Fun fact: the gulf war Gameboy is still at the Nintendo store in New York City right now. Was just there on Thursday and saw it there.
boring fact I knew that
Does it still run?
@@m4ssee indeed, it should have a prize for the most running console without being turned off ever.
Wow
yeah they leave tetris on it running 24/7
I wonder if that dude who was just randomly playing with his calculator knows what he indirectly inspired.
The Butterfly Effect at its prime form.
SWORD OF THE SPIRIT
BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

You didn't, it was a hallucination
You forgot about DQ5 Hero
4:38 Chun-Li and a Ninja Turtle
OliRock92 and The Hero of Dragon Quest V.
You didn't mention how the GameBoy Camera was the first game in the United States to feature Pokémon. It pre-dates Pokémon Red and Blue by 3 months.
Really? didn't know that.
That would have required them to do new research
Yup. Charmander, Squirtle, Bulbasaur, Meowth, Pikachu, and Mew all appear as stamps to put on your pictures.
@@NikkiWrightVGM which confused me as a kid
I remember seeing those stamps as a kid and wondering what kinda Japanese characters they were. then Pokemon happened, and I was like "i know this creature!"
Wait, so Mario, Goku, the protagonist from Dragon Quest 5 and Buster Bunny know each other?
Like always, Krillen gets the short end of the stick and gets ignored yet again.
But ya I was mildly amused by that commercial showing, Dragon Ball characters, Tiny Toons, and Yoshi all together, didn't recognize who the dragon quest guy was supposed to be as I never played the series.
That sounds like one of those jokes with people walking into bars.
But I saw Krillen, and Chichi too.
Did they really just take the dykg Gameboy episode with vsauce3 and change the narrator?
so epic dude
Pretty much lol
@Guybrush Threepwood +1
yes.. yes they did.
Why though??
They're remaking this video so that way they can remake the projared videos , and then dykg can claim that they're "remaking old videos" in bulk, and some of those include projared. Smart move. Smart move
On the one hand I'm glad the controversy is dying down so that Heidi can get some normalcy. On the other is it *ever* fun to clown on Jared.
Or they run out of trivia
And yet the Jontron videos are still here; they're now labeled "old".
Brettski89 he was on some stream where he and another guy were debating something about race and said something about rich black man can get away with crime and what not. The entire thing was dumb.
@Brettski89 iirc, that wasn't the only/most stupid thing Jon Jafari said during that interview or in the time since. Now while that isn't anywhere near as bad as soliciting compromising photos from fans (some of them under the age of consent) under false pretences for the actual purpose of mocking them, it's important not to be an apologist for any kind of bad behaviour.

Pokémon gold and silver were the best selling games for the Gameboy Colour back in the days
Pokemon G/S are actually regular Game Boy games, they just have enhancements when played on GBC. Most of these GBC enhanced games are on black carts, and Japanese G/S actually are on black carts, but the international releases got an exemption from the color scheme because this was the heyday of Pokemania.
Crystal is a GBC game through and through, though. You can trick it into running on a GB, but the results are... not pretty.
I hope that Nintendo makes a Game Boy Classic Edition someday
Factcheck:
The Game Boy Light was NOT backlit and neither was the original model Game Boy Advance SP. They had a front-light instead.
The actual first Nintendo Handheld to be backlit was the Nintendo DS.
This was a nice blast from the past from DYKG. Even though most are old facts, still enjoyed it. Keep up the good work guys!
Dang getting your ALMS race results from a gameboy must of been the hardest flex of the early 2000s
American Le Mans Series??
4:40 Wierd seeing a commercial with Goku, Yoshi and that Tiny Toons Bunny
Buster Bunny
What was the commercial for???
@@lh9591 It's from an old Korean commercial to promote Japanese Nintendo products, including characters from games that were released at the time.
There was Mario too if you looked closely
Seems like a pretty decent amount of the information in this video was included in your previous videos. About Game Boys.
This is like almost word by word from the previous video lol
Interview: what inspired you to make the Game & Watch and Game Boy.
Nintendo: A man typing 8008 on his calculator
Small correction to the episode: the Game Boy Color only launched in purple and transparent purple. The other colors didn't come along until several months later
Super awesome video. Really helped perk my spirits after work. Thanks for the cool content and keep being awesome.
4:37 These advertisements... its like if my childhood was in one commercial... my god this is beautiful.
I WANNA BE SEDATED WITH A GAME BOY! I WANNA BE SEDATED WITH A GAME BOOOOOOYYYYY!
What a shitload of fuck

Pepsi for TV Game!
Pepsi for pizza!
I love that you credited Miyamoto as "Creative Fellow, Nintendo." That's the kind of subtle charm and personality I think works best for this channel, as opposed to DYKG Extra's more overt silliness.
