advantage of the 3D they made but didn't utilize
The 3-D is what was used. They said that it was unseen because of the top-down aspect. But the world is in 3-D. So basically, most people might not have realized it was 3-D because the game is presented as a 2-D platformer. The only thing that was unused was the Nintendo logo.
@@JustToConnect that's what I'm talking about though. They made the game with 3D but it's not even visible because it's flat top down perspective. If they had done something like sonic 3D blast with a Isometric perspective, they could have probably put that 3D to more use.
@@gensteps923 Ok, I see what you mean. Honestly, I don’t think it was completely unnoticeable. For me, personally, I noticed it. But I was more focused on how rough the gameplay was, so I wasn’t really impressed. That translation from 64 to GBA was ROUGH, lol. Chances are, the reason they didn’t allow for the isometric view is because the GBA probably couldn’t handle it with the 3D, or that isometric view wouldn’t work with the small GBA screen. Top-down was probably the way it worked best. I think I’d much rather someone completely remake the game than to just mod it, because I hated the game so much, but a mod would be interesting to see too.
@@JustToConnect yeah your probably right. That's a better idea anyway. A person should remake the game in full 3d in the N64 style. That's would be cool.

Minish Cap is pretty close to being my favorite Zelda. I loved this game. I really want to see it rereleased. I would pay full price for this, $60, just make it look nice in docked mode. Even better if they throw in Four Swords with the Four Swords Anniversary games with it.

I once had a dream about a Minish Cap prequel/sequel that was made in Breath of the Wild's engine, it was majestic, but I'm not gonna copypaste that snippet from my dream diary here for the 15th time.

Seeing TFS legacy of Goku footage on here is a bit funny to me- I watched it back when they were playing it, and it's even where I pulled my current icon from. I know you guys use whatever footage is available and clean, but it was a quick blast to the brain for me haha

8:55 I actually had no idea this was a little known thing, I've actually encountered it a couple of times in my playthroughs of the games, once because I wanted to know what would happen, once because I had horrible luck with tackle missing. I think it was on zigzagoon one of the times though, I can't quite remember. It's all just very interesting to me.
Also, man I remember drill dozer. I never got to get it but it was the first GBA game I ever played, they had it in a kiosk at my local walmart and I honestly don't think I would have gotten into video games like I had if not for it.
Did you know in pokemon red or fire red cant remember witch one it works on. There is a guy left of nugget bridge in misty's city (do not battle him) if you came back after you can use the HM fly! stand above him off screen then walk down and press start at the same time! it will pause the game at the same time he activates. fly back to misty's city then run back to the guy to the left of nugget bridge and check the grass he stands in. the first encounter will be mew!
So this confirms it: Buu’s Fury WAS supposed to be Legacy of Goku 3 but it was changed for some reason

The irony of testers complaining to Sugimori that many of the Pokémon "don't look like Pokémon" as it was his job to ensure they look consistent, just for the newest Pokémon actually looking less and less like they belong in the franchise making it into the final game and Sugimori getting a reduced role in the franchise
They were right though, Ruby & Sapphire have the least fantastical designs in the series.

@@ZiggyPalffyLA Dunno, wouldn't say that being "fantastical" is a requirement for a design to look like it belongs into the Pokémon franchise (eg: Pidgey, Ekans, Krabby, etc.)
Gen 3 Pokémon were designed with the particularity of *not being limited by the merchandise* like in previous or future generations (why so many newer Pokémon have toy-like proportions and stiff postures that perfectly match the official figures)
Hoenn Pokémon are very well-balanced between being beliveable naturalistic creatures that inhabit this world and culturally-relevant folklore: Pokémon based on yokai such as the Kappa, the Tengu and Futakuchi-onna are attractive without needing to know their clear-cut inspiration

I'm pretty sure that "goofy looking" Goku portrait is from the beginning of legacy of Goku two in which Gohan has a nightmare where Frieza has disguised himself has Goku (somehow). It looked goofy to me even as a kid looking at it in the correct context.
Anything involving Golden Sun gets an automatic like from me. Maybe one day it'll be back.