DYKG, thank you for amazing and consistent content!!
I still remember playing Tetris on the game boy
Me too that and ninja turtles.
Shame Nintendo removed it from the 3DS Eshop, in favor of Tetris 99 on Switch.
I would've liked more info on the Game Boy Camera as I feel there's a lot of interesting things to talk about with that game...like what's up with those HORRIFYING pictures, and maybe talk a little about Space Fever II and its unique history with Nintendo. Maybe revisit this idea in the future?
There were so many great games for this thing, I love it. Now if only I could get my hands on Operation C that'd be great xD

The Gameboy SP was probably one of my favorite handhelds I loved how it folded lol
Otherwise known as:
Pokemon Gen 1 and 2
Oh what a treat - the fact you used Super Mario and the Six Golden Coins BGM, I enjoyed watching this more!
Major props for putting return of samus music
I'm Sure that my pants can hold a Brick Size Video Game console in my pocket.
Spiked Trap it can fit better then a switch can
You're right. I imagine the horrors if they would have re used the Gamepad's design for the switch but with portability.
Did you know? Nintendo's handhelds have always used low-resolution screens, with GB, GBC and GBA using 144p, and DS/DSi/3DS using 240p. PSP and Vita used 480p and 576p (Vita had OLED screen too).
Did you know?
Nintendo had exclusive handheld video game console rights to publish Tetris. Pretty much the primary reason that Nintendo stomped its competition between 1989 and the release of Pokemon in 1996 (JPN)/1998 (US&PAL), was the fact that you couldn't get a portable, on-the-go version of Tetris anywhere else.
Oh, and despite needing four AA batteries, it lasted 12-20 hours, far longer than the shorter lifespan the higher spec Game Gear and Neo Geo Pocket could muster.
GBA SP was front lit for most of its life. Only at the end of its run did they release a "new and brighter" model with a backlit screen, before discontinuing it
“Lateral thinking of withered technology” is genius
A bit contractory to say that the Color was a modest upgrade and say it was twice as powerful right after. While it didn't get as popular as the Advance it was most definitely a whole new system.
Shoutout to the American Le Mans Series, back when American sportscar endurance racing was good.
Back when racing was good. WRC, Formula 1, Touring Cars, endurance racing, you name it.
@@JamesBond00797 I'd like to argue that WRC is absurdly good rn, that and IndyCar.
@@RealRacingRoots That's fair. To summarize my point with a Jeremy Clarkson quote "This is brilliant, but I like this"
Gameboy Advance was technically not the same project as Atlantis, they entirely scrapped Atlantis and the GBA was its own separate new project. Was really hoping that would be brought up but it wasn't...
The Game & Watch was designed after he saw the guy "playing" with the calculator, but in the US we had handheld games in the 70's! In fact, in 1979 the very first handheld with changeable cartridges came out in America! It's the MicroVision, look it up if you don't know what it was.
The original GBA SP actually used a front-light, not a backlight. The re-released SP in 2005 had a true backlight (that couldn't be turned off).
Thought the stout dude in the Gameboy printer commercial was the same as the one they made fun of in the Sega handheld commercial for a second.
The GBC Game "Mission: Impossible" used the IR adapter and gave you the option to use the GBC as a TV Remote ! There were other functions as well ? But overall, it made kid-me feel like a real agent :D
Yup, that's a Game Boy alright.
The Link's Awakening music at the end made me unusually sentimental
no clips from Pokémon Red/Blue/(Green)/Yellow in a Nintendo Game Boy video by DYKG??
4:41 so are we gonna ignore the fact that Goku is dancing with Yoshi and Buster Bunny?
Did you know? "GameBoy" yields 23.7 million results on Google & "Game Boy" yields 10.6 million results.
This is a reference to the tragic Mandela Effect I and many others experience. Where many swear on their life that GAMEBOY was always one word up until a few years ago. It still looks like a product line that I've never seen in my life when spelled with a space after GAME and it makes myself and many others feel ill when looking at.
"They always wanted pokemon to talk, but the idea wasn't realised until Detective Pikachu"
Mewtwo: Am I a joke to you?
He communicated via telepathy. Talking would require spoken words which he did not. Meowth from the series did, however talk...
I saw the Gameboy from the Gulf in person too!
A SOWING MACHINE THAT CAME WITH A GAME CART WHERE YOU CHOSE A SOWING PATTERN AND THE MACHINE SOWS THE PATTERN
4:42 WTF? Chun li, TMNT, Goku, Mario, and Buster Bunny in the same ad!?
Now that I've seen bugs bunny and Goku dancing in the same commercial, I can die happy
Underwater fish. As opposed to those darn sky and land fish.
Will you guys do PSP video in the future?
That bombed gb is still in New York. I was there a couple months ago. I first saw it there in 2008 on a high school trip.
Game Boy is my favorite game system of all time.
Super Game Boy is my favorite accessory of all time, and Nintendo needs to get together with Hori to enable SGB emulation so I'm playing Donkey Kong '94 with its enhanced features on Virtual Console (or whatever Nintendo puts it on).
The gulf war gameboy is still at Nintendo New York. In fact, they need to be mindful of having the power cut going to that particular display cabinet because they aren't sure if it will survive a reset.
4:41 We just gonna ignore that Mario, Goku, and Bugs Bunny are singing together?
I like the original Metroid 2 music in the intro!
There was also the creepy screen photos in the gameboy camera.
Finally, a 60 Frames Per Seconds Version.
I didn't know these GameBoy Color has special features if played on GameBoy Advance.
This would have done the Gameboy justice being uploaded on it's birthday, happened awhile back
I need
A
Gameboy
Sedate
!
Those Game & Watches were actually fun. I had Donkey Kong Jr Game & Watch.
I never had a Game Boy, but I did have a Super Game Boy, so that's how I stayed in the handheld loop.
I need that "game boy sedate" I would play it for hours
What better way to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Game Boy than to talk fun facts about it!
The last song is so catchy! Anyone knows the game title?
Crazy seeing Buster Bunny, Goku, a ninja turtle, and Yoshi all in the same line.
Did I just see Goku, with Yoshi and Bugs Bunny in suits. Nintendo take notes.
I didn’t know how the Game Boy was so influential. That’s incredible!
Still have my Gameboy color to this day from when I was little
4:41 Goku Confirmed for Smash Bros
Nothing beats a jelly filled donut!
Angry Video Game Nerd: "I WANNA GET SEDATED WITH A GAME BOY...! I WANNA GET SEDATED WITH A GAME BOY...! I WANNA GET SEDATED WITH A GAME BOY...!" XD
The old pre-Game Boy games were pretty crazy, even when not Nintendo G&W
That advance ring in Oracle ages and seasons was useless tho, all it said was "Life Advance"
like half of the rings were game trophies before games even had trophies.
@@MrSHADOWfox99 I liked the ones that turn you into a Subrosian, or the one that turned you into retro Link.
4:42 WHOA WHOA WHOA Hold up there! You can't just show me this clip and not explain the context! This is an ad with Mario, Yoshi, Goku, Krillin, the protag from Dragon Quest, and fucking BUSTER BUNNY!? What!?
That's funny. Why is this video not called Gameboy Part 2? There's already a video on this channel called Gameboy
The guy at 7:59 looks A LOT like Groose from Skyward Sword.
Buster bunny and yoshi, a match made in heaven.
I guess this was just a remake of the original GameBoy video, because there’s very little new facts and trivia in this video.
Guys - if you need ideas (Considering this is nearly identical to the other Gameboy video) You haven't covered Parappa the Rapper yet!
What is the song played in the first few minutes? I need it in my life.
First space game boy of all time only sold for 1250 - that is a fucking steal. What a bargain.
Video starts, Donkey Kong 94 music plays
Here, enjoy this like
I always remember Gunpei Yokoi, because not only do I love the Game Boy, but we have the same birthday! September 10th :->
Kirsten Großmann He died 19 years ago in a terrible car crash in Japan! ☹️
@@afriend9428 I know. :-c I was debating whether or not to type "has" or "had," but chose the former. Even sadder was how he died trying to help. At least it says a lot about his character.
Kirsten Großmann My Birthday is September 2nd girl!! So Wii are all Virgo’s here!!! 🙂
Is the SR-388 theme at the beginning missing most of the instruments or is it just me?
Do I have deja-vu or this is better DYKG gameboy episode remaster? Im confused xD
Yeah theyre remaking some older videos. Sometimes word for word with additional facts
@@chimaeraarts nice my dud :D
4:37 I never knew there's been a Super Mario x Dragon Ball crossover before until this video
Goku, Buster Bunny, Yoshi, dancing and singing together... I've seen all now.
That Metroid 2 music got me fucked up with nostalgia.
If it weren't for the success of the Game & Watch series, I'm quite certain Tiger Electronics wouldn't have produced various licenced LCD games.
I had the Super Game Boy. It was awesome
Did this video just skip over goku and yoshi singing in a choir?
4:02 that looks like Ethan Suplee
Love the Oracle games!
I wonder if that guy with calculator back in the 1980s knows what he started. Thank you calculator guy!
WOW!! Free and extra levels when you play Color games on a Advance unit people!! 😃 Totally worth buying these Game Boy games and the Super GAMEBOY is definitely worth getting guys!!!!! 😎
I had the camera and printer and sold pictures on 2nd grade .. coolest kid on the school 🤪
